With their dueling guitar leads and harmonies built on a double drummer foundation, the Allman Brothers Band cast the mold for the southern rock sound that would proliferate in the '70s. Virtuoso musicians, their songs drew upon a number of southern influences, including country, the blues, New Orleans jazz, and even gospel, creating a sound that was distinctly theirs. Decade of Hits is a great catalog of the Allman's at their guitar wielding best. The sweet, infectious harmonies on the instrumental "Jessica" have become a classic reference point in themselves. Next to the tragedies that plagued them--two motorcycle deaths, heroin addiction--the Allman's are probably best known for the heroic "Ramblin' Man." Written and sung by the now legendary Dickey Betts, the song contained everything that made the band great: intricate guitar harmonies, a strong melody, and just enough twang to keep the thing tight. Decade also contains Allman staples "Melissa," "In Memory of Elizabeth Reed," and "Southbound." --Steve Gdula

LOVE IT.......2007-04-26
I love this CD. I wish there were more hits on it, but hey. I like The Allman Brothers Band loads better than Greg Allman on his own. It took me awhile to finally find the song/s I like, done the way I remember them. Glad I finally found this one.

This is a great copulation. I Highly Recommend this cd.
GREAT SOUTHERN ROCK COLLECTION.......2007-03-13
The Allman Brothers' A Decade of Hits 1969-1979 is arguably the best greatest hits compilation ever assembled and released within the Southern Rock genre.
Indeed, it is a most enjoyable listen. It has the early hits with the fine-tuned organ and the top-notch guitar work of the great Allman Brothers. The very early tracks from the 1969-1970 period, Whipping Post and all, are quite appealing and are reminiscent of those darker tunes in the style of Sugarloaf's Greeneyed Lady and Santana's Soul Sacrifice.
The commercially successful records that put the Allman Brothers at the top of the charts but were, sadly, recorded and released well after the death of Duane Allman are all there, from the number 2 hit, Ramblin' Man, to the immortal instrumental that has received international accolades, namely Jessica.
For those who want a perfect Allman Brothers sampler without delving into the boxed sets or anything that is outside that frequently played on the classic rock radio stations, this is it. You have the signature live and studio pieces that have preserved the Allman Brothers' legacy. 'Nuff said.
Great CD from one of the greatest bands..........2006-11-05
This is one of those CDs that takes me away to a different place every time I listen to it and there are very few artists that can achieve that. The Allman Brothers were (and still are, albeit with an altered lineup)the best blues/rock band ever, in my opinion. This "Decade of Hits" does nothing to dispel that opinion. I love every single song presented here. My particular favorites are "Dreams" (which features a rare, super slide-guitar by Greg Allman); "Statesboro Blues"; "One Way Out" (with the extraordinary slide-guitar race between Duane Allman and Dickey Betts); "Revival" with a chorus that makes one think of a Deep South gospel choir; the exquisite "In Memory of Elizabeth Reed" which is pure Allman jam with no vocals...the list goes on and on. If anyone out there needs a crash-course in the blues, this is a one-stop class. You will not regret purchasing this.

Amazon.com essential recording
Sarah Brightman's career was launched by her success in Andrew Lloyd Webber's Phantom of the Opera, so it's no surprise to hear the soprano paying homage to the composer on this disc. Really a Brightman best-of, the album includes the Phantom theme (a duet with Michael Crawford), the light-opera fare of "Chanson D'enfance" from Aspects of Love, "Don't Cry for Me, Argentina" from Evita, and numerous other Lloyd Webber classics. Throughout, Brightman's diminutive voice lends a fragility to these musical theater tunes that you'll either love or despise. On Evita's "Another Suitcase, Another Hall" and Cats' "Memory," she literally chirps through the vocal lines. No matter. The growing legion of Brightman fans wouldn't have it any other way. --Jason Verlinde

Sarah Brightman sings in good form classic songs and does a great job!!
Andrew Lloyd Webber .......2007-02-12
Excellent Broadway music--a true master. Sing along or just listen. First heard her on PBS.

