Sounds better than in the 80s.......2007-01-10
This CD really showcases Lita's talent. Too bad we didn't hear more from her though. It's nice to have the CD since my original was on vinyl.
Best female artist in Metal !.......2005-12-08
Lita Ford's self titled Album came out after a few shabby releases and exploded onto the scene with grinding guitars, quality music and a sexy image. Who can forget the video for Kiss Me Deadly ?
This album is one of my all time faves ! I did alot of partying to this album !
Everybody knows the hits Kiss Me Deadly and Close My Eyes Forever with Ozzy but give the rest of the cd a chance...
DE-LITA-FUL.......2005-01-24
Having produced a couple of below par releases, Lita had a great attitude that just needed to be captured and assisted by a bit of spit and polish. This is the CD that did it all for her. Neither a stellar vocalist or guitarist a fantastic set of rock and rock pop numbers showcased that Lita was capable of being up there with the best of them both male and female. "Back To The Cave" opens it up with a broody sexiness that in no way needs to apologise for being about a woman who knows exactly what she wants. "Can't Catch Me" is her speed fest (realtively speaking) with an authorship by Motorhead's Lemmy. A great rock tune. "Blueberry" is my personal favourite with its sultry suggestiveness. In fact there is little sugestion and a lot of pointedness. A great song. "Kiss Me Deadly" is a cover of whom I can't recall but gave her the much needed hit single. Its okay if not as strong in my opinion as other originals on offer. "Falling In and Out Of Love" is a Nikki Sixx number which is a very classy track suggestive of the earlier Crue years in such songs as "Hollywood" and a bit of a borrow from "Too Young to Fall In Love". Other highlights are the synthed washed "Under The Gun" about rebels and the lonely lives they lead. Probably more about leather chaps on the Sunset Strip than on a mule in the desert. Closer of "Close My Eyes For Ever" is arguably the best song here although there are many. Its a grandeous duet with Ozzy. Nobody writes them like that anymore with bitter sweet longing. So as a summary there is plenty to love here and a recommendation to add this to your collection is all that remains for me to do. Recommended.
Kiss this girl deadly!.......2004-03-09
OK, Mike Chapman is best known for producing Blondie and writing songs with Holly Knight for countless artists (Heart, Tina Turner, etc.) but who would have thought he was able to jump-start Lita Ford's solo career into gear? After the forgettable Dancing On Edge and Out For Blood, Lita Ford switched labels from Polydor to BMG, got Sharon Osbourne as her manager, and some songwriting help from her producer as well as Nikki Sixx and Lemmy Kilimeister. Result: an album with a harder-edged sound and which yielded her two best charting singles.
"Back To The Cave" demonstrates Lita's fiery guitar-playing abilities and a sound that outdoes Slippery When Wet-era Bon Jovi, but then, she ups the mileage on the next song. "Can't Catch Me" with its express train guitar and organ keyboards is by far the best song here. Small wonder, as Motorhead's Lemmy wrote this. The sound more than makes Lita's point that she's no Sandra Dee, nobody to pushed around, and someone who appreciates a little taste.
The Chapman-penned "Blueberry" is a guitar rocker with Ron Nevison-like keyboard fills, but nothing that dilutes the metal in this song. With a refrain like "I'll be blue for you" and a line, "I take him hard, make it hard against the wall," well, figure it out.
Then comes the single that got Lita into the Top 40 for the first time. With metal guitar riffs and keyboards, but with pop sensibilities without diluting its power, "Kiss Me Deadly" seemed to be one exception to non-thrash groups that weren't churning out pop metal but still making it in the charts--I count Def Leppard, Cinderella and Motley Crue as other heavier than average charting groups, for example.
Which reminds me; "Falling In And Out Of Love" was co-written by Nikki Sixx of the Crue, where the protagonist does the title in her daydreams and fantasies after a real love yielded a cold winter.
"Fatal Passion" ends the heavy metal streak on this album, as things become more tempered soundwise and thematically for the next three songs, starting with the haunting keyboards and drums of "Under The Gun," soon to be accompanied by guitar.
