There are but two kinds of people in the world: Those captivated by Baz Luhrmann's heady, postmodernist musical romp Moulin Rouge--and everybody else. Oddly, the film's initial soundtrack release may have been the project's most traditional element, marketing a slate of pop-star contributions that gave listeners a sometimes-skewed perspective on its true musical charms. This follow-up corrects much of that oversight, offering original film versions of "Sparkling Diamonds" (the lavish, Nicole Kidman-performed medley of "Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend" and "Material Girl"), Jim Broadbent's and Richard Roxburgh's loopy take on "Like a Virgin," as well as the lively Offenbach "Can Can" parody "The Pitch (Spectacular Spectacular)." It also pays homage to the efforts of composer Craig Armstrong, whose quietly compelling underscore often binds the film's other far-flung musical influences together, be they stately orchestral readings of Elton John's "Your Song," a dramatic arrangement for Kidman and Ewan MacGregor's original film duet of "Come What May," or his dark, melodramatic take on Queen's "The Show Must Go On." The first Moulin Rouge soundtrack collection flaunted the film's bold, cross-genre ambitions; this one chronicles its nakedly emotional heart and soul. --Jerry McCulley

Customer Reviews:
Wow........2007-01-15
I must say...I was very glad when they released Part Two of the Moulin Rouge soundtrack. Don't get me wrong...the first part was great and all, but it was nothing spectacular. I was specifically looking for certain songs from the movie, and I was completely disappointed when they were on there. The release of a second soundtrack was, in my opinion, an absolute necessecity.
The highlights of the album are:
-Your Song (Instrumental)
-Sparkling Diamonds (original film version)
-Come What May (original film version)
-The Show Must Go On (original film version)
In my opinion, "The Show Must Go On" is the best song on this album...it was just so perfect for the ending of the movie, and I fell in love with the song. I was so disappointed that it wasn't on the first soundtrack. This song is part of what makes the second soundtrack so amazing...the song is fierce!!
If you love the movie and are a fan of the first soundtrack, then definitely, get this one. Many of the songs are versions taken straight from the movie - I recommend this with 4.5 stars...you will NOT be disappointed!
Love this CD.......2006-07-04
I love everything about this movie. The music is amazing and the instrumental songs on this CD are perfect. The first CD seemed to be more for a bunch of teenyboppers that wanted to hear the worst song on the whole CD (Lady Marmalade). If only they could combine the good songs from the first CD into this one.
I gave this 5 stars even though it's about a 4.5 because they split the soundtrack over two seperate cds.
Could it get any better?.......2006-03-02
So i thought that the first instalment in these soundtracks was great (and it was) but the purchase of this sequel is a must if you want the full effect. With the original film versions of these songs, sung by the stars of the movie, you get the real feel that was the magnifisence of Moulin Rouge! Ewan McGregor is still by far the star, with his talent spilling over the dramatic lovesong 'Come What May' and 'Your Song', but Nicole's brilliant performance as Satine definatly takes front and center in 'One Day I'll Fly Away' and the film version of 'Sparkling Diamonds'...I have noticed that many complain about how the first soundtrack did not include the film version of this song...well you need this CD then...you will not be dissapointed. Other highlights include 'Like a Virgin' which is downright histarical, and the dark cover of 'the show must go on' which highlights the tragidy behind this tightly woven tale. THis is one must have soundtrack for your ever growing collection. A perfect companion to soundtrack number 1!
Moulin rouge tried to fill up the GAP.......2006-02-12
This contains many great tracks missing from the original soundtrack, including Like A Virgin, Spectacular Spectacular and The Show Must Go On. I thought the inclusion of two instrumental versions of Your Song might be a bit redundant, but upon listening to them I really enjoyed them and they are quite different from one another. OK, it's not the best soundtrack that could have been put out. But it's pretty darn close. One thing that many DEDICATED fans of the movie (including myself) said is that the original movie soundtrack lacked the actual original movie score. There are 10+ songs in "Moulin Rouge" and many didn't make the final cut.
Baz did the smart thing, taking the audiences favorite music, a few gems from the first soundtrack such as "Come What May" and "Sparkling Diamonds" as well as a few new songs, like "Like a Virgin", "The Show Must Go On" and "The Pitch (Spectacular Spectacular)" and releasing the Original Film versions, allowing for the amazing vocal performances of the actors, including the fabulous Jim Broadbent, to be shine through. Also, released is background music "Meet Me in the Red Room", played during Christian's arrival in the elephant, marking the only non-actor/orchestral piece within the context of the CD.
One thing that this soundtrack included that I didn't expect was several orchestral pieces that were mostly used as background music throughout the film. "Your Song - Instrumental" (#1) has personally become a favorite and is constantly being repeated in the CD player. Also included is the ending credits music "Bolero" and the final piece ... known as "Ascension/Nature Boy". Also included is a remix of "One Day I'll Fly Away", and like all MR remixes, is a little tough to listen to at first but after repeat listening, it becomes music to your ears.
To all you MR diehards out there: this is a must. Not like I could stop you anyways. To others who haven't been introduced to the spectacular (spectacular) world of Moulin Rouge, this is a great introductory piece, especially side-by-side with the first soundtrack.
ahahahahaha.......2006-02-01
Everything the other customers are saying is true: more music from the film, thankyouverymuch, not irritating pop conceits like the first. However, I would not have reviewed this album unless I found it absolutely necesary to point out that, in the climactic moments of track 5 "Come What May," Ewan MacGregor's voice is for some reason missing and replaced by a bizarre, operatic man's voice. It truly had me crying with laughter the first few times I heard it, and I wanted to share this wondrous discovery with the world.

