Interstellar travel in your headphones........2007-05-31
Well, Stargate SG.1 has finally ended after 10 seasons, and this soundtrack CD covers only the first two. I think there's room for a new CD or two, and hopefully the Stargate SG.1 people will get around to creating one.
Anyway, I've listened to this CD once so far and I was very impressed. The music really is enjoyable on its own, and I found myself listening to the Cold Lazerus music twice before I continued throught the rest of the CD.
Finally, don't think there isn't much music on this CD because of the small nunber of tracks. Many of these tracks are six to ten minutes long.
Stargate Music Album.......2007-05-12
Great CD throughout. It's a shame the show is being cancelled after 10 years but this music helps to keep the memory on.
Not as good as the 1st Music release.......2004-10-24
The best of Stargate SG-1 is infact a 9 track compilation of the 1st 2 seasons of the TV show. It's really not the best of Stargate. I rather enjoyed the 1st release namely called Music of Stargate SG-1 and the actual movie music-score. However I still enjoyed the music from several episodes of the 2nd season, most notable being the music suite of Hathor.
A fan of the TV show should be pleasantly surprised by the suites in this CD. It won't disapoint.
one for the fans.......2004-05-07
This CD is really one for the fans. If you've not watched Stargate SG-1 before, then it will be very limited in its' appeal.
I personally enjoyed the CD, as I could relate the music back to the particular episodes in which they appeared. Some of the tracks are sweet and melodic, others are more ominious, so it doesn't come up short on variety.
The music sounds, for the most part, rather sythesised (which is why, if you are used to sprawling epic soundtracks from mainstram movies, I generally don't recommend this if you have never watched the show). Tracks are usually a mixture of synthesised sounds combined with more organic notes from traditional instruments, creating a very "sci fi" sound.
This is a great CD to work and study to as it provides great background music without being too intrusive.
Sweet.......2004-02-23
This is a great CD. Just listing to it makes me feel like I'm watching the show.

I can understand why some people rate it lower..........2006-07-14
This CD attracted me to the Early November...so I assume people that rate it lower had become attached to their previous releases and that's what they are used to.
However I think this is one of the most beautiful sounding albums I've ever heard and it's a perfect CD to listen to through Winter. I can't really pick out a certain track, but every track has something special about it. If you like Beauty, buy it.
quite impressive.......2006-07-11
this cd top to bottom was very good. I will say that I agree with you other viewers out there right now on predicting that this band will probably improve considerably as well as mature to much better music writing. I was given this cd by my brother and he told me to give it a listen. I honestly was grabbed by songs right away and wanted to keep listeing. If you buy this cd and you dont keep an open mind and appreciate the grabbing melodies and slow begginings that lead into faster choures which are very catchy, then you are probably just going to say its emo trash. this is not trash and its a very good band with a nice fan base. I strongly recommend this cd to everyone. dont be judgemental until youve at least heard it all the way through. nice job with this one, their three disc set comes out tomorrow. im excited
let's not kid ourselves. it's basically today's emo........2006-03-05
c'mon. let's be honest. it is what it is. but it also is the first "modern"(?) emo band that i have ever truly loved. it's emotionally charged full and luscious emo music like i've never heard from anyone else. they obviously take their cue from earlier emo-before-it-was-emo bands like mock orange and sunny day real estate. they even took the piano part from sunny day real estate's song "Pheurton Skeurto" and threw it in somewhere as a between track filler as well as give a shout out to the get up kids.
the best tracks for me are "baby blue" and "exchanging two hundred" which are fantastically powerful and moving.
if you like emo or whatever the hell you want to call it. or if you're into anything that's pretty good. check these guys out. also do yourself a favor and check out the guy's other project I Can Make A Mess Like Nobody's Business.
Good Listen, Decent Album.......2006-02-11
For the genre of music The Early November play, this is a pretty good album. Don't expect guitar histrionics or extremely complex songwriting, but expect what you will get: melody, breaks, and layers of sound.
The album starts off nice with "Ever So Sweet" which is probably their best song to date. It is catchy and the string addition to the song keeps it from getting too repetitive and boring. I love the seque into "Something That Produces Result." I rather like this song, but I don't think it's something I would listen to outside of the album. The next song is not one of my favorites, but I do enjoy the added recording of people on the street (I'm assuming). Added a nice layer to that song.
Most songs are pretty much the same thing, really. If they are "ballads" then they start off slow and then have some hooks and breakdowns. If they are acoustic, well, then they are acoustic. The faster paced songs have good energy with memorable melody. I can't say that the singing on this album is the greatest, but I like the vocals as they're distinctive enough. If his voice isn't, then his singing style is.
The album begins to bore me a little towards the end, but "Fluxy" keeps the album from getting too bogged down. The albums closer, however, does absolutely nothing for me. Just as with their EP "For All This", the last song seems stretched too long. At least, "Everything's Too Cold..." is a little over six minutes instead of nine.
Anyway, I give this record 3.5 stars as it is enjoyable. It isn't an album I have recommended to many friends, but I do listen to it fairly frequently. Will I listen to it often five years from now? Probably not, but I will still break it out and give it a listen every now and again. I recommend this album if you like the genre, not if you are trying to break into it.
It really deserves a 2.5.......2006-01-07
First of all, let it be known that I am not some cynical jerk that surfs amazon to crap on bands. I am a music lover, and 99.9 percent of the time I am the one defending backs that have been the subject of an attack by some close-minded person who lacks any joy in their life. The reason I have to say that this album should get a 2.5 is because how horrible the singing is. Enders does come up with great melodies. I think that the music is good and I think that if he sang everything in tune and didn't sound like someone was pinching his nose then I would absolutely love this album. Their are a number of songs I like by The Early November. However, as a whole, this album was put together very poorly. There are beautiful parts in it, which alsmost saddens me because I know they are capable of making much better music. I predict that The Early Novemeber will get better in time and eventually I will be reviewing them and announcing that I love his singing. I can already tell from their demo of "Decoration" I will like their new stuff that is going to come out. I just can't recommend about 3/4ths as good sounding music. Sorry to the avid fans here. I know what its like to see one of your favorite bands get a "bad" review. Just know that I am not a hater and I understand very well why you enjoy this band and I don't condemn your taste in music. :)