Seeking some solace after the disillusionment of "Broken Dreams" and longing for a naive idealistic outlook of yesterday is underscored by a heavy guitar and keyboards.
The final song, "Close My Eyes Forever," a sobering and melancholy song of betrayal and regret that drove one to death was both sung and written by Lita and Ozzy, with terminal overtones: "And when we sleep, would you shelter me/in your warm and darkened grave." A tragic operatic aura of a final sleep is created by the synths in the last chorus repeat. Given what Ozzy went through with the "Suicide Solution" trials, I was surprised no-one went after him and Lita for this song.
In the early 80's, it was impossible for Lita Ford to get into the mainstream. In 1988, with groups like Bon Jovi, Europe, Poison, and Motley Crue having paved the way for hard rock/metal for mass acceptance, it was possible for Lita, and with results that outdid most male metal bands. Third time's the charm, with some deadly kissing metal.
Excellent!!.......2004-02-20
Don't listen to the putzes who tell you Lita can't rock because she's female and sexy as hell. It's sexist bullsh*t. She IS a lady who is sexy as hell BUT she rocks too and this is a great CD with some killer cuts and a helluva lot of awesome blistering guitar. Lita f*cking rocks!!

A Definitive album which should be in any Metalheads collection. A Must have, this album Rocks from the first track to the last lick
Hungry for Lita.......2005-02-22
Lita Ford became well-known for "The Runaways" in which she was a guitarist. Her solo carriere is also very famous. Her style is hard rock like it was during The Runaways. This collection is quite good...there's a couple of songs that bother me. Those songs are "Gotta Let Go" and "Only Women Bleed". Both songs are boring and "Only Women Bleed" is a Alice Cooper cover...one of the songs that I don't like. It is maybe the worst song Alice Cooper has in his collection. Other songs are very good. The duet "Close My Eyes Forever" with Ozzy Osbourne is maybe Lita Ford's best known song ever. "Lisa" is a great ballad...it is a great closing track for this collection. I wonder where's "Cherry Red" from "Stiletto". It is one of greatest songs Lita Ford has ever sung. Of course there's songs that made Lita Ford more popular...the erotic song "Hungry"...the wild songs "Kiss Me Deadly", "Shot of Poison", "Back to the Cave", "Playin' With Fire" etc.
Stars: Close My Eyes Forever, Hungry, Kiss Me Deadly, What Do Ya Know About Love
ROCK GODDESS !!!.......2004-03-19
In my twisted mind Lita Ford is female Axl Rose. She rocks like no female artist have ever rocked before or after. And this cd represents whoshe really is. all tracks on this album are treasure. mighty ballad collaboration with Ozzy, cover of Alice Cooper's "Only women bleed", best of her own rock tunes. what more can you ask for? I think she deserves way more respect than Joan Jett & Melissa Etheridge. people, buy this album!!!
F***ing fun!.......2004-02-10
Some of the reviews her take shots at Lita's singing or writing, but the CD is a blast and there aren't any women in the music scene today that have a chance in hell of replacing Lita. Avril? Britney? Jessica? They aren't even close! Whose got the sexuality and metal attitude and can play gutiar and deliver high intensity fun the way Lita does on this CD? NOBODY! Those who pick on Lita's music on this page need to check their ears, and, if they are claiming to be men, check their pants and make sure they still got cajones 'cause if you don't get it ya must be oglin Elton John. Get this CD and remember the glory days before little brats mucked up the music scene and turned it once again into a sterile disco wasteland.

Who wouldn't want to see Lita get it on with Pat Benetar or Joan Jet (or both!)?

5 Stars! Yeah, you heard me! :).......2006-02-13
I love this album. On 'Out for blood' Lita proves that she can rock with the best of them. Actually out rock them is more like it. Anyway this album and 'Dancin' on the edge' are my two favorite Lita albums. If you like awesome lead guitar buy it. And the singing is great too.
