Not to be confused with the collection Songs Inspired by the Chronicles of Narnia, this album is Harry Gregson-Williams's instrumental score for the movie. Marking the composer's third collaboration with director Andrew Adamson (after both Shrek flicks), this score also is one of the more mature offerings from Gregson-Williams, best known for his work on family films. The music is lush and assured, if a bit predictable. Indeed, it fits squarely in the current style popular for big epics--even using (on a few tracks) the vocals of Lisbeth Scott, which fall halfway between those of Enya and the Cocteau Twins' Liz Fraser (both of whom, uncoincidentally, appeared on the Lords of the Rings soundtracks). The CD concludes with four songs, with Gregson-Williams cowriting Scott's "Where." On "Can't Take It In," Imogen Heap's vocal acrobatics eerily recall those of the Cranberries' Dolores O'Riordan, while Alanis Morissette's "Wunderkind" is an inspirational, almost girl-powerish track written from the point of view of the movie's Lucy. But the best of these songs is "Winter Light" by Tim Finn, four minutes of understated, piano-driven melancholia. Look for it tucked near the very end of the CD. Note that the soundtrack comes also as a two-CD special edition . The second disc is a DVD that includes galleries of film stills and concept art, a featurette about the recordings of the score and a making-of featurette. There's also a segment in which the (mostly) Christian bands involved in the Songs Inspired by... album talk about their involvement in that project. --Elisabeth Vincentelli

5 out of 5 stars Great soundtrack.......2007-06-26

I bought this for my wife. My wife, my kids and I all love it.

5 out of 5 stars Sharing with Others.......2007-05-23

This movie was a big success at our home. We saw it at the local theaters and decided to buy it upon release. We also have purchased other copies to give to friends.

We look forward to the future movies of the other 5 books.

5 out of 5 stars Depth of quality.......2007-05-20

I enjoyed the soundtrack immensely, except for the last three songs which have vocals. This is much better than the movie. I just wish they would list the companies would list the musician's that performed the music.

5 out of 5 stars Brilliant minds.......2007-03-14

This is one of the best soundtrack I've ever listened to.From the serene "Lucy Meets Mr.Tumnus"to the soaring theme found in many of the tracks,Harry-Greggson Williams does a masterful job at creating a magical Narnia.I listened to this nonstop when I first got it,and I still listen to it more than any other soundtrack.
The four(three really, because Winter Light is utterly detestable)songs at the end are reason enough to buy this CD."I Can't Take It In" is brilliant with Imogen Heap's incredible talent."Wunderkind" is so artful and expertly written,it has become one of my favorite songs.
So this soundtrack meets all the requirements for a great soundtrack-great theme, amazing creativity, and stellar songs.

4 out of 5 stars Piano, Vocal and Guitar Music from Narnia.......2007-03-10

This book has eight of the songs from The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. Some of the songs, such as Evacuating London and Father Christmas, include some fairly advanced musical notation. Evacuating London, Lucy Meets Mr. Tumnus, A Narnia Lullaby and Father Christmas do not include guitar notation. However, this is authentic Narnia music, as composed by Harry Gregson-Williams. The first eight pages consist of colored pictures from the movie. The only thing that would make this music book even better would be inclusion of The Battle, which we are still looking for.

Let's be clear from the outset that this release is not the soundtrack to the highly anticipated film adaptation of C.S. Lewis' age-old literary classic series: The Chronicles of Narnia. Nevertheless, the first The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe serves as inspiration to a collection of original songs penned by high-profile Christian artists. While knowledge of the books is helpful to grasp the emotional direction of this release, fans don't need to be all too familiar as nearly every song is attractive in its own right. Jars of Clay opens in fine style with the airy "Waiting for the World to Fall" followed by Steven Curtis Chapman's catchy "Remembering You" and Bethany Dillon's delightful "Hero." Other highlights include Delirious' "Stronger," which will remind fans of the band's superb Glo release from years back, and Toby Mac's "New World" which resonates with his street-hot brand of rap-rock. David Crowder fans will be pleasantly surprised with the exotic "Turkish Delight," a fun romp that takes Crowder's musical style the extra mile. Finishing the same way it begins, this Narnia release ends with the infectious "You're the One" from worship leader extraordinaire Chris Tomlin. Lewis' literary series has influenced generations of young believers and now a fine original work of art has encouraged more of the same. --Michael Lyttle

This collection is incomplete without the celestial sound of Michele Tumes and her "Untamed Lion". Why was this excluded?

