Another installment of the Cult Show That Will Not Die, the 25th anniversary edition of the Rocky Horror soundtrack has, of course, the kinds of things one would expect of an anniversarial edition. These include previously unreleased tracks and a CD booklet that attempts to explain the inexplicable: how character actor Richard O'Brien's little slice of weirdness became such a hit that, a quarter of a century later, it's a Broadway production once again. Even today, there are people out there being, well, exposed to the phenomenon that is Rocky Horror for the first time, and the reaction is always the same: either utter enchantment or utter mystification. There's no denying that the show has a certain appeal. Creator O'Brien has called it "something any 10-year-old can enjoy," and maybe that's the secret: something about Rocky Horror's barely controlled insanity connects with our inner children. Maybe it's Tim Curry's magnetic performance. Maybe it's the music. Maybe it's '70s nostalgia. Whatever the reason, Rocky Horror has proved that one need not be mainstream to become an icon of popular culture. While the images and ideas contained therein might hardly turn a head today, there's nothing else like it that's quite as much fun. --Genevieve Williams

Close, but not quite there........2007-03-28
This album is so close to being a worthwhile release.
I don't regret buying it, because my copy of the soundtrack was the older release on tape.
I'm very happy to have the otherwise unreleased songs on this album. The sound quality is good, but not especially noteworthy.
But the dialogue clips are insufferable. A soundtrack album is supposed to be the music, not an "album of the movie." These clips drastically decrease the likability of this recording - that and the missing end of Planet Shmanet.
There's also the plus that those silly remixes of the Time Warp are absent. And splitting up the Floor Show music sequence is a real plus.
PAGES WERE WATER STAINED AND WAVY.......2007-01-30
I WAS EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED IN THE QUALITY OF THE BOOK OF MUSIC I RECEIVED. THE PAGES HAD OBVIOUSLY GOTTEN WET AND DRIED, SO THE BOOK WAS ALL OUT OF SHAPE. WHEN TRYING TO COPY IT TO MAKE AN EXTRA ONE FOR MY ACCOMPANIST, IT CONSTANTLY GOT STUCK IN THE MACHINE AND IT TOOK FOREVER TO GET THE COPYING DONE. THIS BOOK WAS IN TERRIBLE SHAPE AND I WASTED A LOT OF MONEY TRYING TO COPY IT OVER AND OVER AGAIN. I WILL NEVER NEVER BUY A USED COPY AGAIN AS A RESULT. I LEARNED MY LESSON, BUT THE SELLER OF THE BOOK SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF THEMSELVES FOR MISREPRESENTATION.!!!!!!
ALMOST Complete.......2006-10-28
I am glad this came out but wish that the 1 minute missing of Time warp was in here and the You're a hot dog part of Planet Schmanet Janet.
KUDOS: For including Planet Schmanet Janet (albeit in edited form) I love the beat on it and love the part where Riff Raff and Magenta are laughing and he tells her to shut up.
I think the reason I like the movie (Which I consider more of a Rock Opera than a musical) is the music. Although some of it is better with the pictures it goes to, The songs are great for random singing. Whoever the session drummer was on this was really good as well. Nice fills. I actually enjoy the movie and dislike going to the theater to see it.
Unless you want an idiotic remix of Time Warp, this is the definitive (for now) version to get. We complain but come on, you don't think at some point they won't do another anniversary edition?
Mr. O'Brien, if you read these sites, I heard you wanted to do a sequel, PLEASE DO! just give us more groovy music, be in it and bring back some of the characters from the first one and I'll see it!
havent got it yet.......2005-10-20
looks like a great cd i have another rhps but doesnt have a few of the songs nor does it have a booklet to go wtih it.
as for the people who dont know where the song super heoreos goes is when the castle takes off and u see them on the ground. The crim.s line and "crawling on the planets face some insects called the human race lost in time lost in space" is the last verse. (yes the line was off the top of my head i've wtched a few times too many)
the once in a while song i havent figured oput yet where that goes.
Fond Memories.......2005-08-04
This CD is great. It includes more than just the music from the movie. It has some of the dialogue as well. It also includes a song that was not in the actual motion picture, but it is a nice addition. Anyone wanting to be able to remember going to this midnight movie would truly enjoy owning this CD.

EASTWOOD IS ALSO A GREAT SONGWRITER.......2007-06-11
This is a "semi" career spanning CD (and the only decent one in existence) of the movie themes from some great Eastwood movies. The earlier pieces are from his days in TV and transition to movies. The more mature work with Lennie Niehaus displays Clint's artistry, no not only as an actor, award winning director, but great composer. My only complaint is the disc is missing the off-beat and totally original jazzy "Just A Closer Walk With Thee" from THE GAUNTLET.