"A GREAT SOLO DEBUT".......2004-06-02
The first track, "Out For Blood", is the best on the album! It's pure-raw power! As a whole, the album is a listening experience that perfectly denotes the sound of the 80's. I have it on Tape and later got it on CD. It must be out of print now and that probably explains the prices. It's worth the money. Consider it a part of Metal history. Many people only know her from her latter releases but her first solo is definitely the hardest and most memorable. It's a shame that the "Best of" releases don't completely cover her entire catalog and to me, they don't do her justice!
Lita's first album.......2004-01-11
I have this on a record and it has a different cover with a guitar split apart. Great album. Give her credit for trying a first record. My favorite song is Out For Blood and great video if you get the chance to watch it too!
Heavy metal from the scrap heap, but Lita's still got spunk.......2003-01-19
Lost during the years 1979 and 1983 after the Runaways broke up, Lita Ford finally got a 2nd chance at stardom(on the heels of Joan Jett's sudden success)and recorded this hard rock album with bassist/producer Neil Merryweather and drummer Dusty Watson(who turns in a fabulous performance). No hits here, just lots of chunky, raw guitar and minimal production. "Just a Feeling", despite inane lyrics, is one of Lita's catchiest ballads, and "Die For Me Only" has some rip-roaring drums by Watson a la The Scorpions. Lita later badmouthed this record(and the original cover, which had her ripping a guitar apart in a black leather teddy)and indeed it's muddy, scrappy, unfocused and uneven. Still, a few songs like "Rock-n-Roll Made Me What I Am Today" can really kick, and Lita as always displays sass and flash.
A Runaway No More.......2002-03-14
As a member of The Runaways, Lita wanted to play heavy metal. "Out For Blood" is Lita's first solo effort, which provides heavy metal/hard rock songs that rock 110%, such as the title track and "On The Run". One of my favorite tracks is the ballad "Just A Feeling". Also especially noteworthy is "Rock 'N Roll Made Me What I Am Today", which is a story of Lita's teenage years in The Runaways. This album displays Lita's guitar goddess talents splendidly, I love it!

What Happened?.......2006-10-04
Lita Ford knew what she was doing in the 80s. She got away from the punk feel of the runaways and entered into her true love of metal/arena rock. After waiting a few years after dangerous curves, I was expecting something along those lines. I did not see this coming. Black has a huge influence on this album. I hate the whole grunge scene and to hear it from Lita is very upsetting. She has the skills as a musician to put out better material than this. Hopefully that day is soon. If you are a die hard fan of her like I am, you won't be too upset with this cd. The only tracks that are worth listening to are smokin toads and white lightning.
Black is wicked!!.......2004-02-20
With heavier cuts and Blues Lita adds new licks to the mix and makes for a f***ing versatile CD that strikes like white hot lightning! No folks this aint just a retread of the 80's sound but this sexy, soulful and sonic disc is still red hot rock and roll from the Black Widow and Queen of Noise herself and in cotrast it makes the pop tarts we are stuck with today look more pale than usual 'cause LITA F***ING ROCKS!!
I Love Lita, BUT............2003-03-18
The grunge influence is more than I can bear. Also, the guitar approach is much more Fender than BC Rich...if you know what I mean. For perspective, I've been a fan since 1983 and have grown to love both the "club" rock of her first two CD's to the "arena" rock of her last three (ending with Dangerous Curves). Honestly, a re-creation of the over the top guitars and anthemic vocal approach so prevalent in the late 80's / early 90's would have been much more refreshing than this effort. Other reviewers have done a great job reviewing the individual songs...this review should act merely as an overview. Bottom line - "Black" is a perfect title for this disappointing CD.