Sarah Brightman has always been a favorite of mine, and this CD is outstanding. The duet with Jose Carreras (Friends for Life) is especially good--worth buying the CD for that song alone.
The Best You'll See from Sarah.......2006-09-09
This CD is - wow! I have so much to say about it and so little time! This album features three pieces from "The Phantom of the Opera" - Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again, The Music of the Night, and The Phantom of the Opera theme. They're all beautiful. The second piece on the album is "Unexpected Song". It has beautiful octaves and orchastrations. Chanson d'Efance is an amazing French piece with vibrato - and then some. I forgot to mention that there is another piece from The Phantom of the Opera - All I Ask of You - except that the song is not sung by the original cast from the musical. The next few pieces are fairly decent, until you get to Memory from Cats. WOW - is it spectacular! Then we get to two other pieces from Cats - Gus: The Theater Cat and Macavity: The Mystery Cat. Gus is a song that just tells about a cat and his history. A man speaks the lines that Gus would say in the actual musical - and it makes the song interesting. Macavity is AWESOME! I know that I said that I didn't prefer this song for Brightman on her album "Surrender". I finally listened to it more carefully, and found that it's really interesting to listen to! My favorite song on the whole entire album - however - has to be "Tell Me on a Sunday". Beautiful lyrics, orchestrations, and overall spectacular voice talent ties the whole song together. Pie Jesu is a fairly nice piece from both Brightman and Paul Miles-Kingston - the 16 year old boy soprano. His voice is pure and straight with minimal vibrato. However, Brightman's voice shows a little bit TOO much vibrato! Overally, it's a good piece from Andrew Lloyd Webber's Requium. THIS CD IS AMAZING! If you love Sarah from the Phantom of the Opera, then this collection of Lloyd Webber's work is just for you.
I also recommend Charlotte Church - (in her earlier career) - including Voice of an Angel and her self-titled album. I also recommend Love Changes Everything - The Andrew Lloyd Webber Collection Vol.2 - just another grouping of Webber's classics. I also recommend Andrea Boucelli - he's awesome!
The Angel of Music.......2006-03-13
This is the third copy of this I've purchased. I wear them out listening to them. Awesome, Awesome music. Sarah's range and depth is so powerful!

