Welcome to Collinwood [Soundtrack]
Editorial Reviews

Cleveland, Ohio's real-life Collinwood area is a working-class melting pot of ethnic diversity. Just as varied are the cinematic themes for the hapless fictional criminals inhabiting its streets in Welcome to Collinwood. Scored by Mark Mothersbaugh, with Ohio roots himself as a founder of Devo, the soundtrack favors a wide range of jazz moods. Piano and upright bass race each other wildly on "He Needs a Mullinski" and "Meet Leon," while the lively violins on "Know a Safecracker?" and "Too Much Red" mince like a slapstick crook chase. The trumpet and drum syncopation on "Pipe Dance" conjures thugs dancing around a fight à la West Side Story; "Cosimo Escapes" references the classic "Sing, Sing, Sing"; and "Swagger Theme" contains rich saxophones and booming trombones that ooze debonair cool. Non-Mothersbaugh tracks are just as evocative: two smooth pop standards by Paolo Conte and "You and Me," a blowsy polka. Authentically capturing the flavor and tone of Swing Era jazz with silly and lighthearted style, Collinwood is an all-too-short, delightful romp. --Annie Zaleski
