Confessions of a Dangerous Mind [Soundtrack]

In keeping with this film's fantastic premise--that The Gong Show creator Chuck Barris led a double life as a CIA operative--the selections here err primarily on the zany side, although a couple cuts ("If I Had a Hammer," "Sincerely") are so incongruously earnest that they almost seem to imply his preposterous claims contained at least an element of veracity. Kicking off with Freddy "Boom Boom" Cannon's 1962 hit "Palisades Park" (which Barris composed), the program balances kitschy Esquivel and Yma Sumac selections that any well-heeled hipster will instantly recognize with a couple lesser known, but equally worthy, retro gems: Vicki Carr's campy "The Silencers" (originally the theme to a 1966 Dean Martin spy caper), and a jazzy rendition of "There's No Business Like Show Business" by Rosemary Clooney that actually divorces this Irving Berlin chestnut from its overpowering associations with Ethel Merman--now that's hard to believe! --Kurt B. Reighley

Great as far as it goes.......2006-03-19
Great CD with superstars Rosemary Clooney/ Vikki Carr.......2003-02-21
Actually, I really enjoyed this soundtrack and hope we can hear
more Vikki Carr music once again. I still listen to Moonstruck with Vikki's "It Must be Him" and now with her campy "The Silencers" on this soundtrack, I will be checking out her other CD's.
I loved the movie and I can recommend this soundtrack to anyone with great music taste!
