Lizzie McGuire [Soundtrack]
Editorial Reviews
Amazon.com
The 'tweens have spoken and Lizzie McGuire is their choice--or at least she's among the choices for a school-age, almost-everyday-girl heroine. This 12-song soundtrack is rife with artists those same 'tween listeners have found most compelling. Smash Mouth lead the charge after Hilary Duff's paean to nearly adolescent emotion, "I Can't Wait," with their poppy, horn-laden charge through "Why Can't We Be Friends." This effervescent morsel stands with the Wiseguys' "Start the Commotion" as the most mature stuff Lizzie ponies up. The beats are big and the refrains impossible to resist. Then there's the more patently kid-leaning material: Play and their charming love ditty "Us Against the World," Mandy Moore's "Walk Me Home," and Jessica Simpson's faux street-smart "Irresistible." If these pop tunes turn you away, consider the timeless "ABC" from Jackson 5, with its snappy soul and young Michael Jackson's irrepressible bravado marking it as a true classic. --Andrew Bartlett

Are Britney and Christina over-the-hill? It's a question the effervescent talents of 15-year-old Lizzie McGuire star/teeny-pop Hilary Duff fairly begs. While the plot of this big-screen adaptation of Duff's popular Disney TV series (Lizzie and pals take a class trip to Italy; she's mistaken for a Neopolitan pop star; comic complications ensue) hearkens back to the days of Frankie and Annette--or was it Mickey and Judy?--its soundtrack is a downright sunny tribute to the power of contemporary teen pop. Anchored by Duff's performances of the bright, ear-candy single, "Why Not," and her balladeer turn as the film's faux Italian pop princess, "What Dreams Are Made Of" (each in two versions), it's a score whose bubbly energy resonates through its covers--Atomic Kittens' take on the reggae/Blondie chestnut "The Tide Is High"; Vitamin C's peppy version of the kitsch classic "Volare"; Jump 5's faithful reading of EW&F's "Shining Star"--and originals like Cooler Kids' infectious "All Around the World" and Beu Sister's "You Make Me Feel Like a Star" alike. --Jerry McCulley

The Lizzie McGuire Movie.......2007-01-16
Perfect gift for a tiny-bopper. I normally dread the idea of finding room for all the gifts after the holidays but the gift of music and movies was the way to go this year. My little girl is almost 8 and Disney is not risky with its topics.

