On the Line [Soundtrack]
Editorial Reviews
Amazon.com
On the Line, a romantic comedy starring 'N Sync's Lance Bass and Joey Fatone, is accompanied by this disc, which both consolidates the standing of some of the industry's biggest teen-poppers and singles out new Jive Records signings. New 'N Sync and Fatone tracks, along with the title cut (a summit meeting of Bass, Fatone, Mandy Moore, and others), offer little new, while Britney Spears's "Let Me Be" points to her growing vocal maturity. Much more audacious is "My Hit Song," a Melissa Lefton tune that displays a Josie and the Pussycats-style irony about the current star-making machinery. Along with Vitamin C's Abba-esque "Do You C What I C?" and the return of Robyn ("What It Takes") on "Say You'll Walk the Distance," it's a highlight. Adolescent country artist Meredith Edwards adds to the project's synergy with a second version of Fatone's showcase, "Ready to Fall," while Al Green's disco-fied remake of his "Let's Stay Together" is a puzzler, distinguished only by his joyous performance. --Rickey Wright

Based on Nicholas Sparks' novel, director Nick Cassavetes film spins the bittersweet tale of a 60-year romance, as seen from the polar perspectives of its promising youth and the travails of an old age cursed by Alzheimer's. Its soundtrack effectively echoes those polar dramatic concerns, with composer Aaron Zigler's gentle orchestral score largely giving voice to the character's melancholy present, while a rich, well-chosen slate of vintage material by Billie Holiday, Duke Ellington, Benny Goodman and Glenn Miller imparts a restless energy to their youth. There's a certain schmaltz to much of Zigman's work here, yet cues like "House Blues/The Porch Dance.." and "Noah's Journey" argue he's achieved something more elusive than mere melodramatic wallpaper with the deceivingly difficult task at hand; it can't be easy to have your work seasoned with the likes of Ellington's sassy "Alabamy Home" and Goodman's still-vibrant "One O'Clock Jump." Sharply contrasting versions of "I'll Be Seeing You" by Holiday and Jimmy Durante bookend the soundtrack, perfectly evoking the story's alternating shades of hope and fading nostalgia and framing Zigman's understated work in the bargain. --Jerry McCulley
Album Description
Based on the best selling novel by Nicholas Sparks ("A Walk To Remember", "Message In A Bottle"), "The Notebook" is the story of Noah and Allie, teenage lovers torn apart by WWII and Allie's parents' demands to marry a respectable lawyer. After 14 years apart, they meet again and rekindle their true love. Starring Ryan Gosling, Rachel McAdams, James Garner, and Gena Rowlands. The soundtrack is a propelling force. In addition to classic WWII era pieces, Aaron Zigman's score suites enhance the record with beautifully dramatic themes. Score performed by the Hollywood Studio Symphony.

Touching.......2007-07-04
There isn't much I can say about this beautiful movie, except that it was so touching!
It say's go for the "true love", settle for nothing else no matter what may be in store, because love that is "true" and as beautiful as their's was, is a rare thing!
I absolutely loved the ending.
I also loved that a movie CAN be truly wonderful, beautiful and touching WITHOUT grafic "sex scenes!" Also sadly a rare thing in movies today.
Ever seen "Hanover Street?" Equally beautiful. No SEX scenes either!

Pays music a complement. I love the classical pieces!.......2007-05-27
I do not have the soundtrack to The Notebook, but I do have the movie itself. Having said that, every song is wonderful. Some music carries with it, a wealth of emotion and a sense of timelessness. I love all of the classical pieces , perhaps the best, in this particular movie. Classical has never been my speed when it comes down to music, but something about this movie's classical masterpieces struck a chord in me...made me smile and maybe even sniffle a bit. If you are a fan of the movie, I'm sure you would love its soundtrack too. Music like this is ideal for a romantic evening or just for pleasure listening. You don't know if you'll like something until you give it a chance! So give this a chance!!
the Notebook soundtrack (Audio CD).......2007-05-13
This is a beautiful collection of music from the movie, The Notebook. Most is instrumental, very relaxing, as well as lively at times. Two renditions of "I'll Be Seeing You" are included.
