Quantity Over Quality.......2007-01-15
As a musician myself, I know too well that one of the most important ingredients in ANY performance (live or recorded) is passion. The recordings here generally lack the same passion and sheer drama of the originals. Much of the instrumentation has been reduced to a cheezy, thin, plastic synthesized replica. The performances are simply a watered-down lackluster version of the classic originals. If it were not for the sheer volume of tracks compiled here, I would have rated the comp only "one star".
Mediocre.......2006-05-17
The sound quality for this collection isn't much better than the samples offered by Amazon.
One Hundred Greatest TV Themes.......2005-08-06
I have watched almost all the shows that are on these 4 cd's. Many were made before I started watching TV. Most I've seen once or twice before.
Pretty close to original recordings.......2005-07-24
Definitely not as good as the originals. You'll probably notice the slight differences since it's stuff you saw and listened to every week or everyday in reruns growing up, but it's still an amazing collection.
Really Good Collection.......2004-07-11
I bought this in part because it had soundtracks to tv shows that are unavailable. My husband and I watch aome British programming. Many of the theme songs are for what seems like obscure British shows. That said; it has been enjoyable to hear music that I would normally never hear. Some music does sound tinny; some are very very rich, and some music is derived from actual preformances from the original artists. I think this is worth buying because is has a wonderful blend of music. The pieces are full soundtracks so they includes the parts of the theme song which are often edited out. I think the orchestra's who preformed the music did a great job. I have MonsterMania which redoes the soundtracks to the Godzilla movies. The interpretation is less heavy and stark than the preformance we associate with the original soundtrack; but I regard it as a new way to appreciate the music and all the componets which make the song unique.

Frontiere's other scores deserve to be released, dammit.......2005-06-25
Frontiere is one of Planet Earth's leading theologians and I'm here to concur with Inheritor's demand for the other scores. Especially Frontiere's FORMS OF THINGS UNKNOWN. My favorite part of NEVER BORN is that swirling & ascending woodwinds passage.
Unavailable.......2005-03-11
I cannot recommend that you order this CD since it was never sent to me.
After an inexplicable delay of two months following an online order in January, I was informed that another delay would make this item unavailable until sometime in April.
No explanation was given.
Apparently the CD is advertised here but don't expect to get it anytime soon.
I found the entire experience frustrating, unhelpful and dishonest to say the least.
You are about to experience the best!.......2004-10-30
A#1. I agree with the other reviewers. It's wonderful but where's the rest of it? I have had the cassette version for at least 6 years. They call it Vol. 1. But after several years, there is still only this one volume. I love it. I've listened to it over and over. But I want the rest. And you will too! You all gotta buy this recording. If you remember the original Outer Limits, You'll drool listening to this!!!
Update 08-26-04: I found out from the number one man (Neil Norman) that they have no plans for any more volumes. I've written several letters and they're probably tired of hearing from me. How about you all writing some? Thanks
10-29-04: Since Mr. Norman has the original masters, that means no one else would be able to release any of this music. Maybe he doesn't want to take the time to clean it up. Well, I for one would take it anyway I can get it. Why doesn't he release the masters to another record company? Let someone else give us what we are craving for? PLEASE???
Disappointing!.......2003-01-30
Though it had the main theme song, there were choice bits of sound effects and mood music left out, the ones I remember the best. I'm still waiting for them to come out with volume 2; maybe it will contain the missing vital sound tracks?
You are about to experience "The 40th Anniversary"........2003-01-06
Well this disk has been around since 1993. That was ten years ago. To discover the release was for me the music find of all time. However there is a flaw in its conception. It was meant to be part of a trilogy. The advent of the 32 story DVD set must reveal that the first series is rich with the most unique pieces of music ever made for a television series. What is missing are the other most essential soundtracks; "Don't Open Till Doomsday"(Robert Van Eps) and "Forms of things Unknown"(Dominic Frontiere). The music from these stories, demonstrate both a subtle and intense atmosphere. Chilling creepiness, dire tragedy and complete horror. The closest music to rival the work of Bernard Herrmann. What happened to these? What happened to the trilogy? Disk One provides us with the first essential "Outer Limits" soundtrack, "The Man Who Was Never Born". It encompasses all the elements I described about the latter two. We hear the original main theme music in all of its dramatic power and majesty. We also have "The Hundred Days of the Dragon " and "Nightmare". These are exceptionally good. The sound effects were really unnecessary and I would gladly sacrifice them for more of the great first series music. So I would like to plead with GNP Crescendo to revisit their plan to complete the Outer Limits Trilogy for the year of its 40th Anniversary....

John Van Tongeren's score for The Outer Limits series is almost subliminal. Paralleling the show's surreal, intellectual qualities, the composer builds suspense through subdued tension rather than bombastic orchestral attacks, though there are a few of those. The overall musical effect emphasizes a surreptitious approach to getting under your skin. Considering those parameters, The Outer Limits becomes more effective as creepy background audio than an active, sit-down listening experience. Aside from two versions of the main theme, eight episodes are represented in varying degrees. There's also a cool techno remix that effectively chops up and samples the opening narration. --Bryan Reesman
Customer Reviews:
prepare to be mesmerized.......2000-08-24
Behold the ultimate background CD! It sets any mood perfectly from happy and upbeat to dark and mysterious.
It has one flaw in it's perfection, in my humble oppinion most of the songs are absolutely meant to exist solely on the background, they set a perfect mood but they never reach beyond that. It's silent and manipulative music that crawls under your skin only to leave you with a strange sense of "what have I just been listening to!"
If you want a cd that is perfect for the background of a silent, moody night or party, most of the songs on this cd will do the trick. If you want a cd that is filled with music that sweeps you off of your feet and impresses you for days to come, then this cd isn't what you've been waiting for. If you're into beautifull mood-setting music or marvelous soundtracks then this is certainly what you've been looking for.
An artistic masterpiece.......2000-06-18
This CD is a true instrumental masterpiece that has an eerie sound that gives you the kind of feeling that you get every time you watch the TV series. This is a must have for anyone who even remotely likes the New Outer Limits TV series