Pop Fans Of The World Rejoice!.......2006-05-26
Needless to say, if you own Hilary Duff, Lindsay Lohan, the Cinderella Story soundtrack, and both Princess Diaries soundtracks, then you either own this one or have never seen or heard of the Lizzie McGuire movie at all! It is, of course, 100% girl-power friendy Bazooka-filled chick tunes with no signs of edginess whatsoever. Preteen girls will absolutely love it, as for any pure-pop addicted fans who gobble every soundtrack or CD with Hilary's Fluff featured. I own this CD, and I think it's generally OK. A few songs stand out much more than the others, but most of the tunes are seriously fun to listen and groove to!
1. Hilary Duff, Why Not-I seriously felt the need to memorize the lyrics to this when I first heard it, but now that I have 4 different Why Nots on my playlist from 4 different Hilary Duff or Hilary Duff featured CD's, it's just OK now. 3/5
2. Atomic Kitten, The Tide Is High (Get The Feeling)-Probably in a tie with Volare for the best song on this soundtrack! A Blondie orginal, this one is cool, empowering, and makes you want to belt your heart out just like Lizzie did in the film! 5/5
3. Cooler Kids, All Around The World-An OK song. It's fun and groovy, and the band singing it isn't all that bad either. 3/5
4. Paolo & Isabella, What Dreams Are Made Of-Too poppy, blech. This one is what launched Hilary into her too-unfortunate singing career and made people actually BELIEVE she can sing. Curse the bimbos who suggested Hilary could be a pop star. 2/5
5. Jump 5, Shining Star-Kind of similar to number 3. This soundtrack features a ton of boy-girl ensembles that almost, but not quite, made it big in the pop world. 3/5
6. Volare, Vitamin C-Oh my gosh! This one rocks! It's probably one of, if not, the best song on here! It'll make you dance to the beat! 5/5
7. LMNT, Open Your Eyes (To Love)- An okay ballad. It fits the soundtrack's romantic-tinged pop melodies. 2/5
8. The Beu Sisters, You Make Me Feel Like A Star (Lizzie Mix)- A cool, once again girl power, one of those "I-wanna-be-seriously-cool" songs that will make preteen girls gasp and put their hands together and say, "I hope I can be a star! I hope I can be a star!" 4/5
9. Taylor Dayne, Supermodel-This epitomizes the girlpower theme that reigns supreme on the soundtrack and will make every girl cheer "Rock on!" Also, it gives new meaning to the phrase "You better work!" 4/5
10. Lizzie McGuire, What Dreams Are Made Of-The pop version of song number 4, haters of no-talent pop music will despise this one even worse. It's basically just a bunch of souped-up garbage that allowed Hilary Duff to make her saddening transition into the music world. And you know what? She was a success! Goes to show you how far we've fallen. 2/5
11. Dean Martin, On An Evening In Roma-An opera style Italian song that you can picture playing while driving through the streets of Italy. It fits the movie, because it was based in Rome, and suits the soundtrack's romantic theme. 2/5
12. Haylie Duff, Girl In The Band-Just when I couldn't stomach the thought of Hilary conquering the music world, her sister gets an idea and decides to cash in with a bunch of watered down, blah-blah pop songs. Whenever you see a soundtrack to a Hilary movie, she and her sister have their names and faces plastered all over the front, back, and insides of the CD and at least have a combined six or seven songs. Hilary's bad enough with her mousey-toned voice, but Haylie looks and sings like a sly weasel. Uggh, I'm dreading the soundtrack to August's Material Girls, a movie in which they BOTH costar. Anyway, back to THIS song, it so badly wants to be the cool headbanger that all the girls skip to first when they come home and crank their music, but fails oh-so-miserably in a concoction of warbles, whines, and wanna-be rock. Skip it pronto. 2/5
13. Score, Orchestral Suite From The Lizzie McGuire Movie-This is okay if you're a classical music fan. It's basically the light Italian music played frequently in the movie. 2/5
14. Hilary Duff, Why Not(McMix)-Although I gave the original Why Not a solid but not great 3 stars only because I heard it a gazillion times, I like the McMix because I haven't heard it nearly as many times as the original, and they added it on the soundtrack just so the soundtrack would have a fairly decent amount of songs on it in order to sell. All that said, it's still the perfect way to end this CD. 4/5
Very Satisfying.......2006-04-10
I would surely get this soundtrack if I were you. It's fresh and has a nice set of songs.
1. Why Not: 8/10; Shows Hilary's better days. Nice beat to it.
2. The Tide Is High (Get The Feeling): 8/10; You'll get caught humming it to yourself.
3. All Around The World: 5/10.. Very obnoxious and annoying.
4. What Dreams Are Made Of (Ballad Version): 7/10; Pretty, but gets kind of dull after the third repeat.
5. Shining Star: 8/10; Nice song, and a rocking beat!
6. Volare: 8/10; Very cute song.
7. Open Your Eyes (To Love): 7/10; has a nice slow rhythmn, but didn't really catch my interest.
8. You Make Me Feel Like A Star (Lizzie Mix): 8/10; a quick song; one of my favorites on here.
9. Supermodel: 6/10; a bit annoying to listen to.
10. What Dreams Are Made Of: 8/10; Again, shows Duff's better days. Nice song.
11. On An Evening In Roma: 7/10; It sounds nice. Very..'Romesy".
12. Girl In The Band: -1/10; I would kick this off if I could.
13. Orchestral Suite From The Lizzie McGuire Movie (Score): 9/10; Very, very smooth and breezy. It's so exciting to listen to.
14. Why Not (McMix): 6/10; Eh..-shrug-

If you never thought you'd want to be 11 again, Lizzie McGuire: Total Party might change your mind. This is the best girl-targeted CD to come around in a while--as spunky and dippy as Lizzie herself. Your 8-to-12-year-old won't want to miss it, not only for the songs but for the fun inter-track patter. Lizzie gets her party started with the Radio Disney edit of Pink's hit, and celebrates girlhood with "Ladies Night" (covered by Atomic Kitten and featuring Kool & the Gang), No Secrets' edgy "That's What Girls Do," and Triple Image's inventive "Hey Now (Girls Just Wanna Have Fun)." What makes this party total is not pizza--that's the only thing that's missing--but three karaoke tracks tacked to the end. Expect repeated choruses of "I Can't Wait" to ring out, and to find your divas-in-training taking turns at the make-believe mike into the wee hours. --Tammy La Gorce

