Album Description
On this debut album from Kentucky born BLACK STONE CHERRY you can hear their influences including Led Zeppelin, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and Black Sabbath, but also a heavy side touching more in a Black Label Society vein. The track "Lonely Train" is gaining traction at radio. The track is produced by Richard Young of the Kentucky Headhunters, who is also the father of drummer John Fred Young. With songs about moonshine smuggling, rain wizards and women, how can you go wrong?
Customer Reviews:
Rocks Right Out of the Gate.......2007-05-29
Terrific debut that kicks from beginning to end.
There's something both new and familiar about their sound; influences definitely worn on their sleeves but a great modern edge too.
These guys have written a very mature sounding album, full of great hooks, melodies and a monster wall of guitars.
Early highlights for me include 'Maybe Someday' and 'Lonely Train' but you could pick this album up at any point and find a killer track.
Production-wise, it's nice and straightforward; you get drums, bass, guitars and vocals - and lots of 'em. Great mix, very direct and sounds like something that could be really great live.
I hope there's lots more like this in them.
Highly recommended.
Great debut CD! .......2007-05-26
I heard the 'Lonely Train' song on the radio so I decided to pick this up and man, I havent taken it out of my CD player since! Great riffs, lyrics, the whole package. Sounds rather raw, but thats how rock and roll is supposed to sound. Reminds me of a Southern-Fried Black Sabbath, or a heavier Pride and Glory. If your looking for a fresh sounding, southern flavored metal CD and your as tired as I am by all these 'musicians' that can't play a note to save their life, then grab this CD and CRANK! Fans of Black Label Society, Corriosion of Conformity and any amped up southern rock will love this.
Great southern rock.......2007-05-17
I was introduced to these guys on, of all things, Headbanger's Ball. Though not metal, they bring an edge and sound to this brand of music the likes of which hasn't been seen since Guns n Roses. The powerful, long-ranged vocals...the tight riffs...the squealing solos. Black Stone Cherry has everything you could ask for in a Southern Rock band.
I see a bright future for these guys. A very impressive debut to say the least.
Awesome Band!!.......2007-05-13
My husband and I saw Black Stone Cherry in concert in Paris in April. They were amazing and such nice guys. We hung out with them all night while Hinder played on stage. Great sound and you must see them live!!!
Simply kicks a__.......2007-05-12
I don't usually buy music by new groups as I am tryin to catch up on all the old album music I have. I decided to try this one for some reason, and it was well worth it, I have a hard time takin it out of the player. Best new music I've heard by a new group in a very long time. I read the liner notes and can tell they are also a good group of young guys, givin thanks to God and their families, that says a lot right there. Anyway if U are readin this don't hesitate to buy this CD.

