Admit it: If you had to pick an artist to give voice to the wackadoo thinkings of a monkey beloved by most of the American populace over age 3, you could do a lot worse than Jack Johnson. Black Eyed Peas? Too hyper. Death Cab for Cutie? Too ironic. They Might Be Giants? Too eggheaded. Johnson, though the object of much rightful jealousy--here, after all, is a guy who only stumbled into music and vaulted himself up the charts after a successful career as a pro surfer--turns out to have the goods to do H.A. Rey, Curious George's creator, proud. Fans familiar with Johnson's earlier discs will recognize a certain laconic sprawl and easy fascination in his songs that suits the theme of perpetual puzzlement perfectly (here, let's not forget, is a guy who racked up fans with songs called "Bubble Toes" and "Banana Pancakes"). That the music takes a childish turn barely registers--songs like opener "Upside Down" are classic Johnson, all wonderment and groove, and the collaborations with friends Ben Harper, G. Love, and Matt Costa warm up, wink, and scamper off before packing on the weight of excess meaning. "We're Going to Be Friends," track seven, seals the deal--when you can make the White Stripes sound compatible with the Man with the Yellow Hat, you know you've got a multi-generational winner. --Tammy La Gorce
Description
Faced with the task of giving a voice to a central character that does not speak, Universal Pictures turned to Jack Johnson to craft songs that could provide a voice for Curious George. As a new father, it gave him the opportunity to make an album for both parents and children. Presented with early animations and the story line, Jack crafted new songs that capture the emotions of Curious George as he leaves the jungle to follow the Man with the Yellow Hat. He also turned to friends Ben Harper, G. Love, and Matt Costa to contribute songs that might bridge the gap between parent and child. Joined on the record by his band (Adam Topol, Merlo Podlewski, and Zack Gill), Jack duets with three of the other songwriters (Ben Harper, G. Love, and Matt Costa), and does a cover of the White Stripes' "We're Going to Be Friends." Parents who watched Schoolhouse Rock on Saturday mornings when they were children will recognize Jack's take on the classic "Three Is a Magic Number," reinterpreted with the 3 R's as a call to protect the environment and Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle. Sing-a-Longs and Lullabies feels like so much more than your standard soundtrack due to its unified creative vision. While the songs have a universal appeal, their themes speak to a child's experience (or in this case, a curious monkey's experience) of the world.

Curious George CD.......2007-06-09
CD arrived in good shape but it is not at all what I thought it would be. This is not a sing-along CD. It seems to be misrepresenting itself with such a title. Not impressed or satisfied with this CD. It was reviewed to be something different. It's simply music by Jack Johnson which tends to be very slow.
Great kid music.......2007-06-01
My daughter loves this soundtrack and sings along. Very kid friendly and teaches kids how to protect the environment. Jack Johnson is wonderful.
Feel good music.......2007-05-27
After seeing Curious George and then watching the music video in the Special Features, we had to get this soundtrack. My children will often go to sleep to it and then I turn it on softly when it is time to wake up. My children love learning the lyrics and singing along.
GREAT CD!!!.......2007-05-07
The title says it all. It's fun for the kids and really enjoyable for hte adults as well.
Jack Johnson a man for all ages...........2007-05-02
This CD is bright and shiny....the girls I babysit for are 10 and 5yrs of age they love it and so do I. Also, good lessons learned with Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.....something all of us need to do! A+ Jack!

