Actor-turned-director Peter Chelsom calls Town & Country the "story of a man who dips his toe in the water of extramarital activity and nearly drowns," but it is better described as a comedy of manners tailored to the talents of stars Warren Beatty, Diane Keaton, Goldie Hawn, and Gary Shandling. Chelsom wisely delegates the musical score to fellow Englishman Rolfe Kent, a musician who's become one of the foremost practitioners of sophisticated comedy scoring (see Slums of Beverly Hills, Election, Nurse Betty). This soundtrack kicks off with a slate of pop tunes--from Patsy Cline and Louis Armstrong to Django Reinhardt and the Royal Crown Revue--that set the film's screwball tone, and Kent manages to subtly evoke the same sentiments in his playful orchestral writing. The musical touchstones here are the European comedic scores of Rota, Piovani, and, especially, Morricone's rich '70s oeuvre, though Kent infuses his distinctive work with modern touches and imaginative instrument choices. --Jerry McCulley

The Killers five-million-selling debut, 2004's Hot Fuss, saw the stylish Las Vegas quartet mining inspiration from its favorite '80s British acts Duran Duran, the Cure, and the Smiths. On its follow-up, the group turns its focus homeward. First there's the album title, Sam's Town, which pays tribute to the old-school local casino where the band got its start. Then there's the music inside, a collection of windswept rockers in the vein of Bruce Springsteen that leave the indie-disco vibe of "Mr. Brightside" in the desert dust. Working with producers Alan Moulder and Flood (best known for their work with U2, Depeche Mode and Nine Inch Nails), everything here sounds bigger and shinier, with full-blown strings and choirs coloring epics like "When You Were Young" and "The River Is Wild." Coming soon to a stadium near you. --Aidin Vaziri

doesnt measure up to hot fuss.......2007-07-09
sorry to all of you who really like this album, but in my own opinion, it can't measure up to 'hot fuss'
I love it!.......2007-06-27
The only thing that upset me was that there is no Killers c.d that has all my favorite songs by them on it. I do like most of the tracks on this one and on each c.d. that I bought they have great opening songs to start you out.
So Why Are These Guys Critical Whipping Boys?.......2007-06-26
Sure some of Sam's Town is a lot closer to two stars than five stars (think the pointless brace of enterlude and exitlude, or Uncle Jonny, the inevitable nod to every rock band's friend or relative with a voracious appetite for drugs, or the painfully banal Why Do I Keep Counting), but like former Giants/Cubs/Mets slugger Dave Kingman, when The Killers aren't striking out, they are hitting some mammoth and memorable shots. I was driving as Read My Mind spun up when I first played the CD. I had to pull off the road to avoid being a danger to myself and others. Nothing has changed in the hundred or so listens since then -- it is as thrilling a four minute compendium of longing and bravado as anything I've heard in a long time. (And, for me, it doesn't hurt a bit that its two bridges -- "the good old days; the honest man..." etc. -- recall David Garza's wonderful Crown of Thorns on his Overdub CD.) Nothing on the rest of the CD quite reaches that same high point and even the best songs of the second half, e.g. Bones and This River is Wild, come off like reworkings of the strongest material on earlier cuts, e.g. Sam's Town and When You Were Young.
But here's the thing -- The Killers are not afraid to stretch themselves. No playing safe here. They do bombast fit for an arena, they do humor, they do tender, and, with this bittersweet Valentine to their home town, they tell a pretty good story. Some of it doesn't work so well; a lot of it does. My personal guess is that as they mature there will be more and more successful blendings of those disparate elements. As they say about NFL draft picks, there's a lot of up side in this band. They just have to keep producing more "It's funny how you just break down/Waitin' on some sign/I pull up to the front of your driveway/With magic soakin' my spine" and less "am I strong enough/to be the one/will I live to have some children."
Still rocking, even after all the "Hot Fuss".......2007-06-02
Look, this album is no Hot Fuss, so I wish that people would stop comparing it. I mean do you compare Led Zeppelin I to Physical Graffiti??? No. It's the same band folks, just on a different path ---- and that's certainly no reason to write the whole album off. Besides, it wouldn't be right if they went in and simply made "Hot Fuss 2". That's not what GREAT bands throughout rock history have done, unless were talking about Metallica or AC/DC, which have earned the respect to do so.
There are many good tunes on this record --- of course, "When You Were Young", "Bones", and the hauntingly beautiful "Read My Mind". The album was worth purchasing for the later of those songs alone. Even so, the remaining of the album is still enjoyable and of great quality. For all the haters (who are more than likely disgruntled 90's alt. fans)--SHUT UP!!! This is a good album and worthy of appreciation.
Iam a victim of The Killers.......2007-05-31
After listening to Hot Fuss and completey falling in love with it I thought that this band coulden't really get any better.Well guess what? They did.I recently went to there concert in Atlanta Ga and this band is even more amazing preforming these songs live.It is very very rare that i listen to an album where i do not have to skip songs. This album is one of those.Every song gives a whole differnt meaning and new sound. It definatly is added to my favorite all time album list.Buy this album and you will not be dissapointed at all!