Stick with X&Y for your one-hit-wonders. This EP sucks. Maybe they just need to switch to Coplandia, as this effort is one bad trip.

I'm so glad I bought this.......2004-04-23
This is a pretty rare EP that was released before their breakthrough album, Parachutes, came out. It is definitely worth your money. I found it in Tower Records Import/Singles section for 6 or 7 bucks after I had got A Rush of Blood to the Head. Well, this release is somewhat different from AROBTTH in that it is extremely mellow. While their latest album leans more to piano ballads and U2-ish pop songs, Blue Room EP's 5 tracks are very laid-back and beautiful. I wish they could have kept on making songs like "Bigger Stonger", the first track on the EP that stuns me every time.
In short, this EP is pure magic.
They Need To Make More.......2004-03-16
"The Blue Room" EP can also be called Coldplay's third, not second EP, as some people might think (Brothers & Sisters and Safety were the first). Secondly, this is probably one of the best CD's that Coldplay have made so far. Don't get me wrong, Parachutes was just as good. But I had just one disappointment. See, I just got into Coldplay about a year ago, and then I discovered this EP, heard some sample songs, and thought "WOW! I want to get this one!". But, there was a problem. This is an extremely limited edition EP that came out in 1999 and it is hard to find now. Even if you do find it, it costs a lot of money (Anywhere from [$$$]). I think that that is the only real disappiontment about this EP. They should re-realase it here in the US. They need to make more!!

An excellent release.......2003-12-25
Released in 1999 before they even had released a proper debut LP, "The Blue Room EP" shows a young band with truly great potential (which they would later capitalize on with Parachutes and Rush of Blood). The first of the five tracks, 'Bigger Stronger' burns with some guitar fire and some uplifting vocals. Track 2 'Don't Panic' is the same song that would later be on Parachutes but in a slightly different form. Still, it's a great song. The first of the two real highlights is the next song, which is entitled 'See You Soon'. Simply put, this is one of the most beautiful songs that Coldplay have ever written. It can compete with any album track they have and when you stumble across it here on this little-owned EP you really feel like you have found a rare gem. It features little more than vocals, an acoustic guitar and some organ. It also has some interesting lyrics. This is one one of those types of songs that makes it worth it to buy an entire album. Next is 'High Speed'which is in the exact same form as it is on Parachutes. The closer 'Such A Rush' is the other highlight of this too-short EP. It wanders on slowly and dirge-like for it's first two minutes and it seems to be made of not much. But then it begins to build and build and then it explodes in a wonderful haze of emotion.
A great purchase, you can't go wrong with it.

