It doesn't happen much, but there are times when the departure of a group's most prominent player inspires the rest of the act to get seriously bizzy. Strength & Love, a tight disc that skitters from track to shiny track with imagination and a renewed sense of rap's widened boundaries, makes Bone Thugs-N-Harmony a prime example. Without Bizzy Bone to layer a drizzle of Midwestern vocal weirdness over their sound, Layzie, Krayzie, and Wish Bone call in a crew of hard-hitting helpers: Akon delivers twice, first on the melting "I Tried" and again on the weepy "Never Forget Me," Mariah Carey flits through "Lil Love" alongside Bow Wow, and Twista and Yolanda Adams also make reputation-enhancing appearances (Twista by barreling through "C-Town" at breakneck speed and Adams by giving it up gorgeously for God on "Order My Steps (Dear Lord)"). Best of all about this proud-making comeback disc is its clever use of samples: "Wind Blow" pins the Fleetwood Mac chestnut "The Chain" down to urban pavement without wrecking its spirit, and the smartly produced "The Streets" updates the vibe of Bobby Womack's timeless "Across 110th Street" while preserving its grit-covered class. --Tammy La Gorce
Customer Reviews:
OK .......2007-07-13
I was a bit disapointed because there are only two or three songs on the CD that I play. I guess my expectations were too high and too reminiscent of their old stuff. My son plays it non stop, hence the reason 3 stars!
Their best since The Art Of War.......2007-07-08
To me,this is the Bone cd is the best since the Art Of War. I liked some tracks off of Resurrection, and Thug Stories was the best cd in a long time, but this tops both of those albums with no problem at all. I like every track on here except for 2 of them. Tha Bone boys are back and they brought they fire flow that they were known for in the begining!!!
If you still doubt this groups talent then listen to the album opener Flow Motion...makes my jaw drop every time that I hear that track!
Bump In The trunk should become another Bone classic. They actually make "Wind Blow" work 100%! The first single is a sad song about trying in life, but also kind of inspirational at the same time. C-Town with Twista is awesome, everyone tears their verse up! 9mm and Gun Blast remind me of them 'ole Bone Boys classicks!!!
If you ever been a fan of Bone, then pick this classick up! Bone boys are back 110%!
My boyz are back.......2007-06-30
I love this album... been a fan since creepin on ah come up and I have been very critical of them on their past couple of albums. This one reminds me of the old Bone Thugs but with a more updated sound. I love it and any one who hasn't heard them entire album needs to go pick it up soon! Love my boyz!!!!
I agree, best since Art Of War........2007-06-30
I'm a big fan of the group and have been since I first heard E1999 back in the day. I like Bone stuff most normal people don't, but even I haven't been 'feeling' their latest albums.
Ok, honestly, they have flat out sucked in recent years.
This one is better than decent, good? Not great but good. Definitely the best since Art of War. Their original style is still absent, they do sound like an entirely different group for most of the album, I'll admit. Bone has had a couple of songs, solo, on singles or on other's albums that were better than most on this album released recently (Ridin' Dirty for example)
Easy 4/5 compared to rap on the market now, 4/5 compared to albums they've released recently. However, I wouldn't rank it so high if this had been an immediate release after E1999.
Flowmotion reminds me of old Bone Thugs, definitely the highlight of the album for me, it's one of the best songs on this album and the style reminds me of old-school bone thugs.
They have a more solid 4/5 song to number of song ratio on this album than any Bone album since E1999.
There isn't a single song that really stands out as complete garbage, some subpar, but no garbage.
Can't say there is a single song on this album that would force me to change the radio station if it came on, which is saying a lot for Bone Thugs nowadays.
My favorites on the album:
1. Flowmotion
4. I Tried (Akon and Bone work really well together, even if this song isn't Bone-style)
7. Order my steps
9. 9MM
11. Candy Paint (very pop-like song so it's embarrasing but I can't help it)
14. Never Forget Me (again, Akon and Bone work really well together)
On the Akon songs, I'm not a huge fan of Akon but he really does work well with Bone Thugs in these two songs.