Album Description
It's the harmonies that draw you in. The big, lush, gorgeous harmonies. You're hooked and it's then that you realize that it's not just the harmonies. Everything about Little Big Town is unique to the country music world. Comprised of Karen Fairchild, Kimberly Roads, Jimi Westbrook and Phillip Sweet, Little Big Town's configuration of two men and two women is unique. Also unique is that there is no single lead vocalist all four take on lead vocal responsibilities. Little Big Town's voices blend so effortlessly one would think they'd been singing together since childhood. While that isn't quite true, their backgrounds are strikingly similar. All four band members began singing in church and with their families and Phillip even performed in a family band. Each then blossomed in their craft during college, a career as a professional musician the clear path for each. Equity. 2005.

Great Musicianship and Awesome Vocals!!!!.......2007-06-19
This album is a real gem! I first was exposed to this group through watching them do "Good As Gone" on Nashville Star last season. Prior reviews which criticize their similarity to Fleetwood Mac are really unfair to both LBT and Fleetwood Mac. Yes, they were definitely influenced by Fleetwood Mac, but they are extremely talented in their own right! The vocal talent and musicianship is first rate!
My one criticism (which is minor) involves a certain similarity of the first three songs on the album. In other words, there is a very similar vibe in a number of songs such as Good As Gone, Boondocks, and Bones...(Tryin' to Find A Reason - also similar vibe - is later in the album song order).
There is some great guitar work which includes some very impressive Dobro work from Jerry Douglas. This album is definitely worth getting!
Hillbilly Gold.......2007-05-21
Like Ray Charles used to say, "Country music artist tell great stories." I'm slowly becoming more of a contemporary country fan. And I stress; contemporary. The first time I heard 'Bring it on Home, I thought, "I kind of like that song." A good friend let me listen to the CD and I was hooked. 'The Road to Here,' is a fun piece of work; welcome to the family!
It's all good visiting Little Big Town.......2007-05-15
Okay, so I'm totally re-writing & re-submitting my rating of this album. I went to a "Little Big Town" Concert and was blown away. They were incredible and I own them a huge apology for only giving them three stars the first time around. The harmonies were amazing...so, I've gone back and listened to the album & deemed myself delerious in relation to my first review. The four singers are perfectly balanced and the songs are fun. No wonder they won big Country Music Awards for this album. So, ignore my first rating and buy the album.
love it.......2007-05-14
Great CD! And they are just as good live in concert! I recommend it. Balance between slow songs and upbeat songs.
Great music for a non-country fan!.......2007-05-09
I purchased this CD because I heard some of their songs on TV while browsing through channels. Although considered a country group, their music has a Fleetwood Mac sound to it. I never thought I'd purchase a country CD, but Little Big Town has changed my mind about the genre. Great harmony and great musicians!

