Filmmaker Bruce McDonald's adaptation of Michael Turner's novel Hard Core Logo is about a fictitious Canadian punk band's reunion tour through the great North. Times have changed since the great punk era of the late '70s. Two decades later the music is still high-energy, but the folks playing it are a bit long in the tooth and out to prove otherwise. The music is provided by Hugh Dillon and Swamp Baby, who deliver punk fare such as the accusatory "Who the Hell Do You Think You Are?," the obvious "Rock 'n' Roll Is Fat and Ugly," and the drug-infested "China White (Ten Dollar F**k)." A take on the Dead Boys' "Sonic Reducer" lacks the focus of the original, but the inclusion of the Ramones ("Touring"), Teenage Head ("Bonerack"), and Chris Spedding ("Wild Wild Women") adds a touch of authenticity. --Rob O'Connor

4 out of 5 stars Give it a try!!!.......2006-10-12

I'm a punk from Detroit and never really got into canadien punk or bands, but being half canadien I decided to listen to this album. It is pure punk rawk and it isn't fake. The one singer almost sounds like Lee Ving from Fear, but better. If u like real oldschool punk, give this a try.

5 out of 5 stars Canadian Music at its best.......2002-07-19

Being a Canadian you dont get much chance to see what Canadian punk rock is all about. not only does this movie kick total ass but the soundtrack is awesome....sound quality could be better but its pretty good for a B movie.

4 out of 5 stars "Classic" Canadian punk... late 90s style.......2002-06-11

The movie, about an aging punk band's reunion tour, wasn't too accessible or entertaining but this soundtrack is incredible! True, the band are no more real than Josie N the Pussycats or Spinal Tap but that's no reason not to enjoy memorible punk shouters like "who the hell you think you are", "rock n roll is fat n ugly", "something's gonna die tonight", and "one foot in the gutter". Even the Johnny Thunders style ballads, "China White" and "blue tattoo" are good. Musically Hard Core Logo (actually Swamp Baby with actor Hugh Dillon screetching) recall the Dead Boys (who's "sonic reducer" gets covered) crossed with a sloppier version of early DOA. The bonus contributions from the Ramones, Teenage Head and Chris Speeding are a welcome addition. Other great punk soundtracks to lame punk movies: Josie & the Pussycats, Great Rock & Roll Swindle, Times Square and, to a lesser degree, "Repo Man".
Note: Fans of "Hard Core Logo" (both the movie & the soundtrack) should also sniff out "Prey For Rock & Roll" (again, both the movie and especially the INCREDIBLE soundtrack!).

2 out of 5 stars a sad waste of resources.......1999-01-06

Dillon is great in the film and his band but this cd lacks quality and variety. It sounds as if all are one song lifted directly from a bad copy of the film. Go for the canadian cd companion to the film, if you can find it.
