The overall musicianship is ok. The vocals are the real stand out. My biggest issue with the CD is that I feel the sound is too compressed and it seems a bit over produced. Reminds me of Geoff Tate trying to do a rock orchestra but without the top quality guitar work. But then again we all know what opinions are like :)

...To Karma, more than Epica or the Black Halo. The songs are a little shorter, and in my opinion, they stand apart from each other just as well as, if not better than, they do together on the album. The Human Stain in particular is a nice surprise in the middle of the album. In fact, my only complaint is that the bonus track, The Pendulous Fall, though very catchy, sounds rushed- it almost sounds like they did it in one take and whatever post effects were on, they went with. It'd be nice to see them follow up on the next album with a reworked version, maybe longer by 30 seconds or a minute. Other than that, an outstanding album.

THE DISC: (2007) 12 tracks clocking in at approximately 48 minutes. Included with the disc is an 18-page booklet containing song titles/credits, song lyrics, band photos, and thank you's. Recorded at Gate Studios (Wolfsberg, Germany). All songs written by Kamelot. * There is a limited edition package available - containing the music disc as well as a bonus DVD (which is short at about 10 minutes... containing the video of the title track, as well as the making of the video... each in the 4-5 minute range). Label - SPV/Steamhammer.

COMMENTS: If you're a fan of Kamelot, as well as the power/symphonic/progressive genre, then without a doubt you'll need to add "Ghost Opera" to your collection. Khan's voice gets stronger as both he and the band mature. His ability to sing, his harmony and delivery of words, his emotion (both high and low) are truly a gift. Youngblood's guitar (rhythm sections and solos) are quick when they need to be, crisp and befitting. Barry is steady on bass and Grillo is a master on the double bass drum kit... exciting, but not overly flashy. THE GOOD: From the beautiful one minute violin intro "Solitaire" to the brilliant final cut ("The Pendulous Fall") there is no filler. "Ghost Opera" is an album you can listen to again and again without skipping tracks. Keyboardist Oliver Palotai is a nice addition. Kamelot has used keyboards on previous albums, but they've only been guest artists. Palotai's contributions are welcomed. Quietly in the background and never overbearing... in my opinion, the way keyboards should be in most forms of metal. Musicianship is professional, tight, amazing. The orchestra is woven nicely into various songs. Dare I say Kamelot is becoming less focused on speed and crunchy riffs, as they at giving the listener a full musical journey of ups and downs. I keep asking myself - how will Kamelot out-perform their previous album... and they keep doing it. I loved "The Black Halo" (2005) and thought it perhaps their finest in their catalog... until now. Khan's vocals soar once again. Sound production is once again stellar (crisp highs and thundering bass lines). Favorite songs include the mid-tempo "Rule The World"; the exciting title track of a dream gone bad with the opera as a backdrop; the chugging "Human Stain" featuring some great rhythm guitar, a very emotional Khan, and the piano sliding in at the right times; and perhaps the best power ballad on the album (featuring guest singer Amanda Sommerville sharing the vocals with Khan). THE NOT SO GOOD: The melodies are top notch... and taking anything away from the music would be criminal. A minor flaw with the album is the print in the liner notes... the song lyrics are printed in extremely small script over illustrations - making them tough to read. My eye-sight is 20/20 and I have to squint to make out all the words. The only other small detail I could think of is the shortness of the disc (recent albums ranging from 52-60 minutes in length) and the absence of an 'epic' song over 8 minutes. Not since 1999 ("The Fourth Legacy") has the longest song been in the 5 minute range... "Love You To Death" is the longest track on the disc here clocking in at 5:13 minutes. It doesn't have to be a "Rhyme Of The Ancient Mariner" epic, but I think it would break that commercial prototype feel to this album as a whole. OVERALL: Brilliant album. Incredible melodies. Flawless musicianship. Distinct vocals once again are the trademark of Kamelot. My pick for '07 power metal album of the year (5 stars).