This debut album by the small-town girl with the big, powerhouse voice showcases two distinctly different sides of Kellie Pickler's music. The hard-riffing uptempo material recalls the heartland rock of Bob Seger and John Mellencamp, with Pickler providing a good-ole-girl twang. Among the highlights are the emancipated strut of "Red High Heels," the playful humor of "Things That Never Cross a Man's Mind," and the tomboy bluesiness of "One of the Guys." Yet the American Idol finalist turns pure diva on the over-the-top balladry of the album's other half, with swelling strings and arrangements that overpower rather than enhance "I Wonder" and "I'm on My Way." On such cuts, producer Blake Chancey (Dixie Chicks) never gives Pickler a chance to show the subtlety and nuance that makes music more an art than a competition. --Don McLeese
Customer Reviews:
Kellie Pickler is on her way!.......2007-07-06
Well on her way! What a pleasant surprise this cd is! I think I prefer this cd to that of the other blonde country girl from AI. Kellie Pickler's music is lighter and sunnier and I find her actually more interesting and easier to relate to. This cd is the one that comes to my mind when I think of a backyard barbecue in the summer or when driving down the highway with the wind in your hair.
Being born and bred on the west coast I'm naturally averse to too much twang, but that is not a problem at all here. Several songs on the album are pure fun (Red High Heels, Things That Never Cross A Man's Mind, One Of The Guys) and the sweet, Dolly Parton-like sound of her voice is perfect for them. Many of the songs have a rock edge that appeals to someone like me who grew up on rock and roll in the 1980s. Girls Like Me and I'm On My Way are moving songs that are instant classics. Listen to I Wonder and see if you don't become a lifelong Kellie Pickler fan in a minute. Can anyone actually listen to this song with dry eyes?
On a side note, I am disheartened at some of the negative things that have been said about Ms. Pickler. Her early life may have been less than perfect, but that is certainly no fault of hers. To hold it against her in any way is cruel and unfair. It is a testament to her strength and her abilities that she has been able to come as far as she has given her less-than-ideal circumstances. Who is more praiseworthy--the one who is born with every advantage and achieves greatness or the one who is born with some disadvantages and achieves greatness?
In sum, this is overall a very impressive body of work that I never expected from a girl who got voted off AI. I admit that I underestimated her.
Now I just can't wait until her next cd comes out. Way to go Kellie!
Dreams do come true.......2007-06-29
She's from NC, she's a blonde, and she loves shoes! How can you not love Kellie Pickler! Just another reason to love country music - real people singing real songs...
Judy the Writer - Also from NC, a blonde and shoe loving country girl!

Awesome!.......2007-06-11
This is a great album. Highly recommend buying it. She has done a great job of telling her personal stories in a beautiful, melodic way. She has great talent-- I look forwards to her next album. Good job-- Pickles!!!
Better than I thought.......2007-06-08
Because Kellie is compared to Carrie Underwood often and I love CArrie----I was not sure if I would like Kellie's CD----I actually liked the CD better than I thought I would. It was great- I love the songs and they all tell a story. I would recommend buying this cd- Listen to clips and you can get a glimse of this great new artist.
Can't wait for the next one - this is so good!.......2007-06-02
I really liked Kellie when she was in American Idol, I would have voted for her but I live in the UK so I couldn't! This album is so good, it's obvious that this is the type of music that she loves. Both her heart and her soul shines in this collection of songs. It's a good mix and I can't separate any of them. The only trouble is that I just can't get the tunes out of my head, I wake in the morning and start humming one of them before my feet touch the floor. It's a shame that I can only buy this stuff from the USA, Amazon.co.uk don't stock it. All I can say is:'Can't wait for your next album Kellie!!'