The disc does contain his wonderful A PERFECT WORLD and THE UNFORGIVEN. Why Eastwood never won an Oscar for some of his original scores is a mystery to me. He is more celebrated as a director than as an actor only because he won more awards in that category and his acting style was known for it's low-keyed and reactionary style. But the Clint Eastwood the musician cannot be dismissed and here is that more than proves his versatility. A known jazz lover, for fans of that genre, give a listen to WHY SHOULD I CARE from "True Crime", another great Eastwood composition.
The remainder of the disc is a salute to Eastwood and his work with a heavy emphasis on the jazz.
First rate. I've been a fan since his directoral debut in PLAY MISTY FOR ME. Little did I realize what a great composer he would turn out to be.
A must for any fans as there are no single soundtacks available from his movies featuring his work.
Play Misty For Me.......2005-12-20
Nearly an hour and 20 minutes of "Music For the Movies of Clint Eastwood". What fan wouldn't be happy with this CD? 23 Tracks, and a great compilation. From the early TV days, the "Theme from Rawhide"(this was about the time I fell in love with Clint, I think I was about 8)performed by Frankie Lane, and Spaghetti Western, the "The, Good, The Bad, and The Ugly"(does anyone REALLY know the words to this one, and does it really matter?)to the romantic Doe Eyes"(the love theme from "Bridges of Madison County", the music will have you reliving the great moments from great films that just say Clint!
The first half of the album features both Clint's own works and the fabulous talented composers he has worked with. Ennio Moricone's oh so recognizable style("The Good, The Bad and the Ugly"), the moving music of Lennie Niehaus("Pale Rider"), the haunting sounds from Lalo Schfrin("Dirty Harry Theme", where you will relive Clint doing the, "Do you feel lucky punk?" speech), and some other wonderful musicians including the great Civil War and Western sounding "Theme from Outlaw Josey Wales", by Jerry Fielding, and Erroll Garner's"Play Misty For Me", a gorgeous piano rendition. Some of Clint's own works, included are "Claudia's Theme" from "Unforgiven" "Kate's Theme" from "Absolute Power", "Big Fran's Baby" from "A Perfect World", and of course the mesmerizing and above mentioned "Doe Eyes".
Second half is a 10 part instrumental suite, "Clint Eastwood, An American Filmmaker Suite". This is music composed and conducted by Lennie Niehaus for the PBS "American Masters" documentary " Eastwood: Out of the Shadows" The music tells Clint's story musically, and it flows beautifully and emotionally. It has a little of everyting, including some great jazzy numbers. The orchestration and the musicians capture the journey wonderfully. For list of all 23 track titles, see buying info. You can also listen to samples from there.
The quality of the CD is excellent. A pamphlet with some production notes, and the tracks is included. There are some great pix of Clint as well. It doesn't have ALL his films included. Hopefully the music form "Kelly's Heroes"("Burning Bridges) and "The Beguiled"(more from Lalo Schifrin) will make the sequel album!
Take it in your car and listen to it when you are stuck in traffic, and it will take you somewhere else for a while.Just say "Play Misty For Me" and hit track 8. Highly recommended for the Eastwood fan. And for those that can't get enough, I would also recommend the soundtrack to "Bridges of Madison County". One of the most romantic albums I ever heard.
"Head 'Em Up, Move 'Em On....Keep Them Doggies Rollin...Rawhide!"
Enjoy....Laurie
"Go ahead, make your day!".......2004-06-21
There's really not too much to say about this, except that any big fan of "Clint Eastwood", or at least the majority of these movies should like this. What I enjoy most are the tracks from his westerns, as they all set a nice mood, but the rest are very good as well. I can't help but think this would have been twice as good had it contained dialogue from each of these films too. Overall a great collection for the fan. After all, if there's one thing "Clint" knows about as much as his acting, it's his music.

The name of this song???.......2007-02-05
Whats the name of that song thats playing when Jess pretends that shes sick at home while her family goes out somewhere just so she can sneak out and go play footy?
Great regardless of version - and there are 5 differences between Brit & Indian versions.......2006-10-31
This is a great soundtrack - found some Indian songs I'd never even heard of that I really like, especially "Jind Mahi" by Malkit Singh and "Tere Bin Nahin Lagda" by Partners In Rhyme with Nusrat Faten Ali.
