Forever Knight: Original Television Soundtrack [Soundtrack]
Editorial Reviews

In scoring this cult TV hit, Fred Mollin exhibits a flair for the bombastic and the subdued. The two extremes often battle for dominance within his synthesized orchestrations--one minute, tempestuous strings and brass surge and monstrous percussion pounds ferociously only to give way to a delicate piano or harp melody. It's an appropriate sonic clash for a series about a blood-sucking detective with a soft spot for humanity. Within this intense maelstrom of sound, however, Mollin finds order and balance with a consistent ebb and flow in drama and dynamics. In spite of its obvious synthetic qualities, Forever Knight is a dramatic illustration of the potency of electronic scores in the TV realm. Toronto torch singers Lori Yates and Molly Johnson also appear. --Bryan Reesman

The Background Music to a Cult Classic.......2007-02-20
This DVD, the first of two releases of soundtrack music from the TV series "Forever Knight", will be a delight to fans of that series and perhaps to others looking for an unusual collection.
Composer and performer Fred Molle captured the haunting qualities of "Forever Knight" in his eclectic mixture of subtle classical music mixed with jazz and even traditional Celtic strains, punctuated by heavy overtone effects that remind the listener of the danger inherent in the plots of the show. Lori Yates provides the soulful vocals for a number of songs captured from various episodes. Nigel Bennett, who played the vampire LaCroix, contributes a selection of voice-overs from his radio talks in the series. Geraint Wyn-Davies, who played Detective Nick Knight and who was sometimes seen at the keyboard during the show, plays his own piano theme.
This collection is highly recommended to fans of the gone but not forgotten "Forever Knight."
Welcome to The Raven, have a drink!.......2006-10-23
Since that moment when, one night several years ago I discovered a TV series on vampires and I watched the interaction between some of the best characters that I've ever seen on TV: Nick, Lacroix, Janette, Natalie, Schanke, while playing on the background or listening to the Main Theme Title, I could listen to the music of the great composer Fred Mollin, I was immediatly captured and I became a fan of Forever Knight.
This is a very special volume with jewels like "Nick's Piano Theme" performed by Geraint Wyn Davies himself, or another one: for those lovers of the Celtic culture the suite from the "Queen of Harps".
It's a real delight to the senses to listen to the performance of Lori Yates on those, now classic themes like: "The Hunger", "Black Rose" & "Touch the Night". While interspersed amongst the tracks one can listen to the magnetic, captivating voice of our favorite "uncle" Lacroix (Nigel Bennet).
Forever Knight , The Original Television Soundtrack is a must buy to fans of this series, and if you are a newcomer, rest assured that this is an excellent CD. (There's a second volume too) 22 tracks, a booklet with color pictures of cast and composer
Enjoy the Darkness ..........2004-02-04
Fred Mollin's first volume of scores and songs from the cult hit TV series FOREVER KNIGHT is terrific. Mollin's score is fast-paced, and occasionally dramatic, not to mention mystical; there is also a bunch of excellent songs sung by Lori Yates (featured on the TV show playing in the Raven bar). Of course, there's also the dark and always great "Forever Knight Theme"; fans of the show will be even more pleased with dialogue thrown in from the show. FOREVER KNIGHT star Geraint Wyn Davies also contributes "Nick's Piano Theme". Enjoy the Darkness.
Atmospheric soundtracks AND the best vampire pop of the 80s.......2003-06-21
I'm delighted to see these 2 discs here, because I think Fred Mollin's stylish and versatile work for "Forever Knight" has been criminally overlooked, and deserves a much wider audience. Here you get the best of it: not only his dramatic, atmospheric orchestral suites for some of the best episodes in the series, but also four gorgeous, dark-romantic pop songs that could have been massive hits for someone (Bonnie Tyler, say, or Heart...) had fate been kinder. (Several were featured in the episode "Dying for Fame" as the work of fictional rock star Rebecca, and they continued to be heard on the sound system at the Raven nightclub for the rest of the series' run.) Hauntingly sung by Lori Yates, these vampire-themed beauties--"The Hunger", "Black Rose", "Touch the Night" and especially "Dark Side of the Glass"--just cry out to be rediscovered by Goth bands, updated to the 00's and raised to long-overdue stardom. (--Yes, Radu, I'm talking to you! I *know* you read everything I write! =)
But even if you aren't a vampire, I recommend these to you as long as you like romance and drama in a soundtrack, or enjoy well-crafted pop songs with a shadowy twist. Mollin's work will well reward your attention.
Forever Knight soundtrack rocks!.......2003-02-01
With the wonderful theme, the songs by Lori Yates and the wonderful score by Fred Mollin makes this soundtrack a must have for not only for the Forever Knight fans, but for music fans in general.Great soundtrack. ...

