You was only 60 pounds when you weren't wearing boots!.......2006-03-20
The line that Eazy E spewed at arch nemesis Dr Dre for his and Snoops' brutal Eazy diss "Dre Day" way back in '92. But it was true, pre NWA, Dre rocked the sequins, the eyeliner, didn't blow chronic ( don't smoke weed or cess cuz it's known to give a brudda brain daamge ), and rocked the above mentioned boots. But dress habits aside, this is pretty decent electro funk for the time, which was mid 1980's. you could kinda call WCWC a West Coast Afrika Bambaata and soul Sonic Force, but they pale in comparison to the Bam's crew. Taking influences like Bam, Cameo, Rick James and James Brown, they created a fairly decent catalog but nothing that would stand the test of time. Even though early hip hop/electro funk may sound cheesy in 2006, this sounds REALLY cheesy. It's good but you'd be enjoying Rick James( R.I.P. beyoootch ) or anything from early Bambaata days alot better, especially the "Unity" EP he did with The Godfather of Soul.
Their best of Electro........2005-09-15
Their best collection. From the original masters and from quality vinyl where there was no mastertape left anymore..
A must for Electro-Funk lovers.

Steve Peregrine Took-'The Missing Link To Tyrannosaurus'.......2004-11-24
I give this Cleopatra label release a 3 1/2 star rating. For those of you that may not know,Steve Peregrine Took(R.I.P.)was Marc Bolan's right hand man when he first formed Tyrranosaurus Rex BEFORE the duo had split and Bolan had shortened the name to T.Rex.The two released three lp's from 1967-69.Took was said to be somewhat legendary with his drug use and the pranks that he pulled.'The Missing...' is a decent display of his solo recording effort.Took(played drums&bass)is said by some to have been like UK's reply to Iggy Pop.What drew me to this CD was Took's incredible cut of "Scorpius"(Deep Space mix)on the 3-CD box 'Space Box 1970 And Beyond'(see my review). The tracks I liked best were the original mix of "Scorpius","Luck Charm" and "Seventh Sign".Second rate UK psych, but still a decent find.
The Reason why Took was not allowed to sing lead Vocals.......2004-08-13
I love every Tyrannosaurus Rex Album, but when you listen to this CD, everybody will understand why Marc Bolan didn't allow Steve Took to sing lead vocals on any Tyrannosaurus Rex LP.
Spacey, Stoned and Barrettesque.......2004-06-28
This had been released twice as 'The Missing Link to Tyrannosaurus Rex' (Cleopatra - USA) 'Crazy Diamond' (Angel Air - UK) and is based on home tapes recorded with Took and Various Pink Fairies and (most likely) Syd Barrett in various stages of intoxication and should be taken as such. It does contain some enjoyable tracks, does 'grow on you' and has a nice `spaciness' feel. There is a very high likelihood that Syd Barrett does appear on these tracks. For more information see the "So you'd like to... Learn more about Steve Peregrin Took" Guide. For the best Steve Took music released to date check out his "Steve Took's Horns" release "Blow It!!!"
Syd, Jim, Jimi, Roky, Brian W, Skip, Nico?, Holy Modals.......2002-07-19
& Took (RIP since 1980)
share an era and an ear and a rare craving for druggy (in general) entheogenic (especially) boundary-transgressing, which is a good enough reason to b[an] them... except then you'd be missing such incredible essential bodies of work in a mode of walls moving~ minds drifting~~ essence-tapping/taping~~~ hearty atom mothered slightly slurred perfection, magical accidents a-poppin', unevenness a given, but the glimmers of excellence of haunting deepfelt radiance occur, are here even where Syd Barrett knocks over a bottle or something ('Syd's Wine', aka 'Beautiful Deceiver', a cut worth the asking price)
Took recorded tons but finished few, a legendary tripper and prankster, whose legacy is secure as Bolan's other half during the glorious Tyrannosaurus Visconti days... this may be the way to work, out of the spotlight, out of the mold/mind, one's very blood sings, frayed nerves bold and captured for posterity on the basement machine~
Maybe the 100th listen just now it hit me: Most songs have words but 95-98% of them are indecipherable!!--a great some'd say revolutionary way to work, but "Hits!? Do I smell a Hit!?" -Nah!
One man's demos are another's goldmine! be our rallying cry
'the Industry' is a dirty word once one susses how poisonous-useless overproduced overconsidered music is...