This is probably the most different Kamelot album to date (at least post Khan, which is all I have), but do not be alarmed. The album is excellent. More melodic than the Black Halo, but it works great just the same. Make sure to get the album with the bonus track Pendulous Fall; it's one of the best songs on the album. For those that like Symphony X and were dissapointed with the direction they took on Paradise Lost, do not be alarmed as this is less severe of a change and it is excellent nonetheless.

After their last album, The Black Halo, I was really worried about what Kamelot was going to put out. How could they follow up such a perfect album? While TBH seemed to refine and polish their previous work, Epica, Ghost Opera goes to different places. It captures more operatic and melodic themes and successfuly intertwines them with Kamelot's unique metal sound. It really is quite amazing. If you've listened to Kamelot's previous releases and enjoyed them, do yourself a favour and get Ghost Opera.

Dark, somber, and thematically unified as no previous album by the Police, Ghost in the Machine deals almost exclusively with the negative effects of modern political and technological culture. The only departure from this focus is "Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic," a perfect pop song and radio hit. Elsewhere, the album treats such issues as the hope underlying resistance to oppression, the dismissal of most of the nonindustrialized world, the daily bombardment of words and images that overload the senses, and the frequent recourse to violence for personal or political expression. The songs are presented in what are, for the Police, unusually dense, layered arrangements. Andy Summers's guitar lines are even more ethereal than usual, with Sting's bass parts bobbing in a mix seasoned with keyboards and sax and propelled by Stewart Copeland's unmistakable, idiosyncratic drumming. If you want to discover The Police, do yourself a favor and check out their first two releases, Outlandos d'Amour (released November of 1978, highlights include Roxanne, Masoko Tanga) and Regatta De Blanc (which translates to "White Reggae" released October, 1979, highlights include Message In a Bottle, Walking On the Moon, Bed's Too Big Without You). These releases have the vital energy and punk-reggae-power-trio sound that really got them noticed. I also recommend 1980's Zenyetta Mondatta. The first release in the States that got a lot of airplay on the radio, Zenyetta Mondatta managed to be commercial success while carrying forward that great sound. Hits include De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da, Don't Stand So Close To Me, Canary In a Coalmine. I purchased Ghost in The Machine when released and that was the end for me. With this release their sound began the downward spiral, losing the energy and fun of their initial releases. Outlandos d'Amour [Digipak] Regatta De Blanc

Ghost In The Machine is an exceptional CD and probably the darkest of all of them. Invisible Sun, Spirits In The Material World, Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic, Rehumanize Yourself, Demolition Man. The entire CD is a very interesting evaluation of mankind.

As a Professional musician and a long time fan of The Police, I'm getting a little sick and tired of all the reviews focusing almost entirely on the lyrics with their symbolism and their socio-political message, etc...

Apart from token lines like: "With airy but moody synths and keyboards...", there's simply no reference at all to Andy Summers' incredibly ingenious and unique guitar playing with all its different colours and textures, his imaginative use of rhythm as well as his unforgettable riffs.

No mention of Stewart Copeland's breath-taking playing. The drumming that influenced a whole generation...

Nor is there any mention of Sting. Yes, he is a master song-writer but what about his instruments? He would have to be one of the most underrated bass players in the history of good music. As a bass player I've always admired his warm sound and his thoughtful playing. He's supportive and mostly sparse without ever being boring and possesses tonnes of tasty-ness. And what can we say about his voice?! Simply an amazing voice. A rich, totally unique tone that's instantly recognizable, combined with beautiful melodic ingenuity. And, when informed by Sting's tremendous musicality, it makes for some of the most heart-felt singing in all of popular music.

It is not my intention to ignore lyrics or their meaning. I love good lyrics as much as anyone else and I am fully aware that for a song to be a 'good song', it has to have both great lyrics and great music working in harmony. All I'm simply saying is that to concentrate exclusively on lyrics (brilliant as they might be) and to ignore the musician's/producer's contributions to the overall creation of a song is to basically relegate music's role to simply background filler. Like a movie soundtrack or a boring one-bar-loop repeated ad-nauseam in a bad Rap song.

The members of The Police deserve much more than that.

