The tender musical heart of this enchanted take on The Man Who Fell to Earth belongs to composer Edward Shearmur, who turns in a largely synthesized score where spare, delicate piano melodies often recall Thomas Newman's deft sense of space and dynamics. While the general musical ethos seems a throwback to the mid-'80s heyday of pioneering electronic scores by Vangelis and Tangerine Dream, contemporary technical advances have allowed Shearmur to impart an ethereal and distinctly organic aural patina to these cues. Though informed by his atmospheric session work with Pink Floyd (The Division Bell), Shearmur's K-PAX score stands apart: quiet, mystically introspective music that seems as uncomplicated--and yet innately profound--as an autumn breeze. --Jerry McCulley

5 out of 5 stars A Real Gem...............2006-12-06

As it plays in my computer for the 3rd time, I'm SOOOOO happy I bought it!
When I saw the movie, I loved the music, and made a mental note to pick it up. It seems like everywhere I looked, the asking price was high...AND THERE'S A REASON FOR THAT!.....Uniquely wonderful and fresh!!!!!!

5 out of 5 stars Work of Art.......2006-10-24

This is the best music I have ever heard, period. This may seem bold or arrogant to say, but I can honestly tell you I have heard nothing this profound. I have listened to thousands of songs throughout my lifetime, and this CD moves me the most. The coda at the end with its powerful notes and movements brings me to tears everytime I hear it. I dare to say this soundtrack, along with the movie has changed my life for the better. Give it a listen.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent movie - great soundtrack.......2006-05-25

I really believe that this movie has been sorely underestimated. K-PAX not only stars one of the most incredible actors I know (Kevin Spacey), but it is absolutely one of my favorite art films. Art films usually don't do very well in theatres and I think far too many people let the so called "critics" tell them whether a movie is good or not. There are a lot of subtle details that make this movie so fun to watch. I highly recommend K-PAX. It is PG-13 for some language and a few disturbing images.

4 out of 5 stars Great Soundtrack (plus if you're looking for the last song . . .).......2006-03-17

Great movie and great soundtrack! Also, just in case anyone was looking for the song that is played at the end of this movie when Jeff Bridges is on his front lawn with the telescope looking up at the stars, the song is "Safe and Sound" by Sheryl Crow, so enjoy! :-)

5 out of 5 stars Very Nice.......2005-09-26

Film and music are inseperable. The musical score often enhances a film's outlook and creates a feeling within the viewer. Edward Shearmur creates Sheer Magic with his score for KPAX. I not only liked the film but the score is magical. Everytime you listen to the score, it takes you to another world. Shearmur uses excellent instrumentation and a hypnotic beat that keeps the soundtrack going till the very end. I highly recommend this CD to lovers of new Age And Film Music.
