Drum it home.......2006-11-26

This cd is a fine compilation of cop music recorded in the 60s and 70s by Englishman Johnny Gregory. It certainly is a full course that I've been unable to digest in one sitting- maybe you'll have better luck. Johnny pushes the limits on some of these tracks, but overall a well done effort with tracks like "Mission Impossible", and "Hawaii 5-O". I've heard it said that many of these tracks are better than the original, so I highly doubt anybody looking for cop music will be disappointed. I've always been partial to "Hawaii 5-O", so for me this cd was worth the price just for that. Henry Mancini's version of Hawaii 5-O is very tight and boring compared to Johnny's creative whiz-bang use of drums.
For the time being you're out of luck if you want more Johnny Gregory cd recordings. In the 1960s and 1970s Johnny also recorded under the name "Cascading Strings", and "Chaquito"-(Tijauna style), but nothing to my knowledge has been reissued to cd except for one 2005 "Cascading Strings" cd released in Britain which I think is already unavailable unless you can get a used one. Hopefully there is more to come because Johnny Gregory did some excellent takes depending on your taste.

One of my favorite TV theme compilations of all time..and just about the only place you can find good versions of IT TAKES A THIEF and THE NAME OF THE GAME. Gregory's version of CANNON is pretty darn good, too.

Knockout Jazz-Funk!.......2002-11-04

A great album of themes....most of them true to the originals. Gregory conducts a big band that infuses the jazziness of the originals with a strong funk-rock feel. Great themes,great arrangements and superb playing by the top session men in the UK
(the drummer was Ronnie Verrell,ex Ted Heath Orchestra and ex Jack Parnell Orchestra...a real star in the recording).

I don't think you'll be disappointed of you get this CD!

Not only will the music bring back fond memories, but the band will knock you out! And the drummer is just unbelievable!!! Been a music lover and player for 34 years, so not easily impressed but that drummer...Only for the connaisseur and nostalgic:)