Goldfrapp's Black Cherry inhabits a dark alley, bristling with urban menace and throbbing with a deep electronic pulse--a far cry from their breezy debut, which gently led the listener to a fairytale aural utopia occupied by Parisian pop, whistling divas and baroque masters. Having given up the countryside for a neon-lit studio, Alison Goldfrapp and Will Gregory have infused Black Cherry with an intensity and brooding claustrophobia that's both exuberant and sensual. Simultaneously mellifluous and mechanical, tracks such as "Train," with its fiery industrial rhythm, steer Goldfrapp dangerously close to the ailing electro-clash scene, before veering back to more familiar territory with the likes of the sultry, downbeat "Black Cherry" and languid dreamy ambience of "Forever." Elsewhere our Hampshire-bred heroine gets deep down and dirty on "Twist," an ode to oral that finds Goldfrapp waxing lyrical to a fierce driving Kraftewerk-esque synth. No Felt Mountain to get lost in, but at least there's "Hairy Trees" to make up for it. --Christopher Barrett
Album Description
2003 album follows their debut Felt Mountain, Black Cherry is a Moroder meets Morricone affair, sexually explicit with a dancefloor electro flavor. 10 tracks. Mute.
Customer Reviews:
Black Cherry Delicious.......2007-06-27
It looks as though Felt Mountain has been deserted. The subtle synths of that album have been replaced with drum machines and the kind of whistling, swishing, buzzing, mechanical sounding synthesizers we're used to hearing in rock, pop and dance music. I adored "Felt" and I also really dig this CD but fans expecting "Return to Felt Mountain" are going to be pretty disappointed. Songs such as "Deep Honey", "Hairy Trees" and "Forever" (minus the percussion) come somewhat close to the feeling of "Felt" but all in all this disc is about the beats. On the plus side, Alison's vocals are luscious, warm and sexy throughout the project and we get to hear partner Will Gregory's vocals on at least one song. The standout tracks on this disc for me include the title song, "Train", "Deep Honey", the sexy "Twist" and the glam "Strict Machine". I'm recommending "Black Cherry" with reservations.
In too many commercials.......2007-03-27
It's a shame how many commercials some of these songs turn up in.. ah, well, I guess artists' gotta eat too. Otherwise, this is a very underappreciated album.
Good Album, But Not Great.......2007-02-19
I loved Goldfrapp's Felt Mountain, which in my opinion was their best album which showcased Allison's stunning and ethereal vocals. Black Cherry as well as Supernature takes a great leap--we know for sure that Goldfrapp will probably not be going back to making an album like Felt Mountain again. Apparently, they want to make music that sells, the music in Feltmountain didnt. Black Cherry is apparently more accessible to most listeners. Overall, it's not a bad album, there are lots of catchy tunes on here. But I can't help but feel a bit ambivalent about this album. It's good, but yet i feel as if lots of the songs are too weighed down with the drum synthesizers, beeps, vocals, etc, which also completely drowns Allison's wonderful voice! I think the most annoying thing of all that turns me off is that many songs have been background music for a whole lot of cell phone and car commercials...at times i get a sense that most if not all their songs can be background music for commercials. There are a few great tracks, esp. the ballads. But i really can't help but feel like Goldfrapp is trying too hard to be commercial and edgy...they used to be more unique, but now their music seems way too similar to other artists now. i miss the Felt Mountain days. I'm not saying that they should make another album EXACTLY like it, there's only one Felt Mountain. I just wish their direction could have stayed while still doing the disco/electronic thing. I'm not sure if this album is worth buying, but its definitely worth listening to.
driving music.......2006-11-13
this album is cool to listen to while driving at night. keeps me awake.
Cherrylicious.......2006-11-10
Black Cherry is an amazing album from Golfrapp. Quirky lyrics set to powerful synth rhythms produce a sound that is sexy and sweet and enjoyable.

Fresh From The Tree.......2006-04-18
I really haven't seen a whjole lot of great performers that truly rocked last year. While Sheryl Crow and Melissa Etheridge have made some decent tracks, there really was not much with the female singer/songwriter bit. For K.T. Tunstall, she really is one of those surprising faces out right now, and her latest opening single is just delightful. Black Horse & Cherry Tree from her debut record Eye On The Telescope is a unique freshness that really delivers well. The song is exciting to listen to because it isn't like what is on radio right now, and welcomes in a real style of Blues, Soul & Rock mixed into one. I like this song a whole lot, and it is jut a good guilty pleasure on the radio right now. I hope people here welcome her with open arms, and she keeps up those great tracks like this one.
Song: A-
Makes Me Happy.......2005-12-17
This song is really awesome. It rocks. If you've been looking for a song that makes you want to get up and dance, this is it. Or you can just move around in your chair. ha! It combines two different styles of singing--wooo, wooo and tunstall's ever changing throaty variations. (It's so nice to have a singer vary her voice. It adds so much more color and richness). The music and the lyrics are both cool. You have to give it a try.
The second song on the CD is very different, but quite good. It is more bluesy-folksy and you want to listen because the lyrics are good as well.
Cherry Trees and Black Horses rule okay!.......2005-03-21
What a fabulous song! I heard it on MTV and I had to download it to my computer.
It has a folksy kind of charm and yet it is not a folk song per se.
K.T. Tunstall has dry throaty voice that belts out the lyrics whilst she strums away on her guitar and you find your foot tapping away to the song whilst humming along to the rhythm.
A great and unusual song for all to enjoy.