Arresting heavy metal melodrama!.......2003-01-19
"Loverman" and "Joe" are so impassioned, and "Where Will I Find My Heart Tonight" is so catchy, I would've thought this CD had 'big success' all over it. Alas, it's been hard to find these past few years, and most Lita Ford fans don't even know about it. She's in great spirits throughout, and although I like the softer stuff better than "Hammerhead", I find the entire CD a great rock-and-roll journey. Lita hasn't aged or dated a bit, she's as clever and cunning and luscious as she was in 1987. A-
HOT TRACKS !!!.......2002-08-05
ON HER 1995 ALBUM LITA INDRODUCES A LIITLE GRUNGE TO HER MATERIAL "BLACK" AND "FALL". FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE CD SHE CONTINUES TO DELIVER WHAT SHE DOES BEST : ELERTRIFYING GUITAR PLAYING AND DRAMATIC BALLADS. A SOLID EFFORT A+. ANYONE WHO IS INTO ROCK SHOULD CHECK THIS ONE OUT. Customer Reviews:
FIRE!!!!!.......2005-11-04
After listening to it non-stop since I got it last week, my verdict is this. It is clear that this sincere, gifted girl loves JESUS and is not ashamed of it. Yet, at the same time she comes CORRECT with a tight R&B style that could easily get played with all those hits on secular radio...And yes I appreciate the way she sings about RELATIONSHIPS (gasp!), because she is teaching these cats out here that you can sing beautiful songs about marriage and relationships and so forth and yet you don't have to get FREAKY to do it! ("If you want a freak boy that ain't me/If you want a one-night stand boy that ain't me" - now how many times do we get to hear that message on the radio??!!)
So, needless to say, I HIGHLY recommend this CD. First off, the vocals are beautiful - she has such a pretty tone which is a notch above most that you hear today, she is truly GIFTED vocally and I always appreciate being able to hear some pipes on an album. Also, the songs are real, talking about some of the things people are REALLY going through, ya heard? And the message is Christ - take a listen to No 2, 3 (I LOVE this one - creative), and the last ones ("He can fix it" - powerful!).
Now, the only complaint I have is some of the skits were a little predictable, if you don't like skits on CDs those might annoy you. But please, that does not by any means take away from the blessing that is wrapped up in these songs! Every single one of them is like, a hand-wrapped gift from God to so many in the hip-hop generation, showing how it's supposed to be DONE!
The hottest new female artist yet............2005-11-01
I loved the life in stereo cd but this cd takes it up a notch. I agree with everything the previous reviewer said. He summed it up quite well. On this Cd, she is living the Christ like lifestyle. It is more life situations than Jesus talk on every song. I can especially relate because I see so many gospel artists that have Jesus on every song but their life doesn't reflect what they sing. Shei holds on barres about her lifestyle and you can tell who she represents on everysong eventhough Jesus's name may not be mentioned. Whether she is telling you about how God spared her life, or how to reconsile your marriage
or how to difuse a bad situation or how to respect your self as a lady. Shei is doing pure ministry in its rawest form. Then she summs it all up after the last song with an invitation to accept Jesus. Mannn. That's Hot...... SHei keep doin' your thing girl, you are setting a new standard. Even if you just love good R&B this CD is a must have....
Not your average Christian album, but it's a must-buy!.......2005-10-28
On Shei Atkins' first CD "Life In Stereo," there were about certain songs that were good enough to keep rewinding over and over again, though overall it's a good album. This time around on "The Lita Mae Show," every track will have you rewinding. And this CD is different from other Christian album simply because the focal point of the album is moreso about relationships than it is talking about Jesus, which was the format of her last album.
By relationships I mean situations where your friends encourage you to reconcile their marriage("Call Me,") , leaving that other man or woman to go back to your spouse("I'm Going Home"), dropping that man that's clearly not trying to be about you("Sudden Change"), resisting to temptation to smack that woman who's going around town talking about your man("Lose My Cool"), and my favorite, not trusting the gossip when people say they saw your man/woman with someone else("Try Again Part 3").
She also gives shout-outs to all children who have big dreams("One Day") and the men who are working hard to support and love their women and families("Ladies to the Fellas"), which as a man I really appreciate. She tells the story about how God spared her life on "I Got Shot." But don't worry, she does have songs dedicated to Jesus. There's the upbeat "No One," and the slow tracks "He Can Fix It" and "He's There."