There are thousands upon thousands of children's albums out there, but the one that quietly left its mark with more '70s children than perhaps any other album was this disc. Free to Be...You and Me was a pet project of proud feminist Marlo Thomas (a.k.a. "That Girl"), and it was born--according to the liner notes--by the desire to provide her niece with music "to celebrate who she was and who she could be." Harry Belafonte sings "Parents Are People," ex-football great Rosie Grier offers an incredible, touching melody titled "It's All Right to Cry," and Diana Ross waxes future-positive on "When We Grow Up." A great hour of brain food for young--and not-so-young--children. --Denise Sheppard
Customer Reviews:
Okay but definately 70's sounding.......2007-07-10
I remembered this from childhood so I bought it. It's okay but you don't want to listen to it over & over, the songs and skits get irksome after the first run through. Not actually all songs, some short skits - a lot to do with gender equality wich is good but not alltogether entertaining... I prefer Billy Jonas - What Kind of Cat Are You!!!
Oldie but a Goodie.......2007-06-27
This title was great when my children were children; now they're adults with children of their own, and it's still great. We keep it in the player in the car for when the grandkids ride with us along with Peter, Paul and Mommy and Peter, Paul, and Mommy Too. The grandkids enjoy it just as much as our kids did.
I still remember all the words.......2007-05-24
Every time I hear these songs, it takes me back to my very first Fisher Price record player! I can still sing along with every song. My husband thinks the collection is a bit cheesey, and he is probably right. But that never stopped me from loving the best memories of my childhood. We are buying the collection for our children for sure!
Still fresh and new.......2007-05-12
Not literally fresh and new, perhaps, but thirty years ago when I was first listening to this on vinyl, I never would have imagined that the message would still be essential in the 21st century. I've been buying copies for the kids of all my friends and relatives, because I hope that the more people listen to this growing up, the more likely that eventually we'll live in a world where this CD isn't needed.
Still great after all these years! .......2007-03-14
An early birthday gift for my daughter (to be nine in April '07) - she can't get enough of this CD! After one listen, she was quoting bits and bites and getting up to hit "repeat" on the CD player. Cool.
My sister and I loved it as kids and though it's a teeny bit dated, the messages are sound, clear, and still 'work' today. The comedy is great for all ages(who can beat Mel Brooks and Alan Alda?)
So, my review says: get it! Listen ofen! And give it to someone you love!

Customer Reviews:
my niece loved it!.......2007-06-28
Bought as a gift for my 4-year old niece for her birthday, this CD stays in my car for her use when I'm driving. She loves it and asks for individual princesses and we sing along. I don't know how many times we've listened to it already (4 or 5, I imagine), but I anticipate many more. It's a heck of a lot easier than trying to remember the words on my own. :)
A Perfect Princess CD.......2007-03-30
I want to start off by saying that if you're looking to buy only one Disney Princess CD, this is the one to get. This CD contains 12 tracks featuring 7 princesses (at the time that this CD was made, Mulan did not yet exist, in fact, the Disney Princess line itself did not exist). Unlike many other Disney Princess CDs, this one contains a *complete* collection of princess songs. That means that all the songs that any Princess actually sings is on this CD. No, not every song from every Princess movie is on here, but I wouldn't expect them to be, nor do I think that they'd even fit onto this CD. Something that's nice about this CD compared to some of the other Disney Princess CDs is that there is no subversive advertising. That means no mediocre songs from Cinderella V or the Little Mermaid X are on it. There aren't even any songs sung by non-Princesses, all the songs that are sung partly by others are at least partially sung by a Princess as well. One of the most interesting things about the album, in my opinion, is that it contains 'Home' by Susan Egan as Belle. In Beauty and the Beast, Belle has no large solo songs of her own, so they included this track from the original 1994 cast recording of the Beauty and the Beast Broadway musical. This addition makes the CD more interesting and does not at all detract from the quality of the CD.
Again, if you are looking to buy only one Disney Princess CD or just find the best one, I would encourage you to buy this one. The selection of songs is complete and there isn't any annoying, mediocre album filler. I highly recommend this Disney Princess CD.
LOVE IT!!!.......2007-01-05
Bought this CD for Christmas for my 5 year old and we love it!! A great buy!!!!!
my favorite princess cd .......2005-01-15
i love this cd! my dad got it for me for my birthday 3 years ago and i still love it
Perfect for a Princess.......2004-08-24
I bought this cd for my daughter's 3rd birthday. She LOVES it! She asks me to play it every day and we both sing along to all of the songs. She has even picked up on the songs that she didn't know before she received it. I love it because now she is more interested in listening to the cd and dancing with me in the house than watching a video. In quiet times, she likes to sit on my lap and look at the pictures in the liner notes. The recordings are beautiful, it is the one children's cd that I can listen to over and over. If you have a little girl who loves princesses, this is definitely worth the money.

My 3 yr old got this for Christmas and absolutely loves it. We dance to it all the time. I went to workout the other day to find it was in player instead of my normal workout CD...and already into my workout decided to keep going. It was GREAT to workout to. Very energetic like the show and good for variety in my workout. I may have to get a second one for me!!

