Inspired by the Moon Zappa novelty hit of the early '80s, Valley Girl actually became a musical showcase for the dizzying array of styles that collided under the mantle of new wave. And though the movie didn't even have an initial soundtrack release, Rhino has more than made up for that shortcoming with two generous volumes. Deriving much of its inspiration from then-pioneering L.A. radio outlet KROQ's "Rock of the 80's" format, this second volume offers up a couple bona fide early MTV classics (Toni Basil's "Mickey," Culture Club's "Do You Really Want to Hurt Me"); nervy nouveau power pop (the Plimsouls' "Zero Hour"); upbeat U.K. R&B (the Jam's "A Town Called Malice"); rhythmic synth-pop ("In the Name of Love" by Thompson Twins); and, of course, a loopy dollop of the genre's unrequited love for novelty and sexual innuendo ("I Eat Cannibals" by Total Coelo, Sparks' "Eaten by the Monster of Love," and "Pocket Pool" by Killer Pussy). 5 out of 5 stars A Rare `80s Classic.......2007-06-24

Valley Girl: More Music from the Soundtrack is the 2nd volume of the Valley Girl Soundtrack, this CD contains all the other music from the movie that couldn't be fitted into the first volume, plus many other songs that weren't heard in the movie, but fit into the whole valley girl theme. Some of the songs this disc includes which were heard in the movie are: "Girls Like Me" (Surprised this wasn't in the first volume) and "Shelly's Boyfriend" by Bonnie Hayes and the Wild Combo, "Time to Win" by Gary Myrick and the Figures (One of my favorites), and Eaten by the Monster of Love by Sparks (Another Favorite). This CD also ranges from big hits like "Mickey" by Toni Basil and" Do You Really Want To Hurt Me?" by Culture Club to rare songs like "The Earthquake Song" by Little Girls, "Marina Men" by Valley Girls, and "Pocket Pool" by Killer Pussy. This 2nd volume is absolutely amazing and I find it better than the first, there is not one song that I don't like. The music is definitely fun, danceable, and very `80s, and a must have for all of you `80s/New Wave fans. Unfortunately this CD is out of print, and very difficult to find. I honestly do not own the original copy of this soundtrack, but I spent months looking for most songs until I was able to find them all with the exception of "Marina Men" which I have yet to find. This is a very rare gem, and I'm hoping, even praying that Rhino could be kind enough to re-issue it, so I can get my hands on a copy.

5 out of 5 stars Totally Cool!!!.......2003-10-07

This is an awesome 80's compilation cd and I would reccommend anyone who likes 80's new-wave music would truly enjoy this cd and I would recommend anyone to buy it they have some great songs on this cd it has : the monster of love, girls like me, he was really saying something, mickey and others it is cool I really like this album and I really do enjoy it I would recommend you to buy both volumes to this soundtrack you would really enjoy listening to them!!!!

4 out of 5 stars Remember when music was fun?.......2000-11-07

More killer tunes from the vastly underrated film "Valley Girl." This cool collection effectively adds songs which were noticeably absent from the original soundtrack. In fact, this CD is worth the price of admission just for Sparks'classic romp "Eaten by the Monster of Love" and Bonnie Hayes' bouncy "Girls Like Me". Other notable artists included on this disc are the Plimsouls, the Jam and Jane Wiedlin. I'd recommend "More Music from the Soundtrack of Valley Girl" to anyone who longs for a return to a time when music was energetic and fun. (Unlike most of the mean-spirited garbage that stinks up the airwaves today.) Totally Trippindicular!!

4 out of 5 stars More Great Music from a Great Movie.......1999-04-19

The first Valley Girl soundtrack album was great, but notably missing three of the movie's best songs ("Girls Like Me", "Shelly's Boyfriend", and "Eaten by the Monster of Love"). This album fills that gap by including those three songs and others, but most of these songs have nothing to do with the film. Despite that, they are similar to those from Valley Girl, giving the disc a great thematic feel. As far as I know, this is the only available CD with "Eaten by the Monster of Love", possibly Sparks' best tune. Definitely worth the purchase.

5 out of 5 stars Like, OMIGOD! This CD is totally tubular. Fer sure!.......1999-02-06

A great movie deserves an even greater soundtrack and this one really delivers! If you have the original Valley Girl soundtrack, this one includes all of the great songs that were left out (Girls Like Me, Eaten By the Monster of Love, and my personal favorite, Pocket Pool). If you enjoyed the movie and if you enjoy compilations of 80's music, I would definitely reccommend this CD.
