This belated sequel to Meet the Parents crowned Ben Stiller as 2004's unlikely top male box office draw, shrewdly offering Randy Newman another welcome showcase for his composing and songwriting talents in the bargain. Two buoyant Newman original songs kick things off in fine fashion, even if the upbeat shuffle "We're Gonna Get Married" and rousing, 1950s-seeped "Crazy 'Bout My Baby" aren't quite as snarky as his sardonic pop album canon. But his half-dozen underscore cues display an orchestral comic sense that's second to none, from the title track farrago to more parodying romps like "Suspicious Minds" and "Jack." Newman may coax sweet symphonic sentimentality and looming tension like a master here, but seldom passes up an opportunity to kick them squarely in the pants for comedic payoff. The collection is rounded out by Canned Heat's bright "Going Up the Country" and Tim Hardin's stately original version of the Bobby Darin hit "If I Were a Carpenter," as well as a pair of pleasant dub tracks by HeadBone. --Jerry McCulley

3 out of 5 stars Not very good, but not an awful one........2005-04-27

This CD is just so so. Not a very good one, but not terrible. It is because some tracks are good, and some aren't. Although the movie itself is great, not the music like Ocean's Twelve.

Recommended tracks: 1, 2, 6, 10, 11, 12.

1 out of 5 stars Meet the dissapointment !!!.......2005-02-13

Wow, I can not believe that two of the best songs of the film were cut off. 1.- Rock and roll part II ( Gary Glitter) and 2.-Get it on (T. Rex).
The rest has been said in the other costumers reviews.

4 out of 5 stars why so long a wait?.......2005-01-13

I must have checked 10 stores for this soundtrack when the film made its debut 12/22 and it took too long to release! The soundtrack is an eclectic mix of vocals and instrumentals that conjure up Greg's paranoia, Jack's stern and conservative attitude, and the Fockers' overly-relaxed welcome - even some tunes to remind us of the adorable Little Jack! "We're Gonna Get Married" plays over the opening credits and "Crazy 'Bout My Baby" plays over the end titles. Like the reviewer above, "If I were a Carpenter" is the most beautiful song ever written! Bravo to true lyrics and the original version! The Florida salsa mixes were a blast too - so why only four stars?? Where was Rock and Roll (Part 2) by Gary Glitter, played when the Flower man takes down Mr. Mom on the footy-ball field! AHHH! I hate when key songs are omitted - I know it's been overdone, but at least I have "Moonlight Mile" to compensate. Buy with "Meet the Parents" - a great set. You'll never forget the voilin string as Mr. Jinx flushes pitiful Moses down the portable RV toilet!

4 out of 5 stars tim hardin's original version of "If I were a carpenter"!!.......2005-01-12

Tim Hardin's version finally breaks through into mainstream use! Bravo to Universal. Tim's original cuts of "Reason to believe",and "If i were a carpenter" are so good, it is a shame that only a relativly small audience has been treated to his voice and phrasing. The rest of his works are poised to be discovered, recently "dont make promises" and "hang on to a dream" have been covered wonderfully by Paul Weller, and Kathryn Williams respectivly. look into his albums, you'll be glad you did.