A must have!!.......2007-01-03
Our daughter loved Barney for quite awhile so we purchased both Volume 1 and 2 of Barney's Favorites. We leave Volume 1 in the Car and Volume 2 in the house. Although she has now moved on to watching Elmo she still loves her Barney CD's and we don't go in the car without it. She is 19 months old now and this is the only thing that will appease her on a long car ride. She even sings along herself now.
Great CD.......2006-03-11
If your kids like Barney, they will like this CD - it's full of his favorites!
Fun.......2005-10-06
Of all the young children's music we've heard, this cd far surpasses all the others in choice of songs, vocals (with both Barney and kids, afterall, kids love to hear other kids sing), and sound quality. It's quite addictive-- you'll find yourself singing those songs. It's worth getting.
Great!!.......2005-09-30
I got this for my sister for her birthday and I was a little worried that it wouldn't arrive in time for her party, but she got it so fast and it was in perfect condition. I was very pleased!
Very good CD for preschool children.......2005-01-28
I am a teacher's asst, and my teacher uses this cd everyday for learning days of the week, for clean up time, and for a special "pick-a-song" session everyday. The kids absolutely love every song and they eventually learn to sing the words to them. What makes this invaluable is, some of the kids that I work have speech difficulties, but they try to sing with Barney anyway. It is a great way for them to learn how to start speaking. I highly recommend this cd. In addition, kids are more likely to enjoy cleaning up to a fun song than to their parent's monotonous commands!

The soundtrack to 2003's Piglet's Big Movie, from which Heffalumps borrows a couple of songs, played like a well-kept secret: Instead of stuttering along with Tigger and the gang, grown-ups got to match vocals with Carly Simon, who lent the bulk of the songs baby-blanket warmth and appeal. On this sequel soundtrack for which she was wisely recruited, she appears as honey-voiced as ever, coaxing a grown-up caliber performance out of a kids' orchestra on "Shoulder to Shoulder" and getting down to the kiddy nitty-gritty of "In the Name of the Hundred Acre Wood/What Do You Do?" Though Simon's sweet-natured contributions account for only around half the disc, with the other half returning us to fluffy Pooh staples, the energy expended on a bouncy-flouncy fun-fun-fun slog through "The Wonderful Thing About Tiggers" is well worth it. At home harmonizing rarely gets this good. --Tammy La Gorce
Customer Reviews:
We Love Heffalumps!.......2007-01-18
My 2 year old loves this CD, and constantly asks me to play it in the car. Songs 1-7 are from Pooh's Heffalump Movie and Piglet's Big Movie, and include a lot of the favorites from the film. There are tons of songs by Carly Simon, and we are constantly humming and singing them. It's a catchy bunch of tunes that I'd highly recommend. There are also some older classics to sing along to.
We all love it!.......2007-01-12
Half of the CD is Carly Simon recordings of Winnie the Pooh music, and the other half are old favorites from Winnie the Pooh. My kids love the songs, and so do I! My boys go around the house sometimes singing the songs, even when we haven't listened to the music for a while. So much fun!
Excellent collection for toddlers and parents.......2005-11-12
I would recommend this collection for anyone with toddlers who enjoy the pooh movies. It has all the catchy favorites mentioned, as well as the song luv-a-bye which I don't recognize from any of the pooh movies- and ultimately may be the best song for parents on the cd and a really nice lullabye that describes every parents wish to their kids as they put them to bed.
Best Pooh's Compilation Album.......2005-10-04
This is a wonderful compilation album featuring songs from "Pooh's Heffalump Movie," "Piglet's Big Movie" and the classic "The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh."
I bought this for my two-year-old after buying "Pooh's Heffalump Movie." We especially like "The Name Game" (or "The Lumpy Song," as my daughter calls it) and "With a Few Good Friends." I like "Luv-a-Bye" as well, which is sweet and thoroughly singable -- I caught myself singing it alound in my office lunchroom last week!
Carly Simon's sweet, simplistic voice is perfect for the Pooh-related movies, and makes wearing out an album -- like we're doing -- "bear"able!
With a Few Good Friends / What Do You Do?.......2005-09-30
"The Best of Pooh & Heffalumps, Too" is sort of the official soundtrack for "Pooh's Heffalump Movie," but it also includes a great selection of songs from past movies and classics as well, some heffalump-related, some not.
The immediate stand-out of this album is "Shoulder to Shoulder," a wonderful, triumphant, cheerful track about the friendship that forms between Roo and the new Lumpy character from "Pooh's Heffalump Movie." Powerful music, strong vocals and great lyrics. It's been described as the "emotional high-point" of the movie and I couldn't agree more.
Some of the songs are very catchy and tend to get stuck in your head. "In the Name of the Hundred Acre Wood / What Do You Do?" is one of these --- it's the song that was used in the closing credits for "Pooh's Heffalump Movie." 'What do you do? / When something new / Crosses your path out of the blue...' very good stuff. Another good track is "With a Few Good Friends," from "Piglet's Big Movie."
Classics include the "Winnie the Pooh" theme (original version and version from "Piglet's Big Movie"), "Rumbly in My Tumbly" and "Little Black Raincloud." The total CD length is only about a half-hour, but the songs are so good, that it feels like it goes on pleasantly longer. And of course, you'll find it hard put to listen to it just once (or even just a few times.)

