Customer Reviews:
Underated Gem.......2006-09-27
Surf Ninjas the movie was an underated gem. The movie, while not up to high Hollywood standards, is one of my very favorites. The lack of perfect timing and flawed sets are what makes it so enchanting. It has some of the VERY BEST dialog EVER in a movie. I bought the soundtrack right after I first viewed it on the weight of the instrumental by David Kitay alone. It is called "Takin' A Wave" and it is played during the fight scene in the back of the chain gang's truck. I have not regretted owning this soundtrack. Tone Loc's "Hit the Coast" is terrific. Bad Company's "Here Comes Trouble" always brings a smile to my face (I compare it to the movie scene). The only downside to this wonderful soundtrack is the less-than-great "Dance On The Water" by Us, Da North Shore Surf Band, and it is absolutely dreadful. Even after all of these years, I still can't stand to listen to that particular song much. But that aside, and repeating what I said earlier, I bought it for the David Kitay instrumentals, and I would recommend it to others for those alone. Buy the movie, buy the soundtrack. Kwantzu Dudes!
Dont Be Discouraged.......2005-03-31
Of course everyone has their own opinion...except for the other guy who reviewed this. The music, as well as the movie, is incredible. It is a childhood classic that only gets funnier the older and smarter you get. Everything that comes out of Rob Schneider's mouth is gold. Yes, that's right, Rob Schneider. And I'm sorry, but anytime a young Rob Schneider, a cranky Leslie Nielson, and a token Tone-Loc team up, you are sure to get amazing dialogue such as the conversation about the priceless knives of Kwansuu.
Rob: (Rants and whines about how knives aren't priceless and everyone is stupid)
Zatch: Will this chattering monkey ever shut up?
Tone: Well I'd cut him, but I dont have a knife.
And then there's little Adam, who is wise beyond his years, even if he cant find Spain.
Adam: The people here love this word. It must mean...free beer or something.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAH
watch the movie, buy the soundtrack
TONE LOC IS ON IT
And it is another hot day in Southern California.......2005-03-04
I bought this CD because it features the Bobs' cover version of "Barbara Ann", which is unavailable elsewhere. And it turns out that "Barbara Ann" is not one of the Bobs' better cover songs. Which would explain why they didn't include it on one of their own albums. As for the rest of the album... it's the soundtrack to an Ernie Reyes, Jr. movie, so how good could it be? Well, I have actually listened to it, so I will tell you that the answer is "not very". The song by Tone Loc is okay, but the rest is pretty bad. A warning: they only had eight actual songs, so they padded the album out with two instrumental score tracks. I have never seen this film, but I have seen the cover of this CD, and it definitely did not make me want to see the movie. It is a picture of Ernie Reyes, Jr., Rob Schneider and some boy brandishing swords and riding a surfboard and surfing over the head of Leslie Nielson. How this movie failed to get nominated for any Academy Awards is beyond me. It must have slipped through the cracks. I can't believe I wasted time writing a review that no one will read.