It's The Thuggish Ruggish Bone Once Again!.......2007-06-26
With the absence of Flesh (when was he ever a full-fledge member?) and the enigmatic Bizzy Bone, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony is down to the core trio of Wish, Layzie, and Krayzie Bone. And even though they've been holding it down most of the time, the years haven't been very friendly to the Cleveland natives. After years of disappointing projects and a fan base that is completely shaken up, the crew is fighting to prove their importance to the ever-changing rap game. Strength & Loyalty could spell either a inevitable end or a prosperous beginning for the new lineup. The Game holds his own next to the Bone members on "Streets" with help from Will.i.am on production. The super radio-friendly "I Tried" is a no-brainer with the mellow beat riding under their subdued vocals and guest vocals from Akon. Akon pops up again on the somber album closer "Never Forget Me." Mariah Carey and Bow Wow infuse their talents into "Lil Love" while Swizz Beatz brings his expertise for "Bump In The Trunk." And the brilliant pairing of the collective with their fellow Midwesterner Twista for "C-Town" marries the rap styles nicely since they are so similar. Thankfully though, Bone can sustain without the collabos as well. "Sound The Same" speaks to the ever repetitive story of people trying to escape the hood anyway they can. The sinister sounding "9MM" is a throwback to their darker early days of rapping, along with thugged-out "Gun Blast" and the hyperactive delivery of "Flowmotion." And even though the Fleetwood Mac sample on "Wind Blow" is out of place on this LP, Strength & Loyalty redeems the faith in the group by their long-standing fans. And with the remaining members of Bone Thugs-N-Harmony each showing their worth throughout the album, there's no reason for anyone to write them off just yet.

DOWN TO THE BONE SUPERCHARGED.......2007-07-03
I WAS WONDERING IF THIS CD WAS GOING TO BE AS GOOD AS ALL OF DTTB'S OTHERS.IT IS GREAT!! I LOVE IT !! IF YOU LIKE JAMES BROWN & ROY AYERS, YOU GET AN EXTRA TREAT!!THE CD IS WONDERFUL!! THE MORE I PLAY IT, THE MORE I LIKE IT!! I HAVE SEEN THEM IN PERSON TWICE & KEEP WANTING TO GO BACK!! THEY DON'T BEGIN TO GET THE RECOGNITION THAT THEY DESERVE!!I LOVE THEIR MUSIC!!!DTTB is great in person!! I saw & heard them w/ a full band & they kept you rockin!! If you have a chance to see them live & don't, you are really missing the best!! Corrina Grayson is Great on Supercharged!!
A truly great fusion of Jazz and Funk........2007-07-01
This is the new fantastic, great new album from the British contemporary Jazz Funk outfit.
"Supercharged" is the funkiest set to date.
Every track is a winner.
The title song is a full on Funk instrumental on which the horn section excel, as is the slower "Funkin' Around".
"Parkside Shuffle" is a mellower summer like groover (hints of Ramsey Lewis).
Hil St Soul adds her soulful voice to the Incognito like "Smile To Shine" wicked b-line!
Roy Ayers adds scat and vibes to the Jazz Funk stunner "Electric Vibes".
"Space Dust", "Make It Funky" and "Hip City" are fine instrumentals that fuse Jazz and Funk.
The horn and rhythm sections are cooking. Essential.
Prepare to have a great time !!!
This CD is "Jazzy"..........2007-06-27
...I didn't want to say it "Rocks". But it does.
Down to the Bone puts out EXCEPTIONAL CD's. This one is no different.
The song "Supercharged" has got some nice high energy output.
The cool sounding "Smile to Shine" with sharp vocals from Hil St Soul is very infectious!
"FUNKIN' Around" (Bolded to avoid a mis-reading mistake) has got some stong horn melody and definitely a "toe tapper".
"Shake it Up" featuring Corrina Greyson is somewhat of a dissapointment however. It sounded like more of a Pop song to me.
The subdued "Hip City" climaxes to a stong guitar crescendo and finishes off very cleanly.
"Space Dust" is typical funky Down to the Bone, and is reminiscent of many of their famous cuts.
"Make it Funky" has an element of hip-hop, and is a refreshing change of pace from some of the other songs on the CD.
If you like Down to the Bone, you will like the other tunes, but my fingers are getting tired from typing!
I higly recommend the entire album! (OK - just this last note: You GOTTA listen to Cosmic Fuzz! It's is so cool, it's COLD!)
(Oh yeah, one last comment: I own all the other DTTB CD's, and saw them live 3 times. If you like their CD's, don't disappoint yourselves. Keep the dream, and DON'T see them live. They're not as clean and sharp when they're on tour. They don't travel with a full band compliment, and the lead sax guy, "Shilts", likes to be "buzzed" and drink beer as he plays, I saw him have at least 4 Corona Extras. :-(
Turbo Edition.......2007-06-22
I am pleased with this release. As the CD title suggests they took their sound and supercharged it. The arragnements are a little stronger, the electric guitar a little louder and the funk is still alive and well. This is great music to put on when you are hanging out with friends.