Wonderful CD. The sound is very pleasant to listen to and unique and it will continue to be a classic for years to come. I remember also listening to these songs in the very early 80's (1981) when they were really popular. That was when you had to listen them on a record or a tape recorder. My brother used to listen to this album all the time. I guess that's how I was introduced to their songs way back in the golden years of the early 80s.

The infectious twang and pop hooks of Wilco's former efforts may be fading fast, but A Ghost Is Born is still a rewarding effort that demands repeated listening. The group's fifth album extends upon the experimentalism of Yankee Hotel Foxtrot with angular, blues-soaked guitar riffs ("At Least That's What You Said," "Hell Is Chrome"), a handful of sparse, yet catchy tunes (smack dab in the middle of the disc) that will surely keep college radio stations smiling, and a lengthy track that descends into mere static ("Less Than You Think"). Frontman Jeff Tweedy's songwriting continues to evolve: "Hummingbird" is a dreamy Randy Newman-styled love song; "The Late Greats" is a sly ode to the world of pop tacked onto the end of the album (as if using such a fun song on this understated disc was an afterthought). Meanwhile, producer extraordinaire Jim O'Rourke manages to make the most complicated arrangements here sound minimalist and laid-back. All told, it's another great addition to the Wilco canon. --Jason Verlinde

Want to understand this album? Listen to the words to Hell is Chrome. Reviewers complaining about droning white noise, words that don't make sense, "incompetently played" guitar solos ---- It's all spelled out for you in Hell is Chrome. If you don't understand it then you need to choose something easier to listen to. Something that makes sense immediately. Something that doesn't challenge you. Something that doesn't make you wonder. Something that doesn't make you think. Please enjoy your own chrome plated hell.

This album is a masterpiece. It's simple, beautiful, thoughtful, and thought-provoking. Yes, even Less Than You Think - all 15 minutes of it. Maybe if you actually _listen_ to the intro of that song, you can at least try to understand why there are 12 minutes of noise. There isn't a single piece on this album that isn't exactly the way it's supposed to be.

Good job, Wilco.

Yeah, just as pretty much everyone else has said, this one is a creeper. It took me awhile to really get into their groove on this record. The goods are there, I guess it depends on how you listen to it. What really made me go back a give this record another try was hearing their live album. Theologians, Company in my Back and Hand Shake drugs are really great songs.

I love this CD but the 'noise' at the end of some of the songs really takes so much away from the overall groove. I've recommended and have played a few of the tracks for friends and always mention--'the end of this track is a disaster and will grate on your nerves!' When I play the CD I always skip -to-the-next song when the distorted mess comes up. So much potential in the CD itself. Hopefully WILCO will become enlightened and lose the nails on chalkboard endings.

I am not what you would call a die hard Wilco fan. I do like their music though. While I have only had "a ghost is born" for a few days, I must agree with the reviewers that feel let-down the by the noise-making on this CD. Noise-making has its place, but usually (here included) it just doesn't bring me pleasure. Instead, it requires patience to listen until the end of a few of the tracks.

A previous review makes the analogy between this CD and the art of Andy Warhol. But I think that Tweedy works to create great meaning and emotion, while Warhol strove to vacate art of those attributes while meditating on fame. A better comparison would be bad Abstract Expressionism from the 50's, the kind of visual noise that must have seemed smart at the time, but also kind that no one wants to view any more.

Not to over emphasize the "noise" thing. It only happens on some of the songs, and several of the songs on the CD are pretty good. However, it just feels like Tweedy is putting some distance between himself and his earlier work, and his fans. So, like "Kid A" (love Radiohead, still can't stand Kid A) it could constitute a reaction, a break from the past. I just don't want to pay to hear a reaction.

The Grammy awards given to this CD should have be a yellow flag. Grammy winning CD's are rarely the best an artist has to offer. Often, Grammys are a belated nod to talent or driven by sales. However, I will keep listening - the CD is subtle and perhaps I just need time to appreciate it.

