Editorial Reviews
Amazon.com
This Western has become a modest cult favorite since its release in 1993, when the film was met with mixed reviews but the performances of Kurt Russell (as Wyatt Earp) and especially Val Kilmer, for his memorably eccentric performance as the dying gunslinger Doc Holliday, garnered high praise. The movie opens with Wyatt Earp trying to put his violent past behind him, living happily in Tombstone with his brothers and the woman (Dana Delany) who puts his soul at ease. But a murderous gang called the Cowboys has burst on the scene, and Earp can't keep his gun belt off any longer. The plot sounds routine, and in many ways it is, but Western buffs won't mind a bit thanks to a fine cast and some well-handled action on the part of Rambo director George P. Cosmatos, who has yet to make a better film than this. --Jeff Shannon

    Album Description

Maine native Dick Curless had long recorded for regional labels when songwriter Dan Fulkerson approached him with "A Tombstone Every Mile," the tale of a real-life stretch of Maine highway often lethal to truckers. Released nationally in 1965, the song became a #5 single for Curless and this, his first album for Tower Records, soon reached the Top Twenty on Billboard's country album charts.

    Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Signature truckin' tune and country-folk.......2004-12-01

The baritone-voiced, Maine-bred Curless had a broader range than his trucking themed hits might suggest. Though he could sing country inflected folk songs (similar, in many ways, to the early works of Waylon Jennings), he could also sing Western favorites, and croon straight-ahead pop songs. His signature, though, was this album's title cut, a harrowing tale of an icy Maine road - one of the genre's best.

Additional trucking hits would turn up on later albums, but this time out Curless turned to classics with a superb, funereal-paced "Streets of Laredo," a wonderfully laid-back cover of Roger Miller's "King of the Road," and a lightly Westernized cover of The Sons of the Pioneers' (by way of Jim Reeves') "Teardrops in My Heart." Some of the album's best tracks are its least produced, such as the acoustic guitar led bluegrass standard, "The Sunny Side of the Mountain" and Curless' superb waltz-time "Down by the Old River." Curless' dramatic baritone is also a fine match for the drama of Merle Travis' "Nine Pound Hammer" and the comedy of Wynn Stewart's "Uncle Tom."

Those who only know Curless from his trucking hits will enjoy this broader look at his folk-country and pop crooning.

    4 out of 5 stars A 'Sixties country classic.......2004-09-22

A regional success up in New England, Maine's country croaker Dick Curless hit the Top 5 back in '65 with "Tombstone Every Mile," a classic tune that remains one of the best trucker songs ever recorded. Whether he really had what it takes to sustain a national career after that is debatable... As this album shows, he certainly had his limitations as a singer, and yet he also had a certain gravitas that could pull you in. On the sparser, more folk-oriented songs, he often ran out of juice, but with a good, solid, thumping backup behind him, he sounded pretty darn good. This disc is certainly worth checking out... and Curless's fans will be quite pleased to see this back in print as a reissue. (It's certainly easier to pick up than Bear Family's mega-box set, which has all the same material... and several CDs more! This one disc might be enough to get your feet wet...)

5 out of 5 stars Gary Myrick continues to "rock the house".......1999-03-28

I, too, am an avid Gary Myrick fan of the early '80's and beyond. I was presented with the chance to see him at an intimate club in Dallas several years ago called the "Redux". It was a show I still remember to this day,(and still have the ticket stub). This new CD just proves that what was great then, is still great today!

      5 out of 5 stars Myrick's trio, pumps out country/rock/blues RoadHouse Style!.......1998-06-13

I've followed Gary Myrick's career begining in 1980 with "She Talks in Stereo" an Early 80's standard. Next came "Living in a Movie", then the Hits "Guitar,Talk,Love, and Drums", "The Message is You" and "Time to Win" off Myrick's 1983 EP "Language". Gary was at the top of his game, with Explosive live shows and a loyal following. He slowed down while working with John Waite collaborating on the "Missing You" single and album. Myrick returned with 1986's "I Stand for Love" featuring the Hits "This Record is Broken",the Haunting "I was a Painted Picture" and MTV favorite "When Angels Kiss". It was Myrick at his best and still very little radio air play to support his music Gary went back to Austin, TX to recharge. During this time he hooked up with Paul Siminon of the "Clash", together they put together" Havana 3AM". With moderate Air Play of the single "Reach the Rock" became a collage radio favorite! They disbanded and Myrick put togrther "Texas Glitter & Tombstone Tales". His 3 piece outfit pump out some the best rock/country/blues tunes I've heard in years! Give it a spin, It's awsome amigo!