Great recording, great price. Buy this without question!!!!!.......2007-07-08
I stumbled across this little gem for the low price of about $3.00. I almost kept going assuming that the price was an indication of the quality. Glad I looked twice.
This is a wonderful album with respectful treatments and excellent sound quality, performed by the some of the greatest musicians in the world from the London Symphony Orchestra, the London Philharmonic Orchestra and the Philharmonica Orchestra.
The Enigma Variations, a Theme and 15 short orchestrations that Sir Edward then named after his friends and family based on personality traits, are a wonderful, uncelebrated Opus. I love these pieces. They truly showcase the power of Elgar's compositional style and flair. They certainly rival his more famous Pomp and Circumstance, in my humble opinion. The recording is sharp, well mixed, with no perceivable noise.
As for the Pomp and Circumstance recordings, well done throughout. All 5 pieces are played wonderfully and recorded beautifully with excellent sound mixing and very little, if any, background noise.
Cockaigne Overture is, once again, perfect. Marvelous treatment, wonderful musicianship, excellent sound and quality.
THIS HAS GOT TO BE THE GREATEST MUSICAL VALUE ON THE SHELVES RIGHT NOW. I STILL CAN'T BELIEVE I ONLY PAID $3.00 FOR THIS RECORDING. I WOULD HAVE GLADLY SHELLED OUT THE OBLIGATORY $15.00 - $20.00 CONSIDERING THE QUALITY OF THIS CD.
IF YOU ARE READING THIS, YOU MUST BUY RIGHT NOW, BEFORE THEY COME TO THEIR SENSES AND RAISE THE PRICE!
CLASSICAL MASTERS.......2007-05-12
I BOUGHT THE CD FOR POMP AND CIRCUMSTANCE BUT QUICKLY FELL IN LOVE WITH THE ENTIRE PIECE. IT IS WONDERFUL!
Noble Elgar, unbelievable price.......2007-05-05
This is not some schlock budget disc, which the price might suggest. Boult was one of the great Elgar interpretors (Barbirolli too) and these performances, especially the inspired Enigma Variations, bring out the very soul of Elgar. Sound quality, by the way, is excellent--warm and rich analog glow.
Great for High School Graduations!.......2007-03-12
I am the Principal of a small private boarding school that opened just last year. We do not have a school orchestra, so when the time came for us to plan our graduation ceremony, I searched all over the web for the traditional music. I heard some awful, piano versions of Pomp and Circumstance #4, and some other lackluster symphonic versions. Seraphim's CD of Elgar's works is by far the best. It is warm, heartfelt, inspiring, rich and incredibly well produced. Perhaps having the London Symphony Orchestra and the London Philharmonic Orchestra was the best choice, as they are playing the works of a fellow countryman. Several people came up to me after the ceremony to comment on the music, saying they were extremely moved by the music. Not bad for just playing it over a boombox!
By the way, if you are planning on using this for a graduation, know that you will have to edit out the long introductory passage and figure out how to loop the most famous "graduation" section over enough times to get through your ceremony!
Elgar's Greatest Hits at a Rock Bottom Price!.......2006-09-28
You just can't go wrong with this compilation of Elgar works and this super-cheap price. The performances are full-priced quality. This is a great introduction to Elgar CD. The Enigma Variations will bring tears to your eyes!

