Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Really great, even if you didn't see the movie.......2006-09-06

My wife and I love this music from the movie. The orchestral arrangements are great. This soundtrack consists mostly of the same three themes and variations thereupon, but with such wide arrays of treatment that it is really fun to listen to. It also helps that the movie was so vibrant that each individual scene can be called to mind simply by hearing the related track. Mostly consists of 1920s-style Jazz, but the dream sequence is very new-age. Colin Firth and Rupert Everett are simply hilarious, lending their voices to a song based on lyrics by Oscar Wilde.

5 out of 5 stars Classic music from a classic movie!.......2002-10-23

The soundtrack to "The Importance of Being Earnest" is one that no music lover should be without. Right after seeing the movie I purchased the soundtrack. Even though I knew that the music was catchy in the movie, there was so much going on that it was really secondary. However, when you have nothing BUT the music playing, it is amazing! The music is a mix of toe-tapping movements and scene-recalling sounds. The song that Colin Firth and Rupert Everett sing is even included, and even funnier than when they sing it in the movie. I would highly recommend this soundtrack to add to your collection! FIVE STARS!! *****

4 out of 5 stars Colin Firth Sings!.......2002-07-24

Imagine that. A rich ragtime jazzy compliation of songs which vividly bring you back to scenes from the movie. Rupert and Colin are hysterically funny but sweet in their versions of Lady Come Down.

5 out of 5 stars "the spirit of Wilde lives on through Oliver Parker & Mole".......2002-05-14

This third remake of mistaken identities is quite witty with a biting tone that is captured by the director Oliver Parker, and a cast of players that pull this off with style. The roles are suited for Rupert Everett (Algernon Moncrieff), Colin Firth (Jack Worthing), Judi Dench (Lady Bracknell), Frances O'Connor (Gwendolyn Fairfax) and Reese Witherspoon (Cecily Cardew) is delightfully funny with a "Once upon a Time" hint, that completely confuses all the characters as to who is "Earnest". Well I won't spoil it for you, you'll just have to listen to the
score.

Our composer, Charlie Mole comes up with one of the happiest and delightful scores, reminiscent of the Henry Mancini days. Not since the Mancini years, have we had such a wonderful selection of tunes, each listener travels farther and farther into the story line. Mole's music takes you into the realm of aristocratic thick of things, with a adventurous touch that brings Oscar Wilde's story up to date with all the musical entrapments. Two wealthy noblemen hoping to win the love of their "hearts desire", each cue becomes more than just music, but a character within the film.

Hats off to Eliza Thompson (music supervisor), Simon Chamberlain (orchestrator), Geoff Alexander (conductor/orchestrator) and wonderfully recorded and mixed by my favorite engineer Mike Ross-Trevor. All in all, this score is a "film-score-buffs" fantasy come true, each cue has several genres. Throughout the album we have sprinkles of Jazz, Swing, shades of Scott Joplin and Parlor Tunes, even Rupert and Colin take a run at "LADY COME DOWN", a light and refreshing vocal duo that adds a personal touch. My highlight pick is "PERFECTLY HEARTLESS", collects each theme and wraps them into one neat package, gotta love it!