Yep, that's right. Been a fan for a while, but this was the album in my opinion that launched them into the stratosphere of pop rock creative mastery. I'm only writing this review for all the naysayers. Yes this album doesn't have all the catchy hooks of his older albums, or the straight ahead rock twang feel, but guess what? Jeff Tweedy has evolved as a songwriter and musician and if you don't evolve too you'll keep listening to AM and think that's his peak. Sorry, but no way. I will add that it does take time to appreciate the subtle mastery of this album --- after casually listening to it for several months, I "discovered" it on a road trip through the Oregon desert. The scope and texture of this album is unlike any other I've heard, absolutely beautiful, rich, deep, poetic, melodic, creative, original, moving.... "Muzzle of Bees" and "Theologians" particularly. I guess it's personal, but I think that's their intent.

I bought this album for track 11 "Inner Universe"
(which is the track from the opening sequence of the tv show),
and I would buy the album for this one track alone.

As for the rest of the album, I really wanted to like it but
the only songs I found that were good enough to stand on their own
are track 11 "Inner Universe" and track 18 "Rise [TV Size]".

If you want some albums where you can listen to the
entire album (without editing out more than half the album)
I would recommend "Cowboy Bebop" and "Cowboy Bebop: Blue";
they are both much better than this album.

Well, the second half of this CD is great. From "Inner Universe" on. Maybe it's not quite half. "Beauty is Within Us" is a particularly moving track. Especially when you listen closely or read the lyrics.

I don't drive anywhere without this album in my car. Yoko Kanno has taken her place at the top of my list of favorite composers. Her versatility blows me away. This soundtrack contains a great mixture of music types that stands well on its own besides working so well into the fabric of Ghost in the Shell: SAC. I have to say that the show just wouldn't be as good without her contributions.

Okay, I thought the first OST was amazing so I assumed OST 2 would let me down. Boy was I wrong! Not only do you get full versions of Rise and Get 9, but you are also gifted with two tracks sung by Ilaria Graziano (I Can't Be Cool and I Do).

But let me back up a bit. I knew I would love this OST more than the first one when I slipped it into the CD player in my car and Cyberbird almost ruptured my eardrums. Unbeknownst to me, the volume was up too high and I didn't turn it down until a cop looked at me funny. I think he liked what he heard but was afraid to admit it.

There are seventeen tracks. Each one is different. From techno to electronica to jazz to pop to funk to a lovely ballad titled I Do. There's a little bit of everything, which is just the way I like my music. If you own Vol. 1 you should add this one to your collection.

È assolutamente incredibile come l'autore di questa colonna sonora sia riuscito a dare vita a generi così diversi l'uno dall'altro, in grado di emettere, ad ogni brano, sensazioni forti e ogni volta nuove. Molto interessante, come per il primo CD, che si sia fatto uso di non solo inglese, ma anche altre lingue, ognuna in grado di dare un timbro del tutto particolare ad ogni pezzo. Degno di nota e del tutto inaspettato il risultato ottenuto con la miscela di italiano ed inglese di "I can't be cool".
Un solo giudizio: da comprare subito, sia per gli amanti delle colonne sonore che non.

It is unfortunate that they chose Solti's direction for the symphonic pieces in this soundtrack as he is simply one of the worst conductors for Beethoven. His direction is so slow one would think he is leading a funeral procession instead of music inspired by the French Revolution.

Of all old school directors such as Karajan, Toscanini, etc., Solti's performances are simply morbidly slow to the point of killing the grieving attendants with boredom. The cacophony of the oversized orchestra doesn't help either. Solti's interpretations are even too slow for a requiem. You think a regular interpretation of the 7th's second movement is slow? Wait 'til you hear this one; you're going to need a massage you'll be so stiff. The 9th symphony march is supposed to be a brisk revolutionary march calling the citizens to arms and to join the militia marching through a town. With Solti you imagine only a funeral procession coming through the town. In the Fifth the whole orchestra is almost struggling to slow down to match the strings. Karajan's interpretations are not particularly fast either but at least he breathes some life into them and the orchestra. I personally like Toscanini in terms of the old 20th century symphonic conductors and Gardiner's traditional interpretations that are at least at a correct speed and give the listener the impression they are marching off as part of a revolutionary batallion to bring liberty to the oppressed instead of being rolled to the morgue. Beethoven was a revolutionary anti-monarchist and strongly supported the idea of political change. Although Periah is a great pianist for Beethoven's concertos, there are simply better performances by him that fortunately aren't conducted by Solti such as on Sony with Bernard Haitink and the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra. The same goes for the performances with Axe and Yo-Yo Ma. Gidon Kramer's performance for the Violin Concerto in D is also mediocre at best: there are better violinists out there than Kremer for Beethoven.