Album Description
From "L.A. Law" to L.A. Latina - Emmy-nominated actress Michele Greene has embarked on a second career as a bilingual singer-songwriter with the release of her debut CD, "Ojo de Tiburón." The CD is an expression of Michele's multicultural American/Mexican/Nicaraguan upbringing. Presenting nine co-written original songs, of which six are sung in Spanish, "Ojo de Tiburón" is a seamless combination of folk and pop, Español and English, that doesn't just cross borders but denies them.
According to Greene fan Don Was, the Grammy Award-winning producer of Bob Dylan, Bonnie Raitt, and many others, "Michele is the musical missing link between the hippest bastions of American folk and the fiery romanticism of Latin music. She has the voice of an angel."
Michele's delicate vocals are accompanied by the intimate instrumental backing of Peruvian guitarist/composer/solo artist Ciro Hurtado, musical director of the Los Angeles-based Latin American band Huayucaltia, and a small group of Mexican, Peruvian and American musicians on guitars, bass, violin, cello, accordion and percussion. The singer and her supporting players achieve a rich, fluid fusion of traditional and contemporary Latin sounds and North American folk influences.
Most of the songs on "Ojo de Tiburón" are reflections on the joys, sorrows, and puzzles of love ("Siempre Volvemos," "Somos Iguales," "One Day," "Destino," "Mundo Entero," "I Know What I Know"), interspersed with understated social commentary about poverty and its price (the title song) and cultural dislocation ("La Tierra del Alma," "The Ballad of Robert Martin").
Michele's hybrid approach of simplicity, sensitivity and ethnicity achieves an accessible warmth that speaks to all listeners in the international language of music and emotion. (To insure full comprehension of her songs, all of Michele's lyrics appear in both English and Spanish in the CD booklet.)
Customer Reviews:
Haunting, compelling, y !maravilloso!.......2002-06-21
Michele Greene's lyrical, wistful soprano draws you into these beautifully produced English and Spanish ballads and acoustic melodies. Her musical star will certainly be on the rise as word about Ojo de Tiburon gets out! Fans of Lila Downs and Tish Hinojosa will love her lyrical treatments...mil gracias, Michele!

Segovia of the Bass.......2005-10-24
Freddie Baker is nothing less than "the Segovia of bass-playing," with extravagant technique to spare. Not only can he play "lead bass" as fast as anybody alive, but he has mastered all of the arcana associated, including fingerpicking (on a bass!), hammer-offs, stopped strings, popping, octaves, simultaneous "one-man band" lead & accompaniment -- to say nothing of all of the pedals and electronic manipulations.
Unlike somebody like Stu Hamm however, Baker's technique is always in service of the music. He's more likely to be found playing "sweet and low" than showing off, especially in a band configuration (he plays with In Cahoots, Bash, and several others). This solo album is somewhat out-of-character for him because it is a true SOLO album where he plays everything, and I think(?) without overdubbing. As such it's a bit more showy and "up-front" than he usually gets.
Nevertheless the variety of bass sounds and techniques he pulls up defy credence. He also plays acoustic guitar on one track and proves himself a mini-Segovia there too!
Fred T Baker - Bass Master.......2003-11-25
This is a compilation of live and studio work from fretless bass player, Britisher, Fred T Baker. Some great Pastorius influenced work using pedals and effects are mixed with his party piece solo bass efforts (see Chickin' Pickin' Good) and one lovely track which he plays on solo acoustic guitar.
If you are a fan of Pastorius, Pattitucci or Bass Guitar generally, this is an album to check out.

Marrying Catchy Melody to Brutal Metal.......2007-06-09
While Rage, the heavy metal band masterminded by Peter "Peavy" Wagner, has recorded many fine albums, "The Missing Link" may well be the band's defining moment. This was to be the final studio album with the band's first power trio lineup of Peavy, Manni and Chris....but what a way to go out! Rage had been steadily progressing in their sound, starting with their initial crude onslaught as "an upscale Slayer", continuing with their evolution into a more melodic and musically competent power trio, which began experimenting with more sophisticated and layered sounds and songs, and culminating with a "cutting of the fat" in "Trapped!", where the songs were kept efficient, heavy, and yet incredibly catchy. With "The Missing Link", Rage unleashed a grinding and tight salvo of heavy metal songs that could be classified vaguely as "power metal", but sounded far different than the Helloween-influenced bands that typify that scene.
For the most part, the songs are very focused on catchy melodies, but are executed without any "sweetening", and with a crushing guitar sound. Songs such as "Refuge" and "Raw Caress" benefit from what could almost be termed an application of pop songwriting techniques to brutally delivered metal. The entire album benefits from a no-nonsense approach to music, as Rage somehow makes the off-kilter melodic lines of the title track irresistably infectious. In stark contrast to the overall aesthetic of the album is the lengthy epic "Lost in the Ice", which further develops Peavy Wagner's own Lovecraftian "soundchaser" metaverse. With "Lost in the Ice", we see Rage's first true attempt to integrate orchestral instruments into their music, but with a much darker sensibility than other power metal bands (think Prokofiev rather than romantic influences, with a circa-1973 King Crimson twist).
The bonus tracks here include an incredibly amusing take on the Troggs' "I Can't Help Myself", and covers of the Police, goth-rockers the Mission, and Black Sabbath. If there was justice in the universe, Rage would be the ones with multiple platinum albums, as opposed to Korn, Linkin Park, or other nu-metal bands which claim to be covering the same "aggressive-melodic" ground as Rage, but are in fact far inferior and much less tuneful. Do yourself a favor, and get this CD if you haven't already.
Full of energy.......2004-02-03
This a very good RAGE album, though not their best in my opinion. It has a couple weak spots, but plenty of good tracks.
The pace is a steady gallop, rarely slowing down. However, these songs never quite approach the "rage" that other albums have (like "Black in Mind") nor the epic quality or finesse of others (like "End of All Days", my favorite album).
By no means is this album a low point, however. It has some classic Rage songs, and quite possibly showcases Peavy's voice better than anything. In fact, I would say his vocals carry this album to the heights that it does reach. He gives meaning to the voice as an instrument, if anyone does.
Great album for Rage fans, but by no means a place to judge a 20+ year-old band for new listeners.
Other albums to check out: Reign of Fear, the two E.P.s, Secrets in a Weird World, Reflections of a Shadow, Black in Mind, and End of All Days. Additionally, if you like more symphonic metal, check out Thirteen and Ghosts.
