Customer Reviews:
very good.......2003-05-21
This soundtrack really grew on me. After the first listen I thought it was lacking, but after 2-3 hearings, I discovered bits and pieces that are very nice and unique, and very pretty adding new dimention to the score.
it's a cool soundtrack,worth keeping.

Composers that were first signed on to do the score were John Powell, video game composer Nathan McCree, and Michael Kamen. As the premiere got closer, Kamen got off the project and that left someone to compose the music for the score in 10 days! That person is Graeme Revell. Since only 10 days was the time needed to write the music, Revell used mainly electronics with a little bit of orchestra. The result: nothing even remotely exciting. This is not Revell's fault though as he even said in an interview that this score disappointed him, as he felt it did not represent his best work. I definitely agree with him. The music itself is mainly annoying electronic pulses with orchestral and choral effects. "Main Title" is one of the best cues on the album, with a fully orchestral theme for strings and piano. Most of the remainder of the tracks consist of pulse pounding electronics. Tracks like "Home Invasion", "Lara Battles the Stone Monkeys", "Angkor Wat", and "The Letter" consist of techno beat rhythms which give you a headache very fast. Another track that I wish we could hear more of is "The Planetary Alignment" as it contains great choral and orchestral elements in it. Overall, unless you like techno pounding electronic music, I suggest that you stay away from this score and go for something better. A good effort by Revell given the time constraints, but a disappointed listenings worth.

I really like the music for this film becuase it portrays little bits of the movie and as you listen to it you can see the movie go on in your head. This is a great buy and I highly recommend.