This CD is also different because it layed out like a talk show, hence the title. Think of a cleaner version of Jerry Springer done as a musical. For example, "Lose My Cool" starts off with some girl coming on stage who shamelessly talks about someone's man and taunts her, saying "Yeah I talked about your man, and what?!? What you gonna do about it?" and then it cuts to "Lose My Cool." So it's really a creative album, and the skits are too funny!
Overall it's a very well produced album, the tracks are hot, the skits are too funny, and there's definitely a godly message about relationships. But even if you're not into Christian music, this is a high quality CD that anyone can enjoy.

Album Description
After working with power-pop hero Mike Chapman on Stiletto, Lita Ford switched producers on Dangerous Curves and joined forces with another in-demand studio ace, Tom Werman. The result is a decent collection of slick, commercial hard rock that isn't much different from its predecessor. Glossy pop-metal cuts like 'Black Widow,' 'Hellbound Train' and 'Playin' With Fire' aren't the gems that Ford is quite capable of delivering (anyone familiar with her work with the Runaways knows just how talented she is), but they're fun and spirited. 'Bad Love,' meanwhile, is a noteworthy example of her dramatic ballad style. Ford gets in some nice guitar solos, reminding us that she definitely has solid chops. 11 tracks. 2001 remastered reissue.

One of best of late 80s pop metal albums.......2004-09-17
I would place this as Lita's most overall enjoyable album, despite the fact that there are some bigger hits and very memorable songs on both Lita and Stiletto. This may be a bit slick for some tastes, but to me it is just an enjoyable listen from beginning to end. Shot of Poison seems to be every bit as good as Kiss Me Deadly. Bad Love is a good ballad. Virtually every song has good hooks. She plays her badgirl image for all it's worth. I find it every bit as good as the best albums by Poison, Bon Jovi,Crue, etc. And she's sexy. And she can play guitar just as well as the guys in those bands. If you like catchy pop metal, doubt you'll be dissapointed.
Beautiful and Deadly..........2004-08-01
My recollection of Lita Ford derives from the time I saw her in concert at The Country Club in Reseda with My friend Rick at the time, and our dates. She wore a skin-tight silver lame' body suit with a plunging neck-line, a studded belt around her waist with a huge belt-buckle inscribed with the word "Bitch" thereupon - and after the show, she actually leaned down towards the front row invariably displaying lovely cleavage, and bearing a bottle of wine or champagne to share with her fans in the front row.
I recall her fling with Nikki Sixx of Motley Crue primarily, her previous band The Runaways, and of course, that unforgettable duet with Ozzy Osbourne "Close My Eyes Forever"; her music contained a couple of catchy tunes from time to time, but it really derived a more distinctive character with the addition of the keyboards. Then it tool on a more dangerously erotic appeal accentuating her femme fatale persona - "beautiful and deadly" as she fancies herself. This took place with her prime release "Kiss Me Deadly" {containing the afore-mentioned Ozzy duet}. "Dangerous Curves" also certainly carries that theme to the hilt with songs like "Shot of Poison", "Playin' With Fire", "Black Widow", and "Little Black Spider" would indicate. Dangerous Curves has its moments, but it definitely comes in second to "Kiss Me Deadly" in most respects. Of particular mention, I did enjoy "Hellbound Train" with witch-cackles and all.
She actually did initiate what perhaps may be described as "dance metal" {which would rally not be Metal in actuality, but more in the lines of "hard rock"}, and serves as a passionate encounter with a lover, or stripper music for erotic performers. There certainly is an energetic quality to her music that makes one want to move and gyrate, especially in the bed chamber "in a super-sized bed", as it were.
If Stiletto was a stiletto, Dangerous Curves is a sword!.......2004-03-10
Or should that be scimitar? Where the diluted Stiletto, Lita Ford's followup to her breakthrough Lita album, only had a few songs to recommend it, such as "Lisa," Dangerous Curves shows Lita Ford back in top form, showing even more teeth than she did on Lita, teeth meaning her ferocious lead guitar and powerful vocals that belts out lyrics in songs like "What Do Ya Know About Love".