Very Nice.......2007-03-30
I really enjoyed listening to the soundtrack, but I'm also a big fan of background music and this cd was great for both. Listening to the cd took me back to the movie and reminded me how much I enjoyed it, but I also put the cd on during a nice meal with friends and it worked out very well, they all enjoyed the music.
A sweeping, emotional standout!.......2007-01-11
The music from The Notebook brings you right back to the film, capturing your heart and soul. It's music will roll live waves through your soul and bring you from nostalgia to your own feelings of love and desire. The selections, arrangements and orchestrations are to be admired, and Mr. Zigman is to be praised. This soundtrack truly completes the legacy of "The Notebook".

A companion to the fabulous PBS series, the 21-song, 77-minute The Best of "Broadway: The American Musical" provides about as good a single-disc compilation as anyone could hope for. (There's also a five-CD version.) What sets it apart from so many other "best of Broadway" collections is its breadth--because it had access to a variety of record-label vaults it doesn't have to try to disguise gaps by using revivals or solo recordings. Here you get all the authentic stuff, including: Paul Robeson singing "Ol' Man River" from the first modern American musical, Show Boat; Ethel Merman singing "You're the Top"; the title song from Oklahoma!; Julie Andrews singing "I Could Have Danced All Night" from My Fair Lady; West Side Story's "America"; Betty Buckley singing "Memory" from Cats; Hairspray's "Good Morning Baltimore"; and "Defying Gravity" from Wicked, the newest show discussed in the PBS series. And it's hard to argue with the songwriters represented: Irving Berlin, Jerome Kern, Cole Porter, Rodgers and Hammerstein, Frank Loesser, Lerner and Loewe, Leonard Bernstein, Bock and Harnick, Kander and Ebb, Stephen Sondheim, and Andrew Lloyd Webber, among others. Obviously, no single-disc compilation could ever please everyone (did we really need two ALW songs?), but as a sampler intended for people who watched the series and want to hear more of the Great White Way, The Best of "Broadway: The American Musical" can't be topped. --David Horiuchi
Customer Reviews:
Some interesting choices, indeed.......2006-03-02
This is a pretty good compilation, but I have to wonder at some of the choices that went into it.
"Good Morning Baltimore" is almost the least impressive song from Hairspray. "You Can't Stop the Beat" was a much more anthemic song from that show.
I agree that it's too bad Les Mis didn't make it in. I would have traded that for anything Sondheim, although that's a personal preference :) .
Still, the opportunity to hear the original performers and orchestras perform these works, all in one place, is a great deal.
Great CD.......2005-11-01
This one plays in the car, on the ipod and in the house. When the kids were little they would ask if we could take them to "The Street". That is what they called Broadway (little did they know at that time how famous that street is). They still love it and we can not get enough of it. This CD covers the best and makes you want to go and see a live performance. You can not beat that.
Great selections, but bad transfers.......2005-07-27
This is a great taste of broadway. If you enjoyed the B'Way series at all, then you will probably enjoy this CD. My problem with it is that some of the songs sound like they were not remastered at all- the transfer to CD is terrible. The orchestrations in "You're the top" by Ethel Merman are muffled, and the song sounds like it was taken straight from an old record and slapped onto the CD without fixing it up. It doesn't sound very clear, which is a bit upsetting and annoying. Maybe this is just because that particular recording is older than some of the songs chosen to be on this CD. The more modern songs sound crisp and new and beautiful. "Swanee" is also very low quality as if it were just taken off of a record and put on the CD without any restoration. I just feel that these songs deserved better treatment and that we as customers deserve better treatment. Decca could have restored these songs and made them sound really good, but they decided just to slap them on the CD without touching them up.
I am surprised that nothing was chosen to be on this recording from Les Miserables since it had been on Broadway for 16 years and its tour is running until 2006. There were selections from Cats, Phantom of the Opera and Wicked, so I am not sure why nothing was chosen from Les Miserables.
Other than these few nit pickings, I think that this is a great introduction to musicals. It gives a little taste across the spectrum. Try getting the cast recordings of the songs that you really like on this collection. It's worth buying if you're a huge broadway fan.