A winning combination of a talented cast, appealing music and lyrics by Robert and Willie Reale, and Arnold Lobel's classic children's books made A Year with Frog and Toad a Broadway success that earned 2004 Tony nominations for best musical, best book, and best original score. The brainchild of Adrianne Lobel (the author's daughter and a veteran stage designer) and the Reale Brothers, Frog and Toad was originally produced at The Children's Theater of Minneapolis, turning Lobel's stories into entertaining vignettes starring the titular amphibians (played by Jay Goede and Mark Linn-Baker, Adrianne Lobel's husband) and colored by jazzy '30s-style music. "The Kite," for example, is an energetic Charleston, "He'll Never Know" is a soft shoe, and "Seeds" illustrates Toad's gentle love of plant life in a lyric ballad. This recording captures the original cast from Minneapolis (which transferred intact to Broadway, except Jennifer Gambatese replaced Kate Reinders as one of the birds) and adds an attractive 32-page booklet filled with photos, lyrics, and notes by Adrianne Lobel and the Reales. A Year with Frog and Toad deserves a long life in the repertory of children's theater alongside such fare as You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown. --David Horiuchi

Old School Fun!.......2007-05-26
We just love this family CD. The songs are so much fun... Even I find myself lost in imagination as I listen to these songs - It reminds me of simpler times when a book is all you needed for entertainment. A must for Frog & Toad lovers!!!!
A Must Have for Anyone with Kids!!.......2007-05-23
We've seen the musical twice now and would love to see it again. The songs are catchy, clever and cute. The characters are wonderful and richly developed. The songs go along perfectly with the stories if you have the book (if you don't you should get it). This is fun for our kids and I like it too!
Absolutely delightful!
What Friendship Means.......2007-01-15
This is a delightful musical designed to appeal to children of all ages. (I'm 65 and found it magical!) Although I sure it's better to see the show than just hear it, this cast recording captures the energy of the show quite well. Most importantly, the valuable message of the show comes through very well on this recording. The message of the show is to answer the important question: "What is friendship?" Frog and Toad teach us the true meaning of this wonderful word in a way that is fun to hear!!
We really enjoy this CD.......2007-01-10
My daughter saw the play, my son did not. But both of them are singing along with this CD all the time! It's very fun music.
Saw the show at the Children's Theatre Company in Minneapolis.......2006-11-20
I am about to order my third copy of this disk. I have two boys, ages 11 and 7, and theater-going is the one art-y activity I can get them to do. We are ardent Children's Theatre Company fans, and this is one of our favorites. Even their dad- who doesn't usually accompany us to the theater, LOVES this disk. (Now, if we could only quit wrecking it up!)
The book is based on the Arnold Lobel books. Interesting facts: His daughter and inspiration, Adrienne, was twice involved with the production. First-wise as the set designer, secondly as real-life wife to cast-member Mark Linn-Baker (Toad, also seen on TV in Perfect Strangers, and in the very enjoyable movie My Favorite Year).
All the cast is simply wonderful. The lyrics and music are so much fun. You'll be singing along before you know it!
Highly recommended - you don't need to see the show to *love* this music.