Amazon.com essential recording
Happy is the composer who has an advocate as passionate and talented as Leonard Bernstein. These Copland performances have been the preferred versions since they were first issued--better even than the composer's own, later recordings. Originally they were spread over two discs, but thanks to the extended playing time of the compact disc, you can now get all three great Copland ballets together, along with the ever popular Fanfare for the Common Man. Bernstein brings to this music the right sharpness of rhythm but also a typically open-hearted warmth. He coaxes a virtuoso response from the New York Philharmonic, which knows this music as well (or better) than anyone. Self- recommending. --David Hurwitz
Customer Reviews:
What more could one ask for?.......2007-06-27
Aaron Copland's masterful works are here interpreted by Bernstein. Nothing says the American sound like Copland, and there is no better interpreter than Bernstein. This recording is one of the best in my collection. I would recommend this to anyone (even non-classical music fans).
Definitive Is Right.......2007-02-27
I have the SACD version of these recordings (except for the "Fanfare" which, in this case, is the version taken from Bernstein's recording of Copland's Third Symphony) and I must agree with others here that the performances are definitive. The "Rodeo" has more energy than any other recording I know of, in fact it can almost go over the top! "Billy the Kid" is quiet and tender, dramatic and bold and "Appalachian Spring" is dead-on. The last section of this ballet is one of my very favorite pieces of music and Bernstein's tempo and phrasing here could well be called perfect.
Definitive Recordings of Copland's Popular Ballet Scores From Bernstein, NYPO.......2007-02-11
Without question, this splendid CD is my favorite recording of some of Aaron Copland's most popular orchestral ballet scores. In Leonard Bernstein he had both a good friend and a devout ally, who successfully championed Copland's music, helping to ensure his reputation as one of the greatest - if not the greatest - 20th Century American composer. Sony has done a superb job in digitally remastering this recording, offering some of the best sound I've heard from a vintage Leonard Bernstein/New York Philharmonic recording. But more importantly than the recording's superb sonic quality is the quality of these performances of Copland's scores. Bernstein leads in New York Philharmonic in these virtuoso performances, replete with lush, vibrant playing from the winds, horns and strings. His warm, truly heart-felt interpretation of "Applachian Spring" is truly mesmerizing, and the best I have heard from a recording. And yet, I am am just as impressed with his conducting of both "Rodeo" and "Billy the Kid"; the latter replete with superb solos from the orchestra's timpanist. An elegant performance of "Fanfare for the Common Man" closes out this CD recording. Fans of Aaron Copland, Leonard Bernstein, and the New York Philharmonic Orchestra shouldn't hesitate in acquiring this superb CD.
American Music at its Highest .......2007-02-04
If I was forced to recommend one CD of American music, I would feel very safe in backing this one. These interpretations have yet to be surpassed, and not even Copland himself could muster the same type of perfection that Bernstein and the New York Philharmonic did in this recording. Bernstein's way with Rodeo is unbelievable, and this alone is worth the price of the disc. The music on this recording has a lot to do with why, as Americans, we can all be proud of our place in the history of western music.
With 39 reviews under me, I will dispense with the adjectives to try and describe each interpretation of each piece on this disc, and simply say that these performances have been recommended by almost everyone (professional critics included of course) since they appeared; get it and find out why.
The best of Copland.......2007-01-09
For the Aaron Copland fan, this CD has the essentials: the most popular and easy listening of the Copland body of creations. Enjoy!

Five for Fighting is actually just one guy with a rather substantial chip on his shoulder who's taken his name from the amount of time a hockey player spends in the penalty box for fighting. Los Angeles native and erstwhile prodigy John Ondrasik really knows his way around a melody, bolstering it with a dramatic sense of timing and rhythm like a more modern and hipper Elton John. And that defiant chip does makes for powerful poetry, although oftentimes he sacrifices logic and clarity for the sake of iambic pentameter. While "Superman" is a catchy affair about the restrictions of being superhuman and the desire to belong ("I'm only a man in a silly red sheet looking for special things inside me"), it's doubtful that anyone who ever read a DC comic would believe that Superman would ever be "digging for kryptonite on this one-way street," since a loose fragment from Superman's home planet might turn him into a blubbering infant or a giant ant. At best, Five for Fighting follows in the narrative-based path paved by Counting Crows. --Jaan Uhelszki

Five For Fighting Reign Victorious!.......2007-06-20
Five For Fighting signed with Columbia Records and released "America Town" on September 26, 2000. "America Town" went virtually unnoticed for more than a year after its release until the melodically soaring "Superman (It's Not Easy)" was adopted as the anthem for the heroes who emerged in the wake of the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center. Ondrasik's high pitched, emotive voice atop songs portraying genuine heartfelt messages make for a formidable opponent in any battle. The only flaw contained in this album shows up in the form of a song entitled "Michael Jordan." Below, please find the rating for each song individually:
Easy Tonight - 10/10
Bloody Mary (A Note On Apathy) - 10/10
Superman (It's Not Easy) - 10/10
America Town - 9/10

