4 out of 5 stars Great for the Halloween night!!!.......2007-01-12

Great music, exclusively music from the movies. I used it to scare off the kids at night when treak-or-treatin. Only the classics included!!!

3 out of 5 stars Average collection of cover tunes........2005-10-13

I've had reasonable luck with Laserlight's Halloween CDs, introducing me to such artist as Screaming Lord Sutch, the Undertakers, and a couple of other minor groups popular for Halloween-themed music.
By comparisson, this CD is a relative disappointment, featuring covers of spooky movie and TV themes.
Friday the 13th gets butchered the worst, with Exorcist following close behind, primarily by being about a minute to long, and the Twilight Zone is way too funky.
Halloween and Nightmare on Elm Street fare the best, followed by Jaws and X-files. The rest are tributes to mediocrity.
For Wal-Mart's price of under four dollars, it's a decent deal, but I certainly couldn't recommend spending any more than that for it.

3 out of 5 stars Not bad for the price.......2005-02-16

It's a mediocre collection of horror movie music. Not bad for the price, but it sounds a bit too synthesizery.

1 out of 5 stars Blah!.......2003-08-11

Some of them sound like the original recording.

Others sound like MIDI tracks burned to CD. With such a good lineup of movies (sans X-Files), I was thoroughly disappointed at how "synthy" it sounds.

To get this CD all you have to do is use your favorite search engine and type "midi and horror".

I want my $$ back.

3 out of 5 stars Horror muzak for parties........2002-11-08

If you are looking for a solid collection of classic horror themes recreated as heard in the movies, then you had better look elsewhere. This collection is not for you. Various musicians either play respectable covers of classic themes (i.e. The Exorcist or Halloween) or completely slaughter them with poppy covers. Harry Manfredini's already silly disco-pop theme to Friday the 13th Part 3 is destroyed so badly you would think that Jason Voorhees himself had stomped into the recording studio. Fans of pure, play it like it sounded in the movie recordings will be disappointed.

I liked this CD very much.If you are into horror movies like Halloween and Friday the 13th you will like this CD.However in my opinion the only good music on this CD is the Friday the 13th theme by Harry Manfredini.I am not really a fan of pchyco or pinhead. If you are into to those horror characters then I reccomend this CD.

5 out of 5 stars Not the real themes, BUT..........2006-01-27

... not a bad CD. one reviewer mentioned to "avoid Heavy halloween" which is funny because I bought both CDs for 2 bucks at a Dollar Tree Halloween 2004. Anyway, it isn't that bad, Psycho sounds pretty cool. Worth the buy if you get it at the price I did.

2 out of 5 stars Caveat Emptor.......2004-09-24

Let the buyer beware. If you are looking for quality recordings of your favorite horror movies themes, keep looking. Although the original artist are given credit for the music on the back cover, the actual recordings are from some hack in a garage with a synthesiser. This collection is in no way acurate to the original movie themes. In other words, this cd sucks.

One good use might be at a public hautned house or trails and played at high volume. It would probably keep away any unwanted animals and insects. Come to think of it, the cd would probably keep away the customers. Ok, so there is no good use.

1 out of 5 stars DONT WASTE YOUR $$$.......2003-09-30

Terrible covers of movie themes done in someones basement. ALSO,be warned of HEAVY HALLOWEEN by the same company. Great song list of metal songs! What you get is sorry covers by some vocalists who need to be shot! Dont order anything from Drews Party Music even if it is cheap!!!!

2 out of 5 stars Not original, don't want it.......2001-10-21

Like a few of the other comments, I was looking for the original theme music. This one is not. A previous comment mentioned "The History of Horror". That is what you're looking for. I just purchased it. Thanks for the tip.

2 out of 5 stars very dissappointing.......2000-09-26

I bought this cd last year with high expectations, only to be completely let down. Be warned, these are not the true original recordings, they sound as if they were recorded from a cheap toy piano. As was stated in previous reviews, I bought this collection of songs for holloween mood music, as well as for my personal collection, as I am a big horror fan. To use this as music for halloween would be a joke. On the other hand, if you are looking for true horror movie music I would highly reccomend the cd by the name of the history of horror. That by far has been the best collection of horror music, and does not even compare to this....