Buyers should note that are indeed differences between the British (22 tracks) and Indian (21 tracks) versions. Make sure you order the one you really want by confirming with individual sellers about which edition they're actually selling. I myself ordered the British and received the Indian.
Here are the differences that really haven't been described accurately in previous reviews.
The British and American versions have these exclusive tracks:
Titles - Craig Pruess And Bally Sagoo Ft Gunjan
Hai Rabai - Craig Pruess And Bally Sagoo Ft Gunjan
The British version has this exclusive track:
Do Your Thing - Basement Jaxx
The Indian version has these exclusive tracks:
Move On Up - Curtis Mayfield
Rail Gaddi - Kuljit Bhamra
So basically there are five differences in total between the British and Indian versions while the American version is the most watered down.
Song at end between Jess and Joe on football field.......2006-01-07
I am begging anyone at all to help me.
I know this has been asked before repeatedly but if anyone knows the title of the song (possibly Indian) at the end where Jess finds Joe in the dark on the football field I would love you forever if you told me.
Not only is this my favourite piece of music, but i also I feel this is the ultimate piece for conveying powerful emotions and meaning and shows us how we should appreciate everything we have.
Help me please find it.
Song while Jess tells Joe she can go to California.......2005-11-29
I thought the soundtrack to "Bend it Like Beckham" had quite a few really good songs, but I was disappointed that more Indian songs weren't included. Does anyone know what the song is called when Jess runs up to Joe at the soccer field to tell him that she can go to school in California?
The Last Song - While at the airport.......2005-11-19
I am trying to find the last song when they were saying goodbye at the airport. Does anyone know name and title??

ABSOLUTE COOL !.......2004-09-07
The 1986 film Absolute Beginners is sort of the British/European version of 1984's Streets of Fire(though Beginners was a film-musical fantasy epic about the 1958 British riots)...Both contained characters, themes and elements of rock, rebellion, and 50's noirish movie theatrics, boy meets girl or saves girl...Both films suffered miserable ticket sales and luke warm reviews(if you blinked, they were gone)... Both films contained hot soundtracks that probably did better in sales than their film counterparts. Yet, Beginners like Streets shares that underground mutual cult following status among soundtrack music collectors such as myself or anyone with an eclectic music collection and a taste for the nostalgic...
The soundtrack is a great mixture of late 50's pop-swing-jazz stylings with a few tracks containing some Latin influences (check out the bossa nova flavored Have You Evere Had It Blue by the Style Council).Clive Langer's Napoli and Working Week's Rodrigo Bay also have that Latin or Carribean island backdrop feel and atmospheric sound. The real highlights include a swingin' jazz torch tune by Sade (Killer Blow). Jonas' hip song Little Cat is a riveting and highly catchy 50's sock hop throwback that could have been saved for the Hairspray soundtrack a couple of years later(though Hairspray takes place in the early 60's). Actress Patsy Kensit (Lethal Weapon 2) does a whispy voiced jazz beat-nik number complete with bongos and background fingersnaps...This soundtrack will take you to a different era and time (late 50's, beginning 60's).
There is a lot of wonderful musical arrangements and toe tapping orchestrations. The David Bowie title track tune is probably the only modern contemporary sounding song. Absolute beginners is absolutely infectious and I love the strong pop-jazz influences...You can almost picture a party in someone's retro 50's-60's entertainment parlor or lounge or even a classy nightclub of that era...
This is a soundtrack I recommend for anyone who loves be-bop, jazz, swingin' pop infused tunes with some Latin elements, along with some big band orchestrations ! Also, make sure you can get a hold of the c.d. European import (difficult to find nowadays) which contains 18 tracks as opposed the the American cassette version I once owned which only had 10 tracks. In addition, the import cd/album cover displays the brilliantly colorful great art work/ and comic book-like painting you see here on Amazon.com. The 10 track cheap American version cover artwork had a photo of the two main characters sitting or riding on a moped.
FABULOUS, FUN, ECCLECTIC MX.......2004-04-30
I'm SO PSYCHED to find this CD available on import. It was one of my favorite cassettes -- so much so that tape is warped and unlistenable by now. I've never found it on CD in the US before. Even better this import contains trakcs not available on the American release, such as Bowie singing "Volare" which you can only hear in the background in the actual film.
Some of the songs are pure pop, some are full-out movie musical production numbers. One thing is album isn't is boring.
From Sade's track "Killer Blow" to the effortlessly cool "Have You Ever Had It Blue" this album really is quite special. The film was directed by Jullian Temple, a hot music video director back in the 80's, and while the film itself is flawed, Temple's music background comes raging through. FAB ALBUM!