Very disappointing, considering what it could have been.......2007-04-20
Take a look at the running times:
Disc 1: 60 minutes
Disc 2: 50 minutes
Disc 3: 61 minutes
Disc 4: 58 minutes
What gives Silva? There is *MUCH* more John Williams in the silva screen back catalogue by the Prague Philharmonic than what is in this set, and thats not including their entire discs devoted to Star Wars Films, Indiana Jones Trilogy etc. Why isn't Hook "When You're Alone" included on Disc 2? There's room. Why isn't 1941 on Disc 1? There's room. Why isn't Earthquake on Disc 3? There's room. Why isn't Far and Away on disc 4? There's room. Where's the other ten minutes of the Rare Breed suite on disc 3? Why isn't Midway on disc 1? Where are the Land of the Giants, Time Tunnel and Lots In Space tv themes? Etc. Etc. Etc.
C'mon Silva, most of these 4 disc mega boxes released in the past few years are packed to the brim, but not this one, and with new recordings made after this was released (the terminal, munich, geisha, war of the worlds, star wars ep 3, harry potter 3), it only makes sense for a "re-do" in the next couple of years.
Further, with Silva releasing the 100 Greatest Film Themes on six discs in a couple of months, it's only a matter of time before we see the ultimate six disc john williams set.
This isn't a BAD set to own, but it could have been much better and when compared to the Jerry Goldsmith and John Barry sets in this same series, this one is a major letdown.
Always a pleaser.......2007-03-31
I listen to music all day with patients in my dental chair. This one is a winner with everyone. Patients always comment on how they recognize a song. Who doesn't love John Williams? His music transcends time.
JOHN WILLIAMS 40 Years of Film Music.......2007-01-10
This 4 cd pack is an anthology of all John Williams works. From his earlier works "The Poseidon Adventure" and "Jaws" right through "Indiana Jones" and the most recent"Star Wars" prequel movies are included. Williams work in thriller and horror are also included. If you are into soundtracks and love movie music this is an essential buy. The quality of the music is excellent. With ten or more tracks on each cd it's well worth the money.
Movie Music Magic & Memorabilia.......2006-12-13
This four CD set expands on the previously released John Williams Greatest Hits. It's a grand collection of nearly four hours of famous music scores from over forty years. There are many songs never before available in any collection. The short liner notes tell a great tale of musical movie history and include all of his numerous award nominations and wins. Each song (oddly enough) mentions the actors and the director, so fond are John Williams's memories of his work with these people. All of the conductors are mentioned along with specific orchestras, choirs, arrangement and orchestration specialists and even the publishers (contractual, I am sure). The only things missing are his early television scores, such as those for "Lost In Space" (by Johnny Williams back then). But with four discs, one has nothing to complain about and everything to enjoy!
John Williams: 40 Years of Outstanding Film Music.......2006-11-28
I have been a huge fan of John Williams and I have known about his music for years. However, I never actually bought any of his music on CD. I was rather skeptical about purchasing this CD but when it arrived I knew I had made the right choice. The sound quality of the compilation is outstanding. The City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra do a great job under the direction of Paul Bateman. The original London Symphony Orchestra CDs of John Williams' Star Wars Trilogy CDs are marginally better but this is still a great CD compilation. If you love ET, Star Wars, Indiana Jones and Harry Potter, you will love this compilation soundtrack. Buy it, listen to these CDs in the car and enjoy every minute of the collection!!!

Despite being known for her televised sleuthing these days, Angela Lansbury once managed to both spook and delight Broadway audiences as the maker of very particular delicacies in Victorian London. In this macabre extravaganza, Lansbury's Nellie Lovett is the accomplice of Len Cariou's Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. After he slashes his victims, she turns them into her meat pies' main ingredient. For this most ghoulish of shows, Sondheim looked for inspiration in the way the music is used in horror and suspense movies, particularly in the soundtracks of Bernard Herrmann. The winner of nine Tony Awards in 1979, Sweeney Todd may not be Sondheim's most accessible score, but its operatic complexity (it is almost entirely sung-through) makes it darkly spellbinding. --Elisabeth Vincentelli

