Great Album.......2005-03-02
I've not had the chance yet to hear the revised CD version of Logan's Run.
Years ago when this movie first came out,
everywhere you went this music was played.
My favorite is the main them..its very futuristic yet a chilling song at the same time.
Another masterwork.......2005-01-07
Jerry Goldsmith created soundscapes that sometimes surpassed the films they were written for in evoking emotions and revealing character. For Logan's Run, Goldsmith came up with one of his most brilliant creations. It opens with stark, electronic sounds, effectively mirroring the cold future society depicted in the film. Only when Logan breaks out of the domed city and into the natural world does Goldsmith allow the full orchestra to come in, warming up the music just as Logan's worldview expands. This release finally captures the full range and power of the score in pristine sound. And, heck, I even like the Love Theme tacked on at the end...

Byew! Byew! Byew!.......2005-01-14
In the seventies, we were treated to many short-lived and little remembered science fiction television shows, some of them based on popular films. Logan's Run the tv show lasted for just a handful of episodes and is now virtually forgotten. So who on earth would want to release (let alone listen to) the soundtrack music of this show? Well, the good people at Film Score Monthly have dug up the masters and released this astonishingly entertaining cd. Really a seperate beast altogether from Jerry Goldsmith's classic score to the film, the music presented here is varied, textured and just plain terrific. The siren-like tones of the opening theme had -- unknown to me until I reheard them here -- burned themselves into my brain as a young lad, and listening to it again brought the memories of being a kid in the seventies flooding back. But after that little bit of nostalgia, the disc really takes off, with wonderful orchestral contributions from Laurence Rosenthal, Bruce Broughton, Jerome Immel and Jeff Alexander. Unlike today's overly bland tv underscoring, the music on this disc is delightfully tuneful, original and an absolute pleasure to hear. The action music, suspense cues and even touches of romance all work like gangbusters, and the whole thing has been well-sequenced to make a superb listening experience. If you have fond memories of seventies science fiction music, then don't hesitate to pick up this disc.

Veteran composer Jerry Goldsmith has enjoyed a long and storied career in Hollywood, doing standout work in both films and television, and achieving success in a broad range of genres in both. But Goldsmith seems to have an unusual affinity for sci-fi (as witnessed by his inventive scores for Planet of the Apes, Alien, and several installments of the Star Trek franchise), a realm that allows him to exercise his modernist leanings and his considerable skills as an arranger. Logan's Run combines healthy dollops of futuristic synth textures with Goldsmith's haunting orchestral arrangements and gentle melodic sense, evoking a future world that's ominous yet filled with familiar humanity. For his work on writer-director Michael Crichton's Coma, Goldsmith ratchets up his modernism into dramatic overdrive, producing cues of relentless drive and tension--and strangely embroidered with a few passages of late 1970s disco wallpaper. A welcome reissue marred only by its packaging shortcomings. --Jerry McCulley
Customer Reviews:
Has relevance only for Goldsmith's fans.......2002-04-07
While Goldsmith's contributions to "Planet of the Apes," "Patton," "The Omen," episodes of "The Twilight Zone," and the most recent "The Mummy" will stand the test of times as major scores, the compositions for "Logan's Run" and "Coma" are suited solely for the 70's from which they came.
Sounding as dated as a pair of polyester suits and wide-legged bellbottoms, the scores can't stand apart from the films from whence they came. The mark of a good score is its quality to be enjoyable separate from the film. These just don't hold up.
As a fan of the composer, I purchased this disc for that reason only. It is for that reason that it can only be recommended for those that are followers of the film-scoring maestro.
I feel I am there.......2000-10-15
Goldsmith is a space music composer. But not type-cast. His Patton score really gets you up and running. Logan`s Run and Coma (I think both have never been issued on CD). I liked the Logan`s Run love theme the best when it first came out somewhere in 1978 on LP. It takes off just like the main title of The Blue Max (another Goldsmith gem). Both scores are noteworthy on screen but somehow doesn`t stand very well alone. The Coma love theme is just as sweet.
Logan's Run Run's Again!.......2000-07-25
The CD Soundtrack for Logan's Run is back in all of it's wonderful glory! Jerry Goldsmith's fantastic futuristic score of the 23rd Century still plays wonderfully well today as it did when it first premiered back in 1976! The electronic MOOG sounds successfully create a certain eerieness to this futuristic, cautionary future world where no one can live past 30. As an added bonus, we also get to hear Jerry's equally superb score from the medical thriller "Coma".
All in all, a great soundtrack package from Chapter III records!
