Product Description
Composed entirely by a cloistered Carmelite nun, the THÉRÈSE musical score features the talents of various Pacific Northwest musicians under the direction of conductor Vilem Sokol. This score weaves a beautiful melodic thread through the contemplative true story of THÉRÈSE, balancing between simple confidence and sensitivity, much like Saint Thérèse herself. THÉRÈSE musical composer Sister Marie Thérèse, O.C.D. combined her talents and experience as a composer and a professional cellist with her life in a Carmelite monastery. She offers the score an emotional depth and richness, which augments the interior nature of the film. For sale in the U.S. and Canada only.

5 out of 5 stars Hauntingly beautiful...captures the spiritual nature of St. Therese.......2005-11-21

Like John Debney's compelling score THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST, the THERESE score, composed by Sister Marie Therese Sokol OCD, is a rare artistic endevour celebrating love, simplicity, beauty and truth in its richest form through music. Not only is it a piece truly wonderful for Thanksgiving and Christmas, but also worthy for an Oscar Nomination.

THERESE: The Movie is based on the true story of Saint Therese of Lisieux -- how she lost her mother at four years of age, abandoned by her surrogate mother a few years later, plunging her into a mental collapse.

Then something miraculous happens.

At the age of 14 she undergoes a mysterious conversion and falls deeply in love with God and the desire to "save souls".

Then -- not old enough for the convent -- she goes all the way to the Vatican, where she boldly steps forth at a papal audience to beg for permission to become a Carmelite nun.

In the monastery, Therese, a teenage girl, gains insights that breathe fresh air into the Catholic Church and transform the world. Challenged by the austere, cloistered life, this pampered child discovers a simple way of loving God.

In a lavish period production, comparable to Merchant Ivory's "A Room with a View," THERESE tells the true story of Thérèse of Lisieux, the most popular saint of modern times. It's a story of struggle and tragedy, and the greatest of all romances. The story of an ordinary girl with an extraordinary soul.

5 out of 5 stars Truely a surprise!.......2004-12-10

The main website to Therese the movie has a few clips from this score, and it sounds amazing. I collect all genres of scored film music ranging from John Debney to Hans Zimmer and this score ranks right up there with the best of them. It's very honest in its sound and doesn't over exemplify any of the film's moods. I'm waiting anxiously to get my copy. I recommend this CD to anyone who likes scores, classical music, or are a person of faith who wishes to contemplate further on the message of the film. You won't be sorry for making this purchase.

P.S. Also, see the film. It is terrific, and we need more films like it in our theaters. With our culture suffering as it is, any film with a good, wholesome, positive, and faith affirming message is a true welcome. It's a film you can feel comfortable taking everyone in your family to see.
