Excellent music & musiciansI Salonisti Play Music From Titanic, Casablanca, The Godfather, Schindler's List, Sense And Sensibility And More
Music to my ears ..........2007-03-12
This is one of the greatest instrumental talents I've heard in years. This cd has some of my all-time favorite movie tunes including 'Moon River', 'Somewhere Over the Rainbow', and a very beautiful version of 'My Heart Will Go On'. This is the actual band that played in the 1997 movie Titanic and I'm truly thankful that they made this recording for everyone to enjoy. I'll cherish it for years to come. Thank you!
Familiar music with good performance.......1999-10-03
This CD contains many familiar music from films and the performance of the musicians is very good particularly track 16. I also find the music very relax and enjoyable and can bring the memory of those films if one has ever seen them.

The best songs.......2006-03-01
You get all the background music in the movie. You can focus mote on the music rather then the action.
Feel the movie in music.......2005-10-09
This soundtrack is so far one of my favorite, listening it all the time. It still bring me as much emotion as the Movie. A great success in the selection of the musics illustrating the story...
Magical!.......2005-10-05
Ever since the day I downloaded the piece "Morgan-Amor Tristis" I knew I would love whatever CD came with it. I was 100% correct. This album contains songs that are so breathtakingly gorgeous I had to stop whatever I was doing just to listen to them.
Of course, as I mentioned earlier, "Morgan-Amor Tristis" Is the jewel of this CD, but I found the choral pieces to be equaly beautiful. "Dea Cantat- The Goddess Sings" is the second piece song as a solo with no instrumentation. The vocalist carries the song beautifuly and creates a simplistic joy.
Towards the end, the song "Cora de Dea- Voices of Goddess" (an instrumental and full choral version of "Dea Cantat") gives us a fitting finale.
I also enjoyed the songs "Celestin- Seditianis Auctor" and "Crystallus Malus- Dark Shrine" for their sense of hidden darkness and despare.
ANd finally the song "Spring Unchanged" brought with it the perfect sense of the season and all the characters.
This was my first order with Amazon and so I didn't know when to expect the Cd. To my delight, it arrived in less than four days! Thank you sooooo much!
This is a great CD. For all manga and anime lovers, this is a must have!
A worthy soundtrack to the movie.......2005-05-15
I bought this soundtrack CD right after I watched the movie on DVD. I enjoy the soundtrack as much as the movie. The orchestral pieces are particularly memorable. I had it literally playing for days as background music on my computer. It is still one of the few soundtrack CDs that I play regularly.
For your information.......2005-01-21
For your information, Nobuo Uematsu, the pioneer in gaming music of Final Fantasy, was involved in AMG movie soundtrack. So you can expect the best of the best and this is really an album of masterpiece with emotions.

Good stuff - but could have been better........2002-07-01
The music to Angel Heart was a key asset to the film -- departing from the book on which it was based, the film takes the viewer to New Orleans midway through, and this provides a valuable texture to the story.
The music on this album is good, and it is probably worth a purchase - but I have to mark it down because of the glaring ommision of two of the best pieces of music from the film.
First, the signature "Soul on Fire" by LaVern Baker, which is simply the most memorable song in the entire film. Haunting, longing, beautiful on its own -- the song takes on a new character in the context of the film. Fortunately, you can pick this song up on any LaVern Baker compilation.
Sadly, the other great song left off here is a funky little Cajun/Voodoo number by Dr. John, listed as Zuzu Man in the movie credits, but I have been unable to get my hands on the song anywhere. He seems to have multiple versions of the song, and the version from the film is elusive.
The absence of these two songs, along with a bit too much of the films dialogue, overshadow what is otherwise a memorable soundtrack. Probably only for the rabid fans of the film.
What's that tune you're singing?.......2000-12-22
One would probably not be able to fully appreciate the Angel Heart soundtrack without seeing the movie, but hearing it afore will probably serve as an additional incentive to see the film. Director Alan Parker is known for his imaginative and inventive use of music in his films. As far as I'm concerned, Angel Heart is one of the finest examples of the use of music in films. The main character of the film, private detective Harry Angel is hired to find '30s crooner Johnny Favorite, his own alter-ego - something he gradually discovers, to his own horror. Says Parker: "In the script I had made Johnny Favorite's 30's hit pivotal to our story and I wanted it to haunt the movie as it had haunted Harry. From a mountain of 78's I chose "Girl of my Dreams" which was nostalgically familiar but not too connected with any one artist. Trevor Horn [composer, arranger and conductor of the original music] cleverly wove the old theme into his new atmospheric score and had the brain-wave of using the brilliant young Courtney Pine for the sax solo's." Cleverly indeed! And chillingly effective. Harry Angel whistles to himself "Girl of my Dreams" and as he discovers more about Johnny Favorite, the song and the main theme become more and more elaborate and complete, and eventually in one of the scenes the shy piano rendition of the theme gets orchestral backing as the mystery reveals itself to us... impressive. However, at less than 38 minutes, I find it unforgivable that Rourke's whistling at the beginning of his search and the original 78 single, at the end of it, are not included. Horn's orchestrations and sounds were synthesized on synclavier and for a moment I'd wished he had used the real orchestra instead. Overall however, this is an outstanding soundtrack to an excellent movie.
HAUNTING.......2000-04-18
Although I usually find the inclusion of dialogue on a soundtrack to be intrusive, that's not the case here. Luckily it is not too overdone. The compositions by Trevor Jones and the sax of Courtney Pine bring back all the haunting beauty and terror of the film. There are no throwaway screeching scare tracks. At under 40 minutes, it is a beautiful rendering of a sinister mood that can be listened to again and again. More than a decade later, one might say the film doesn't keep it's "mystery" very well hidden but the music has held up. It's a superior example of a composer's ability to make a good film great and for that reason, I can watch it again and again. Note however, I could not watch the film without its score but I can spin the disc constantly. Alan Parker was a genius for choosing to go with atmosphere rather than musical hysterics. Never have the blues been so unnervingly hypnotic.
Ever feel like selling your Soul?................1999-03-30
ONe listen to this album and you'll be trasported into the middle of South Rampart street, New Orleans.. Even though the sax sounds slightly dated, the rest of the atmospheric background sound more than makes up for it. The two blues numbers are great while the dialouge just adds that something extra. And lets face it. Who doesnt want to hear Mickey Rourke and Robert De Niro converse in the middle of a Catholic church? One negative: OVERUSE OF THE HEARTBEAT!
a very sinister and beautifull soundtrack from a great film........1998-12-18
this soundtrack is atmospheric and moving. It combines dialouge from the film and strange sounds as well as some beautifull pieces of jazz.If you enjoyed the film this is a great cd to listen to on cold rainy nights.

