Mystery Train: Original Soundtrack Recording [Soundtrack]
Editorial Reviews
From Grove Press Guide to Blues on CD
The years 1953 and 1954, like the previous few and many more to come, were artistically prosperous ones for Parker, an excellent singer and harp player then recording with his Blues Flames on Sam Phillips's famous Sun label. The nine Parker songs assembled here are a veritable feast for the ears, from the disarmingly gloomy title track (later appropriated by Elvis Presley) to the prototypical boogie "Feelin' Good" (a big R&B hit) to enthralling blues numbers only here released stateside. This disc also has three interesting if raggedy songs recorded by Sun artist James Cotton (he sings, no harp) in 195~54 and two obscurities credited to inventive guitarist Pat Hare, including his eerily prophetic and previously unissued "I'm Gonna Murder My Baby." -- © Frank John Hadley 1993