This is just not the best CD to get quality performances of Beethoven's works. Overall, Solti's interpretations are simply too sluggish and indecipherable to represent the ideals of Beethoven's music. Solti would definitely be my last choice for anything. You won't lose anything by not buying this soundtrack that's for sure: Solti's interpretations are so slow they will simply fossilize you.

having watched a recording of Immortal beloved for a number of years the tape was past its best. now that i have the chance of ordering on line i did , and a good move it was. It was nice to see the film and things so clear, i had not see before, the writing on the love letter at the begining and tears that was shed. Iam very pleased with the dvd.

This is one of the most perfect CDs I own, it's one I come back to time and time again. The recording quality is excellent - even on the cassette, which I've finally replaced after 12 years - but even better, the musical interpretation is splendid. Anyone who thinks that classical music is no longer relevant in our culture needs to buy this CD.

This CD is perfect in my opinion. The recording is perfect, the pitch is perfect, the tempo is perfect, and the track selections are perfect. I think the album samples Beethoven's most remarkable pieces of work from his early years to his death. I have heard many recordings of the Ninth symphony that was just executed poorly; which is a shame because it is such a powerful piece. However, this album does it superbly. Sir Georg Solti and Murray Perahia did an amazing job with this album.

The album just flows really well from one piece to the next evoking a vast array of emotions along the way. Beethoven is timeless and forever will be. There is no comparison even to this day. This a wonderful tribute to the artist.

I am a big fan of classical music. Beethoven, in my opinion, was one of the best composers, Mozart 1st, Beethoven 2nd, etc. This album is very moving and filled with emotion. I am currently listening to Adagio Cantabile-from Piano Sonata No. 8-from the film album. This piece is so moving and emotional. Another piece was Moonlight Sonata which I especially liked. Beethoven loads this piece with love and emotion for his one true love. In my opinion, Beethoven was the best at writing emotional and moving music. Whenever I listen to his music, I am immersed in a world of emotion and feeling. His music is truly beautiful. Back to the album, Sir Georg Solti really captured Beethoven's genius and devotion to his music in this album. This album really accents the film. You cannot have one, you must have both the film and the soundtrack. This is a must have for classical music/Beethoven fanatics and people who want to get a great summary of Beethoven's genius. BUY THIS!!!!

This five-track EP is clearly not intended to expand on Get Behind Me Satan, the Stripes' ambitious, ethos-stretching studio album that preceded it by a few months. Instead, the studio cover version and four recent live cuts culled together here seem equal parts roots-retrenchment and chronicle of Jack and Meg White's recent gig grooves. The title studio track (a cover of a standout from Canadian identical twin punk-pop duo Tegan and Sara's '04 "So Jealous" album) has been a fan favorite in recent Stripes set lists, and here Jack White invests it with a familiar, chunky-chorded foundation and equally solid vocal hooks, setting them off with evocative, just-this-side-of-Mars guitar breaks that pay tribute to Brit invasion heroes the Yardbirds. Hailing from June '05 Brazilian shows, the spare, stop/start "Screwdriver" finds Jack warbling in early Robert Plant mode, while his haunting acoustic take of White Blood Cells' "Same Boy I've Always Known" epitomizes much of the Stripes' stripped-down, back-to-the-future appeal. L.A. radio versions of Satan's gently infectious "As Ugly As I Seem" and the distortion-drenched "The Denial Twist" are forceful reminders that the Stripes' artistic bent may be minimalist, but its musical ambitions are anything but. --Jerry McCulley

If you're new to the White Stripes, don't get this album. Get one of the five LP's, which are all incredible. This is more for people who are already fans of the band. I actually don't care a whole great deal for the cover of Tegan & Sara's hit "Walking with a Ghost," but it's alright. Actually, I liked the live tracks more. Even so, while they are all amazing Stripes songs, it is more like something intended for fans than anything else. I don't really think they're newer releases will be a template from this.