Smoothjazz.com Review.......2007-06-20
With reckless, raw energy and rhythm hurling towards you at the speed of a slide trombone in the Tower of Power horn section, SUPERCHARGED is Smooth Jazz with a nitrous injection. This is DTTB's 7th release to date and by far the most irresistible. That's a big claim given the fact that this is the group that gave us "Long Way From Brooklyn" and "Electra Glide," two format staples. SUPERCHARGED burns rubber off the starting line with the title track and let me tell you, it never stops for gas. The guys added three additional horns to the already sizzling non-stop, sax-o-matic playing by Paul "Shilts" Wiemar. Founding member Stuart Wade produced and arranged the stellar SUPERCHARGED. He's managed to capture the very essence of funk and soul. Think Sly & the Family Stone, Average White Band, Booker T. & The MGs and the aforementioned T.O.P. Special guests include Hil St. Soul on the feel-good groove "Smile to Shine," Royer Ayres on the slick joint "Electric Vibes," and Corrina Greyson on the contagious "Shake It Up." Eleven tracks that say summer... even in the middle of winter. This is unabashed, pure, unadulterated, thick and gooey F.U.N.K. There are a lot of choices out there with regard to music these days. Down To The Bone's SUPERCHARGED just made the whole decision process much easier for you... CD it or download it, but load it and load it soon, `cuz summer's here and you're about to get funked. ~SANDY SHORE

Customer Reviews:
Good companion for Battlestar Fans.......2007-05-07
If you're a Battlestar Galatica Fan, this audio is an excellent companion to your collection. Passacaglia, Forgiven, and The Shape of Things to Come are emotional and addictive orchestral soundtracks. Not every song from the first season is included in this CD. The opening credit songs for the UK and the US versions and the battle songs (The Thousandth Landing, Battle on the Asteroid) are included. Battlestar Muzaktica is quite odd and doesn't fit with the collection of songs.
Captures the feel of the show.......2007-04-11
Has a great selection of songs from the 1st season. I like show/movie CDs that you can picture the scenes and emotion of the actors when you hear the song. The Celtic underlays are great, and the Taiko drumming style is very well used for building intensity in the music. If you really like the series, you should probably really enjoy the music as well!
Awesome Soundtrack.......2007-04-11
If you like the music in a scene that just blends in and makes the scene even more emotional or suspenseful, that is what the scores from season one do on this cd. I initially bought it to for the prologue (cylon music) and the two main titles (U.S. and U.K.) but after listening to the entire cd, I have become completely addicted to it. The titles of the scores usually give you a hint of the scene and the liner notes also tell you the episode that they are from but the soundtrack has definitely made rewatching season one an even more intriguing experience. The scores with words, are written by Bear and are in various languages, but the words, especially the opera piece, are actually so dead one with the scene and in this specific scene hilarious. I love this soundtrack. If you are someone who is addicted to really grasping everything that happens in this show and watch and analyze it beyond face value, this is an added bonus to have in your collection. I highly recommend it!!!
BSG.......2007-04-10
Man I love the Classic and the Present BSG's So Inaturally find the SoundTrack/Score A joy and very relaxing. They tend to sound very similar but they are very diffrent.
Agree with everyone else.......2007-03-28
There have been lots of raving reviews of this album, as well as the equally sensational season 2 soundtrack. I just wanted to add my opinion on one track, "Destiny". An earlier review describes an Arabic string instrument being used, but it is actually a biwa, a traditional Japanese instrument that has such a distinct sound that it's hard to imagine it being used for anything other than traditional gagaku music. I don't know if anyone but McCreary has ever tried to use this instrument for something else, but it hardly matters. The fact that McCreary managed to use it so effectively in a piece that is so different from gagaku music is a perfect testament to his unique genius. I'm really looking forward to following McCreary's career.

