Sci-Fi Channel - Sci-Fi's Greatest Hits, Vol. 3: The Uninvited [Soundtrack]
Editorial Reviews
Amazon.com
Theremins, oscillators, and stirring strings abound in this ode to space aliens, sea monsters, and nature run amok. Interspersed among themes such as "Jaws" and "Close Encounters" are excerpts from Orson Welles's infamous 1938 War of the Worlds radio broadcast that actually scared listeners into believing the Earth was being invaded by aliens. Of all the discs in the Sci-Fi set, this is the weakest, with much of the music reiterating familiar formulas. There are some standout tracks, mainly those with humor, such as "Killer Klowns from Outer Space," the warped polka of "Gremlins," and the goofy "Attack of the Killer Tomatoes." The theme for "The Blob," meanwhile, is so silly that you'd think it marked the opening of a sitcom about friendly gelatinous ooze. --Bryan Reesman

Music and Monsters.......2002-11-22
Whoever decided to use clips from the radio version of "War of the Worlds" as a framework to this soundtrack collection should
be commended for a wonderful idea. The collection covers much ground, from the fifties monster classics right through today's hits. But it's simply the selection of tunes, many VERY hard to find anywhere else, that makes this a gem to fans. It's a joy to hear Bernard Herrmann's cues from "Day the Earth Stood Still" with CD quality sound, the driving sounds of "Predator" in all it's lip-biting glory, and even the groovy theme from "The Blob" to delight the listener. Many wonderful surprises on this CD, and the end of a long quest for long-missing rarities. The entire
collection (this CD is number 3 in the series, methinks) is very much worth the money, and well put-together. But get it here, since this one's getting hard to find in stores! -KS