Riots, Romance, and Be-Bop in London.......2002-11-07
I originally bought this on cassette during my musical heyday. That piece of music only had the first ten songs. Imagine my surprise when I discovered that the CD had an extra eight songs, all of them songs I enjoyed from the movie and fretted from their exclusion.
David Bowie's title track, played in its full eight minutes glory, is one of his best songs ever, ranking up there with "Space Oddity" and "Life On Mars?" It captures the hope yearned for amid the jungle of broken dreams and teeming nightlife. The verses are more melancholy, but rises to a chorus of hope "If our love song/could climb over mountains/could laugh like the ocean/just like the films" The female singer accompanying Bowie has the right stylings for this number. "That's Motivation", his number about what drives people to succeed, does not quite reach that height, but it's still enjoyable. The third song he does is a cover of "Volare," made famous by Dean Martin.
Sade's "Killer Blow" is extraordinary in a different way than her songs up to that point, and shows she is quite at home doing the 50's jazz genre. The bongo drums are a nice touch. If she made an entire album like this, I'd buy it!
"Have You Ever Had It Blues?" with its backing female vocal rhythm and jazz stylings demonstrates why Style Council was a great Paul Weller vehicle, much underrated in the US.
The Kinks' Ray Davies, who plays Colin's father in the movie, has a serene number with "Quiet Life." The main point in the song is that despite his being buried in the past, "confidentially between these walls, I'm on top of it all. Other lyrics that struck me: "Can't communicate with minds that are small/with some people it's like talking to a wall."
Patsy Kensit's "Having It All" demonstrates why she should have stuck to acting. Her singing is mousey/squeaky, as if she inhaled a mixture of weird gases, including helium. However, it's not that bad a distraction from the album.
The Caribbean sounds of Working Week's "Rodrigo Bay" with a husky wailing female vocalist, is yet another aspect of the soundtrack. Clive Langer's "Napoli" begins slow but gathers up pace and is accompanied by reggae keyboards, resulting in a hybrid of jazz and reggae.
Jonas' "Little Cat (You've Never Had It So Good)" is the song Baby Boom, the child singing sensation, sings in the movie, complete with roars. It's perfect late 50's pop and another favourite on this collection. Tenpole Tudor's rockabilly number mocks Buddy Holly, Eddie Cochrane, and Jerry Lee Lewis. There's also Smiley Culture's reggae number, "So What", played after the climactic riot.
Gil Evans' fast-paced numbers represent the horns and drum swing jazz aspect with "Va Va Voom", the number Suzette dances to at the fashion show, "Boogie Stop Shuffle," which is played during the opening scenes revealing the London nightlife, and "Better Git It In Your Soul." However, he is rivalled by Slim Gaillard's raucous "Selling Out" with horns and xylophone and quick-paced female backing vocals going "Will he? Won't he? Can he? May he? Maybe." This is the number done at Dido Lament's party and represents a festivity in full swing.
This disc is a combination of contemporary pop, jazz, and 50's-style pop, and as such is a delight, with the latter two genres effectively capturing the spirit of the times.
Absolute Gorgeous.......2002-09-25
From the opening number to the closing track, this album is sharp, witty, funny and so full of music, one ends up drunk listening to it all.
It's all done in a jazz/pop style with some ska, rock n' roll and Teddy boy thrown in for good measure.
Sade does a turn with the sultry "Killer Blow" (arrangement by veteran American jazz arranger Gil Evans) that includes lines that snakes around her vocal and then proceeds to careen like a train running through traffic.
Bowie does the title track, a big brassy Evans arranged "commercial" called "That's Motivation" and a send-up of the old Italian tune- "Volare"- done in a lounge style.
There are latinish songs ("Rodrigo Bay"), discoish jazz songs ("So What"), strange moody songs ("Have You Ever Had It Blue?") dance intrumentals ("Va Va Voom") and a ballet-like voodoo number ("Riot City")that is a soundtrack for many a performance to come.
This version even includes musical interludes by Evans that set a mood to keep you into this LP for the duration.
A definite must have.
I don't know what the first reviewer is talking about.......2000-03-29
He obviously is confusing this CD with something else. It's not German, it's not hip-hop, and except for the occasional hip slurring, you can understand what's sung. This CD is actually a soundtrack to the British film of the same name. It's a little be-bop (be not hip) very jazzy and very eclectic. I love this CD because it's atmospheric and puts me in a very specific mood. I highly recommend the tracks "Having it All" and "So What?".

