"the spirit of Wilde lives on through Oliver Parker & Mole".......2002-05-14
Our composer, Charlie Mole comes up with one of the happiest and delightful scores, reminiscent of the Henry Mancini days. Not since the Mancini years, have we had such a wonderful selection of tunes, each listener travels farther and farther into the story line. Mole's music takes you into the realm of aristocratic thick of things, with a adventurous touch that brings Oscar Wilde's story up to date with all the musical entrapments. Two wealthy noblemen hoping to win the love of their "hearts desire", each cue becomes more than just music, but a character within the film.
Hats off to Eliza Thompson (music supervisor), Simon Chamberlain (orchestrator), Geoff Alexander (conductor/orchestrator) and wonderfully recorded and mixed by my favorite engineer Mike Ross-Trevor. All in all, this score is a "film-score-buffs" fantasy come true, each cue has several genres. Throughout the album we have sprinkles of Jazz, Swing, shades of Scott Joplin and Parlor Tunes, even Rupert and Colin take a run at "LADY COME DOWN", a light and refreshing vocal duo that adds a personal touch. My highlight pick is "PERFECTLY HEARTLESS", collects each theme and wraps them into one neat package, gotta love it!