America Town FFF at its best.......2007-05-16
I have all of the FFF Cd's, and am a huge fan, but I must say that America Town is my favorite. I think if you have not bought any of FFF Cd's before and are wondering which to buy you will not go wrong with this.
America Town Five for Fighting.......2007-03-18
Good. Different from the first cd. Songs are good. Superman is also on the cd. Worth the money.
Sensational.......2007-03-12
Five for Fighting with their opera trained lead singer has a gift for bringing it on. Even the most mundane of songs are intriguing due to the vocals.
Great CD.......2006-02-17
Definatly worth it! All of the songs are great, but several in particular are very catchy. My favorite is Michael Jordan. If you like the sounds of groups like the Dave Matthews Band, Coldplay, Moby, etc. you'll love this CD.

Little Big Town's hook is their four-part harmony, and as hooks go, this one is pretty terrific. There are moments so pretty and folky and sweet they almost sound like Crosby, Stills, and Nashville. And the fine wall-of-mostly-acoustic-sound, while at times a little overloaded with drums and unnecessary instrumentation, generally serves their efforts to penetrate a market that is at present a little bloated with music that lacks essential nutrients. To their credit, the band wrote nearly all the tunes on their debut CD, and, even more laudable, they have chosen to swap lead vocals, risking audience confusion and the lack of instant recognition that comes with letting one member run the spotlight. If Little Big Town stand their ground, earn some character, and occasionally risk a little less production, they may mature into a fine addition to the vocal harmony tradition. --Henry Cabot Beck

LITTLE BIG TOWN- LITTLE BIG TOWN.......2007-03-10
I PURCHASED THIS CD AFTER THEIR MASH CD WITH SEVERAL HITS. I REALLY ENJOYED THIS ONE JUST AS MUCH. I WISH THAT I HAD KNOWN THIS ONE WAS OUT FIRST, BECAUSE YOU CAN SEE HOW THEY HAVE GROWN WITH THEIR SING VOICES AS WELL AS A MUSIC GROUP BETWEEN THE TWO.

Unique Group.......2006-08-24
Little Big Town is comprised of the members Kimberly Roads, Karen Fairchild, Jimi Westbrook and Phil Sweet. This group has a really unique sound. The music is country-pop, but what makes it special are the harmonies that this quartet makes together. A lot of the songs have a positive sound. Highlights include "Everything Changes", "Stay", "Still", "Never Felt Love", and more. Overall the whole cd is great!

After variously celebrating their 30th anniversary with the star-studded The Ride, documenting their bracing live shows on Live at the Fillmore and doing a little intimate musical retrenchment on the self-released Acoustic En Vivo, Los Lobos returned to the studio with creative exploration on their minds. The result is their most sonically adventurous, thematically taut collection since the heady days of Kiko and Colossal Head. With lyrics penned mostly by multi-instrumentalist Louis Perez, the album's first-person narrative views a myriad of larger issues through slices of local life, from the immigrants' physical and spiritual travails of "The Valley" and "Hold On" to the liturgical grace of "Little Things" and the haunting impressionism of "The City." The musical tack is even more adventurous, a melange of diverse flavors that ranges from the infectious calo Spanglish patois of Cesar Rosa's "Chuco's Cumbia" and neo-norteno "The Road to Gila Bend" to the chunky r&b groove of "Don't Ask Why," the Caribbean-Latin fusion of "No Pueda Mas" and the shadowy, jazz reflectiveness of the "The Town." The Lobos blend it all into a compelling sonic landscape, one that's tamed the playful, psychedelic spirit of Perez and David Hidalgo's free-spirited Latin Playboys side project and focused it into a band context with rich rewards at every turn. -- Jerry McCulley
Album Description
The 13-track set--fittingly, the disc is the 13th studio album of the band's 30-year-plus career--was recorded over the last several months, with the band doing its own production work. Tchad Blake, who's worked with the group for many of its past albums, handled mixing duties. The album partially reflects the East Los Angeles roots-rockers' experience as de facto immigrants in their own country, as well as unease with the current political situation in the land. The band is currently on an open-ended touring schedule, which is typical of their roadwork.