On the other hand, a new album, "Icky Thump" is coming out in awhile. We'll see how that one turns out.

Unsurprisingly, a new White Stripes album is going to overshadow a small live/cover EP like "Walking With A Ghost + 4 Live Tracks." But this little collection is worth checking out anyway,

It opens with a cover of indiepop sisters Tegan & Sara's "Walking With A Ghost," now White-Striped. This version is much hard-rockier and more angular, with jabs of rough guitar and wails from Jack White. Where Tegan and Sara sounded mildly perturbed by their "walking with a ghost," Jack sounds on the edge of breaking down completely. Steady there.

And, this having "+ 4 Live Tracks," we're then treated to some fairly good, low-key renditions of White Stripes tunes: a mellow version of "The Same Boy You've Always Known," where you can hear cheers and handclaps from the audience, the mournful "As Ugly As I Seem."

After the sorrowful pair of songs, we finally get some rockin'. Jack and Meg smash through the tune of "The Denial Twist," with snarly singing and lots of rough drums'n'bass. And after a hearty round of applause from the audience, they launch into the roaring bass of "Screwdriver."

Wedged in the midle of the last song is "Passive Manipulation," a solo where Meg sings, "Women, listen to your mothers/don't succumb to the wishes of your brothers..." Then Jack lets rip for one grand finale, a blast of raw vocals and equally raw instrumentation.

Well, the White Stripes know how to make their odds and ends worth the money -- smashing together a quirky cover with their live performance. While the cover is good -- not as enticing as the original, admittedly -- the live performance is what really rocks.

At first, things don't seem to be too energetic. Jack sounds very depressed, and only acoustic guitar and a few drums break through. But after a couple of very low-key songs, Meg and Jack start giving it their all. The result is absolutely electric -- kinetic music, ripping singing, and to judge from the applause, the audience loved it.

There's a muddy edge to the music, like many live performances, and it's a credit that their musical skills that the White Stripes can make this EP a good addition to any fan's collection. And yes, the cover is nice too.

The live stuff on here is great, I can never hear enough versions of "Screwdriver".

The title track, a cover of a Tegan & Sara song, is great too. It actually served as a springboard for me to check out the original band, of whom I am now a big fan.

Rarely in the darkwave genre do I find anybody that I consider to be interresting, however this time around, I'm satisfied. Collide is a collition of trip hop and goth that sounds like a terrible idea, but actually works out quite well. Collide will trip you out big time!

I like songs 1, 2, 7 and the band's dance remake of White Rabbit. kaRin's voice is hauntingly similar to Kate Bush; although real heavy on the Vo-Coder. Some of the songs, instead of being entrancing tend to drone on and none of the tracks pop out as a really strong single. However, I am not sorry I bought the cd and would recommend it to others because it's easy on the ears (very melodic).

This album is so darkly ethereal and richly textured that I yearn for the poet's ability to paint a vivid word picture of its seductive sound. Sadly, I am not the world reknown poet any review of this album demands, but simply your average music lover, and after musing over it so long my brain cramps, the best I can come up with is something like. "Hey, what do you get when you cross a goth chick with a computer geek?" So you will just have to use your imagination.

Imagine the perfect song for a lovesick vampire. Imagine what moonlight peeking through gathering stormclouds sounds like. Imagine a Hammer horror movie with a Moby soundtrack. Imagine the distant music that haunts the dreams of some half-mad hero from an H.P. Lovecraft story. Imagine the perfect CD for your date with that fair-skinned lovely with the black lipstick and fingernail polish.
Imagine closing your eyes and feeling the sound sweep over you, setting you hair on end and your soul on fire.

