She was famous as both artist and model, infamous as political revolutionary and social libertine, and Frida Kahlo's controversial life couldn't help but seem the stuff of great musical theater. Her story is brought to the screen by director Julie Taymor, whose musical compatriot here is also her husband; Elliot Goldenthal, student of both Copland and Corigliani, shrewdly sublimates his modernism in service of the rich, evocative music and songs of Mexico and Central America. Utilizing performers that range from the contemporary (Lila Downs) to the folk-classic (Costa Rican legend Chavela Vargas; Brazilian star Caetano Veloso) and traditional (Los Cojolites, El Poder Del Norte, Trio Huasteca, Caimanes de Tanquin, and others), Goldenthal generously displays the true breadth of Mexican folk music, while seamlessly infusing it with the minimalist corners of his own underscore and some winning songwriting of his own. The result is one of 2002's most compelling soundtracks. The enhanced CD features include musical film excerpts, as well as a video conversation between Goldenthal and star Salma Hayek and text interviews with the composer and director Taymor. --Jerry McCulley

Revolutionary times.......2007-05-14
I absolutely love this soundtrack! Everytime I listen to it, I feel as though I am in Mexico during the revolution and Frida's life. Everyone should choose their own life soundtrack and this one allows us to see into Frida's life more clearly.
Black Dove.......2007-05-13
Fell into the movie trying to avoid study and hang out with a jilted housemate. If I'm honest, Salma Hayek was the main draw. Wafer thin.
However, I was enraptured by the story of Frida and the amazing performance (no wonder she was oscar nominated).
I bought the soundtrack the next morning. It really got to me.This is a great soundtrack and, yes, it does help if you have seen the movie but not necessary. I loved the latin passion (highs and lows). Chervala Vargas as Elliot Goldenthal describes in the slieve was once Frida's lover. I loved her Paloma Negra. So powerful.
There is something for everyone in this long soundtrack.
Do as i have: watch the movie and buy the soundtrack. Worth the time and money.
makes me want to dance .......2007-05-07
I really enjoyed the CD, the musical selection is great and it seems very authentic.
Enjoy!.......2006-12-30
I purchased this CD after seeing the movie. The music is enjoyable to listen to and passionate as I would think Frida was. I purchased this CD a second time to give to a female Hispanic artist who identifies with the trials and tribulations of Frida. This artist now paints while listening to this CD. Her artwork not only has improved but has become popular. I defiantly recommend its purchase.
FRIDA would be proud.......2006-10-20
Simply perfection. Each song will move you. I dont really even understand Spanish ( only simple conversational Spanish) and it strums my every emotion. I just LOVE it!

Donnie Darko.......2007-07-03
I was drawn to buy this CD because of hearing Michael's arrangement and Gary Jules rendition of "Mad World" which was originally recorded by Tears for Fears way back when. I glad I did. The music was written as the underscore for a Science Fiction movie by the same name and now I really want to see this film. The music is other worldly, ethereal and strange in a good way!
just wanted "mad world".......2007-01-09
loved the mad world track from the Gears of War video game. was hoping the rest of the album was as cool, but it is all instrumentals. a little disappointing, i must admit.
Gary Jules' remake of Mad World is superb!.......2007-01-06
Gary Jules' remake of this great past favorite (Mad World) is superb! The accompanying tracks on this album are not my style, but I didn't buy this for the other tracks. For that I feel this score is quite impressive.
Liked only one cut.......2007-01-04
I bought this CD for the song "Mad World". Unfortunately it was the only one I liked, but I've spent more money on dumber things.
Atmospheric and all-around cool........2006-06-05
Michael Andrews is one of today's best composers. His score for the little-known sci-fi flick "Cypher" was brilliant, and although his music in Donnie Darko is never quite as good (after all, DD was one of his first real scoring jobs), it is a somber, weird, sometimes beautiful album.
Andrews uses many bizarre non-musical instruments and female vocals to great effect, and creates an ambient, sad world that works regardless of your having seen the film.
His song "Mad World" is one of the saddest and most beautiful songs I've ever heard.
The disk isn't very long--just a little over thirty-seven minutes as I recall. But definitely recommended.

it wasn't very good..........2005-05-14
I personally didn't like it, just my opinion. I don't usually buy soundtracks but the music on this one wasn't very good!
TERRIBLE!.......2005-05-14
OMG, this is really not a very good CD... why would you want to buy a soundtrack for a horror movie anyway? and listen to people talk on it... honestly! It's really a pointless CD and a waste of money!
David Hess is NOT on this CD!.......2005-01-28
A search for David Hess turned up this CD, which he is NOT on. David contributed SIX songs to the Cabin Fever Soundtrack, including the closing credits. Do not buy this CD if you are expecting to hear David Hess music from the film, those songs are available separately from David Hess at his own .com
Awesom Stuff.......2003-09-19
The Cabin Fever soundtrack captures all the fun and insanity that makes the movie such a riot to watch. The soundtrack features a few cool songs from the movie (The Turtleneck's song is hilarious) as well as some well placed dialogue cuts, but for the most part this soundtrack is a show piece for Nathan Barr and Angeleo Badalamenti. Nathan's tracks are great mood pieces that work great with the film and would make great Holloween music if you need some for a haunted house. As far as Angelo's work goes...it's awesome. His stuff is more subtle than Nathan's work and its adds a nice contrast to the other tracks. Some tracks feel like they came straight out of Twin Peaks. Great stuff! I highly recommend this soundtrack!!