4 out of 5 stars Great and complimentary to the movie and the soundtrack.......2007-01-07

Everything about the Chronicles of NArnia is amazing; the books, the movie, the sountrack... Therefore, this album has a lot to live up to. But it does its job admiringly. I had never listened to Christian rock before this cd, and it just goes to show that trying new things is really beneficial. The Jars of Clay opener is strong and engaging as well as Camp's "Open Up your Eyes". "Stronger" by Delirious is a light and sweet tune but lacks depth lyrically. The next track however, "Lion", is amazing and probably the best on the cd ("feels like I'm living in a lion's mouth, but the lion is an angel"). "I Will Believe" is a gorgeous sounding composition and then the album bursts loose with the crazy "Turkish Delight" by the DAvid Crowder Band. It's a great foot tapping song with lyrics that tell the exact story of Edmund and his obsession. A few of the songs on this cd are subpar which is why overall it got a 4. Otherwise, it's got some really engaging and creative melodies and is highly recommended to any NArnia lover.

5 out of 5 stars Great CD.......2006-07-15

I bought this CD after going to a Rebecca St.James concert and hearing her sing the song Lion. The songs on this CD are well written and well preformed.

4 out of 5 stars Eventhough it's not the soundtrack, but I enjoyed it........2006-06-13

Firstly, I don't like this album much because it's not my style at all. Mine, well, is Classical, Opera, Choral, and Soundtracks. But, I have to admit that this album is not that bad, I want to tell you that IF you want the movie soundtrack, you should take a carefully look more. It's not quite a good thing that you've purchased the wrong album, and wrote a blaming or bad review back. It's YOUR fault, actually. If you want the soundtrack, you should look at it more carefully. Also, I think it wrote on the cover quite clearly that this album is a 'MUSIC INSPIRED BY' album. However, I wrote this review for this album, not to blame the others, so I would like to begin my EXCLUSIVE FIRST review TRACK-BY-TRACK for Music Inspired by The Chronicles of Narnia. Oops! I almost forget it. I hope that I shall have a chance to write TRACK-BY-TRACK review for the other album, too. My projects are 'The Lord of The Rings: The Return of The King' original soundtrack composed by Howard Shore, and 'The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe' ORIGINAL special-edition SOUNDTRACK composed by Harry Gregson-Williams. So, some days later, there might be my review TRACK-BY-TRACK for these spectacular albums. Keep looking on my reviews, then. And Thanks, for the future.

Many of us might remember Steven Curtis Chapman. He wrote a song in the album 'Music Inspired by The Passion of The Christ'. Now, he's back in this album.

All right, I maybe talked too much now. Let's begin my review, then.

Track 1-Waiting for the world to fall
The music was good-written, and I use to have more confident when I listen to this track. Jars of Clay, the band, done this song nicely, and worthy the first song on the album.

Track 2-Remembering You
I think this track should appear in the last track on the album. The lyrics, and the music tell you that whatever may happens, no matter how bad is it, I shall be remembering you. I shall never forget the smell of flowers, or spring, or whatsoever that's good. Yeah, it should be the last track, but...

Track 3-Open up your eyes
The song shows you about new believe, new faith that you need to accept it, and open up your eyes and your mind, to see more in this world. It's good song, but a bit noisy.

Track 4-Hero
This song begins with rock music, but it's nice at the end. Maybe it shows about Aslan, the lion. He, probably related to the song as a Hero that we've been waiting for. However, I don't like the singer. She sings very, very unclear, and very hard to know what she sings.

Track 5-Stronger
Well, it's quite strange track. You see, the first four tracks are quite noisy and fun that pulled us in, but this one is different. It's slow, and not so exciting. And, I have to admit that I don't like the singer. He doesn't seem to pay attention much.

Track 6-Lion
My first listen, I didn't enjoy this track much, but then, when I listen for the fifth time, I think. This track's become my favourite track on the album. It's really a good song that sometimes makes me enjoy, but also, sometimes it makes me sad. I, basically, don't know why, but I really like the lyric of this song. Of course, this song tells you about Aslan. Rebecca St. James has prooved her performence once again. So, sometimes your first listen isn't always correct.

Track 7-New World
I don't like this track much. It's just screaming around like no people does. So, I didn't take my attention listening to this track, and I dare not write my review wrongly. Sorry.

Track 8-I will believe
Another good track in this album. But, it should be more slowly for this song. It's too fast that music does not complicated with the lyric.

Track 9-Turkish delight
I don't like rap music much, this track is for someone who likes rap, I don't like this track as same as New world. Clearly the song relates to Edmund.