Customer Reviews:
Sweeney Lives!.......2007-05-14
"Sweeney Todd" was and is Sondheim's grand masterpiece, Tim Doyle notwithstanding, and this recording is the grand masterpiece of Sweeney Todd recordings. Listen to Len Cariou's voice -- magnificent! (And he was suffering from a bad cold/sore throat, supposedly caused by the fake earth the gravediggers used to shovel in the beginning minutes of the Broadway version of the musical). Angela never sounded better than on this remastered CD. On a small system like a boombox or a portable you won't notice a big improvement on the original CD, but on a room system you will feel the difference. The "bonus" tracks are a total waste of CD space. Couldn't they have found a rehearsal tape or a demo or something??? I think so.
I remember my mother driving me to the Korvette's Dept store at the Blue Star Shopping Center to get the original Sweeney Todd LP (yes, that's how old I am...). I played it to death, almost literally. I think I went through another LP set and a casette tape set before CDs came out. In my mind, nothing will ever beat that LP for sound and emotion and power, but this remastered CD is the next best thing.
A Masterpiece.......2007-05-06
Sweeney Todd is arguably one of the greatest musicals ever written. It has gorgeous melodies, witty and poetic lyrics, and a thrilling plot. The CD also showcases one of the best casts Broadway has ever seen.
Angela Lansbury is sensational as Mrs. Lovett, Sweeney's "partner in crime". She delivers every song in a brilliant British music hall style, and every track she is on stands out. She is luminous.
Len Cariou is simply marvelous. While most people know (the highly overrated George Hearn) from the video, in my mind Len remains the definitive Sweeney. He plays the part with a brooding intensity and shocks as well as chills. His "Ephiphany" is possibly the best track on the album. A thrilling performance.
The rest of the cast is also spectacular. Ken Jennings is a very sweet and heartbreaking Tobias. Victor Garber delivers "Johanna" with a strong voice. Sarah Rice also does very well as Johanna, both sh a Garber are a delight in "Kiss Me".
This is a cast ablbum every true Broadway fan should own. It is, in a word, magnificent.
Sweeney Todd, the Demon Barber of Fleet Street .......2007-01-13
Only need one word to review this CD. Great
If you're going to hear a musical..........2006-09-04
...make it this one!
Sondheim's 'Sweeney Todd' has been described as quasi-operatic, so unending is the musical flow in this masterpiece. The plot is twisted and insidious, but something that many can take a sort of perverse pleasure in watching unfold. Angela Lansbury as Mrs. Lovett is the jewel of this recording. Heartbreaking in 'The Worst Pies in London,' Lansbury also manages to sound obsequious and nasty ('God, that's good!') and even slightly insane (the final scene). Len Cariou as Sweeney Todd may feel a bit underpowered at times, but it all goes to underscore the differences between the Todd character's outward appearances and inward struggle.
The supporting cast rises to the challenge, with an especially wide-eyed Toby and a very fruity Pirelli. The chorus is powerful and borders on the edge of manic insanity in such gripping moments as 'City on Fire.' My personal favorite from this set is the crazed, joyous counterpoint of three soloists and the chorus all singing atop each other in 'God, that's good!'
This is a beautiful recording and a triumph of the 'musical' genre. Don't miss it!
Good but...........2006-06-16
Sondheim is regarded as being a "musical genius" but I would strongly disagree. While his music is certainly complex (bordering on chaotic), he has yet to evoke any emotion or passion in his music. His melodies are pretty, witty, complex or intellectual. Never gorgeous.
With that said, Sweeny Todd is definitely his best work. There are a few good numbers in here. "Joanna" is a pretty tune and so is "Not While I'm Around" but, again, not gorgeous. My personal favorite has always been "Kiss Me", a lyrically witty love declaration between the two young lovers.
Everyone always criticizes Andrew Lloyd Webber's music, which, in my opinion, is often luscious, sweeping and dramatic. It evokes the days of Puccini and even Rogers & Hammerstein. I'll admit Andrew Lloyd Webber is far from brilliant and he is famous for using the most insipid lyricists in the history of musical theatre, but Sondheim's music is incapable of approaching the gorgeousness of Webber's work. Now I will say that if you attend a Sondheim musical, you're in for an intellectually stimulating experience.
Just because music is intellectual does not mean it's wonderful. Sometimes intellectual is just that. When I go to the theatre, I want to be moved, not quizzed. Sondheim needs to learn how to compose melodies that, at least, follow some form or structure and don't simply drift off into A-tonal murkiness. An audience can't be expected to cry or experience emotions if the music isn't lifting them or taking them anywhere.
On last thought...
Phantom of the Opera is the longest running show on Broadway...and there's a reason! It's moving. You'd have to have a heart of stone not to be moves by the sweeping melodies. You can point out all of the show's shortcomings but you cannot deny that most of Webber's score is gorgeous. No matter who you are, if you go see Phantom of the Opera you will be moved. You could also see Sweeny Todd on Broadway and find it interesting and amusing. To say the least, you'll walk out of the theatre thinking, "Wow I was just intellectually stimulated! ALL RIGHT!"...and that's about it.
Webber's music IS musical theatre, Sondheim's music is like a sea of watercolors that bleeds into a murky mess.