Guaranteed to get you dancing.......2007-01-14
If you're looking to work off a few extra pounds in the New Year or just to start dancing, then this CD is for you. I would have given it five stars across the board if it were not for the absence of
Louis Prima's "Sing, Sing, Sing" and the rendition of "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy" by the Andrews Sisters, which was not the one heard in the epic production of "Burn the Floor." Having said that, everything else on the CD is winner. The 30's Section Medley: Cheek To Cheek..Let Yourself Go..Top Hat, White Tie And Tails by The London Musicians Orchestra is a keeper. Perfect for brushing up on your waltz technique, it's original and quite infectious.
The swing selections are powerful and unless you don't have a pulse, your toes will be tapping right away. It's all leading up to the huge finale of the show "Hot..Would You Dance With Me" done with sparkling brilliance by the London Musicians Orchestra. It's been eight years since the birth of Ballroom for the 21st Century and I still can't get enough of this music. Those in Australia, Burn the Floor's World Tour kicks off on 23, February 2007 at the Canberra Theatre. The new revamped production by Jason Gillikson who was so instrumental in the debut of Burn the Floor is all new and well worth the flatter. This performance will be video taped. ENJOY!
CD gets returned tomorrow.......2000-05-20
I recently purchased the DVD version of Burn the Floor. Fantastic! The music was captivating. When I realized that I could also enjoy the music on CD I ran out and bought it. BIG DISAPPOINTMENT! If you enjoyed the classic Louis Prima SING SING SING number on the DVD, you're going to be be very surprised to not find it on the CD. Likewise, why was the Andrews Sisters version of Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy used on the CD? It was too slow, sounded too dated and I kept wondering if my CD player was operating at the wrong speed. Horrible! Okay, I can accept having numbers on the CD that weren't on the DVD but at least give me the songs that inspired me to buy it originally. It goes back to the store for return tomorrow.
Gonna Buy It!.......2000-04-04
I saw this on TV and was awwed. I am definately going to purchase this as soon as pay day arrives. It has every kind of music for anybody to enjoy.. this should be in every cd collection..
Dancer Rates Burn The Floor.......2000-03-26
Being a professional dancer as well as a teacher and having seen hundreds of musicals, I must say I rate this as "one of the best". The dancers are fantastic! the music utterly great, The choice of dances (from classical to rock) is highly deversified. CAN'T WAIT TILL I GET IT SO I CAN PLAY IT AGAIN AND AGAIN. AS WELL AS "ROCK THE HOUSE, SHAKE MY BOOTIE, ETC"
As good as the show.......2000-03-25
If you have seen the TV video or the live show, you must have the CD to keep your toes tapping. Incidently, the shows, unlike Riverdance, vary from performance to performance.

A fun CD but not all inclusive.......2007-01-02
Of the 45 dances presented during Burn the Floor, this CD covers perhaps one-eighth of the material. What is included is well worth the flatter but it leaves you wishing for more. Favorite tracks that are sure to get you out of your seat and dancing quickly are the memorable tunes by the group Touch and Go "Dance With Me" and "So Hot" which is heard near the finale of this epic production. If you love ballroom dancing, buy the DVD. Burn the Floor is Ballroom for the 21st century. What is completely awe inspiring is how the choreographer assembled these dancers from all over the world who were once competitors on the ballroom circuit to function as a team in just a matter of a few months time.
Burn the Floor opens with a graceful waltz and transitions into an edgy new age number. From there, the audience is immediately swept back in time to the 1940's for the swing sequences that had everyone jumpin' for jive. Check out the ladies dresses here, it's a first. Nothing is left out: paso doble, cha-cha-cha, tango, samba and the ending has to be seen to be believed. Yes, it's that good. Bravo, Burn the Floor cast and crew.
The costumes, set design and lighting are all top notch and this music stays with you long after the show has ended. I would have given the CD a higher rating if not for the missing selections.
A wonderful New Years resolution, get hot and Burn the Floor. Happy 2007!

It's not the good kind of keyboard!.......2005-01-12
Okay, if you are a Richard Band fan, then you probably want this score. But I urge you not to get it. It's awful. It's all synthesized. Which is not a bad thing, but in this case it certainly is. Unless this was selling for 50 cents I would not pick it up. A good kind of synthesized score would be like Terminator 2 or The Killing Fields or John Carpenters music, but this basically is nothing but ambient. None of the music takes any kind of form or shape. It just floats there without going places. There's no discernable movement of any kind. So trust me, I got it for a dollar used somewhere, and I would sell it if I thought I could get anything for it.
