5 out of 5 stars Wonderful CD! <3.......2003-01-31

I'm a major fan of Yoko Kanno, and although this is one of her earlier works, Macross Plus OST 2 is one of her very best ever. For the complete Kanno newbie, there's the joy in discovering all the various styles of music on this CD, and let me say that there are as many styles as there are tracks. For more experienced Kanno fans, it's worth buying this to see some very early examples of themes and styles that she used later (for example, some of the songs wouldn't sound out of place in Cowboy Bebop). There are no tracks that aren't wonderful on this CD. If you want a CD unlike anything else on the market at a highly reasonable price, get Macross Plus OST 2. You don't even have to have seen Macross Plus to like this; I haven't seen it and this is still one of my favorite CDs ever.

5 out of 5 stars Now THIS is music........2002-11-30

Wow. This soundtrack is absolutely fantastic. I bought this CD about a year ago at the local Suncoast, and I was immediately hooked. I mean, I have several anime soundtracks, from Blue Seed to Ah! Megami-sama, and even Fushigi Yugi. But, I have to say, this is one of the few CDs that I can listen to all the way through, and still be satisfied. The songs are magnificent. From French to Japanese, and even English, the vocal songs are mellow and harmonic. They are quite beautiful. Even the songs without words, which I usually skip when it comes to anime soundtracks, are amazing. They combine music from practically every race and culture. African, American, Chinese, Japanese, it's all here! Even classical and modern are combined. So, basically, I would definately recommend this CD to anyone who does not want to just waste their money on a CD with one or two good songs. If I had to sum up this CD in one word, it would definately be "masterpiece". So buy this CD! ^-^

5 out of 5 stars I was blown away by the music of Sharon Apple!!.......1999-05-17

While the Macross Plus movies themselves are amazing, the soundtrack is what really got me hooked! I found myself singing the songs days after I had watched the movies. It's blend of seductive techno, ethnic chanting and all around beat amazed me from the beginning. This is definately one of the best Anime soundtracks out there!

5 out of 5 stars Great music for any anime lover out there.......1999-03-06

One of the best anime soundtracks Ive ever listend to.A great mix of most of the music from the movie. Even if you havent seen the movie and you like anime music you love this cd. Definatly a must buy for any true anime collectors shelf.

Sharon Apple is currently my favorite singer. She maybe a little crazy but she's really great. I must for Macross Plus fans.

5 out of 5 stars The best of Macross II.......2001-10-05

Well, I have to say that this is an excellent CD, if you are a Macross Fan is "a must".

An explanation must be given this CD contains the very first soundtrack, as it appears in the OVA's. So if you expect to find songs like "Promise (Yakusoko)" or others sung by Ishtar you should buy the Volume II.
Here we have songs sang by Wendy and the opening and closing songs. Also Minmei attack song.

Buy it, you won't regret it...

5 out of 5 stars Macross II may not have been the best, but the soundtrack is.......1999-06-19

Macross II wasn't the best movie in the "Macross" series and was considered a failure in most circles. It was the first anime I ever saw, so it was great to me. (In retrospect, there's better ones, but I digress). The soundtrack is fantastic though, with 19 tracts and 5 songs, each great ones to hear while your driving at 75 on the freeway (Not that i do, mind you). Worth the money to import, a MUST HAVE for japanese music fans!

OK, I may say.

What really makes this CD worth is that Ishtar's songs are here.

The soundtrack score isn't as good as the one that is in Volume I

I must say that if you have Macross Song Collection, you have the best of this CD, so this CD is only for real fans...

This is an awesome CD with a plethora of wonderful, true to the heart, mind, body, and soul music that wisks you away into the story. The song "your only friend" is a song that is dear to me because my girlfriend and I have danced the night away to this song.

5 out of 5 stars Now I have heard it..........2002-04-18

This is a good CD. But it is for a Macross Plus Fan, who will enjoy it and feel the upwelling of emotion caused by the movie in every string of music. However, your average listener, who knows not the world of Macross, may not understand the deep appeal we fans see in this. Many of the tracks will be wasted on you because they are just plain weird or boring. The seemingly lackadistical mix of symphony and techno will have you scratching your heads. Some of you may even feel jyped because there are about 6 "good" songs on the CD and that is it. We, the fans know otherwise but until you join our exclusive group...This may not be the CD you are looking for...