A teen pop star whose fleeting fame was usurped by that of Donnie Osmond, Keith Green--former runaway and rock & roll bad boy--went from rabble-rouser to born-again Christian in the aftermath. By the mid-'70s he and his wife, songwriter Melody Green, dedicated their full lives and musical abilities to their faith, forming the still active Last Days Ministry, in which the music played a central focus. Tragically, Green died in a 1982 plane crash and his short but prolific career thus became of greater poignancy to the evangelical Christian community left in the wake of his passing. Green's musical message, piano pop with hard-line born-again themes and lyrics showcasing his theatrical vocals ("Most people don't find out till they're half dead / That they need another life"), is presented in total on this posthumously issued volume of The Ministry Years. --Paige La Grone
Customer Reviews:
those crazy prophets.......2007-05-07
To call Keith Green a prophet may seem the product of an unguarded moment, particularly if 'prophet' is up there beside 'flawless' on your conceptual shelving. Yet a slow-and-steady listen-through of this two-disc compilation does more than take me back to my teenage years, when Green plausibly had as much influence as anyone on the shaping of my adolescent faith. It reacquaints me with his prophetic impact on a generation of mostly young Christians in this country and the United Kingdom.
Like many prophets, Keith Green saw matters in black and white. Like many, his preference for the short, sharp shock over against conversation and process galvanized many of his listeners into a depth of commitment to Christ that might not have happened otherwise. It alienated others, who might have become friends.
Like many prophets, his impact was for a moment. Like many, he died suddenly and young.
Like some, his legacy endures--arguably--because its more extreme impulses were not allowed the years in which they might have grown into something uglier, something destructive, something vain.
In consequence, his songs wash over this reviewer with a potency that is difficult to reduce to description. Time and again, Green picked up on a theme, set it to music, and brought it across in a more relational, intimate, transparent mode than seemed possible. In that way, too, he was a prophet. Like one of those wandering 'men of God', his proximity to the divine mind and heart are almost spooky. Like them--his mission accomplished--he was quickly gone.
If there was a more powerful influence on what we now call Contemporary Christian Music, I cannot imagine who that would be. Keith Green handed us a precedent made of words, expressions, a penchant for exhortation while there is still time that continue to flow into the work of artists as diverse as Twila Paris, Delirious?, Steven Curtis Chapman, and Chris Tomlin.
Green pushed at every boundary that ever appeared around him, driven by a near obsessive hunger to see others love Jesus as he himself did. He did not worry about offending if only some poor, homeless wretch might still be brought in.
He would have been hell to work with. Keith Green at faculty meeting? The horror ...
But when he spoke, back then, lots of us listened. Many of us chose. Many are still living out the implications of that choice, realizing in retrospect that God used an imperfect spokesman to say something better to us than even this passionate troubador knew he spoke.
Like prophets do.
excellent!.......2007-02-06
While the music itself(by modern standards) may be considered easy listening, the lyrics are hard hitting meat and potatoes. You know exactly where he stands and where we ought to. The praise is just that too.
Some of the best music in History.......2007-01-28
Keith Green was God's chosen instrument to sing truly life changing, God glorifying songs that edify and open the hearts of believers to Worship the Lord. I thank God for this compilation of tremendously wonderful songs that soften my heart and bring tears to my eyes whenever I listen to them. This compilation and the 80-82 cds as well are my favorite music of all time from any genre! I whole-heartedly recommend this album and any of Keiths albums to all who want to come closer to the Lord.
Keith Green "Ministry Yrs- '77 - 79' ".......2007-01-05
Keith Green excelled at integrating 'popular folk' sounds into Gospel. It was unique because for one Keith was blessed with an unusual ability to seemingly be adept at singing on the high end of Tenor reaching well above where most could reach, and his 'sound' was undeniable of that ability. He both wrote & composed his own songs which although to his credit, do not present a wide variety of style, exposure, or influence other than what was his signature sound. His anthology contained here represent his legacy well, but realizing his career was cut very short after contracting cancer. His Strong points continue to be the integrity in which he lived matched Closely to the themes of which he sang. Also his passion and love for his LORD was undeniable throughout his repertoire. This is a very good listen, not so much for Keith's creativity, but for the content which consistently ran strong to encourage those who make think themselves unable to reach God;Keith's testimony is one that protrays Jesus, as his Redeemer, Lord, Advocate & Friend.
His songs convey a 'Real' relationship with God that is both powerful and unbreakable.
A never ending ministry.......2006-12-25
God brings certain people into this world for a reason. Keith Green didn't leave his own mark, but delivered God's timeless message through his music. Through his musical ministry you can feel his passion and love for Christ is real. He believed what he said and practiced what he preached. Every time I listen to his music, I feel his energy and passion for God and can't help but be touched my it. The difference is, the music and words make me think of Christ and his selfless love for the world. It isnlt just another "hey that's a great song." There is substance and meaning. I can't help but think that this God fearing and exceptional man was taken home so soon because our heavenly father felt this world wasn't good enough for such a devoted Christian. His work will live on because it is God's will.