Track 10-More than it seems
This track is nice, almost the end of the album. It's a good song and the band played nicely. I enjoyed this track.

Track 11-You're the one
Here we come to the last track on this album. I think it's too rocky song. But, it's just OK. I think Remembering you by Steven Curtis Chapman should come instead of this track to end the album, and move this track to track 2. But, yeah, for someone who likes rock music, he/she might enjoy it.

Here I end my first EXCLUSIVE TRACK-BY-TRACK review for MUSIC INSPIRED BY THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA: THE LION, THE WITCH AND THE WARDROBE. Also, I'd be glad if you'll take a look at my review in The Da Vinci Code Soundtrack. Please look forward on my reviews for the other albums. Thank you for your looking in the future.

4 out of 5 stars Fun stuff that's "getting better everyday".......2006-04-08

This is good music. It's even almost as marvelous as the movie. "Music Inspired by the Chronicles of Narnia" is a special soundtrack sure inspires you to see it again if you've already seen it. I highly recommend most of the songs here. The entire cd is 42 minutes long, but it certainly does not feel that long at all {the movie was almost 2 and half hours and that doesn't feel like it either, go figure}. I think the soundtrack fits well with the movie. Not only that, but every song makes you feel darn good in it's own way. I knew that after hearing a couple of good songs I was going to get it, like I said, it's almost as good as the movie and that's basically the bottom line. That's about all I have to say about it, only in a rambling matter. Just let me tell you it's generally highly recommended {again}, as especially is the great movie on dvd that it's inspired by, and it's easy to see why.

5 out of 5 stars Inspiring.......2007-01-27

The soundtrack is absolutely astounding. You can listen to it for hours without growing tired of it. It reminds you that we each need to always strive to attain our best and watch out for the welfare of thers.

5 out of 5 stars Not just for children.......2006-08-20

This is wonderful story-telling, engaging without being cloying, a fantasy with realistic principles, not to mention relationships. The four Pevensie children are no strangers to anyone who has ever cared for or even known children, a true family, with its ups and downs, love and squabbles, falling and forgiveness, and we are invited to share their adventures in joining the fight led by a regal and courageous lion named Aslan, against a witch queen who has held the land in fear and cold for decades. All is informed by a lovely, haunting, and often stirring soundtrack, which is included individually, and which could quite possibly stand on its own without having accompanied a movie. Both are so well done that we become unaware that we are being ushered into a Narnian world, coursing through storybook adventure, a tribute to the author and also to all those whose hard work and dedication combined to make an experience and a world so winning and complete as to be well worth revisiting, as often as one wishes.

5 out of 5 stars Soundtrack DVD vs. Second movie DVD.......2006-07-22

This is what I would call a good soundtrack. I am not writing this review for the music of the Narnia soundtrack, because there are enough of these already. You should be able to form an opinion of it by reading other people's reviews. But, I do REALLY like it! There was some information that I needed, when I was buying my soundtrack, regarding which edition of soundtrack I should get. If I had the information I needed, I probably would not have bought the special edition soundtrack I ended up getting. I got it because I found a good deal, on Amazon actually, and I wanted to compare the DVD to the second DVD in the special edition movie, which we own. So...this is the information I needed, a comparison.

Soundtrack DVD

1. Film art gallery is good, if you like film art, although I thought it was boring.
2. Concept art gallery I find boring so to be honest I didn't watch it on this DVD since I looked at it in the book.
3. Behind the Magic of Narnia is all on the website except an interview with the composer which was quite good.
4. Theatrical trailer is on the website. You can actually get more trailers on the website for free.
5. Music inspired by the film I believe is all on the website also.

Movie DVD

1. Chronicles of a director was very funny and informative and fascinating.
2. The children's magical journey was also hilarious and you really get to know the children's personalities.
3. C.S. Lewis: From one man's mind was an interesting movie bio on C.S. Lewis.
4. Cinematic Storyteller's is an extremely interesting view of the movie from eight different minds; this also has an interview with the composer which is different from the Soundtrack DVD and very good.
5. Creating creatures was a FACSINATING look at the world of creatures both costume and CGI (computer generated images).
6. Anatomy of a scene: the melting river is all interesting ...

If you haven't guessed already, I could go on for a long time because there is much more but in the interest of brevity I will wrap it up. I enjoyed the movie DVD much more than the soundtrack DVD. The special edition soundtrack is not worth your money new. I would spend my money on the movie and not the extra DVD with the soundtrack although I love the soundtrack itself and think it is well worth the money.