Not As Bad As It Seems..........2006-05-15
Woah.
I read some of the reviews, and I agree with some of them, but definatley disagree with most of them.
This CD is really not half bad! It really simply depends on what you are looking for in a CD.
This disc is something super fun and cool for very young girls in the age group 2-9. But if you are a little older, this might be a good CD for you aswell. The song choice on this CD is very sort of "Girl Power" style. So I would reccomend to make your purchasing decision on that fact.
Like I mentioned, this is a fun CD for young girls & great for sleepovers and parties. It's also an okay choice as a present for a Lizzie McGuire lover.
1 thing missing.......2005-06-07
this cd is good but it should have a hilary duff song like i cant wait the song
FANTASTIC!!!!!!.......2005-06-01
This was a great CD. It's one of the best collections of girl power music I have.
surprisingly bad.......2004-09-01
I'll admit right away that I bought this CD because Jesse McCartney is on it... but it is a purchase I regret. Before each song a girl says a line of dialogue and I found it completely unnecessary and annoying. As for the songs...
Perfect Day by Hoku- it's a good song the first few times, but it can get annoying. Cute lyrics, but the vocals are more on the pop/rock side. The problem- this song is two years old and already overplayed by Legally Blonde
Crush'N by Jesse McCartney- the reason I bought the CD, this song was a major disappointment for me. I know that Jesse has an amazing voice. He has a lot of talent, but this song didn;t work. The music is slow and heavy, while the singing is fast and trying to be energetic. I've seen Jesse perform this song live twice. It really is a great song, but Walt Disney Records added their own touch and basically slaughtered it.
The rest of the CD is alright... most songs from 1998-2001. I think if they had chosen a few newer songs, it would have been a GREAT improvement. But Dancing Queen, C'est La Vie, Smile... they were cool in the late 90's...but people have grown tired of them. This CD really could have been a lot better...

Few Hits. More misses........2005-10-22
The cd is what it is: A small collection of tween pop brought together in celebration of a hit Disney Channel show. That being the case you know not every song will be great, especially since most soundtracks are total filler anyway. I bought this cd becuase I love the show and I wanted to explore the world of Disney pop.
Here is what I think of each song:
1. I Can't Wait - The song is very short, very cute, very mediocre. It's an ok song, especially compared to some other songs here, but for Hilary standards it is probably her weakest sond ever. Of Course this is before she went on to record hits and great albums. (7.5/10)
2. Why Can't We Be Friends - Why does Smash Mouth always make there presence in Disney cd's?? I hate this song. Pure annoyance- it's a mess of a song. (3/10)
3. All I Can Do - Ahhh Jump 5....Can a group be any chessier?? Probably not, but this song is a good one, its definitely as fun as christian pop can get! (9/10)
4. Us Against The World - The song that made it's presence in the episode that Miranda decided she wanted to starve herself.....AWKWARD! but ayway this song is tween pop perfection, teaching kids to depend on their freinds and not there crushes. Ahhh the genius of Play. ahhaa (10/10)
5. Irresistable - This song would be a perfect 10 if it was in it's original version, but on this cd its edited and cleaned up to protect kids ears from..uhhh..lust? haha The original is one of Jessicas best, which isnt saying much - (8/10)
6. ABC - It's a classic, though it is out of place, its a classic and it would be stupid to say anything bad against it. (10/10)
7. Everybody Wants Ya - Ugh!! I never cared for this song, much less S Club 7. eh! (5/10)
8. Start The Commotion - What the hell is this?? Tota'ly random! (5/10)
9. Walk me home - I love Mandy Moore!! And Especially this song! Is it censored, i dont remember! (10/10)
10. What They gonna Think - this is when the cd really goes down hill! (4/10)
11. Have a nice Life baby - Once again, random horribleness (4/10)
12. Theme to Lizzie Mcguire - This song is good, especially for a theme song, but who the hell sings it?!?!?! And its super super short!(8/10)
Overall its..OK!! And you should buy it just for the few good songs, just remember this IS a soundtrack which means it isnt great ( only The BodyGuard soundtrack and Purple Rain are good soundtracks, and of course musicals) and its a soundtrack to a TV show...so yeah..not a classic, but cute.
Not for every1..........2005-08-21
My 1st CD from a long time ago... well actually my sister got it... and I can't say much ppl will like it, only kids under 10 or something... no offense to you fans...
1 was okay, actually no, pretty good now that I look back, so the type for the show...
2 was okay, though I don't like it much...
3 was... I forgot how it sound...
4 was... same as 3.
5 was good, though Jessica Simpson's 'Sweetest Sin' rocks more...
6 was okay, though kinda bad...
7 was good, so catchy and it got stuck in my mind immediately...
8 was bad, my sister and I always skip past it...
9 was good, I love the way Mandy Moore sings, it's great, even though her 'I Wanna Be With You' was better...
10 was... hmm, WTF, never heard of it...
11 was bad, it always gets stuck in my mind, which is SO ANNOYING!
12 was good, I always liked listening to it, though it is a little TOO short...
Yea, that pretty much says what I think about this product... but I don't listen to it anymore, only little kids do, every1 either LOVES Hilary Duff instead now, or simply hates her...