great music.......2007-03-18
I was fortunate to see the Broadway musical back in the late 1970s. The love story of Marvin Hamlich and Carole Bayer Sager was done so well, I wish they would remake it again.
An old favourite worthwhile re visiting.......2007-01-12
I recently went to a small production of Theyre Playing Our Song and it made me recall just how catchy and "boppy" this show was - and rather than get out the old LP thought maybe i should buy the DVD - it may not be the best nor lavish musical - but if you want to bring a smile to your face and remember a fun time - this certainly fits the bill!
Broadways best.......2005-10-25
A little known musical from Hamlisch on the tails of A Chorus Line. This love story with book by Neil Simon is a real gem and it's fun to hear Luci Arnez.
They're Playing Our Song.......2005-09-19
I saw the original broadway play. The CD tells the story without anyone having to see the play and does it beautifully. It is a fun cd to listen to and brought back wonderful memories of my trip to the Big Apple and everything good about broadway.
Tuneful Little Broadway Gem.......2004-08-26
An excellent no-frills musical from the 1970's with an impeccable pedigree - music by Marvin Hamlisch, lyrics by Carole Bayer Sager, and a script by Neil Simon (allegedly based on the actual Hamlisch/Sager relationship). The stars were Robert Klein and a dazzling Lucie Arnaz (daughter of Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz). The only other cast members were three boys and three girls - basically backup singers and dancers - who had the habit of suddenly appearing from within the scenery to act as the leads' alter egos.
The plot was simple enough - egotistical and mega-successful composer takes on a new lyricist - a kooky, insecure incurable romantic still bruised by a recently ended affair. Of course, the two are totally different and dislike each other on first sight. But anyone who has ever seen a musical knows they are destined to end up together.
This musical with just two characters worked because of the rapid-fire dialogue, the fast-paced direction, the clever sets, the larger than life performances, and the songs. I'm always surprised that songs from They're Playing Our Song have not become standards because it is such a solid and inventive score. The uptempo title song and others such as "Workin' It Out" had the same sort of catchy hooks as the disco music of the time. But better than that, the show was filled with soulful and reflective ballads such as "Fallin'", "If He Really Knew Me", "Just For Tonight", and "I Still Believe In Love". In fact, the score is much stronger - and stands much better on its own - than the one from Hamlisch's other great success A Chorus Line.
Lucie Arnaz lit up Broadway with her performance in this show and it's easy to hear why on this CD. A lesson current producers could learn from They're Playing Our Song is that a musical doesn't have to be big to be good.
By the way, there is also a recording available of the London cast in which Tom Conti conclusively proves that the Brits are no better at doing American accents than Dick Van Dyke was at being a cockney in Mary Poppins!

