Superman eat your heart out.......2002-05-17

Little does anyone realize this, but Goldsmith was contracted to score the first Superman. He ran into some conflicts and so Williams scored the film. Goldsmith got the opportunity to do Supergirl and it, in my opinion beats out the theme for Superman. This was the only redeeming quality of the movie.

Another comic-strip Superhero comes to the big screen---Director Jeannot Szwarc sets the stage with Peter O'Toole, Faye Dunaway (Selena-evil sorceress) and Helen Slater was given the nod to play Kara/Linda Lee---alias SUPERGIRL...even Mia Farrow and Brenda Vaccaro showed up with supporting roles, to try and help things along.

If anyone could save this film, it had to be our favorite composer JERRY GOLDSMITH---with credits under his belt of ~ "OUR MAN FLINT"(1966)---"THE SAND PEBBLES"(1966)---"PLANET OF THE APES"(1968)---"THE OMEN"(1976)---"ALIEN"(1979)---and the score that started a whole new trend in SCI-FI THEMES ~"STAR TREK:THE MOTION PICTURE"(1979)---but in the next paragraph let's take a look at this one-of-a-kind score at hand.

Opening track "OVERTURE", over six minutes of pure power and symphonic majesty---"ARRIVAL ON EARTH/FLYING BALLET", gives the John Williams flying theme a run for its money---the closing "THE FINAL SHOWDOWN & VICTORY/END TITLE-SHORT VERSION", blending all themes together into one twelve minute treat---hats off to The National Philharmonic Orchestra & Chorus---and naturally our conductor and composer who is certainly deserving of a standing ovation ~ Jerry Goldsmith (SUPERCOMPOSER).

A Strong Contender to John Williams' Superman Music.......2001-09-19

Jerry Goldsmith did an excellent job composing the Soundtrack to the much underated 1984 film, SUPERGIRL. In this "fully-packed" 23-track CD, there is a compilation of music from the previously released version of the original CD (which was available back in the 80s when the movie was being shown in the theatres), as well as some previously unreleased/alternate versions of certain tracks. The Supergirl Overture or Main theme is a memorable piece, like Williams' Superman theme. Equally memorable is the Flying Ballet music, which comes with an alternative version on the CD. I believe that Goldsmith's composition for Supergirl would have been a classic like the Superman theme, IF... the movie had been sucessful way back then. Anyway, this CD is highly recommended if you are a fan of Goldsmith's music, which comprised of a host of other Film Soundtracks that include, Star Trek, The Omen, Poltergeist, etc.

Soaring with innocence.......2001-08-11

I'll admit, I loved the movie when I was a kid, cause Supergirl's outfit was great, but the movie was rather lacking. However, the music is the most moving I've come to experience, and I feel it deserves the same amount of respect as Superman received. Goldsmith created a masterpiece by mixing heroic action, true evil, and simple innocence into a story told better than the movie. My favorite piece is The Monster Tractor, becuase it really did move me the first time I heard it. For anyone who's in the mood for an adventerous tune, this is the soundtrack to get.

Preserver of anything 80's.......2001-04-27

It may sound flaky but the score to "Supergirl" is the greatest I have ever heard. I remember seeing this film as a child and it's music has stuck with me like "Star Wars". The theme alone I would pay $8 bucks to hear in surround sound. Okay, I know the story was a bit disheveled but what made "Supergirl" such a classic was it's uncampy acting and impressive visual effects. However, it would only have been half the adventure without that superior music. If there are any up and coming composers reading this please listen to this score and learn how to make a movie an experience.

Supergirl is a SUPER musician!.......2006-06-30

Helen Slater, the lovely woman known to many people as either SUPERGIRL or BILLIE JEAN DAVY, is just as powerful a musician as she is an actress! I can't say enough how awsome this woman is. She is the most incredible actress ever, and now she has made so much more inspiration through music as well! This album touches on so many simple things that one tends to overlook. It is amazing how clear she makes Sunday ice-cream and apple pie so tender and melodic and professional! Her music is poetic and soft, and her voice is angelic and sweeping, the kind of voice that whispers to you sweetly, but you hear it loud and clear! Her lyrics are about the more simple and happier things in life I find people to take for granted. We could all learn a thing or two from the wise compositions of Helen Slater! I've said it before, and I'll say it again, Helen Slater is a real paragon! Yes she is!

So I was rockin out on the Eiffel Tower the first time I heard the hit song, "Weir". Yes, the Eiffel Tower! (I wasn't the ONLY one jammin) After that I couldn't get it out of my head and embarassed my friends while singing it on the airplane home. Have YOU ever heard a song with killer lyrics that never get annoying? If you haven't heard Superman Supergirl/Black Sheep, you haven't heard anything! So get up and put this cd that makes you get up and dance in your shopping cart for umlimited fun!

Amazing..........2003-08-23

My boyfriend lives in Berlin, and I went with him this summer to the Xavier Naidoo concert this summer where Reamonn was opening. I was one of very few people there who understood all of Reamonn's music, and by the end of each song, I knew all the words to the choruses. They are so amazing, and the lead singer is so hot! I have found a new love and yet another reason to say that Germany is the best place in the world. Can't wait 'til they're back in Berlin!

I'm a Canadian living in Germany and think the Reamonn is the BEST band since the Pumpkins! Hope they make it to the US. Supergirl takes me to another place - there is not one song on the CD that just doesn't ROCK! Check it out.

Myself and loads of other Irish sang along to this song for months before finding out that the lead singer was Irish himself. It's a really brilliant song that gets bettter every time you hear it.

i live in the US, and i never heard of reamonn before i went to germany. i came back, and i had to buy the CD because it is so great. reamonn is such a good band! i also absolutely love the song "supergirl". buying the CD is well worth your money!