Customer Reviews:
Good listening.......2000-06-11
For years I listened to the theme music on Inspector Morse and wondered what it was. Now that Amazon makes it easy to track such things down, I know. These three albums (volumes 1, 2, and 3) combine Barrington Pheloung's wonderful theme and background music with Morse's favorites (be warned, we get into some opera here). The three volumes provide an excellent evening of classical music.

Album Description
Leonardo - The Absolute Man is a reasoned, selective re-telling of the life of a great man, Leonardo da Vinci, the ultimate Renaissance man. It has been in the works for years, originating as the ultimate artistic dream of Magna Carta label head Peter Morticelli, who then placed the intellectual blueprints in the hands of Trent Gardner who commenced to create what is by far, the most complex, grand and magnificently sweeping collaboration the label has ever attempted.
Leonardo sounds like no other progressive rock construct you have ever heard. It is a mix of cinematic progressive rock, symphonic rock, progressive pop and progressive metal, graced and articulated by true classical music and the theatrical scope of state-of -the-art soundtrack or dramatic stage music.
Customer Reviews:
My Il Divino.......2005-12-16
This is the story that has not been told. It was sorely needed. This excellent musical event gives tangible woof and weft to the life that was Leonardo's. Visari didn't capture this.
Anyone who rates this piece poorly might want to recalibrate their listening habits. This is rare. In fact, I have purchased copies to send to other artists and musicians.
I guess I relate to this more because circumstantially, Leonardo and I have some things in common. Well done.
Superlative musical portrait.......2005-04-11
Along with J.S. Bach and Shakespeare, Leonardo da Vinci stands as one of my eternal heroes, with da Vinci perhaps the greatest of the three. Therefore, any musical endeavor that undertakes to capture his brilliance is one that I must find myself drawn to, with a critical but understanding eye, given the magnificence that the music would have to achieve in order to do the great Master justice.
From the first moments of Leonardo - The Absolute Man, I could tell that this was going to be an excellent attempt at accurately representing Il Divino in musical terms. Being one of those rare people who actually enjoyed both of Explorers Club's CDs, I could really get into the sound of this album. The instrumental writing and playing is exciting and brilliant. It does manage to reflect different facets of Leonardo himself, at times precise and complex, but deeply pensive and emotional at others.
As far as casting goes, I was fairly happy, I would say. The singing talent is, of course, virtually unmatched on any album; even Arjen Lucassen's projects don't manage to assemble a more talent-filled list. LaBrie especially shines for me, since I'm more familiar with him than any of the others, though I also like Mike Baker's singing on this album. At first, Lisa Bouchelle didn't seem quite right as Mona Lisa, but I grew accustomed to her, and having read an interview she gave on Highwire-Daze, I respect what she does for the character. And what can I say, if this were ever live, I wouldn't mind seeing her onstage ;-). I have no qualms with any of the other choices.
Ultimately, I would say that this is a very well-made album, and one that takes an interestingly personal, if slightly fanciful, look at da Vinci. Though there isn't enough time to paint him as the Homo universalis that he surely was, the 66 minutes we do get are as true to him in spirit as one could hope for. And while it would be presumptuous of me to say he'd have been proud, I think he would have appreciated it, and I can't imagine any other current band doing anything half as worthy to bear his name.
Beautiful.......2004-01-18
It's fantastic. Especially Dream Theater's James LaBrie's voice on "Shaping the Invisible". One of the best voices today! The duets "First Commission" and "This Time, This Way" are incredible. Gardner's songwriting talent is indubitable. Prog and Magna Carta at their best. Highly recommended.
Absolute Train Wreck!.......2003-12-23
Okay, perhaps it's not as horrible as Trent Gardner's other recent project, Explorers Club "Raising the Mammoth." But I really should have learned my lesson with this guy after the halfway-decent "Age of Impact" (the first Explorers Club album).
Gardner has no ear for melody! ZERO! Here we get more of his awkward writing with good singers struggling mightily to salvage it. And as another reviewer pointed out - the sound is awful!
With all of the top-notch progressive rock being put out today, there is no excuse for something this inferior. I have to believe that all of the 5-star reviews here are written by Gardner's friends and family. Trent, please, go back to law school or whatever it was that you were doing before you decided to become a musician!
decent.......2003-06-18
There are a few decent tracks on here but alot of wish wash as well. Most of the songs are unstructured and lyricaly challenged. A few of the duets are excellent but dont make up for the mediocrity leading up to them. I really wanted to love this cd but find myself cringing if I try to listen through the whole thing.