Then stop imagining it and order this CD. Wait for a dark and stormy night and slip it in. Set your imagination free on midnite wings...

I highly recommend this Cd to anyone who loves to be swept away in imagination. I find all of Collide's music highly moving and inspiring, and Chasing the Ghost is one that truly grabs you and carries you away. I can't say enough about this cd really.. but it's definitely one of my all-time favorite cds. Dark and alluring.... perfection!

For his fifth collaboration--and following the Oscar-nominated score for The Village--with director M. Night Shyamalan, James Newton Howard has delivered rather good work. Considering the supernatural tone of the movie, some of the composer's touches are predictable (a glockenspiel offering eerie punctuations, a huge choir suggestively going "oooh" and "aaah"), but he also demonstrates a sure sense of melody. Listen, for instance, to the various threads making up "Prologue." Despite the size of the orchestra at his disposal, Newton Howard always opts for subtle touches rather than wham-bam scary-movie effects. The most stereotypically actiony cue is "The Great Eatlon," but it's done as well as can be: it remains ominously restrained for quite a while, until the choir comes in to deliver an elegiac passage and the track switches to grandiose pomp. Tacked at the end of the CD are four Bob Dylan covers, including a gothic take on "The Times They Are A-Changin'" by A Whisper in the Noise, and Silvertide's rocking "It Ain't Me Babe" and "Maggie's Farm." --Elisabeth Vincentelli

I am not a fan of M.Night Shyamalan's films. I am though a fan of the composer he turns to for his films, James Newton Howard. Since I loved his work for that dreadful film "The Village", I had to hear James' latest work for the film "Lady in the Water". I was so not disappointed in what I heard. The orchestral score reminded me a great deal of his work on "The Village". It had that same essence of innocence, mysticism, danger, suspense, and melodrama. The last four tracks on the cd are Bob Dylan cover songs. I absolutely hated Silvertide's versions of "Maggie's Farm" and "It Ain't Me Babe", not so because I like the original versions (which I don't because I am not a Bob Dylan fan) but because I find Silvertide to be an extremely annoying knock off of The Black Crowes. Talk about nails on chalkboard. The singer is hideously awful. I did though love the haunting cover of "The Times They are a-Changin'" by A Whisper in the Noise and Amanda Ghost's version of "Every Grain of Sand". A Whisper in the Noise's cover was so beautifully well sung. Same with the Amanda Ghost's Bob Dylan cover. Despite the Silvertide tracks, "Lady in the Water" soundtrack is an exquisite reminder of James Newton Howard's talent.

James Newton Howard has now outdone himself AGAIN! King Kong was incredible, the Village was outsdanding, Signs was just amazingly good, and all the rest... well, you get the picture. This CD is every bit as good as what I've come to expect from Mr. Howard. It blends the suspense of Signs, the thematic excellence of the Village, and the fantasy elements of something completely original.

I truly enjoy this beautiful music, even to this day! I loved the movie and the music from the movie-- something that doesn't always happen. I have listened to it many times since I originally received it. The music is great for an easy, smooth flowing and creative listening.

IT SOUNDS LIKE ENNIO MORRICONE, BUT I ALREADY TRY IT, AND DID NOT WORK.

Lady in the Water is by far the best score James Newton Howard has written for one of M. Night Shyamalan's films. I'm a big James Newton Howard fan, but I hadn't come to expect work this extraordinary in a film by Shyamalan. The scores for The Sixth Sense and Unbreakable did not hold my attention, but the score for Lady in the Water had me from the Prologue. I was thoroughly impressed. The theme is straightforward and is heard many times, yet it is woven so many different ways you cannot be bored with it. The Healing and The Great Eatlon are the most powerful tracks, climaxing the themes into emotional and gripping music. The last four tracks are songs by Bob Dylan, and I can't say I really appreciate those being on the soundtrack, but the rest of the music is phenomenal. I highly recommend it and give it 10 out of 10 stars.