Customer Reviews:
The City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra needs a guitar player!.......2006-11-09
Granted, they only need it for one composition (the last one, "The James Bond Theme") but still, without the guitar it's just not the same. Barry didn't compose this one so I suppose it was a bonus and I shouldn't complain, really. The rest of the music on all the CDs is fantastic. Some of the stuff I had heard before without realizing who had composed it. Very enjoyable, to say the least.
Persuaders Theme!.......2006-03-02
Buy it for the Persuaders theme, probably the best TV theme song ever written.
A Variety Of Classics!.......2005-12-06
John Barry has been composing film scores for over forty years and this is only scratching the surface of his productions. Never mind that the entire set is recorded by the Prague Philharmonic; it's pure to Barry's themes. While John Williams compositions ("Star Wars", etc.) are wild and flamboyant and Jerry Goldsmith's (Hoosier's, etc.) are mood pieces, John Barry crosses over all barriers and is amazingly diverse. Barry has recorded most of the exciting James Bond themes, melodramatic classics like "The Lion In Winter' and moody theme hits like "Midnight Cowboy". He also tugs at the heartstrings with compositions from, "Somewhere In Time", "Frances" and "Out Of Africa". He varies his themes for all types of films and few composers capture it so well.
There is over four hours of music in this set with a colorful and informative booklet.
Incredible Barry Collection.......2004-03-11
Any fan of movies will absolutley love this collection. Being a movie buff I couldn't wait to get this boxed set. Knowing Barry from all the James Bond movies, I did not realize his involvement with so many others. The orchestra is magnificent in all these themes. I'm listening to "High Road to China" right now and I'm drifting in the clouds in a Tiger Moth with Tom Selleck and Bess Armstrong. If you are familiar with a movie it will definitely have you seeing it again, if not the scores are still beautiful. Any fan of classical music will be pleased as well. Travellers will defintitely enjoy it for a long drive. I know from when I use to travel that music like this made the miles float by faster. I highly recommend these four CDs even if you just know a handful of the songs.