F.A.N.T.A.S.T.I.C.!.......2006-02-02
I've got the original music (including v2 and v3), the books (the best is Heitland's The Man from U.N.C.L.E. Book; still in print);
the 22 VHS tapes issued in the early 1990's (a haphazard collection issued in no particular order of episodes that boasted famous guest stars). Can I please get the whole series on DVD? I have not seen Mother Fear toying with Illya (The Children's Day Affair) in over 40 years.
At LAST the complete series ORIGINAL soundtrack, the wait is over!.......2005-07-12
Many of us have always thought The Man From UNCLE had the best music for a TV series ever, and this three double CD release confirms this. Wow! I'd be just happy with one CD, but having SIX (three double CDs packages) is absolutely out of this world, I mean, a lifetime wait come true.
Indeed, this is an unbelievable collection of three double CDs packages with the complete series soundtrack, and I mean the complete music, not a tune is missing.
And this is the ORIGINAL Man From Uncle music. Let me stress the point: this is the four years ORIGINAL soundtrack with the original recordings as they were heard throughout the series, not a no-name orchestra doing personal versions of the stuff. The audio transfer is very, very good, the music from late episodes is even in stereo.
Each individual CD carries over 70 minutes of music. All in all there you have the four TV seasons main titles and all, absolutely all of TMFU unforgetable music.
This is not a chronological release, meaning, all CDs have a mix of music from all four TV seasons. Volume 1 is heavier on early TV seasons stuff, fans of Jerry Goldsmith will love it. Those of us who prefer what Gerald Fried and later Richard Shores did with TMFU music, then volume 2 is mandatory. If you are a fan, you can't miss any of these six CDs. However if buying all three double packages is too much for you, you must go with Volume 2, no questions asked. Volume three is the weakest of them as it brings "suites" and a whole CD with "The Girl From Uncle" soundtrack, but you have a bonus "Open Channel D" beeper.
Each package is gorgeous, each with a glossy color booklet with extensive liner notes with details on how each tune was written to a specific TV series episode and how it was used onwards. You have bios on the composers, on how the recordings were made, even an overview on how many instruments were available in each of the years the music was recorded.
So, throw away your Hugo Montenegro Man From Uncle CD, this is the REAL thing.

Still Grinning...After All These Years........2004-05-23
Awesome album! Kind of a melodic punk with a bit more of an alternative feel to it. It's really cool how the songs kinda run into each other and make it sound like one long song with some breaks and changes. Also, the cover has to be one of the coolest i've seen in a long time....it's a little girl with a huge grin on her face holding a can of 'black cherry soda' in a field. I've had this CD for nearly a decade and still love it!
WOW!.......2003-10-31
i bought this album like 8 years ago. really good. it sounds a lot like Fugazi, Samiam, Dag Nasty, and early Green Day. but then again it doesnt sound like any of those bands. it actually has a very different sound....emocore, grungy, punk rock, and post-hardcore. its definently worth 5 stars. they are very under-rated.

Customer Reviews:
Mac users beware.......2007-07-07
I got this because I'm both a Goldfrapp fan and an m83 fan. I was really excited when I heard on wikipedia that there was an m83 remix of Black Cherry. This disc is a really hard find. I couldn't find it in any store I went to in Seattle, anyhow. The m83 remix lives up to expectations; it takes a 3-star song and refreshes it into 4-star material. In terms of sound, it is similar to m83's Before The Dawn Heals Us era.
The Twist remix by Kurtis is definitely NOT good. It's a very forgettable "jungle-pop" drum machine mix. Listening to it only made me pine for the original Twist song, which still stands as one of Goldfrapp's best songs. Disappointing.
Mac Users like myself will only be treated to half of the disc content. The music videos on the disc are in some sort of format not recognized by OS X (likely WMP Video.) Also a shame but not a dealbreaker.