I LOVE THIS CD!!!!.......2007-04-10
This CD is NOT a remix..like so many of them are these days...this is the REAL DEAL...all the songs are GREAT!!! I just love it!
Great set of tunes!!.......2005-05-16
Celebration: The Best of Kool & the Gang is the best songs from a great band.
In fact, I NEVER met anyone who did not love Kool & the Gang.
one of the best of their "best of"s.......2005-02-04
It's a great compilation of Kool & the Gangs hits. Although a few hits are missing here: Rocksteady, Summer Madness, Emergency, Be My Lady, Good Time Tonight,... But it is really too hard to collect all their hits in just one CD, 'cause they have soooo many good songs.
The Penultimate Collection.......2004-07-04
I actually give this 3-CD collection 3.5 stars. CD 1 will teleport to the great times of the 70's and 80's. CD 2 incorporates more synthesizers and has more of a rock 'n roll feel. If they had left songs like "Straight Ahead", "Peacemaker", "Rags To Riches" and "Strong" off of the second CD and added the three missing classics, "Summer Madness", "Hollywood Swinging" and "Open Sesame", I would have given this CD collection 5 stars. CD 3 provides hipper (remix) versions of a couple classic tunes. Thus, this not the ultimate collection but the penultimate collection. Still, it's a nice CD.
Buy the combo.......2004-01-27
The CD is a good complilation of the later works of Kool & The Gang. It compliments the Best of Kool & the Gang 1969-76 CD, so I suggest buying the both of them if you want a comlete collection of CDs that cover Kool & the Gang's career with out overlapping and duplicating tracks. Added bonus: the version of "Cherish" on this CD is the extended track.

Amazon.com essential recording
There are many, many Andrew Lloyd Webber albums out there, including cut-and-paste compilations and songbooks from individual artists, most notably Sarah Brightman, Michael Crawford, and even Jose Carreras. The Premiere Collection is probably as authentic as you can get in a hits album, however. In addition to the most popular selections from the original casts of Evita, Cats, and Jesus Christ Superstar, the 57-minute album includes two selections from Tell Me on a Sunday (also recorded by Bernadette Peters as Song and Dance), the title tune from Starlight Express, the "Pie Jesu" from the Requiem, and a snippet from the Paganini Variations, thereby allowing you to hear the good stuff without having to spring for the complete albums. Note that the three selections from Phantom of the Opera are the 1986 pop singles instead of the cast recordings, meaning Steve Harley rather than Crawford sings with Brightman on the title tune and Cliff Richard subs for Steve Barton on "All I Ask of You." (Crawford does sing "The Music of the Night," of course.) This 1989 compilation was too early for Aspects of Love or Sunset Boulevard, and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is ignored, but these omissions are rectified in the follow-up album The Premiere Collection Encore, and the American-slanted version, The Very Best of Andrew Lloyd Webber: The Broadway Collection. --David Horiuchi

Musical Pleasure.......2007-07-03
I enjoy all of this music, listening frequently. Some not original cast members, so less than 5 star. Product exactly as advertised.
The Premiere Collection.......2007-01-17
My sister had this and it got destroyed. She wanted an other, This was the only place I have found it!! Very hard to find! I have been to every music store in my area. She loved it!! And was so happy to have it again. Anyone who loves Andrew Lloyd Webber will love this. As it has many songs from some of his most famous plays with the original cast. Great item.
beautiful.......2006-12-21
This CD is a great compilation of some of Andrew Lloyd Webber's hits. If you are just looking for a "quick fix" for your Broadway craving, this is a great value.
Fair Album with 1 starlight and 0 aspects.......2004-07-09
I think this album is F-A-I-R because it has one starlight express song and zero aspects of love songs. This is why i liked the album The reason i said that this is a fair album is that I like Starlight Express better. Song i like are "The Phantom of the Opera", "Take That Look off Your Face", All I Ask of You", "Don't Cry For Me Argentina", "Mr. Mistofflees," "Superstar," "Memory", "Starlight Express", "Tell Me On A Sunday", "Music of the Night", "Another Suitcase in Another Hall", and "I Don't Know How To Love Him". I dislike the following songs:" Track 6" and the last one because the last one was hard to understand and track 6 is instrumental.
Superb collection.......2003-08-11
... It is a collection of the best of ALW's creative efforts, and a collection of great performances. Anyone who loves "Broadway" should have this disk in their collection.

