4 out of 5 stars Six Decades of Film Music.......2007-05-13

This is film music for the classical music lover. The City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra presents excellent arrangements of a number of classic film themes (although several pieces of the 56 film classics selected for this 4 CD set are not orchestral arrangements, but rather specialty arrangements). Besides great film composers such as John Williams, Elmer Bernstein, Ennio Morricone, and James Horner, classical composers such as Richard Strauss and Pietro Mascagni make an appearance. On several of the numbers the Crouch End Festival Chorus adds the human voice to the power of the full symphonic orchestra to create true movie magic. If you like the sound of a full symphony orchestra playing some of the most recognized themes ever written, you'll love these CDs.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent collection with fine performances.......2007-03-28

Silva Screen Records, based in England, has been issuing some fine collections of film scores, more in one box than we have the right to expect. This four-CD box contains scores by many of the best writers, including Max Steiner, Bernard Herrmann, Dimitri Tomkin, Kenneth J. Alford (The Bridge on the River Kwai), Elmer Bernstein, Maurice Jarre, Ennio Marricone, John Barry, Nino Rota, John Williams, James Horner, and more. We can all think of additional film scores we wished were included, but then there's no way this collection could be all-inclusive. The City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra, supplemented by Crouch End Festival Chorus on some numbers, does a very competent job...The liner notes give the basic information without any commentary, and as far as I can see, contain only one error. Am I wrong or are tracks 9 and 10 on the fourth CD mislabeled? Track 9, which runs 7:33, seems to have the excitement of "Pirates of the Caribbean" (which I did not see) and track 10, which runs 4:22, the more sedate "The Girl with the Pearl Earring (which I also did not see). Listings seem to have them reversed.

5 out of 5 stars "essential film scores from 1939 to 2004 ~ Incredible Music".......2005-05-16

When I think of the "Golden Age" of Hollywood, many composers come to mind...you gave the usher your ticket in the theater and sat down, knowingly you were going to get your moneys worth...when the curtain opened and you heard those first few notes...you sat back, watched and listened as the film score and orchestra worked their magic...now we have the ultimate from Silva Screen Classics "The Incredible Film Music Box", featuring a four disc set of the essential film scores of the past 60 years...covering several decades from 1939 through and up to the present 2004

There are compilations and then there are "Compilations" beginning with a classic that even the youngsters today recognize "GONE WITH THE WIND" (1939) (Max Steiner), sweeping score that captures the tragic history of the South during the Civil War, one great cue after another, it doesn't get any better than this, nominated by the Academy for Best Original Score...and closing on Disc 4 with "THE INCREDIBLES" (2004) (Michael Giacchino), the big hit in computer animation from Walt Disney & Pixar that once again pit Super-Heroes against the forces of evil...our family of five Supers prove crime doesn't pay, but box-office receipts do...gotta love it!

Silva Screen Classics as usual, has put quality into this 4-CD-Set featuring The City Of Prague Philarmonic Orchestra and the Crouch End Festival Chorus conducted by Kenneth Alwyn, Bill Ashton, Paul Bateman, James Fitzpatrick, Mario Klemens, Derek Wadsworth, and Nic Raine. Recorded in "Dolby Surround" with the new technology of "HDCD", this is a "film-score-buffs" dream, one to treasure now and years to come.

Some selections are missing, but when you think of what Silva has included, it is impossible to please everyone...was happy to see "TOUCH OF EVIL" (1958) from composer Henry Mancini, as I feel this composer deserves all the recognition that has been overlooked recently in the music world...This collection is aimed directly at the "Serious Film Score" music fans and collectors...Silva is as always, perfect in every way...just the way we like 'em!

Just as the Osmonds spun off solo careers for younger siblings Marie and Jimmy in the '70s, Nick Carter of the Backstreet Boys now sees 12-year-old brother Aaron bringing his own album to the kid-pop table. The closest this Disney Radio-ready disc gets to naughtiness is "My Internet Girl," a squeaky-clean celebration of instant-messaging. It fits right in with whitewashed, piping-voiced takes on '60s hits such as "I Want Candy" and "Iko Iko," and the lite-funk of the title track. Almost quaint in its preteen tone, Aaron's Party is certainly suitable listening for even the youngest kids. --Rickey Wright

1 out of 5 stars COME GET IT--IN THE TRASH!!.......2007-03-31

This has got to be one of the worst musicians ever! Wait, did I say MUSICIAN? Aaron Carter cannot even rap, let alone make good music. Most of the songs he uses anyway are remakes of ones from the 50s and 60s, but done in a crappy way. And what's with his retarded song, "That's How I Beat Shaq"? If that were really happening, Shaq would've thrown Aaron's a** across the basketball court and then dunked him head first through the basketball hoop. Seriously, somebody shut this kid up!