Customer Reviews:
About time an updated version came out.......2006-07-20
When the original score was released in 1971, it left out most of the best tracks in the movie. This CD re-issue fixes that. Unquestionably the best one that was missing was 'Mr. Wint & Mr. Kidd' - the theme of the pair of effeminate killers & their antics with a scorpion. 'Moon Buggy Ride' is also a lively theme as 007 outraces Blofeld's thugs in an experimental NASA moon vehicle. About time the full soundtrack was released!
An Underrated John Barry Score.......2006-04-14
John Barry's complete score for "Diamonds Are Forever" is a memorable addition to the 007 catalogue, though it doesn't quite equal the high standards established by "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" and "You Only Live Twice." Nevertheless, this 1971 soundtrack far surpasses the mediocrity of "The Man With the Golden Gun." The remastered title song by Shirley Bassey is guaranteed to ignite your stereo speakers.
"Well, that's a neat trick....".......2005-11-27
Sean Connery's first return to the role of James Bond still sparks a lot of discussion among the 007 fans. Was DIAMONDS the first "camp" Bond film, as evidenced by the light touches and wild theatrics (gay hit men! Blofeld showing up in drag!)? Or was it still a dangerous spy thriller where Bond is nearly cremated alive and when he backhands Tiffany with his tie to get answers?
It's actually somewhere in between, I think, and that's why the movie is still cool after all these years.
John Barry produces another solid 007 soundtrack to give DIAMONDS its own feel and personality. My only quibble would be that the tracks are not in order but I understand from other reviews that they couldn't contractually produce it any other way. Maybe someday.
Everyone looked like they were having a good time in this movie, and it comes through the music as well. This is one of the CDs I always have in my car during my frequent trips to Vegas.
I think this is the worst of John Barry's 007 scores..........2004-08-31
I never really enjoyed the music during the film (nor, for that matter, did I enjoy the film!). Very tacky, dated, too much American flavour to the whole thing. Sadly, listening to the extended soundtrack has reminded me only of why I never liked this film!
Particularly dislikable tracks included : slumber Inc, The Whyte House, Circus Circus.
That whole excessive use of 'vibrato' (?) and other musical techniques sound so dated...
I am a huge, huge fan of Barry's other Bond scores, esp You Only Live Twice, and OHMSS, Moonraker and others. I think OHMSS is the best. So wonderful, lyrical, exciting yet wonderfully romantic at times.
Sadly, these Diamonds just don't cut it for me...
JOHN BARRY DOES IT AGAIN.......2004-02-06
of the original ten or twelve James Bond movies, are there really any bad soundtracks? The answer is no. And this one is one of the best. Lots of extra stuff here that wasn't in the movie, ended up on the cutting room floor, I guess. Great orchestral arrangements.

A lot of 70's Music.......2005-09-20
If you really like 70's themes, you should like this CD. It was a little too dated for me.
Bond and beyond on an excellent career retrospective........1998-08-25
Imitation is often considered the greatest form of flattery. John Barry's oeuvre has been sampled by dozens of contemporary musical artists, and he is often credited as being the godfather of "trip hop" (check recent albums by Portishead and Mono to hear the Barry influence). The Academy-award winning composer has been producing music for over forty years, but this collection focuses on the artist's most commercially successful period, the 1960's. The instantly recognizable and inimitable Barry style is well documented throughout 23 varied compositions. Selections range from classic to obscure, and include all the title tracks from the early James Bond soundtracks. Barry's film and television music is the defining sound of that era - lush orchestrations, cool jazzy riffs, pure excitement. "Themeology" is an excellent starting point for the novice collector and equally attractive for the long-time admirer.

Budd's finest score; superb mix of influences.......1999-07-24
Budd blends jazz, funk and eastern influences for this, the finest of his 1970s scores. Much sought after on vinyl thanks to the dancefloor-friendly, bass-heavy funk cuts, 'The Thief' and 'Thief On The Prowl'; this CD reissue gives the masses a chance to hear what the fuss is all about. Easy-listening fans will enjoy 'Brauty and the Bass', a wah guitar bossa nova. Jazz fans will find much to enjoy in the small group jazz tracks. In places lush and orchestral in scope; in others, tight and funky, Budd always maintains a tense atmosphere in keeping with the surprisingly good movie. A classic soundtrack to rank along with 'Shaft', 'Superfly', 'Trouble Man' and 'Bullitt'.

The melodic hramonies and at times humorous themes to these songs are catchy and enjoyable; they may be unsung but once heard they will not be forgotten.....it makes you wonder why didn't this show make it and yet Cats has been around forever?

