Varsity Blues: Music From And Inspired By The Motion Picture [Soundtrack]
Editorial Reviews
Amazon.com
Loudmouth, the Foo Fighters, Third Eye Blind, and even vintage Van Halen show up on the Varsity Blues soundtrack, a disc that pretty accurately captures the sounds you'd hear coming out of a Middle American high school parking lot circa 1998-1999. This isn't necessarily a bad thing. Green Day's "Nice Guys Finish Last" and Fastball's "Are You Ready for the Fallout?" are two of the collection's standout tracks. There's also a nice thematic slant to the music, with several tracks addressing the perils of competition and sports. Monster Magnet's "Kick Out the Jams" is one of the better rock anthems, and Redd Kross's "Teen Competition" (along with Black Lab's "Black Eye") adds some needed pop diversity to this collection. Sure, it's heavy on the testosterone and guitars, but for a movie about 17-year-old football players living in rural Texas, it sounds just about right. --Jason Verlinde

Tracks missing, of course........2006-12-30
As happens EVERY fing time with these movie soundtracks, key tracks which stuck in your mind are missing from CD, in this case, the last track heard during credits, which I think was an Offspring number, which Im now looking for, hopefully Ill know the name when i see it!!
Spine fan.......2004-07-07
I give this cd a 5 just on the simple fact that Caroline's Spine did the title track. If you have never heard their music, you are missing out. They are one of my all time favorite bands and put on the best live shows i have seen. If you like to go see live bands and apreciate good music that you can really get into, then go buy their music. Other titles by them include "Monsoon", Attention Please" "like it or not" and several others. Caroline's Spine is the most under-rated band in history, Jimmy Newquist owns and has one of those golden voices that whenever you hear it you are like " yep thats Caroline's Spine". I took my kids to see them at the Taste of Madison and I will never forget that show because by the end of it i looked down and saw even my kids singing along with the rest of the crowd. Thanks again Caroline's Spine, you guys rock!!!
Rock On, VB!.......2003-07-17
The movie was great and the soundtrack only made it better. Not only as appropriate as it gets, but also some great songs too like Thunderstuck and Nice Guys Finish Last. If you liked the movie, you will love the soundtrack - no questions, if, ands, or buts. Definitly a must buy album.
A GREAT LISTENING EXPERIENCE.......2000-10-28
When I first saw this movie I just could not get over the great music. Well, the soudtrack does not dissapoint. The only problem was the last few songs and the fact that AC/DC was not represented. If you liked the music in the movie get this
It was very good!.......2000-08-21
It was a good soundtrack and if well analysed it fits with the movie. Run was well placed as was all the others and tell me the My Hero by the Foo Fighters isn't the best song for the ending of the movie whent they are playing. Try to. You can't frankly, this is a wonderful fun and excellent soundtrack. people should look at the connections more often, rather then just liking the songs.