While not overly generous at 55 minutes, the highlights album of the 1987 original Broadway cast recording of Les Miserables is intelligently selected and likely to prove satisfying to most fans. It includes the best-loved numbers of Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schönberg's score, beautiful ballads ("Bring Him Home," "I Dreamed a Dream") and rousing anthems ("One Day More," "Do You Hear the People Sing?") alike, but eliminates some choral numbers ("Lovely Ladies"), redundancies ("Red and Black"), and connective tissue that propels the plot along ("Valjean Arrested," "Come to Me (Fantine's Death)"). Sure, a more perfect selection could have lasted longer than half of the two-disc set's 104 minutes by adding "At the End of the Day" and "In My Life," among others, but it's still a good representation on a convenient single disc. Of course, those who always want to re-create the theatrical experience will never be satisfied with a highlights album.
Re-creating their roles from the London production, Colm Wilkinson plays the heroic Valjean and Frances Ruffelle is the despondent Eponine. Randy Graff (Fantine), Terrence Mann (Javert), David Bryant (Marius), Judy Kuhn (Cosette), Michael Maguire (Enjolras), and Leo Burmester and Jennifer Butt (the Thénardiers) fill out the cast. --David Horiuchi

BEST OPERA MUSIC EVER.......2006-11-03
This is the BEST!! I would highly recommend this to anyone who likes this kind of music!
Time well spent........2005-09-14
Each member of the Les Miserables cast stands to deliver this musical to its audience. Within moments we are transported to France during their Restoration. We experience sadness, laughter and, indeed, want to join in their crusade. The music and deliverance, in my opinion, is excellent.
Great Score, But Highlights Missing Critical Songs.......2005-08-05
Composers Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schönberg's score for "Les Miserables" is simply brilliant and the spectacular Broadway cast, led by Colm Wilkinson, Randy Graff, Terrence Mann, and Frances Ruffelle, help bring this incredible music to life!
While I normally enjoy "highlight" cds, this one clocks in at a mere 55 minutes and could have easily included a couple of additional tunes (thus losing one star). Most notably missing: "At The End Of The Day", "Come To Me", "Red And Black", and "In My Life". The show's most memorable songs, however, are included.
Best tracks:
I Dreamed A Dream
Master Of The House
Stars
Do You Hear The People Sing
On My Own
A Little Fall Of Rain
Bring Him Home
Empty Chairs At Empty Tables
Great cast, great score ... even a good buy. But I would suggest the full double-disc score instead.
Buy the full version, please.......2005-01-20
Highlights are never worth it. You will never get the little in-between songs which make a show complete, montages will be cut together badly instead of being full songs as they should be...so much is left out. This is a fantastic show and deserves to be heard in full.
Argh Matey!.......2004-11-22
"Highlights" albums are not the full show, blah blah blah... THIS TAKES UP ONLY ONE SPACE IN YOUR CD RACK INSTEAD OF TWO LIKE THE FULL RECORDING. I rest my case.

Amazing........2007-07-12
one of my favorite soundtracks and movies. the music is enchanting and takes you to a place far away from the worries of this world. it is filled with love, hope, and the mysteries of imagination. buy this album and experience the power of music.
This Just Soars.......2007-04-08
It's no surprise that Disney is now using this recording's main theme to market its theme parks, because there has rarely been music that so gorgeously suggests the rapture of flight as a child imagines it. The entire score is by turns charming and exciting, and stands well on its own (it's terrific for long road trips, with its movement and color). A wonderful score to a wonderful film....
Good instruments sound affect........2007-01-10
Me and my daughter enjoy the cd, but the only thing was wrong i assume the cd was going to sing word instead of instrument maybe the cd will be available soon. I'm preparing the song through out the peterpan movie.
Soaring score.......2007-01-06
I saw this movie when it came out. Immediately afterward, I went to the store to get it--had to wait three weeks for it to come in, but it was totally worth it. I listened to nothing but this and the Wicked soundtrack for months. The music is so beautiful and moving--I still listen to it all the time because it's both soothing and uplifting. And it has definitely appeared on the recent Disney commercials! I was so excited when I heard it. :)
most underrated movie.......2006-12-26
Not only was this the most underrated movie of the year, but the soundtrack is now being used by Disney for their theme park commercials (and it wasnt even a Disney movie, it was Universal/ Columbia no less)