DIAMONDS ARE FOEVER.......2005-12-13
DIAMONDS ARE FOEVER is one of my favorite James Bond Soundtracks. Even though much lighter sounding than its predecessors, this is one of the better James Bond soundtracks composed by John Barry. It has a shimmering sound much like that of John Barry's GOLDFINGER. Track-2: "Bond Meets Bambi and Thumper" is one of the best cuts on this soundtrack full of that inscrutable James Bond magic established by John Barry for Sean Connery and it actually sounds better than the re-mastered version. Track-5: "Death at the Whyte House" is full of atmosphere and elegance as Bond and Blofeld finally confront each other. It is a very thought provoking piece. Track-4: "Circus, Circus" is very glamorous matching the beauty of the female performers high above the gambling tables. Track-7: The instrumental "Diamonds Are Forever" is an exquisite rendition of the main theme and goes to prove that all that glitters is not just gold. John Barry's Diamonds Are Forever.
Diamonds are Forever, Forever, Forever, Forever, Forever.......2002-11-15
John Barry returns again with another masterpiece. Shirley Bassey for her second time performs the title song with sensational class and charm. Don Black returns with the title song lyrics. This soundtrack also features the classic "007" theme with track To Hell with Blofeld. Also heavily featured on this CD is quite a lot of lounge Las Vegas music such as tracks Circus Circus and Tiffany Case. There are also two Diamonds are Forever instrumental tracks that are featured on this soundtrack. All in all, one of the best 007 soundtracks and throughly enjoyable.
Nice soundtrack for Connery comeback.......2002-10-02
It's a real cool soundtrack, with some music missing again of course (but we don't miss it as much as OHMSS).
About the movie some guys call it a bizarre Bond, very different from the others. For me (a Connery fan) it's a priceless movie.
Again, we've got amazing Shirley Bassey and she gives us quite a song for Diamonds are Forever, in a more sensual way than Goldfinger. Actually, this sensuality (casino music touch!)is really around the tracks- "Bond Meets Bambi and Thumper", the two instrumentals for the main theme (as someone said it, one should be enough, adding instead new music), "Tiffany Case" and "Q's Trick".
John Barry gives us some excellent pieces of action music, like "Moon Buggy Ride", covering three different parts- the chase of the space vehicle (some people say it's ridiculous, I don't think so), the final part of the car chase and a love scene. There's also fantastic "Death at the Whyte House", with chilling notes, that's the part where Bond kills a Blofeld double and he's taken by Wint and Kidd ..., plus "Bond Smells a Rat" (a bit repetitive, but really tense).
But the gem of the soundtrack that any Bond fan is looking for, is "007 and Counting" that supreme music we hear when the satellite moves. It's a kind of Space March like in You Only Live Twice but here Barry gives a more mysterious touch (smooth!...)
"To Hell With Blofeld" is the Barry theme for 007 that we ear at the end of the movie.
It should have been edited more "casino" music on the CD, yet the selection is quite good.
P.S: I'm not hoping for some complete rerelease. I know there's Bond Back in Action, but those themes don't sound like in the movie
Theres a bit too much lounge music on this one, but still ok.......2002-09-22
I am noticing alot of redundance in the use of laid back instrumentals and not enough action music. Three versions of "Diamonds are forever" , One as sung By Shirley Bassey, Plus a piece called "Q's Trick" and "Tiffany Case". I'm sure John Barry did his best tyo round off the instrumentals but he couldve taken out several of those and included "Death of Wint & Kidd" or "Fight In The Elevator". I think its one of those rare situations where they should've made a two disc set of some soundtrack recordings. I can think of at least 6 great sections of music from the film that they couldve included if they made a second record of it. ... There are still some great pieces on the album, "The Moon Buggy Chase", "Bond At the Whyte House", and "007 & Counting". But why do they always assume they must play the theme song a trillion times on a recording for it to be any good? Couldn't they have at least lopped off a version of the instrumental song so they could add some new and interesting music? What happens to all that other music that , while still not marketable for most humans, still comes across as more exciting than hearing the main song over and over? Anyway its an ok soundtrack, but a bit too repetitious on the lounge instrumentals.
JOHN BARRY,S A REAL DIAMOND.......2002-03-28
BARRY HAS REALLY HIT THE HIGH NOTES WITH THIS ONE,
GREAT VOCALS BY SHIRLEY BASSEY ON THE TITLE SONG,
THE SCORE ITSELF IS ONE OF THE BEST IN SERIES SO FAR,THE STAND OUT TRACKS HERE
ARE, BOND MEETS BAMBI AND THUMPER, CIRCUS, CIRCUS,
DEATH AT WHYTE HOUSE,
DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER INSTRUMENTALS, AND MY PERSONAL FAV,
007 AND COUNTING, OVERALL THIS IS A VERY GOOD SCORE.

These Non Soundtrack CDs are growing on me.......2004-04-16
This is yet another collection of non-soundtrack James Bond movie themes. I like this one. The selections have their own sound yet let you reminisce about each movie in their own unique way.
Good Orchestral Interpretations.......2004-04-14
This CD has some very good orchestral interpretations and arrangements from the James Bond film themes. FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE and GOLDFINGER sounded exquisite. This is a good CD for the price. The cover artwork featuring a quasi-gun barrel and likeness of Roger Moore is very nice.
Great variation from a quality orchestra........2001-10-12
I'm not up on the technical side of orchestral music but I can appreciate this. Having a quality orchestra play the themes really does them justice and some of the music I have never heard before was great.