Yes this is Some of the Best of Broadway!.......2005-04-08
This CD from Decca Broadway is a wonderful selection of some of
the "Greatest Hits" of the Broadway stage. Decca and Sony have
done an excellent job of remastering the various recordings, some
of which still show some of their age, but come across quite
well. Are there a lot of songs that I would have put on this
disc? Yes, but the ones on here are good choices. I may have to
get a copy of the Five disc set and the DVD's just to see if any
more of my favorites made it on the list. What this disc seems to
try to do is show the evolution of the Broadway song from it's
early days to the present. It succeeds quite well I think.
If you enjoy Broadway theater this CD is a must!
The music of Broadway comes alive.......2004-10-07
I loved listening to this CD. The music from Broadway's best loved musicals are on this album. I recogized most of these songs, even though I've only seen a few of them on the local stage. I have so many favorites on this CD. It is hard to pick one. I'm a big fan of Barbara Streisand. I loved her performance of People from Funny Girl. Memory is the hit song from the musical Cats. Betty Buckley's performance of this song is so emotional and sincere.
I loved the song Annie. It is a wonderfully optimistic song performed by the original Annie Andrea McArdle. Another highlight for me is the song One performed by the cast of a Chorus Line. Luck Be A Lady Tonight is another of my favorite broadway songs on this CD from Guys and Dolls. The music of the night is a beautiful song by Michael Crawford from Phantom of the Opera. Richard Kiley has such a strong and powerful voice. He sounds so inspirational singing The Impossible Dream from Man from La Mancha. My dream is to see some musicals on Broadway someday and listen to these songs performed live.
I'm surprised that there isn't any music from Miss Saigon or Jesus Christ Superstar included here. I think they are classic musicals with great songs Maybe they will appear on a future compilation from PBS.

Excellence!.......2007-04-22
These recordings range back to 1994, with a number of tracks being from Silva Screen's "Music from the Films of Clint Eatwood" compilation, with Derek Wadsworth conducting the City of Prague Philharmonic.
Those tracks are: "The Good, The Bad and The Ugly", "A Fistful of DOllars", "For a Few Dollars More", and "Two Mules for Sister Sara". "In The Line Of Fire' also appeared on that CD, performed electronically by Mark Ayres.
The next bunch of tracks is from Silva Screen's 1996 compilation, "Cinema Paradise: The Classic Film Music of Ennio Morricone", which included the majority of tracks here such as the extensive The Mission Suite, The Untouchables, Casulaties of War, Once Upon a Time In America, 1900, Chi Mai, Marco Polo, Once Upon a Time In The West (two tracks), Cinema Paradise, and The Good the Bad and the Ugly - Ecstacy of Gold, mostly being conducted by Paul Bateman, with Nic Raine doing some of the conducting duties as well.
Hamlet is from Silva's 1997 "Cinema's Classic Romances" compilation, while "The Thing" is from Silva's 2001 "Essential John Carpenter".
A Fistful of Dynamite - Duck You Sucker is from 2002's Way Out West: Essential Western Film Music Collection Volume Two.
The remaing tracks were newly recorded in 2004 for this release:
Days of Heaven, Exorcist II, Guns for San Sebastian, Moses the Lawgiver, My Name is Nobody, The Five Man Army, The Red Tent, The Men From Shiloh and The Sicilian Clan.
Highly recommended.
"his domain of film scoring is legendary ~ Ennio Morricone".......2004-10-07
Silva America once again has outdone themselves with "Once Upon A Time:The Essential Ennio Morricone Film Music Collection", a double disc collection worth their weight in GOLD! ~ Morricone creates visual moods for each film he scores...action, adventure, mystery, romance, sentimental and suspense...the list could go on.
Ennio Morricone was born in Rome on October 11, 1928...attended the Santa Cecilia Conservatory...worked in various jazz bands, later a staff arranger and composer...an orchestrator in the '50s...scored films in the early '60s, then the WESTERNS and his name became a household word in the film industry ~ a new kind of western was on the horizon and Morricone was commissioned to score "A FISTFUL OF DOLLARS" [1964] for Sergio Leone featuring Clint Eastwood, spaghetti westerns were born ~ next "FOR A FEW DOLLARS MORE" [1965] ~ and a bigger budget film "THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE UGLY" [1966], again featuring Clint Eastwood, Lee Van Cleef and a third Eli Wallach whose performance was magical to watch on the big screen ~ violence and revenge gives Morricone an opportunity to feature electric guitars, flutes and jew's harp blending with a non lyrical chorus mixed with brass, strings, percussion with full orchestration that simply took your breath away...example is "ONCE UPON A TIME IN THE WEST" [1968], featuring Henry Fonda, Claudia Cardinale, Jason Robards and our hero Charles Bronson the mysterious harmonica player, director Sergio Leone's tribute to the American Western, pulled out all the stops ~ the Western was just a small part of Maestro Morricone's career, in the next paragraph take a gander of just what our icon of film music accomplished.
