The Austin DJ with the 10-gallon hat returns for Both Sides of the Picture, using an uptempo/downtempo split for his 2-disc sequel to 2002's People. A wealth of swooping melody on CD 1 (People Chilling) shows off the light trance production that has made D:Fuse a favorite with long-time practitioners of the genre like Paul Oakenfold. Unfortunately, D:Fuse spends too long on borderline new age like Piano Heaven's "Subtech" to build a convincing blue-room mood. The trip finally starts about midway through with the teasing beats and cascading keyboards of Timewave Zero's beautiful "Joy." CD 2 (People Clubbing) concentrates on energetic house, starting with his "Music is About You" manifesto, and continuing through to the cheesy but delicious remake of U2's "New Year's Day." While a bit spotty, D:Fuse's sense of adventure carries the mix, successfully capturing the DJ's kinetic live act into the studio. -Matthew Cooke

3 out of 5 stars i wish i could buy cd1 only.......2006-02-13

Cd1 has some un-f'n-believable loungie house on it. The last 4, 3 of which are his own, are without a doubt some of the best lounge-house i have ever heard, deeper and funkier even than miguel migs with #12 bieng the stand-out. While the first half of the cd is not chill or lounge it can only be described as ambient, but still not bad if that is what you like.

Cd 2 on the other hand is nothing but cheezie house/trance.But the bright side is that if you like cheezie house/trance then you will love it ;-))

1 out of 5 stars ugh. yuk. .......2005-02-20

i bought this cd on a whim. those are crazy things, these "whims".

i thought maybe, just maybe this cd would be good. i was wrong.

on first listen, it was ok. but, everytime i've listenend to it since, it keeps getting worse.
it DOES NOT grow on you, and it WILL NOT grow on you, so don't even try. buy a miguel migs cd instead. much, much better. the last song "NYD" i thought hd the most potential for greatness. but it is so corny, cheesy, and terribly remixed that it makes me embarrassed to listen to it, even when i'm alone! this is utter garbage. disc 1, "people chilling", i now use as a coaster when i have people chilling at my house. don't wanna leave rings on the table. disc 2 "people clubbing" i put a lighter to it, just to watch it melt. i had more fun dstroying hese discs, than i did listening to it.

3 out of 5 stars Is any of D:Fuse old stuff more like CD#1 ?!.......2004-07-25

I only heard 30 second sound-samples of each track...CD #1 seemed like really good melodic ambient trance...whereas CD#2 seemed like ALOT harder trance. The sound quality seemed Excellent on Both sides (UN-Like some other mixes that i've heard recently). SO, which of D:Fuse's older CD's are more like CD#1 ?????!

5 out of 5 stars Just loved it.......2003-12-07

Being a raver that got started partying in Austin I have a lot of respect for the DJ's that got started there. This double disc captures the essence of D:Fuse like never before. The first disc is very chill. While normally I don't like the chilled out club music I found this disc to be simple and amazing. Nice teasing beats to get you ready for the unbelieveable second disc. The second disc is unreal. It fuses together house and trance to create a unique sound that once you hear is unmistakable. This release has moved into my top ten favorite CD's after only two breif listenings. Buy it if you are looking for something out of the box.

5 out of 5 stars Another Amazing Release from One of America's Best.......2003-06-05

After D:Fuse's phenomenal last release People, I've been anxious for the release of his next mix and 'Both Sides of the Picture' delivers big time! The brilliant disc 1 includes what in my opinion is the track of the year - D:Fuse's original 'Everything with You' featuring Jes - this track deserves and should receive big radio play. Disc 2 of 'Both Sides of the Picture' and tracks like his 'House Sound of the Future' perfectly captures his unique and diverse progressive sound which makes the experience of D:Fuse live so unforgettable.