Genius times 10.......2005-05-24
This is one of the best albums I own. As a fan of many different genres, I always find myself returning to this CD. As Ace sings, "I just found a friend in one of your lies," I feel home.
This album was recorded completely natural, meaning there was no added computer-ness, an amazing feat in today's music business. The Early November's main talent is creating a mood, and they do that together. This CD rises and falls continuously and takes the listener along for the ride.
Ace's clear voice floats above the rocking guitars and deep drum beats with lyrics like, "A beautiful baby blue sky that's looking up at you / Now watch it fade away"
I reccomend this album to anyone that enjoys music with a meaning, and mood.
the best i've ever heard.......2005-01-25
this is the best cd i've ever heard. and im not exagerating. this is an awesome band and i can't wait until their new full length comes out. the early november rule.
KEY SONGS: EVER SO SWEET, BABY BLUE, DINNER AND THE MONEY TABLE, FLUXY(featuring kenny from the starting line, awesome song)
Than wear a jacket........2004-11-09
I liked this newest effort from NJ's own The Early November. Their music is good for anytime. Whenever I'm having a hard time at work, I throw this album in and it makes me feel all warm and gooey inside(overshare). I also just like listening to it whenever. In fact I only have one complaint. The last Song...didn't really like it. Didn't seem to flow as well as the others did and felt out or place. Other than that, a great album. Any fan of music will like this album.

any band with a season or month in their name needs to be put to death. taking back fall out autumns sunday november boy need to stop. they will never be weezer or sunny day real estate and they need to realize this. only fat girls with no friends listen to this garbage.
emo kid.......2004-10-18
this is an excelent cd. The Early November are an extremely talented band. I think there great talent sometimes goes unoticed. Im a big fan of drive-thru bands and when i saw these guys live on the 2004 warped tour i was hooked. The day after warped tour i went to the store and picked up a copy of this cd and also a copy of there EP called "for all of this" also an amazing CD. the cd hooks you in and is packed full of emotion. In my mind the stand out tracks are "baby Blue" and "Something That Produces Results" another really good song is the first one called "ever so sweet" its a great song, but its a slow song. I think it doesnt really fit as the first song but it doesnt take away from how great this cd is.