Customer Reviews:
Not the best, not the worst.......2005-07-06
As the title says, the music isn't so hot, but it doesn't stink either. The singers are okay, but not as fabulous as the Original Cast. The singers voices tend to start off badly, such as the Christine singer, the one who sings for Meg, and the Phantom singer. They seem to be sped up and their voices, at times, are very shaky and sound a little nervous. At times, the Christine character seems to be whining. Not too much character or emotion is shown, but they do sing well.
The Phantom isn't too good. His voice seems to be too shaky and there's no emotion. Christine's voice is okay. It seems a bit shaky at times and she sounds a bit old for Christine. Raoul's voice is alright. Carlotta's voice isn't at all what I expected. I expected it to be loud and powerful. This one is soft and almost sweet.
I bought it mainly for the cheap price. S&H cost more than it. The people were okay, but this wouldn't be the best one to buy. If you are willing to listen to a shaky, whiny cast, but it. If you want an addition to a collection, buy it. If you are looking for fabulous singers and music, don't.
KYRA BRONTE.......2005-07-01
This is the recording with Kyra Bronte so if you already have the recording with Michael Heate and Kyra Bronte do not buy this, this is the same recording
i guess it's ok..........2004-09-09
I own the Original London Cast version of The Phantom of the Opera and I've seen the musical many times, and this is only my opinion, but I think the singer who sings as the phantom on this CD sings like he's getting choked by someone while he sings, and it also does not include the "Music of the Night" which is one of the main songs on the musical, so I wouldn't call this CD the HIGHLIGHTS from the Phantom of the Opera.
Mmhmm..... and?.......2004-01-01
I ordered this recording recently to build up my rather small Phantom collection, containing only the Original London Cast Recording and many mp3s that I've found on the internet. I listened to the CD all the way through in little more than half an hour- the short running time would not have irked me as much had half the emotion and talent of the Original London Cast been there.
The whole CD seems rushed, in a sense; the singers aren't all that bad, but they appear to overlook many of the small details added in other recordings. The background orchestrations are weak, as well, and many sound like I could have made them with a simple MIDI program on my computer. It's almost a shame to see such a great score and wonderful story ruined by this lack of emotion and input.
And we come to the part of the play that matters most to me: How good is the Phantom? Well, I rate the different Phantoms by whether or not I, had I been Christine in the story, would follow the Phantom, and choose him instead of Raoul. Had the Phantom shown up in my mirror with this man's voice, I might wander back to Raoul. I've heard worse... but it simply does not have the emotion, the seductiveness, and the longing that many of the other Phantoms that I've heard have.
If you're looking for another recording to add to your collection, I'd suggest the Original Vienna Cast, my personal favorite. Though you can't find it on Amazon, it's worth it to find it somewhere else and order, at least much more so than this below-par recording.
VERY GOOD VOCALS!.......2003-04-17
This was a HUGE suprise! The singers on this CD are VERY much musical-theatre singers and sound amazing! The music is bare...HOWEVER - real. A real pipe organ is used along with other non-altered instruments!
