Sheer magic that will transport you to Europe!.......2006-06-30
Kiki's Delivery Service, a charming tale of a young witch-in-training who discovers her magical powers and finds her place, was my first introduction to anime back in 1998. Directed by legendary anime pioneer Hayao Miyazaki, the film's atmosphere was set in a European-influenced imaginary city that blended various European architectures, cuisines, fashion, and music.
Not surprisingly, the film's score by frequent Miyazaki collaborator Joe Hisaishi relies heavily on Parisian accordion, lilting waltzes, and playful piano solos that make up the majority of the film's soundtrack (the American Disney dub of Kiki replaced much of the film's original score). For the most part, the soundtrack is wonderfully relaxing. There are also two vocals featured at the end: Message in Rouge (Ruuju no dengon), used in the film's opening credits, and If Enveloped in Tenderness (Yasashisa ni tsutsumareta nara) by Arai Yumi. Of the two, I prefer Message in Rouge for its unusual doo-wop stylings (complete with doo wop chorus in Japanese!).
Overall, this is a lovely album well worth the import price, perfect for relaxing to.
(A word of warning about Japanese anime releases from Studio Ghibli: make sure that you purchase the actual *soundtrack*. Ghibli releases several soundtracks for each film, including image albums (songs inspired by / set to the film's storyboards before film was completed), drama albums (contains all dialogue and music, like a radio drama), hi-tech (score performed on synthesizers), symphonic albums (performed by a full symphony), and vocal albums.)
This is The Best CD Ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.......2003-08-24
I wanted this cd right after I saw the movie...One word..it was great! Fantastic!!! Amazingly my friend had bought me the cd for a present. I was relieved and felt exhilarated. I couldn't wait to hear the songs in it.... then it came.. the music..the melody was easy to follow and it felt as if I was the main character in the movie; flying :)!!My family loved every song in it!!!

I'm Gonna Fly - English Version.......2001-09-26
This CD is great! Flows very nicely, however, the *English* opening and closing songs (made for Disney's dubbed version) by Sidney Forest aren't on it....
Music For The Heart.......2001-09-23
Sweet, playful, for the most part peaceful. A great soundtrack for the serene and beautiful movie, Kiki's Delivery Service. And if the music or cover art looks familiar, it's the combined work of Hisaishi's music and Miyazaki's artwork (Princess Mononoke, My Neighbor Totoro) I highly recommend this with any of Joe Hisaishi's other soundtracks!