Album Description
The Early November have a flair for irony. For proof, look no further than The Room's Too Cold, the New Jersey-based band^s Drive-Thru Records full-length cd debut. Despite the chilly title, the new album is as warm and richly embracing a collection of songs as one is likely to hear this or any year.
Co-produced by lead singer/songwriter Ace Enders and Chris Badami (producer of their 2002 EP For All Of This), The Room's Too Cold is a striking departure for The Early November (as well as for Drive-Thru Records, which crosses new musical frontiers with this album). The band passed on using synths, auto-tune and pro-tools. Instead, they went for natural sound and intensity, using vintage amps and instruments, a live string section and predominantly first-take vocals.
With its off-kilter rhythms, unconventional melodies and enigmatic lyrics, The Room's Too Cold is not always easy to understand. "This record kind of sneaks up on you," notes Enders, whose soulful vocals dominate. "You gotta listen to it a few times before you come around."
Indeed, the album's 11 songs are richly varied, though the band deliberately left imperfections on the album, because that's just how life is: imperfect. Tracks like "Ever So Sweet," "Baby Blue," "Fluxy" (which features an appearance by the Starting Line's Ken Vasoli) and "The Course of Human Life," traverse broad emotional landscapes.
"The Mountain Range In My Living Room" is about that all-too-human tendency to sweep problems under the rug. Says Marro, "It's about any sort of problem and how people just ignore it or don't say anything. We think it's far more rewarding to figure out what a song means by reading the lyrics and figuring things out on your own. We don't just want to hand it to the listener."
The album's closer, "Everything's So Cold..But You're So Hot" is a personal accounting of the end of a relationship that fell into the trap of continual forgiving and forgetting. "Time makes it fine," sings Enders, but eventually it's time to let go.
Customer Reviews:
This is "the" album.......2005-03-18
I heard these guys on the Drive Thru Records DVD. I bought this album and it is what I base all other albums against. Its got everything. This rooms too cold is an eerie reminder of a broken heart. Baby Blue is what caught me into them. If you want an album that makes you "feel" this is it. The other albums kick ass too. The acoustic stuff in Ever so sweet and dinner at the money table are beautiful. Check out the "For all of this" album its sweet too
4 1/2.......2004-01-26
This cd is good...but there's some intentional flaws that just shouldn't happen. First off, I'm sorry, but this guys vocals are terrible. He needs to do more than one cut, and even though I don't like them, put some harmonized vocals behind him, like in FAOT. However, the songs are great, besides number 1. Number 6, 8, and 10 are stand-out tracks to me. I'm not saying this is a bad cd, but I feel they kind of went backwards from FAOT. Good job though, and try to focus on the faster side.
Reminds me of Brand New's transformation.......2004-01-10
Similar to Brand New's 'Deja Entendu' album, you can really hear how The Early November has matured on this album. I don't really understand all of the negative reviews, as their sometimes strange guitar riffs ("Something that Produces Results") are anything but ordinary. Here's a rundown:
1) Ever So Sweet
I think it's kinda strange that these guys begin their album with a slow, acoustic piece, but it works. The later part of the song is the best part, so give it a chance...it grows on you. Like all of the album, the songs have great transitions between them. 9/10
2) Something that Produces Results
I love this song...so much energy. The guitar part about midway through the song is one of the strangest things I have heard, but contrary to other reviews of this album, these guys are unlike other 'emo' bands, whatever emo is. 10/10
3) The Mountain Range in My Living Room
I heard this song well before I bought the CD, as it was available for download from MP3.com. I just love the theme behind this song...it's about being tired of sweeping his problems under the rug, and they're becoming too much to handle. Who other than these guys would think of something like that? This song rocks, its a great sing-a-long one. 10/10
4) Sesame, Smeshame
I just noticed how these guys like to cluster all of their best songs at the beginning of this album. This is another great one...it reminds me of one of the songs on the 'For All of This' EP, but I just can't think of which one, sorry. The swing feel at the beginning of this song is something new for them, though. 9/10
5) Baby Blue
This might be my favorite song on the album...however, it doesn't get to its best part until the end. This song reminds me so much of Brand New, with the layered vocal work. I just noticed how short this song is. 10/10
6) The Course of Human Life
I love every song on this album, and this one is no exception...but it's just missing something. It feels like a filler to me. 7/10
7) Dinner at the Money Table
It's easy to say that this portion of the album is the worst part...combining tracks 6 and 7. I usually love TEN's acoustic stuff, but this song just has nothing to it. 7/10
8) Exchanging Two Hundred
Ah, this is the Early November I love. This is such a great song...the layered vocals are sweet, great guitar riffs, just great contrast between quiet and energetic parts of this song. 9/10
9) My Sleep Pattern Changed
This song disappoints me. The whole thing sounds like one long intro, and you're expecting the big, emotional moment to come, and it never does. It leaves you thinking, "that's it?" 6/10
10) Fluxy
Wow I love this song. It's by far the most radio-friendly song on this album (what do you expect with Ken Vasoli, TSL guest vocaling?) He does a good job though. I love the guitar riff at the beginning of this song, its easily one of the highpoints on this album. 10/10
11) Everything's Too Cold...But You're So Hot
I hate the name of this song, it departs from these guys' otherwise very mature image. However, this is such a great breakup song...this song is really quiet, and i love the melody. The climax is later in the song with Ace screaming/crying his words...man, that's gotta be what emo is.
All in all, this CD isn't as catchy as the 'For All of This' EP, but it doesnt have to be. This shows just how talented these guys are, being able to write such diverse music. Do yourself a favor and pick this one up. Verdict: 94/100
She complains the room's too cold..........2003-12-17
I don't quite agree with putting ever so sweet as the leadoff track for this CD. It's the type of song that would be better left untouched... The rest of the CD however is almost flawless. Tons of great melodies and lyrics, ranging from the poppy 'Baby Blue' to the perfect closer 'Everythings too cold, but you're so hot'... Its sadly sweet emo at its best.
"She complains the room's too cold, but when I learn to make heat, it's just to dissapoint"
this record is great..........2003-12-10
so i enjoyed the e.p. but kinda felt it was pretty standard stuff i.e. tbs and brand new-esque group choruses etc blah blah blah. thus while i thought i might like this album i did'nt think i'd love it (or even but it). but i did and man is it great, this is a genuinely amazing record and if you write it off and pass it by then your really doing the band and yourself a dis-service. most under-rated album of 2003 all the way! i bet this record is never given the attention it so deserves.

Customer Reviews:
A wonderfully complete overview of Baroque secular music!.......2002-04-22
I picked this up in a bargain bin for a song and counted my blessings! I am a Baroque music fiend, with a large collection of Harmonia Mundi discs, but up until now I hadn't purchased any HM box sets. Many of my favourite Harmonia Mundi artists are featured on the five discs: Andreas Scholl, Alfred Deller, Dominique Visse, Rene Jacobs, Bernarda Fink, and Jennifer Larmore. Each disc covers a different theme: The Madrigal (disc one), The Birth of the Opera (disc two), England in the 17th Century, featuring works by Byrd, Dowland, Blow, and Purcell (disc three), A Century of French Opera, which showcases works by Lully, Charpentier, and Rameau (disc four), and The Reign of the Opera Seria, with contributions from Vivaldi, Handel, and Graun (disc five). The only thing I would have wished for would have been more opera selections from Handel (Rodelinda or Rinaldo for example). This is an excellent, very complete overview of the rise and evolution of Baroque secular music (the liner notes are very complete and deserve an A+). Harmonia Mundi has also released two additional "Pathways of the Baroque" box sets, one of instrumental music and one of Baroque religious music. If you are a Baroque fan like myself and you have the time and money, buy all three. It is a worthy investment, and the box sets offer a wide selection of artists, styles, and composers.