Our composer didn't stop there as "ONCE UPON A TIME IN AMERICA" [1984], featuring Robert De Niro, James Woods and Elizabeth McGovern, another Sergio Leone film..."THE MISSION" [1986], featuring Robert De Niro, Jeremy Irons and Aldan Quinn, is probably one of Morricone's crowning scores receiving an Academy Award nomination, very haunting and classical genre in substance..."THE UNTOUCHABLES" [1987], featuring Kevin Costner, Sean Connery and Robert De Niro during the Al Capone '30s crime organization, Morricone conjures a powerful and dynamic arrangement of his unmistakable theme..."CINEMA PARADISO" [1988], featuring Phillippe Noiret, Antonella Attili and Pupella Maggio from director Giuseppe Tomatore as he recalls his early childhood, the score immediately captures your heart, so tender and compelling as Morricone can only deliver.
City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra featuring conductors Kenneth Alwyn, Paul Bateman, James Fitzpatrick, Nic Raine, Derek Wadsworth ~ Crouch End Festival Chorus featuring Choir Master David Temple ~ vocals performed by Charlotte Kinder, Marie Kopecka and Jill Washington ~ guitar, percussion and keyboards performed by Gareth Williams ~ all in all did a magnicent job in bringing the music of a composer who wrote for over 250 films, receiving recognition from the industry and fans which was long over-due ~ his work is in constant demand, scoring as many as over a half dozen films as year.
This collection contains an overlay of each cue in Morricone's distinctive style of legendary scoring ~ the man who made this possible, a tremendous asset to every project he undertakes is James Fitzpatrick [producer of the album] ~ symphonic suites with full orchestra fullfilling the "film-score-buffs" cravings for more of the same, just the way we like 'em!

Once in a while, the Hollywood marketing machine is made redundant by the viral campaign that develops, seemingly on its own, around a movie. In 2006, such a web phenom surrounded Snakes on a Plane months before its summer release. The movie was cool before it even opened, and that status is reflected on the kind of musicians on its soundtrack. For starters, it's co-released by Decaydance, the label run by Fall Out Boy's bassist Pete Wentz; this isn't a coincidence, as most of the bands involved belong to the same musical universe, including several with a connection to former FOB label Fueled by Ramen (The Academy Is
, Panic! At the Disco, Gym Class Heroes, the Hush Sound). The vibe is happy-go-lucky and exuberant, a feeling bolstered by the fact that while most of the songs aren't original, they've been remixed for extra-oomph by the likes of Tommie Sunshine and Teddybears. Among the few originals are the title track by Cobra Starship (an ad hoc "supergroup" made up of members of The Academy Is
, Gym Class Heroes, and The Sounds) and "Ophidiophobia" by Cee Lo Green, on loan from Gnarls Barkley. Finally, the cool factor is compounded by snippets of movie dialogue between tracks, Tarantino-like. --Elisabeth Vincentelli

<3 Snakes.......2007-06-21
This album is one of the best albums i've ever listened to & that says a lot since i've got a crap load of soundtracks. Every track is sometype of club mix & sounds excelent, sometimes even better then the original song itself. This cd is a must have!
Snakes On A Plane is going to be coming with something else????.......2007-02-11
I love this soundtrack, the unclean version though. It has a bunch of catchy tunes. I wonder if the sound quality of the first track is suppose to be with less bass and solid sound? The song sounds undermixed all Teh Teh and not boom boom. Pick this cd up you can't go wrong it is a companion album to go with the movie if you love the film itself?