Composer Fred Mollin is certainly prolific, but as this second installment of music from the vampire serial Forever Knight proves, he does not merely recycle his own ideas. Granted, there are familiar Knight motifs here, such as when a harp melody gets trampled by massive tom-toms in "Faithful Followers," but Mollin provides new variations as well, including the tribal drumming on "Suite from Blackwing" and the enhanced use of angelic choir on certain tracks. Furthermore, this recording is more restrained than its predecessor, making it a nice companion piece to the original. Toronto torch singers Lori Yates and Molly Johnson make welcome return appearances. Fans of the series will be pleased with volume 2, especially its emotional finale, "Last Knight." --Bryan Reesman

More Music from a Cult Favorite.......2007-03-27
"More Music From Forever Knight" features a selection of music themes from the second and third seasons of the cult favorite TV show, much missed by its fans. As with the first soundtrack album, Fred Mollin composed and performed the music, backed on this album by vocals by Lori Yates and Molly Johnson. This album also features short takes from actors Nigel Bennett, John Kapelos, and Geraint Wyn Davies.
The soundtracks and songs capture beautifully the haunting yet hopeful storylines of the series, about a vampire seeking redemption through service as a night shift homicide detective in Toronto, Canada. Each episode revolved around tough moral choices, and this album is especially poignant as season three turned out to be the end of the series.
This soundtrack album is highly recommended to fans of "Forever Knight."
Like darkness to a vampire.......2004-02-20
Fans screamed to GNP Crescendo for a second FOREVER KNIGHT soundtrack album, to further capture the music that made the show come alive. Now we have Fred Mollin's "More Music from FOREVER KNIGHT", like darkness to a vampire - or comfort to the dedicated FK fan. We have more of the haunting, dark suites and fast-paced scores from the cult hit episodes; also, we have more of Lori Yates' extraodinary songs. More dialogue, more scores, more songs, more darkness - the second volume of FOREVER KNIGHT music will have fans flying in to the night.
Excellent music from an excellent show.......2003-01-18
One of the best soundtracks I've bought in along time, the songs and the score is so awesome. If your a Forever Knight fan,get this soundtrack, also get the first one.
"He was brought across in 1228....".......2002-03-08
"Forever Knight" was a fabulous(ly cheesy) Canadian sci-fi series that was filmed and set in Toronto. It lasted for three seasons and revolved around the unlife of Toronto homicide detective Nick Knight, a 700-year old vampire who longed to be mortal and redeem himself from centuries of killing and blood.
Much of the soundtrack's score is devoted to the flashback scenes from centuries past, of the bloodlust that consumes Nick, his master LaCroix, and his lover/vampire sibling Janette, so it is appropriately dark and moody, with heavy percussion, ominous strings and sudden crashes.
This album features some new elements from the previous "Forever Knight" soundtrack, most notably the tribal drumming on "Suite from Blackwing" and more of a choir effect. There are also clips by Nick Knight's partner-in-uncrime Donald Schanke (John Kapelos)--(the first album featured readings by Nick's vampire master Lucien LaCroix), including a humorous answering machine message and reflections on Nick's strangeness. There are two encore readings and musings by LaCroix (Nigel Bennett) as well as a couple of clips by the elusive Nick Knight (Geraint Wyn Davies) himself.
The music is 100% synth(etic), which may be a turnoff for some but Fred Mollin's music sets the stage perfectly for midnight prowls through Toronto's seedier, darker side. The songs with vocals by Torontonian Lori Yates (originally a country singer) are my favourite parts of the soundtrack. There are four songs from the third and final season: "The Night Calls My Name," "Heart of Darkness," "Destiny's Edge" and "Break the Silence" (performed by Molly Johnson). These songs are dark and brooding, played in LaCroix's vampire/Goth club "The Raven" (the actual building was the Fluid Lounge at 217 Richmond W).
"Forever Knight" was a fun romp through the (very familiar) streets of Toronto that dealt with some of our big-city issues: politics, crime, and the homeless for example, combining them with parallel stories from Nick's vampiric past. This is a must-have companion for fans of "Forever Knight," along with the other soundtrack CD "Forever Knight." There were also three FK novels published: "These Our Revels" by Anne Hathaway-Nayne, where Nick performs in Shakespeare's company, "Intimations of Mortality" by Susan M. Garrett, and "A Stirring of Dust" by Susan Sizemore. Pick them up if you can find them: they are out-of-print and hard to locate. Although the show is no longer on the air, the vampiric legacy of Nick Knight lives on through the music of Fred Mollin. Ten stars and lots of happy memories!
Excellent CD !.......2000-06-02
I loved this CD , especially the Lori Yates vocals. I got both this, and the first album of music from FK. If you really are a fan, you cannot do without BOTH of these CD's. They are absolutely worth the price.