Los Lobos Back in Town!.......2007-05-06
After a couple of pretty disappointing albums released in the 1990's Los Lobos returned to form with fine albums such as "Good Morning Aztlan" and "The Ride". The band continues the positive direction with 2006 release "The Town and the City". Though never as adventurous and consistent as their two greatest albums "Kiko" and "The Neighborhood", the album contains lots of great music.
More room is given to the soft melodic side of the band which suits the voice of David Hidalgo so well. Highlights for me are the two Hidalgo ballads "If You Were Only Here Tonight" and "Little Things". Among the harder up-beat track "The Road to Gila Bend" stands out - this song would have fitted nicely into the "Kiko" album.
Key songs, of course, are the two title tracks, "The City" and "The Town". "The City" is both rhytmic and grandiose, lyrically dealing with the alluring night-life of the city. "The Town" deals with the darker side of city life. A great bluesy song that makes a perfect ending to another fine Los Lobos album.
This Rocks!.......2007-04-04
This is their best work yet. Saw them last summer and loved them. They got better with age.

30 years together and Los Lobos has put out an absolutely solid, wonderful CD. While everyone is out looking for "the next hot thing," Los Lobos has stuck together and continued making great music. This CD grows on me each time I listen to it. Great songwriting, great musicanship, and great production. Easily one of the year's best.

A working-class hero is something to be. Just ask Michigan native Bob Seger, whose R&B-based rock and poetically uncomplicated lyrics made him a less cerebral alternative to Bruce Springsteen. For those who want the studio album that comes closest to a greatest-hits package, you can hardly do better than this 1978 LP. The follow-up to the previous year's smash, Night Moves, Stranger scored Seger a triple-platinum home run with can't-shake-'em-from-your-head hits like "Hollywood Nights," "Still the Same," "Till It Shines," and "We've Got Tonight." And even if the jukebox staple "Old Time Rock & Roll" has grown stale with time, Seger and company balance it out with the epic melancholy of the album's closer, "Famous Final Scene." Backed by incessant touring, Stranger in Town erased any lingering doubts about Seger's talent for crafting blue-collar rock anthems, cementing a reputation and a sound that's continued to hold up for decades. --Bill Forman