The chugging and hard-driving "Larger Than Life" with its visceral 80's drum and pulsing guitar attack demonstrates that she still teeth sharp enough to take on many male metal rockers. This is by far the heaviest song here. And if Cinderella and Britny Fox took heed, they would've come up with something like "What Do Ya Know About Love." Well, maybe not, as Lita's asking the question to the stereotypical macho type in snakeskin boots who's spreading himself all over town at the cost of little girls cryin' out loud.
The single "Shot Of Poison" isn't as hard-driving as "Kiss Me Deadly," with the same synths and guitar combination, only more radio-friendly. With Jim Vallance as co-songwriter and Heart's Howard Leese providing extra guitars, it was sure to make the Top 40.
"Bad Love" is a hauntingly stark and bitter ballad, with tempered keyboards and fiery guitar, even better than "Lisa." It's the end of the road with this song, with "I could never forgive you/and I damn sure won't forget/in heaven or hell every tear that I've cried/will come back to haunt you yet" being a pretty cold way to say "end of story." With the keyboards, I can picture Heart doing this on their 80's Ron Nevison albums.
"Playin' With Fire," also co-written by Jim Vallance, is another slamming tune, that could've been a single with the catchy chorus. "Little Too Early" is another singleworthy tune due to the lighter sound (at least compared to the other songs here).
The chugging rhythm section in the beginning does indeed mimic a train going down the tracks in the Bon Jovi-ish "Hellbound Train," with the wild as all-out protagonist's baggage being a devil in the brain, a fistful of whisky, a suitcase full of sin, and my favourite, "a thousand nasty habits underneath my skin."
"Black Widow," a throwback to harder-edged 80's metal, with the multiple backing vocalists in the chorus, is a chilling look at a seductive human equivalent of that deadly spider. Best lyrics: "Making love on a suicide bed/once you taste that poison darling, you're dead."
"Holy Man" begins with Lita and company singing the chorus a capella a la Bon Jovi's "You Give Love A Bad Name," but with a melody like Belinda Carlisle's "Heaven Is A Place On Earth." The similarities end there, and there's a reverse theme going on in the religious motifs. She demands to be lead into temptation, fair enough, but the analogy is completed when "You made the darkest night in my life into Judgment Day," which is a dark equivalent of "you made the brighest night in my life into heaven." She really catches fire for this one--pun intended.
"Tambourine Dream" is a mid-paced song, while the closing "Little Black Spider" is a short quiet electric guitar instrumental.
This album should have been another musical hallmark for Lita Ford, so why was it overshadowed? In looking at its release date, 1991, the answer comes in two words: grunge, Metallica.
LITA ROCKS!!.......2004-02-20
Yes this sounds like what it is: a fun CD from a bygone era when Rock & Roll still rocked and everybody wasn't depressed in flannel shirts or into quasi-disco pop crap. Lita was tough, and sexy and could play the guitar and had humor and attitude and guts that Avril and Britney and that ilk can only dream about. God Bless You Lita and ROCK ON!!
A bit dated and too-slick, but Lita's got the grooves.......2003-01-25
I recently put this on at a party and everyone was groaning, "what year is THAT from?" I guess it does sound like a relic from the Poison/Ratt/Twisted Sister era, but Lita's got some great grooves on this CD, beginning with the sinful "Shot of Poison" on down to the hellacious "Hellbound Train". "Holy Man" and "Tamborine Dream" show off a nice, commercial hard-pop sensibility, and "Little Too Early" is a ferverishly catchy ditty(co-written by one of Lita's heroes, Ritchie Blackmore). But "Black Widow" and "Bad Love" don't measure up as the "slower" songs(not really ballads)and I didn't much care for "Larger Than Life" which is trying too hard for pop single status. B+ overall, and the blurry-blue shots of Lita in the booklet are menacingly sexy.
