The Basketball Diaries: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack [Soundtrack]
Editorial Reviews
Amazon.com
Jim Carroll's harrowing saga of growing up troubled in New York City makes for a solid film with an excellent soundtrack to match. Cuts by a Vedder-less Pearl Jam (joining Carroll to rerecord his 1980 fav "Catholic Boy") and Soundgarden (offering the gloomy "Blind Dogs") merit the hype. P. J. Harvey gets extra mileage out of the brilliant "Down by the Water," Green Apple Quick Step's "Dizzy" is a winner and there's the curiosity factor of a, frankly, awful solo debut by Flea of the Red Hot Chili Peppers. --Jeff Bateman

Strawberry Wine.......2007-01-24
Strawberry Wine is one of the greatest songs ever written. What sucks is it was written by a band that is completely unknown. (Try even Googling this band) Every bit as good and trippy as anything Pink Floyd or Radiohead have ever done.
Strawberry Wine...............2006-08-21
This soundtrack to the Leo DiCaprio movie is pretty good for the most part. The standouts on this disc include "Riders on the Storm" by the Doors, "Down by the Water" by PJ Harvey and "Strawberry Wine" by Massive Internal Complications.
The real reason that I'm even writing this review is just to draw your attention to "Strawberry Wine", which is just a great song that a lot of people haven't heard of. I think the song was just a one-shot because I can't find any information on the band itself or anything else they may have done. Anyway, try to get your hands on that song, it's absolutely fantastic.
It's a slam-dunk........2003-12-09
Like anyone, I picked this up because of all the bands I liked on it. But the real bonus is that the bands I didn't know are just as great, or these songs anyway. One of the well known songs on here is "People Who Died", by the "Jim Carroll Band". All the songs involving him are good. The tracks from "PJ Harvey" and "The Cult" are good. Obviously "Riders On The Storm" is classic. The songs "Coming Right Along" and "Strawberry Wine" are suprisingly good as well. The only disappointments here are from "Flea" and "Soundgarden". Neither song is bad, but I expected more from them. This also has a few inserts from the book "Basketball Diaries".
Great Soundtrack.......2003-02-01
This was an awesome movie and a it's a great soundtrack. The "songs" by Jim Carroll are different and if you buy this CD for any reason, it will have to be for the song "Strawberry Wine." Plain and simple, the song is amazing.
Surprisingly wonderful.......2001-11-20
I actually bought the thing cause at the time I liked Leonardo DiCaprio. Well, suffice to say I'm *over* that phase, but I held onto the CD. This album has a great selection of songs..."Strawberry Wine" (Massive Internal Complications) still sends a chill up my spine. "Coming Right Along" is just as great. I'm able, actually, to listen to the whole CD without skipping around. A well-deserved 5 stars.
