Director Karyn Kusama's independent film about a female boxer finding her footing in the male boxing world was a significant hit at the Sundance and Cannes film festivals. Its soundtrack traces an urban groove through many permutations, focusing on Latin hip-hop. There's the positive message of newcomer Cole, a South Bronx singer who's teamed up with guest rapper Queen Latifah and producer Dallas Austin for "I Can Do Too." There's the tough-street side of "Project Party," by MC Cuban Link, featuring Sunkiss; the pulsing bravado of "Unstoppable," by Remy Martin; and the carefully layered vocal attack of Fat Joe. Settling things down a bit is a brand new track from Grammy Winner Carlos Santana, whose "Olympic Festival" serves as the celebratory calm in the eye of the storm, and Theodore Shapiro's ambient "Tropicana," a sampler of the movie's instrumental score. --Rob O'Connor

3 out of 5 stars I can do too.......2001-04-06

is the best song on this soundtrack. the most low tone song that queen latifah has ever done I think. This soundtrack also features the works of Ness, Cubin Link, Santana with his song Olympic festival which I think is really cool, an edited version of the dilated peoples song, tracie spencer, Remy Martin and more besides.

The movie too is cool I have heard, can't wait to check it out, it's on video now, has been for a while.

bye everybody

5 out of 5 stars Girlfight gives me power.......2000-12-17

I love the unedited Girlfight CD. (I also loved the movie and was hoping to see it again, but it just disappeared.) I want to start a Girlfight Fan Club. I also want to choreograph dance boxing to the CD. I think Karyn Kusama has written about a female rage that has not been written about before. This is a movie (like A Thousand Acres) that noone really wants to talk about with others, but will remember within themselves.

5 out of 5 stars Amazing movie, phenomenal soundtrack!!.......2000-10-15

Girlfight was such a great movie that I absolutely had to go out and buy the soundtrack the same day. I love almost all of the tracks on this soundtrack, although among my favorites are "I Can Do Too" and "Out For The Count." I would recommend this soundtrack to anyone who loves rap and hip-hop, which I absolutely love! So, if you haven't seen the movie, go and see it and then go and buy this amazing soundtrack!