The exploits of Ian Fleming's British super-agent James Bond have long since become the longest running film series in history, spanning 40 years and counting. Not the least of the cycle's charm has been its music, a body of work that encompasses pop clichés (the twangy guitar of Monty Norman's original "James Bond Theme") and elegant underscores alike. While this collection spans music from Dr. No to The World Is Not Enough, decades of various legal entanglements prevented it from becoming the ultimate Bond music anthology. This is more a credible simulation, a newly recorded collection of cues and suites (including music previously unreleased on the original soundtracks) performed by Nic Raine and the City of Prague Symphony Orchestra. With John Barry's lush, ever-evocative scores both forming the core and setting the tone (but also featuring the work of George Martin, David Arnold, Michael Kamen, Bill Conti, and Eric Serra), it's the most comprehensive--if not exactly authentic--collection of Bond music yet attempted. --Jerry McCulley
Customer Reviews:
almost the perfect James Bond collection.......2005-07-20
this 4 CD box has most of the familiar James Bond compositions.
Still, some tunes are missing(from for instance Thunderball and For Your Eyes Only)and most of the time the attention is on the instrumental version of the title track which is a bit of a shame. And yet, there are too many great pieces on this collection to make it a failure.Alpine Drive,Dawn Raid at Fort Knox,On Her Majesty's Secret Service(every track),Miss Goodhead and so on.All great pieces that not only show the great talent of John Barry but also the great power of James Bond films.Cause when you hear the music, you see the scenes in front of you.
Very much a recommendation to all Bond and Barry fans although sometimes it focusses too much on title songs. The only solution is to buy all separate soundtracks.
Good Collection.......2005-02-24
Very nice packaging and good tracks from the Bond music library make this an anoutstanding item. "From Russia With Love" and "Diamonds Are Forever" contain beautiful and energetic renditions. The John Barry music is handled quite well. I didn't real care for the David Arnold selections. "The World Is Not Enough" was weak. Overall it is a good collection just the same.
Not excatly what I expected.......2003-04-10
I when I read some of the reviews of this I thought that this was a complete collection of all the originals of the Theme songs of every James Bond movie and remakes done by the Prague Philharmonic of some of the other songs in the various movies. After recieveing this ... I started to listen to it and found out that it was all done by the orchestra. The are very good, but to a point it is not the same thing as owning a disc will all the orignal songs on it. Overall, this good if all the you want is the orchestral versions of most of the songs in the movies or the suites out of some of the movies. To a point these don't compare to the orignals. Keep looking if you want a set with all the orignals songs in it.
The James Bond CD for the John Barry purist?.......2003-01-28
Let's cut to the chase. Nic Raine and the City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra do John Barry's work justice. 90% of this collection is as close as you can get to the original James Bond soundtracks. The other 10% lends itself to some artistic license with respect to the arrangements. Most notable is the main theme to Goldfinger. Also Nic slips in a few previously unreleased tracks. You will find these on the On Her Majesty's Secret Service and Golden Eye tracks. This CD boxed set is definitely made for the Bond soundtrack fan. The die hard John Barry "purist"/ traditionalist may find some of these tracks questionable at first, but after a few times Nic Raine's artistic license gives a fresh perspective to the familiar Bond/ Barry themes. The only reservation I have with this CD set is with some of selections that are performed. For instance, from Goldfinger, "Dawn Raid At Fort Knox" was a poor selection considering the selection available on that particular soundtrack. The most famous 007 soundtrack of all I dare say. Overall Nic hits the mark, and this CD set is a tribute to Barry's (as well as, George Martin's, Marvin Hamlish's, and Bill Conti's and David Arnold's) work. It's all here in one collection. I am a die-hard Bond soundtrack fan, and to the casual soundtrack fan I say this CD is set all you need to experience the Bond music legacy. To those who are hard core 007 soundtrack fans ...this is a FANTASTIC "addition" to your collection. This has to be the BEST (and probably the only) 007 "soundtrack" compilation. Whereas all the others feature the "main themes" from the Bond films as originally recorded, this one truly gives you the Bond experience.
Very enjoyable with most of the BOND music you'd want........2002-12-08
This is similar but more comprehensive than another BOND collection on one CD by the City of Prague Philharmonic. These are good renditions but clearly not the orginals. I must ask if the Prague Philharmonic does not own a harp? It is glaringly missing in the Goldfinger themes and i am sure on others. That harp is an exciting and beautiful touch to the wonderful GOLDFINGER theme and its absents is unfortuneatly very noticeable. Also some of the other themes can even sound muzaky if thats a word(elevator music)
It gets 3 solid stars good collection yet defineatly something is lacking.