There is only a few songs on the cd that's in the movie though, like the first song. The song by Gym Class Heroes and Cee Lo Green and the last 3 songs. The reason that I said that Snakes On A Plane is going to be coming with something else is that I just found out from an email from Varese Sarabande concerning the image mistake on their Nanny McPhee front and back cover art is that...well find out below for yourself the copy and paste info from my email under the February 27th relase date:

Cobra Starship is awesome.......2007-02-07
Cobra Starship's track is def the best song on this album, but the remixes are good too, especially Jack's Mannequin.
O YEAH!.......2006-11-21
Great remixes! This would be great for a party! i love the music especially The Only Differnce Between Martrydom And Suicide Is Press Coverage is da best! Some songs r crappy but some r just so good. I say buy it but from itunes because it is cheeper.
Fun Movie Soundtrack for a Fun Movie.......2006-11-06
For a movie like Snakes on a Plane, you'd expect the soundtrack to be just as goofy. The lead track, "Snakes on a Plane (Come On, Bring It)," is a fun start to an enjoyable album.
Many of the tracks are remixes that weren't really in the movie, but are neat anyway.
Definitely recommended to anyone who likes pop-remixes, campy movies and fun music.

Music to My Ears!.......2006-09-22
This CD is, literally, music to my ears. The "On the Line" soundtrack is just so awesome! It's every bit as cool as the original movie. The songs are very catchy, and I often find myself singing along as I listen to them. My most favorite songs are "On the Line", "That Girl (Will Never Be Mine)", "Ready to Fall" (the Joey Fatone version), "Falling", "Do You C What I C", and "Don't Look Down."
What makes this soundtrack even better is that these songs are appropriate for all ages. No swearing, no talk of drugs or sexuality or death, or any of that Eminem rubbish. Nope--nothing but talk of love and how beautiful it can be.
I highly recommend this CD to anyone who is a fan of music.
A definite Suprise! .......2005-09-08
When I saw the movie, it didn't seem to impress me. (That's not saying much looking at who starred in it. Didn't she get her head sliced off in "Wrong Turn?") But what did impress me were the songs in the movie! They are pop perfection!
1. ON THE LINE/ On The Line All Stars - Great pop song! Finally Joey and Lance get a chance to let their vocals shine with collaborations from Mandy Moore and Christian Burns from BBMak! (9/10)
2. THAT GIRL (WILL NEVER BE MINE)/ *NSync - One of their best pop songs! Should have been released as one of their singles, but I am glad it is on here! (9/10)
3. UNDER YOU/ Trickside - WHATEVER HAPPENED TO THESE GUYS! This song is so awesome! It has a rock pop vibe to it and it is so catchy! (10/10)
4. DON'T LOOK DOWN/ BBMak - A nice mellow track from BBMak. A little dull at times, but still nice. (7/10)
5. LET'S STAY TOGETHER/ Al Green - This sounds like some kind of 60's/70's song. I usually skip it. (5/10)
6. LET ME BE/ Britney Spears - I have to admit, this song is extremely catchy! It has like an eastern vibe to it. Very good! (9/10)
7. FALLING/ *Nsync - Compared to That Girl, this song is lukewarm. This is not one of their best ballads. (6/10)
8. DO YOU C WHAT I C?/ Vitamin C - Ugh. This song sounds so cheery it just makes me want to jump off a cliff! Cheap music, cheap lyrics! (3/10)
9. READY TO FALL/ Joey Fatone - This song is great! Joey definately needs to go solo. It has a mellow rock tune to it. I can listen to it all the time! (10/10)
10. TO BE ABLE TO LOVE/ Jessica Folker - MY PERSONAL FAVORITE! She is just awesome! Sweden at its finest. The beat is so great and her vocals just add the icing to the cake! DEFINATE REPEAT MATERIAL! (11/10)
11. MY HIT SONG/ Melissa Lefton - Nice song. Very interesting lyrics to go with the upbeat music. (9/10)
12. SAY YOU'LL WALK THE DISTANCE/ Robyn - YES I WILL! This song is fantastic! Why the U.S. ever turned the other way on this singer I will never know! She is phenomenal! Another great talent from Sweden! (11/10)
13. TAKE ME ON/ Richie Sambora - ANOTHER GREAT POP TRACK! I didn't know who Richie Sambora was until this song and I am glad I picked it up! He is a great act! (10/10)
14. CAN'T TRUST MYSELF/ Blaque - I used to be a fan of Blaque until I heard this song. Dull and uninspiring. (5/10)
15. READY TO FALL/ Meredith Edwards - Joey's version of this song is so much better. Skip this. (6/10)
A definate surprise and definate treat for the ears!