1 out of 5 stars from a used to be googly-eyed preteen.......2007-03-20

I remember receving this CD for my 13th birthday and being over-joyed. I put posters of him all over my walls and put the CD on repeat day after day. My poor, poor family...

Now that I am older, I see that Aaron Carter is nothing but another waste of time, money and energy. He makes millions by going on stage lips-syncing to songs that he didn't even write. Come on, people.

4 out of 5 stars Not Bad For Someone Just Starting Out.......2006-11-26

This isn't a half-bad album by Aaron Carter. While this isn't in my CD player as much as it used to be, this is still a really good album, considering Aaron's age at the time. As an Aaron Carter and Backstreet Boys fan, I feel it is necessary to collect at least some of their CD singles but all of their CD's (the US released ones anyway). I happen to like some of the Interludes on here, but there are too many in which Aaron and friends use the telephone. Other wise, I thought this was pretty good.

5 out of 5 stars This is awesome!.......2006-09-03

i love aaron carter he is aweosme! i think he has the potential to be the next 50 cent! he can rap better than eminem! but i just cant help to wonder where the parental advisory sticker is on this? i mean he like frickin cusses every other word in each song. ok seriously this kid sucks my nuts. HOW IN JESUS' NAME COULD THIS KID EVER BEAT SHAQ?? i MEAN COME ON HES LIKE 4'5" or something like that SAHQ COULD PROBABLY THROW HIM ACROSS THE BASKETBALL COURT! dont ever buy this.

1 out of 5 stars Can you say "garbage"?.......2006-07-18

Aaron Carter was 12 when he did this? Ha! That's debatable since he looks about 4 on the cover. He also has the voice (and mentality) of an 8-year-old girl crying about her broken Barbie doll. Everything about this album is horrible. I could sing better than him! And the lyrics are weird. "My Internet Girl"? The "girl" is probably some 57-year-old, 875-pound child molester. Please don't give $13.98 to this spoiled brat. His wallet is bloated enough already. And whoever says he's better than the Beatles or Elvis: what? Can you honestly say that with a straight face? That's pathetic. Listen to "A Little Less Conversation" or "Eleanor Rigby" and then tell me that's not good music.

1 out of 5 stars Don't get fooled!.......2006-09-23

This album is not "new" in any way - it only wants you to waste your money. If you bought "Most Requested Hits" from 2003, you have already bought this album too. I bought "most Requested Hits" for 3 songs ("Sugar", "She Wants Me" and "One Better"). Today I think it was not worth the money at all. I gave a few dollars just for three songs. I used to support Aaron and I have all 5 albums, but now, he's engaged and he's probably too busy to make another record. I mean, it's been 4 years since the last time! Aaron Carter is a part of the past. Now you people let him enjoy his bong alone=)

1 out of 5 stars I feel sorry for this foulmouthed punk..........2006-07-18

...as he tries to maintain his "sweet little boy" persona. I hope he doesn't hurt himself. It would be so crushing to all his fans if they learned the truth about this jerk. Not coincidentally, that's why I wrote this review. I never really liked him in the first place, but hearing what a complete tool this guy is, I hate him even more. I hope to God that I nor anyone else ever has the *ahem* "pleasure" of meeting this conceited little brat. What an a-wipe.

1 out of 5 stars *SIGH*.......2006-02-09

Newsflash: His second "Greatest Hits" album in a row (his last album: "Aaron Carter: Most Requested Hits (2003)"), while he doesn't even score hits anymore:

Zijn last "hit" was in 2001 ["Leave It Up To Me" #22 in UK]... After this, he released 9 other singles
[Not Too Young, Not Too Old - "I'm All About You" - "Another Earthquake" - "Summertime" - "To All the Girls" - "Do You Remember" - "She Wants me" (with Nick) - "One Better" - "Saturday Night"]
ALL, piece by piece, FLOPPED! 4 of them are mentioned on this album:

1. Aaron's Pary (Come Get It) - #51 UK
2. That's How I Beat Shaq - #96 US
3. Bounce [new]
4. My Internet Girl [new]
5. I Want Candy - #31 UK
6. Leave It Up To Me - #22 in Engeland
7. A.C.'s Alien Nation ["Jimmy Neutron, Boy Genius" soundtrack]
8. Oh Aaron - Huge Flop
9. I'm All About You - Huge Flop
10. To All the Girls - Flop
11. Another Earthquake - Huge Flop
12. One Better - Flop

As you see, not even one top 20 hit, nowhere... My opinion should be clear by now. If you ask me, his 2003 "Aaron Carter: Most Requested Hits" is far better than this one! I'm sorry for the fans, It's sadly but true. This can't even be called a "greatest hits" album anymore... There are 2 (of the 12) songs you can call a "hit".