4 out of 5 stars Unforgettable sounds of Horror.......2005-07-13

Growing up and watching the great Universal horror movies on late night TV, I as most kids did, became infatuated with the classic movie monsters of the 30's and 40's. Now, here in one collection are most of the opening soundtracks from these legendary horror films. The creepy swan lake suite from Dracula to the thunderous music of impending doom that started most of the Frankenstein movies. And, who could forget that classic score from The Wolfman with Lon Chaney. Most tracks are lifted directly off the movie soundtracks, so slight background sounds can be heard, but that just adds to the enjoyment. The opening to Dracula, is NOT the original from the movie, it seems the first few bars have been edited and a different version added in. All in all, this is a MUST for classic horror fans. Try puttting on this disc, and guessing what movie each track is from, it will bring back haunting memories of stormy dark nights where the monsters truly roamed our imagination...

4 out of 5 stars This CD delivers the shivers.......1999-04-14

Nothing underscores the tempo and mood of a movie like good soundtrack music. In this CD, the listener is treated to a wonderful mix of genre music from Science Fiction and Horror films. Orchestra conductor Dick James makes the most out of instrument placement, musical arrangement and stereo separation.

If there is a downside, it can only be the absence of a theremin in "This Island Earth" and "It Came From Outer Space." Jacob opts for a jazz organ as an adequate substitute.

The only other problem is the occasional squeaky chair noises the musicians make. But this tends to give the music a "live" sound rather than studio perfection.

All in all, this is a wonderful collection that would accompany late night science fiction or horror reading perfectly.

5 out of 5 stars Curse of the Werewolf...Witchfinder General...Silva Shines!.......2002-01-10

Dracula(Christopher Lee) was possibly the best film on Bram Stoker's blood-sucking icon(since Bela Lugosi in 1931)...this first Hammer Dracula film captured the ruthless tone of the title character in undead "Living Color", not to mention Professor Van Helsing(Peter Cushing) who was always around with garlic, wooden-steak and religious cross in hand...but folks, none of this would grab you, but for the horror chilling and macabre score by James Bernard...composed music for "THE HORROR OF DRACULA(1958)..."DRACULA HAS RISEN FROM THE GRAVE"(1968)..."TASTE THE BLOOD OF DRACULA"(1970), creepy with blends of gore, that will raise the hair on the back of your neck...if that's the case, composer James Bernard has driven his point home.

Let's look at some hard-to-find scores that appear on this compilation ~ "THE CURSE OF THE WEREWOLF"(1960), features one of my favorite actors Oliver Reed, as a 19th Century man who realizes you need to check out your family-tree quick, before something happens that may leave a lasting impression, composer Benjamin Frankel paints a portrait of the beast that will soon appear---"WITCHFINDER GENERAL"(1968), can anyone master the evil that Vincent Price portrays, our composer Paul Ferris sets the tone with his score "Prelude/Romanza", the over six minute wonderful sampling will have you begging for more...the remaining scores on this compilation is top-notch and very collectible...a must have for all film score collectors who like to be scared to death.

Silva Treasury presents Movie Themes better than any label around today...James Fitzpatrick(album producer)...Reynold da Silva(executive producer)...along with The City Of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra(Nic Raine-conductor)...The Westminster Philharmonic Orchestra(Kenneth Alwyn-conductor)...The Philharmonia Orchestra(Neil Richardson-conductor)...recorded in DOLBY SURROUND, is a "film-score-buffs" collecting dream...but remember, when listening to this CD, do not...DO NOT TURN OUT THE LIGHTS!

4 out of 5 stars A good budget horror collection.......1999-10-18

As a budget horror collection I was pleased. I purchased Themes of Horror I and II and both were good. The only complaints I had were that I didn't think the Exorcist theme (Tubular Bells) was the best version I have heard. I don't know, I just didn't like some of the percussion or something. Also I was pretty surprised to listen to the Halloween theme. It started out with an instrumental version of Mr. Sandman, which was alright, just rather unexpected. Then it kicked into the regular Halloween theme which like Tubular Bells was not the greatest version. I already had Tubular Bells on the Pure Moods CD, and the Halloween theme from Halloween: the Best of John Carpenter, so I wasn't as dissappointed with the different versions as I might have otherwise been. As a whole though both CDs make for some good Horror background music, collecting a lot of music it may otherwise be hard to find, and do it at a good price.