4 out of 5 stars eleven tracks that are sure to wake (and rock) the dead.......2007-02-15

        The Good
"Robert Johnson's Tombstone" is an ode to the ax slinger himself. It has a great, strict blues intro that bleeds into the bluesy hard rock that Thunder is known for. "Dirty Dream" is a riff oriented track that peaks during the hook-laden chorus. Vocalist Danny Bowes soulful tones ring out load and clear on "Don't Want to Talk About Love." An AC/DC inspired riff dominates "The Devil Made Me Do It," as Bowes explores his teenage curiosity. Heartache is the focal point that the somber track "My Darkest Hour" revolves around. The soft strings help add to the emotional level. "It's All About You" follows the same path as the previous ballad, except this time instead of having his heart broken, Bowers expresses his distain for his woman's ignorance.

        The Bad
        Nothing notable

        The Verdict
Robert Johnson would be glad to know that his style and influence are alive and well. Thunder pump up the distortion and melody of that sound to create eleven tracks that are sure to wake (and rock) the dead.

4 out of 5 stars A must for Melodic Rock Fans.......2006-12-09

This is Thunder's 8th studio Album, confirming their idea of standing firm on their traditional ground. A formula that holds fast, keeping fans happy and still close to the band.
Here we have 11 tracks based on traditional Thunder guitar style together with a strong blue's edge.
Danny Bowes' voice is simply wonderful confirming the maturity shown in the last few years.
This might not be the best Thunder album. Obviously, a little far from Laughing On Judgement Day and Behind Closed Doors; but still it shows that the band is one of the most consistent at present. Not to forget the fact that during the last 9 years, between studios, lives and compilations, Thunder released 15 albums!
It's a pity that the album title is inappropriate and front cover is really ridiculous. Neither reflects the high musical quality contained in this album. A must for Thunder and Melodic Rock Fans.

This was a very good CD. The only problem, is that about 10 songs from the movie are missing from the CD. and a few songs had the singer changed from the movie version, and it sounds trerible

5 out of 5 stars Marc Shaiman's work is excellent as always.......2000-11-23

The score of Addams Family Values (in fact a really good movie) is just super! If you like the film you will love the music! Mr. Shaiman used his themes from the first movie and of course the famous TV theme and completed it with new melodies, for example Pubert's theme, Debbie's theme (you hear a fantastic variation of it on "The Honeymoon Is Over" and at the end of "Escape from Debbie) and the Chippewa melodies. Unfortunately there are some missings for a die-hard-fan like me: "Wednesday's Revolt" (an ultimate highlight in movie and on cd) misses the end melodies played by violins. In the film you hear it after the TV theme (when Wednesday shocks Amanda whith making fire). But therefor we can listen to a melodic introduction on the very same sample unheard in the movie. I also miss the music which is played when Pugsley and Wednesday have to sit in the harmony hut and then try to escape. There are a few other nice variations of the music heard in the movie which did not make it on the CD. However it is real good stuff you get. The best of all, of course, is "The Tango"; really exciting!! I also love "The Big Scene" - it is something like a Finale in which the most melodies and themes come together... There is a CD of the first Addams-Family-Movie Soundtrack. If you have it, this one will complete Mr. Shaiman's fantastic work. If you don't have it, buy this one and you will love it even more.

5 out of 5 stars If you liked the movie, you'll love the soundtrack........1998-12-18

Hey Addams Fans! I would totally reccomend this cd. Listening to the music without watching the movie is really different. True most of it IS instrumental, but its really cool and fun to listen to. I haven't been able find the original Addams Family movie soundtrack and I'm not sure if there is one...so this is as close as you get!!! Not only do you get the catchy (I mean ADDIVTIVE) instrumental music, but the "Eat me" song. What more could you ask?