The coolest combinations ever.......2003-05-29
I'm a great fan of that cd, it's really the boom. I have the DVD and found out that it's not complete without the soundtrack. I LoVe IT!!!. Most especially "Ready to fall in Love", because it reflects my life personally. If you have the DvD without the Soundtrack CD, your collection is not complete. Go get it , it's worth the money and time. And moreover I'm a SYNC Nsync fan 4-Ever.
Teenybopper soundtrack.......2003-03-01
I got this cd as a present from my mom (back when N*Sync was "cool") a while ago, and at the time, it was pretty good. Joey Fatone has a great voice and is very good on "Ready To Fall", but the REAL highlight is Richie Sambora. I personally am still listening to this cd for that one song and it's the only reason I gave it three stars (three times better than any other song on this cd!!!). The rest (Britney, BBMak, N*Sync) is just the soundtrack to the perky life of the teenybopper ...Unless you're a die-hard rock fan like me (who worships Bruce Springsteen and Bon Jovi), skip it.
Doesn't Have the Best Songs From The Movie.......2003-01-24
The film's best songs were the ones that Joey sang in the bar at the beginning, a remake of Def Leppard's "Pour Some Suger On Me" and the hauntingly beautiful "Kevin Crapped Out All Alone."
Since this album does not have those songs I will probably not get it. Too bad, because I am a big Joey Fatone fan.

The film that took the 1989 Special Jury Prize at Cannes, Cinema Paradiso features a promising collaboration between il Maestro Ennio Morricone and director Giuseppe Tornatore. Essentially a bittersweet love letter to the enchantment of the cinema-going experience, "Paradiso" offers the melodic and romantic side of Morricone at his peak. The story line gratifyingly calls for Morricone to musically encapsulate a broad range of historic film music, from the orchestral grandeur of Golden Age Hollywood to the Neopolitan jazz of Rota and Fellini, which he does with typically brilliant panache. Telling fact: the main theme is so memorable it was recently co-opted for a car commercial! --Jerry McCulley
Customer Reviews:
music great but performance weak.......2000-07-01
I love the music of E.Morricone, and bought this disk since it had so many titles that I wanted. But although the songs are great, I found the performances - by the city of prague philharmonic - to be quite weak. There is very little emotion conveyed - and the emotion is what makes E.M.'s music so compelling. Even worse, the performance differs from what you remember in the movies - e.g. the good bad and ugly track had no chorus (no grunts); the mission soundtrack sounds like a symphonic rendition without the catholic power. Stick to the original soundtracks.
Excellent Versions of Classic Themes.......2000-06-28
This CD features new orchestral arrangements of Morricone's most famous themes. It's a very interesting album and even if one prefers to quirky original recordings of his western scores (like I do) it's still well worth a listen. (The only reason I'm giving this Four Stars is because some of the personality of the themes hasn't quite translated to some of the versions on this collection.)
The versions of "Two Mules for Sister Sara" and "For a Few Dollars More" are particularly well presented. However, if you're looking for some of Morricone's original recordings, I recommend you pick up "A Fistful of Morricone."
Il magnificio.......2000-05-25
I haven't heard this album, but I know all the tracks very well. I grew up with Ennio Morricone and as such I know this would be an essential for anyone who is not fully aware of the genius this man has brought to movie scores for four decades now. Check "Estasia del'oro" on this CD to find out what I mean!
This is not original music of Ennio Morricone.......1998-12-19
This cd represent a compilation of various tracks by Ennio Morricone and contains very popular themes. I give only 2 stars, because the music is poor compared to the original version composed by Ennio Morricone.
great sounding music from various films.......1998-08-22
This cd is a great compilation of various tracks by film composer Ennio Morricone. While the music is wonderful, only one of the tracks is from the specific film of Cinema Paradiso (despite the name of this CD). If you are mainly interested in that film, there's a complete soundtrack to it also available at amazon.