Seeker in Town...............2007-02-04
Yes people. I went out yesterday to see if I could see my shadow. All the townspeople clapped because I saw it! You know what this means, don't you? At least 6 MORE WEEKS of Metamorpho reviews! And, hopefully many more when the weather gets balmy (although some out there think I'm balmy enough already. Go figure). In any event- I am now imprisoned in my environment due to 2 feet of snow outside. So, I have grabbed a hot toddy and am now ready to reflect on this fine selection. Oh, before I forget, I resolved the imitation issue with my apprentice T. He had dated video tape to prove his whereabouts. He, however, directed your Metamorpho to a prankster named Jack. I will let you know how this turns out.
In an effort to rock on and prove to Guido a few things, I have picked Bob Seger's excellent "Stranger In Town" to review. What can one say about this gifted rock artist? I have always seen Seger as a white rock-soul artist (listen to that gritty soulful vocal approach!), but I do not like labels and, thus, you colour in your own impressions.
Some fine rock and ballads inhabit this great album. And he has hit upon at least one all-time classic with the airy, lovely "We've Got Tonight". Just a generous gem for sure.
The key motif for alot of Seger's songs seems to be his relationships with women. How their meeting is intense, how they come together like a blaze and, unfortunately, how they both move on. He moves along the slippery slope of human connections. However, wisely, sprinkles the music with a balance of rave-ups, excitement, melancholy, regrets and, finally, rambling forward with his quest. The rockers rock, the easier rock is smooth and glossy, and the ballads are all heartfelt. Quite nice.
We begin with that train-gallop of a beat with "Hollywood Nights". Yes. She had all the right skills but, as ill-fate would strike him (often) he eventually woke up alone. As a side note- in all of Seger's songs he somehow always seems to create an infectious "groove". And having a talented creative band doesn't hurt either. Listen to "Still the Same" and you'll see what I mean. A girl that gambles - and Bob knows a relationship with her would be a gamble that he would lose. Inclusion here of those backup female voices. The song oozes like sweet syrup.
"Old Time Rock & Roll" fits the Seger sound like a glove. Not much else to say here except if you haven't heard it a copy of it will be sent out IMMEDIATELY to your igloo in the artic. "Till It Shines" is a nice groove ballad about rising up from the imposed chains we put on ourselves. Nice word imagery here. "Feel Like a Number" is a nice rocker that is Bob's ode not to be just another face in the crowd. "Ain't Got No Money" (sounds strangely like "The Fire Down Below". No?) is the classic Seger strut song. No one is better at this than him.
I have already mentioned "We've Got Tonight", which I think is definitely the best ballad he's ever written. Then people, we get to one of Metamorpho's favorites "Brave Stranger". Sort of reminiscent of "Night Moves" subject matter. Listen to the piano, listen to the groove, listen to how the whole thing moves. We then have that stop and that soulful middle with the sax and those background singers. White soul extraordinaire. A joy, and then it moves upward, insistently, back into the main groove again. A wonderful tune. One that gets Metamopho's old blood cells moving once again
Then the ending, "The Famous Final Scene" which, ironically is last and one that, sadly, conveys all the ingredients included in a breakup. Listen to the crying sax- listen to Seger's mournful, soft, yearning vocals. So fine. So very fine.
In conclusion, this album has to be considered as one of his finest offerings - but, believe Metamorpho - there are many more. It is nice to see Mr. Seger out there recording again after such a long abscence. I asked my guides to "will" this to happen. After all, we missed that quality and had to have it in the 21st century. For all who like good rock- this is a must.
Well- that's it. Now I can only hope that some kid comes around that will shovel me out of this snowy mess. Do you think he'll accept spiritual currency? It's like a savings bond. Takes time to mature.
Anyway my people. Thanks for reading and hopes that you won't be hit by snowballs....
Looking to buy a 4-wheel drive----Metamorpho

Album Description
This latest Tone Center release is a collaboration by the longtime fusion guitar team of Brett Garsed and T.J. Helmerich. The players combine for a fusion super session with Tribal Tech's Gary Willis and Scott Kinsey and legendary drummer, Dennis Chambers.
Guitarist and studio engineer Helmerich had this to say about the recording: "The idea behind this CD was to get the energy out of the players while tracking. We knew what was possible this time around and wanted to make an exciting "up tempo" free for all! We knew that no mater how raw we made the tunes as it started...each guy would not only respond to the energy, but bring an element of class and musicality to the table that makes "Uncle Moes" the band that it is."

moe's town.......2007-07-03
this is top-notch fusion if you like it on the unpredictable side - it's sometimes abstract and electronic, sometimes funky, sometimes heavy, always interesting. each musician is outstanding. their first cd was, overall, somewhat more rock-oriented and less funky and electronic, but it's sorta hard to even classify these guys.
Uncle Moe's Updates Prog Fusion.......2007-06-04
Wow! What a CD! This is fusion perfection updated. Awesome players - the best in the world. Definately better than the first (extremely underrated) CD. I loved the first CD, however this one really sears into your brain as Uncle Moe's takes us on a serious/fun exploration of burning fusion 2007 style. The only recent CD that compares to this is the new Planet X CD "Quantum", which also updates the fusion/prog sound 2007 style. Both excellent CD's which share the same guitarist, Brett Garased, an amazing guitarist, in my opinion one of the best in the world. I highly recommend purchasing both CD's. They will ROCK YOU insideout!