Over a recording career that spans three decades, Canada's Bruce Cockburn has established himself as a passionate social advocate, a deft guitarist, and an adventurous musical spirit. Though nobody would characterize him as a singles artist, this collection of tracks originally earmarked for (and often ignored by) radio presents his often earnest, occasionally elliptical song craft at its most accessible. Cockburn's rhythmic insistence and airy arrangements--punctuated by jazzy violin and saxophone--redeem "If I Had a Rocket Launcher" and "A Dream Like Mine" as more than sloganeering, though the stridency of "Call It Democracy" belabors the message at the expense of the music. Bookended by two new cuts, this anthology anticipates a reissue series of Cockburn's catalog through his new association with Rounder Records. --Don McLeese
Customer Reviews:
Very Best of Cockburn.......2007-02-22
I am just newly acquainted with the powerful lyrics, melodies, and beat of Bruce Cockburn. I now own 6 CD's, but this one, my first, is my favorite. All strong winning songs and 16 in total. I feel guilty enjoying his social commentary songs like "When A Tree Falls," as much as I do, for they relate to our failures in dealing with the environment and other peoples as things to abuse for our benefit. I guarantee you will not be sorry you bought this CD.
All the Good Stuff on One Disc.......2006-07-18
Anything Anytime Anywhere: Singles 1979-2002 puts some of the best Bruce Cockburn songs all in one place. From early favorites like "Wondering Where the Lions Are" to more recent gems like "Pacing the Cage" and "Last Night of the World," this album features a great mix of songs that are fairly well-known. The only song that I miss in this collection is "One of the Best Ones." Bruce's beautifully crafted lyrics and melodies make him an inspiration for burgeoning singer/songwriters like myself.
Bruce is amazing.......2006-05-21
This is a nice compilation of tunes, old and new. My Beat is great, and so is Tokyo. They are all terrific, really. I highly recommend this album!!!!!
Poetic Lyrics and Captivating Music.......2005-08-17
This is an excellent collection. Bruce has a knack for getting to the heart of world political matters through song. He does it with love and care and the soul of a poet.
I highly recommend this CD. I am enjoying it very much.
Not the Best Introduction.......2005-07-04
I love anything from Bruce, anytime, anywhere, but you could do better than start here. The new cut, "My Beat," is a waste of bandwith, and I hate it when they add one song to get you to buy an album. No wonder everybody is downloading. This is a best-of from Stealing Fire on (ca. 1984). From that period you'd be better getting Nothing But A Burning Light (which contains the excellent "A Dream Like Mine"), The Charity of Night ("The Coming Rains") or Breakfast In New Orleans, Dinner in Timbuktu. Or better yet, go back to 1979's Dancing In The Dragon's Jaws or 1980's Humans. Everybody has their beef about a pet song that's left off a compilation. I've got about 20, but I'm keep them to myself. Bottom line is: you owe it to yourself to stock up on this excellent songwriter's backlog.

This is GREAT For ANYONE who likes 70's Music!.......1998-11-18
The 70's had a broad array of music... from Soft Hits that we all laugh about now, to Disco hits we all love to dance to. In Between we had some stiffs from Elton John, and songs some artists would probably rather forget about (England Dan and John Ford Coley). This box set is a must have for anyone who likes the whole 70's era!
