Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Great Mark Isham score.......2004-09-11

The soundtrack is great. Although it does not contain all the music from the movie, it is still worth buying for the opening theme (act I).

4 out of 5 stars Don't let my rating dissuade you........2000-08-26

If this CD were anything except a movie soundtrack, it might be called "Timecop Lite" since Mark Isham, who wrote this score in 1995, wrote "Timecop" the previous year. If you're listening to "The Net" for the first time and you're an experienced film music explorer, you might get the sense that Isham is falling into the James Horner ("Braveheart", "Titanic", et. al.) pitfall of "quoting" older scores into new ones. (The pounding "Timecop" drums feature prominently here.) But that isn't the case. The action scenes and musical cues in "The Net" are not as heavy as those of "Timecop".

The Net disc is not the entire score as heard in the film; rather, it is a four track series of short suites, labeled Acts I-IV. A breakdown would look something like this (descriptions mine):

Act I: Main Titles/Secretary Shooting

Act II: Angela meets Jack in Mexico/Informant Shooting/Romantic Cruise/"I'm Captain America Meets Albert Schweitzer"/Angela's escape from the boat

Act III: Angela's imprisonment

Act IV: Final confrontations

As with the last two CD's I've reviewed, "The Net" is only 30 minutes long and is missing a lot of music (such as everything after Angela's escape from Mexico and before her imprisonment), but if you like "The Net" as a movie it shouldn't be a problem. It's still worth your while to get it.