1 out of 5 stars hahahahahahaaaa.......2006-01-30

the fact that Jive thinks it's necessary to release a 'best hits' of aaron carter is just ridiculous. how old is he? young 20s? not only has he not had all that many albums, but his songs really aren't worthy of a 'best hits' album. theyre just not. he's aaron carter. please don't support Jive's pathetic attempt to make money, this is a disgrace to music.

5 out of 5 stars Best Cd.......2006-01-30

Okay, i just have to say if you are a true aaron fan you will still buy this cd even though all of his songs are on cds. I know i did and its not a waste of money. Well to you it might be if you aren't a true aaron Fan but if you are this cd is really for you.

This star vehicle for Sylvester Stallone may be a remake of the 1971 film starring Michael Caine, but the soundtrack music is clearly from this era. Jellybean Benitez worked as executive producer, and the coterie of trip-hop and techno-dance DJs and stars is noteworthy. From the expert grooves of Manchester duo Mint Royale to Petersburg, Ontario's most popular brothers, Soma Sonic, the waves of sensual ambience flow like lava from a lamp. Expert British remixer Paul Oakenfold (Happy Mondays) teams with programmer Andy Gray for "Descents." Soundtrack perennial Moby contributes the hypnotic "Memory Gospel." Bill Leeb and Delerium are on target with "Enchanted." Jellybean himself gives us a take on "Jingle Bells," which is sandwiched between the Accidentals' choir versions of the Christmas carols "Joy to the World" and "Silent Night." --Rob O'Connor

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Get some remixed Carter!.......2001-09-24

This double-disc special edition soundtrack summarizes everything that made Mike Hodges' groundbreaking 70's revenge film a cult classic. This soundtrack is mandatory for any fan of the film or of talented composer Roy Budd whose haunting theme is highlighted throughout the album with dialogue samples from the film selectively placed between music cues capturing the gritty atmosphere of Michael Cain's uber-cool Jack Carter. In addition, this album includes a bonus remix CD featuring 10 tracks remixed by some of the most talented techno DJ's world wide and take Roy Budd's main theme to a new level, eclipsing Tyler Bates electronic reworking for the disappointing Stallone remake. This special edition import CD is beautifully packaged in a glossy gatefold sleeve featuring liner notes booklet with stunning cover artwork and photographs capturing the essence of the quintessential film. It is worth every penny (or shilling) to purchase this import version instead of the standard version which includes 28 tracks, 3 more than the standard edition which are basically just additional dialogue samples from the film, however the instrumental version of Getting Nowhere In A Hurry is absent from this edition. I own both versions and the special edition is by far the best, the rarest, and geared for the collector so go get yourself some Carter!

1 out of 5 stars Take stuff, drive to New Orleans, and stay there.......2003-03-06

Who cares about the Get Carter soundtrack. Are you serious. Learn to enjoy music and not the image that makes you feel good when you escape to a new identity. The Groove Armada song in the end credits is nifty nonetheless because it's fun to move around to. So I'd say go to WINMX.com, get a program, download it, and then start researching for a more significant expression of human intellect. And also. See GALACTIC. They are from New Orleans. And they are most impressive live. If you're reading through my vehement tirade, then good. B/C now you know at least one good band. Go out and watch music being made and see these guys live. Don't let headphones and CD's ruin the real fun...

4 out of 5 stars Ending Credits Song.......2002-12-30

The ending credits song is: Groove Armada - If Everybody Looked The Same. There are some great songs, but from what I've seen, the soudntracks put out don't have all of the music, or do not have the correct mixes/remixes. Any questions, email me. :)

      4 out of 5 stars It's great! You won't be disappointed........2001-12-20

I liked it a lot, but too bad it doesn't have that one song that plays during the end credits. Then it would be a perfect soundtrack album.

4 out of 5 stars More Good Than Bad.......2001-04-16

Contained within this soundtrack CD are some great tunes, including a take on the original movie main theme and a track by Moby. However, there are also some very pedestrian dance/club mixes that were not very good in my opinion.