5 out of 5 stars Amazingly Diverse...Instantly Refreshing.......2001-04-28

As a Robotech fan who has since become interested in Macross, I've never been more intrigued or satisfied with a purchase such as this one. Every track on this album represents something different; there is absolutely nothing "generic" about any of the songs that appear here.

My favorites are:

1) Idol Talk: I love this song. It's the one played during the preparations for Sharon Apple's concert. It sounds like the sonic embodiment of 'electronic decadence'. This song is great! Very late 80s though...

2) Jade: Very playful - it actually sounds like a Prince instrumental jam at Paisley Park. It has whistling, lively drums, and a great guitar.

3) Nomad Soul: This is a frantic saxophone solo. Love it.

5) Go Ri A Te: Excellent. This is a percussive piece that mixes acoustic drums (from a variety of cultures) with synthezized instruments. Incredible - one of my favorites.

7) Pulse: Ohmigawd. This song is trance-like (with a pretty female voice singing), and if you like anything by Deep Forest, you will love this. Very ambient. Probably the best song on the whole album.

8) 3cm: A very mellow saxophone-lead jazz song. It's great to calm down to this track - will cure any 'road rage' you might feel when you're driving down a busy strecth - guaranteed.of freeway

9) Voices: This is the piano/vocal version of the Macross Plus theme song. Beautiful...

10) Pu Qua O: This is a mellow jazz piece - the piano takes the forefrunt here.

11) Sweet Feather: Love this song...it's the one played when Myung falls asleep and Guld ends up saving her. Very suspenseful, love the xylophone!

12) A Sai En: This is by far the creepiest anime song I have ever heard; it makes my skin crawl. This was the song played when Sharon Apple "possessed" the Macross.

13) Bad Dog: This piece is VERY interesting. It's a bunch of guys making percussive noises with their voices, and screaming and making all kinds of weird sounds, but it works. I like this one a lot.

Lastly, you don't need to be an anime or Macross fan to enjoy this soundtrack. All you need is an open ear, and a love for music in all of its forms. This album is simply fantastic. Go get it!

4 out of 5 stars I Was Surprised How Good It Is!.......2001-02-06

I picked this up in the used CD section of a local store because I liked the cover art (I have never even seen the movie!). Well, I'm glad I did because the music is surprisingly good. It has a wide mixture of styles all mixed with a Japanese flair, and the woman's voice on several of the tracks is very beautiful. My faves are Pulse, Go Ri A Te, Voices, A Sai En and Sweet Feather.

5 out of 5 stars A wonderful work of genius!.......2001-01-17

It's amazing that Yoko Kanno can compose such lyrical and profound music across so many varied and contrastingly different genres! Jazz, pop, techno, ballads, and classical beats combine to make this a rare and all-encompassing soundtrack. The music truly defines and characterizes the atmosphere and mood of the movie, and does so in a both entertaining and emotive way. The song "Voices" is a beautiful and stylistically simplistic motif for the movie, as well as one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard. True afficionados of music will appreciate the genius and variety of this soundtrack!

5 out of 5 stars Genius in the making.......2000-12-05

It is not usual that you can hear the work of a genius playing into your ears. If you own this CD, you will have this rare chance.

You see, Ms Kanno is truly a genius in working music. She was never formally trained, yet she was and is still churning out numerous pieces that never fail to amaze her followers.[1] She can compose in various genres, from techno to classical, Jazz to J-pop, and everything in-between.

In this album, according to conductor Anthony Inglis, which conducted the soundtrack, Ms Kanno had her first experience of working with a orchestra. However, the classical pieces that you can get in the album is absolutely astounding.[2] At the same time, she has some of the most amazing techno music ever graced an animated TV show. There are even evidence that she had sang several songs in the series.[3]

If you are serious about what you want on a soundtrack, don't hesitate. Pick this CD up right now. Even if you are no avid fan of Japan animation, give it a try. You will not be disappointed.

[1] Ms Kanno stated her lack of formal training in [an] interview by Egan Loo of the online anime magazine EX.

[2] This was stated in an interview of Anthony Inglis by Oliver Barder.

[3] This speculation was based on an article from the website "Tenkuu of Yoko Kanno".
