This is definitely the best yet...i especially would like to recommend this only because of lanie sumalinog(who played gigi)!!! she has a raw voice that draws from the deeper cannals of her soul. why, she is even better than the original gigi (or even lea).

Great recording of a superb show!.......2002-02-03
I only have praises for this German recording of Miss Saigon. This recording has a nicer surround sound to the orchestra and the voices mesh so well with each other, it may as well rival the other two english recordings. It has often been said that some foreign language recordings are much better off than their english counterparts. In this case, I certainly have to agree. Albeit this is only a highlights album, the leads sound so well together and contains all the vital songs in order to judge whether the musical is good or not. From the beginning of the jarring chords of "Saigon, Du fieberst im Licht", we know we are going to go on an incredible journey in a small part of Vietnam's turbulent history. We can sense the emotions felt and the rush in "Kims Alptraum" and the finale is really heart-wrenching. Another excellent recording I have to recommend would be the Dutch recording with Linda Wagenmakers (of Eurovision fame). These two are much much better than their english counterparts.
One of the best versions out there!.......2001-01-25
I am a huge fan of Miss Saigon, I love the original cast and the complete symphonic cast as well. I got this CD because I speak german and love hearing it sung. The people's voices on this recording are superb, especially GiGi, who sings the first part of 'Movie in My Mind' (#2 Mein Marchenfilm Vom Gluck), Kim is fabulous, too, as are the rest of the cast. I highly recommend this recording, it's a shame that german cast recordings are so hard to come by in the US. I also recommend the 'Deutsche originalaufnahme von Les Miserables' recorded in Wien which I purchased while visiting Germany in 1996.
Excellent... the best Miss Saigon Recording I Have.......2000-01-11
Hahaha! Those two previous reviews are quite funny... especially Poop's. Well, I have this version of Miss Saigon and I can tell you it's the best one I have yet heard.
Even though I love Lea Salonga, the London Cast is almost unlistenable because of the terrible Chris (with his horrible voice and forced vibrato). The Complete Symphonic Cast has a better Chris, but a lackluster Kim. I also have a Hungarian Cast version which is okay, but the Ellen sounds too much like a man to enjoy it.
The best version I have heard yet, is the German Cast. It has great singers for all the roles and even though you may not understand the lyrics (like me), the quality of the cast too good to be missed. "The Heat is on in Saigon" is especially good, with a 'bigger' sound (almost like you have a big band playing). The only drawback is that there are some tracks not included on this CD, since it is only a single disc. But try it out, you won't be disappointed! Or maybe you will!
GERMAN cast recording.......1999-12-08
In case Poop Nakamura missed the whole point, this is the GERMAN cast recording. So the musical is NOT sung in English -- it was translated into GERMAN.
I haven't heard this version but I love Miss Saigon and if this is anything like the Norweigan cast, I didn't understand what they were saying since I'm not Norweigan but I thought their voices were really great and powerful anyway.

'Boubil and Schonberg's Symphonic Pieces' is a very good choice to buy if you are a fan of Miss Saigon or Les Miserables. I thought the Miss Saigon piece was very well composed and played, and the Les Miserables piece wasn't one of my favorites but still good.

I just love the music and the play but was disappointed in this DVD. It didn't show enough of the film. I believe it wa about 1 hour long. I wish you would produce Miss Saigon on a DVD itself.

Very interesting to watch a production emerge from auditions to opening night.
The Original Miss Saigon.......2007-01-23
Almost two decades after the creation of Miss Saigon, the DVD version is finally released. Well, it was worth the wait... Just like the VHS, this is a documentary on THE MAKING OF, and does not include much footage from any of the productions.
Actually a behind the scenes look at one of the best musicals, it starts on the selection of who would play Kim; the Vietnamese girl. Auditions were conducted in New York, later In Hawaii and finally in the Philippines where Lea Salonga (Kim) and Monique Wilson (Mimi) are selected. Scenes of the staging, choreography and rehearsals have been included which do not contribute much to the documentary.
Fortunately, there are some scenes that make this production very valuable including the earliest rehearsals of Salonga, Wilson and Jonathan Price (who played then the Franco-Vietnamese engineer). Upon comparison, some songs vary considerably from the Broadway production. As well, this documentary includes scenes that never made it to Broadway and others with different lyrics; the originals.
A few minutes (too few perhaps) are dedicated to actual footage of the original London production ending with The Fall of Saigon (with a chopper on stage) and The American Dream (platinum hair girls and the twenty foot long Chevy). Overall this is an excellent production with good quality of video, poor audio and highly recommended to every fan of Miss Saigon.
The Process of Producing a Hit.......2007-01-18
The documentary itself was very informative and it's interesting to me how a production materializes. I just wished they would've added interviews of principal cast members, producers, writers and director since the DVD was produced some ten years or so later. Otherwise, it was still interesting to me.

A Wonderful Music.......2003-05-07
This Suite from Miss Saïgon was used for figure skating programmes. Tanja Szewczencko from Germany skated on that music in the free during the 1996 World Championships in Edmonton.It's second to none !!
Concerning the suite from "les misérables", it's the same thing as for Miss Saïgon. It's magic and was often used in figure skating programmes.
Laëtitia Hubert from France skated on it during the 1994-1995 season. Todd Eldredge from the USA skated on it in the 98 Olympics in Nagano.
It'a a pity that this CD is currently unavailable.