4 out of 5 stars Would be better with a different title.......2006-08-27

I didn't look close enough at the track list before buying this. I was very excited to see a soundtrack of the BBC versions of The Chronicles of Narnia, since I love the music in them (not to mention the movies in general). Unfortunately, the Narnia music is only the first 7 tracks.

The whole CD has great music, and I think I would have enjoyed it more if I hadn't been expecting the whole thing to be Narnia. A lot of the other music on it reminds me of Sherlock Holmes music. It is a great CD, and I definitely recommend it...but don't expect a full CD of Narnia music.

I never get tired of hearing this narnia music over and over again. Mr. Burgon really captures the heart and soul of Narnia through his music. In opinion, it easily surpasses the new film music at times (both Tumnus themes are very good).

I did not care for all the choral (enya-like) music from the new film, and this music has none of that.

4 out of 5 stars Great movie, wonderful addition to the books.......2001-07-12

I have always loved the Narnia books, and this movie didn't change the story very much, execept that they made Trufflehunter female. The special effects look rather fake (which is why I gave it four stars instead of five), but the scenery, the costumes, and the actors are wonderful. My favorite actors in this movie are: Ronald Pickup (the voice of Aslan), Samuel West (the older King Caspian), Richard Dempsey (Peter) and, of course, my VERY favorite, Jonanthan Scott, who did a spectacualar job playing Edmund. All in all, I think think this movie is great!

4 out of 5 stars Brings much loved tales to life..........2000-02-12

My grade 4 school teacher introduced me to Narnia via C.S. Lewis's famous 1st book in the series: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. A few years later I received the entire series as a Christmas present and have been in love ever since. I chanced upon the video's some 5 years ago and having little money purchased just the one. I am now kicking myself for not trying to get the other 2! The movie combines the 2 books Prince Caspian and The Voyage of The Dawn Treader. Both filmed in 1989, these are 2 video's sold together, one covering 60 min and the other an 1 hr and 45 min. The costuming, set design and acting are all well done for both stories. In particular I enjoyed the portrayals of Trumpkin (Big Mick) and Edmund (Jonathan R. Scott) in the 1st movie. Some of the special effects are not so wonderful but serve to tell the stories and younger children of course won't take notice. The only main problem was the voice of Aslan (Ronald Pickup) which didn't seem to suit Lewis's description at all. I'd say the voice done in the animated film was more accurate. Also the make-up work done for the creatures (Trufflehunter the badger and Reepicheep the mouse) look glaringly bad to an adult. Don't expect a Titanic budgeted film here. The special effect of Glenstorm the centaur is wonderfully done. The script of course doesn't stay true to the books entirely but some things have to be condensed in the time allowed. (Although why Trufflehunter becomes a female in the movie I wish I knew! *S*) The second movie was done just as well if not better. Filmed on location in Tresco around the Iles of Sicily and an estate in Llangollen gives the movie the proper feel of a voyage. Breathtaking is the vessel "Carrie" stand in for the Dawn Treader. The best performances for me were put in by Samuel West as King Caspian and of course David Thwaites as Eustace. One might also note that Gabrielle Anwar is cast as Ramandu's daughter. (listed as Princess in the credits) For a taste of a wonderful tale these movies will do good for fans young and old. I only wish that they could be made again into feature length films such as Tolkien's movies are...with all the new computer effects available I'm sure it would do these stories an even greater service. If you can get these movies by all means do! You will not regret it. True fans of the series will definitely appreciate this movie as well as the other 2. Do yourself a favour and add them to your collection. *G*

4 out of 5 stars Samuel West, a bright and shining Prince.......2000-01-24

I loved this version of the Narnia adventures. Samuel West, the young British actor of Howards End and Carrington, was particularly wonderful as the grown-up Prince Caspian. I docked one star off the rating for poor editing, but the movie was enjoyable and magical for both myself and my 11 year old niece. niece.

5 out of 5 stars Great! But have you learned the "hidden story" yet?.......1998-12-29

I loved the movie. I enjoyed it.Why,even adults can enjoy it,but you have to REALLY watch and think.Who is Aslan? Can you find the "hidden story"? I've learned Aslan is in this world!

4 out of 5 stars A lovely and faithfull adaptation of a great classic.......1998-12-16

This is an excellent translation to video of two of the Narnia books. The fact that it does, in fact, combine two books may confuse some viewers - I would have preferred to have seen two separate videos, however, given limits of budget this is a reasonable condensation. The effects, although not lavish, are lovely and the acting quite admirable. (The part of Eustace is particularly well played.)
