Down in the Delta: Music from and Inspired by the Miramax Motion Picture [Soundtrack]
Editorial Reviews

[The soundtrack] relieves the usual gooeyness with inventive lyrics, fleet melodies, and spare performances.

One of the best things about multiartist soundtracks is the opportunity for creative pairings that otherwise might not happen. It's also common that an abundance of superior talent won't necessarily yield spectacular results. It works both ways here.

Beautiful.......2002-07-21
The movie to this soundtrack will be one of my favorites. But the CD on this is just beautiful. Hearing D'Angelo singing "Heaven Must Be Like This" make you wish you could see how heaven is. "Patchwork Quilt" by Sweet Honey in the Rock is another favorite. It is sweet yet so haunting. "IF Ever" by Stevie Wonder reminds you a nice summer's day and everything is well. Luther's contribution"Only Human" is also another favorite making it mellow yet seductive. A great CD. I enjoy it and you would too.

First of all, there is a track on the CD in which Whitney sings a bridge and for that reason alone you should buy the CD.
Overall, the CD is rich with mellow music with a jazzy twist. A Great collection of artistes on a CD that seems to celebrate Mya's first directorial debut. The first 16 tracks are amazing (NOTE: There are only 16 tracks). With Luther Vandross, Cassandra Wilson on one song together, Why would I hesitate to not fall in love with this.
I put this soundtrack up there with my Love Jones CD. Heaven Must be like this...........Janet, Whitney, Luther, Cassandra and Stevie, Chaka, Me'shell and D'angelo. How can you go wrong?
This CD was recommended to me by one of my Amazon friends and I am really glad that I did purchase it.

most of this material is lacking.what in the world was D'angelo thinking? Heaven must be like this is a classic by the Ohio Players.he makes it sound simple& boring.Janet Jackson sounds her usual out of tune self.patchwork quilt is the best cut by Sweet Honey in the rock.this could&should have been way better.
D'Angelo did it again................2000-01-20
No matter what he does, his soul shines through it all. Even when he does a remake of something, you feel it as though he originated it. I feel every piece of music that he has been on, and I hope that he continues to make such soulful music for the world to enjoy. Thanks D'Angelo.

Pick a song -any song! From the described aloneness from Janet's "God's Stepchild", to The Jazzfatnastees confession of "Let It Go"; from the desolution of Me'Shell N'Degeocello and Keb' Mo' in "My Soul Don't Dream" to Tracie Spencer's erotically passionate "The Rain", this soundtrack leaves no emotion unturned. It was a stroke of genius to have Sweet Honey In The Rock performing "Patchwork Quilt" -a fitting benediction.