Mona Bone Jakon marked the beginning of the Cat Stevens we know and love, forming alongside Teaser & the Firecat and Tea for the Tillerman the creative heart of Stevens's oeuvre. Though previous releases showcased his sticky burr of a voice and flashes of his songwriting brilliance, it was on Mona Bone that Stevens became disillusioned enough with the music industry to write more deeply introspective and personal songs. It's interesting to note that his disavowal of the biz (wryly commented upon in the song "Pop Star") coincides with his increasing popularity. You can hear Stevens finding his distinctive voice and sound on the first few bars of "Lady D'Arbanville" in all its baroque, emotive glory. "I Think I See the Light" marks the beginning of Stevens's lyrical spiritual pursuits, and "Trouble" stands among the best tracks in his career. All in all, Mona Bone Jakon is a delight, and because it never achieved the Top 40 radio ubiquity of later albums, it sounds fresh and distinct. --Tod Nelson
Customer Reviews:
Well Done.......2007-04-15
This cd's got a couple of songs from the movie "Harold and Maude", which I understand can be found on no other album.
Its Poetry.......2006-10-07
Cat Stevens is a poet, and this is . . . great poetry. Its tender, angry, sublime, reaching, and even transcendent.
He's part angry young man, and all Seeker of Life's Meaning. These are the songs of a profound human being; take it when you find it, its rare, cheap imitations abound; this is the real thing.
This album is the kind of music I would like my son and daughter to grow up with, alongside the literature of Hermann Hesse, Somerset Maugham, and James Hilton.
nostalgia.......2006-03-12
When you are addicted to 'must have' old cd's this is one that shoul be in your collection !
Light As A Feather.......2005-07-08
When Cat Stevens got out of hospital (as the Brits say) in 1970, he had a catalog of songs that would stretch over 2 years and 3 albums. So why, I wondered, didn't he put all the best stuff on the first record? After all, most people would say Tea For the Tillerman and Teaser and the Firecat contained most of the Stevens classics. Then it occurred to me that a lot of this music had already appeared in the movie Harold and Maude, so there may have been an attempt to tie it in with the movie release. THEN it occurred to me that this isn't really inferior stuff, even though sometimes you don't notice its brilliance the way you should. The great songs here are Trouble, I Think I See The Light, Katmandu and maybe Pop Star. The others are very good. All the songs have a weightlessness to them that might cause you to overlook the worthiness of the album on the whole. So in a way, the whole is not as good as the sum of its parts. But it's definitely worth checking out.
mona bone jakon?????.......2005-07-03
i grew up hearing Cat Steven's amazing album, "Tea for the Tillerman" but i never really got into him until last year when my aunts boyfriend gave me a bunch or records and one happened to be "Tea for the Tillerman" i listened to it and relized what i had been hearing as a kid. It was one of the greatest albums of all time! Then i saw "Harold and Maude" which is my favorite movie, which features all Cat songs. i fell in love with his music. i went to a thrift store and found "Teaser and the fire cat" on vinyl. i liked it as well, though not as much as "Tea for the Tillerman." then the other day i bought "Mona Bone Jakon." i really like it, it is my 2nd favorite album of Cat's. but i do have one question:
WHAT DOES MONA BONE JAKON MEAN!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

The Best Of Down To The Bone.......2007-07-11
I Am Not A Overly Big Fan Of This Group, So Buying Their CD's Was Not Really On My Must Buy List! However, Some Of Their Music Is Very Good And Enjoyable To Listen To. The Release Of Their Best Of CD, Was A Timely Thing For Me And Just The Right Amount Of Down To The Bone For My Tastes. A Very Enjoyable CD!
Cruisin music at it's finest.......2007-05-19
I immediately ordered this CD for my brother as a Father's Day gift. I didn't expect anything less from this group...they are true artist at their craft.
The Best of Down to the Bone.......2007-04-10
While on vacation I stumbled across a concert given by Down to the Bone at Lake Tahoe. Absolutely awesome performance and this CD has captured the best of it and their other CD's as well.
original down to the bone group.......2007-04-01
Without any prejudice whatsoever, the original group who made the CD "From Manhattan to Staten" was a far better group in terms of a better rendition, because they were more natural with the African illulations and the drum beats along with organs, trumpets, saxaphones, tom tom, vocals, etc. My humble suggestion is that the original group should be regrouped taking a lead from the the first three(3) CD'S which were made, including "FROM MANHATTAN TO STATEN".If this is done I can assure you by GOD'S will that the CD'S will be a sellout.
A must have for jazz lovers........2007-03-14
I have been following the group for some time and when I found this compilation immediately went to buy it. All the great piesces are there (for a 1 CD compilation that is) and the icing on the cake is the last track , ¨Long way from Brooklin¨. I hope that you will ejoy it as I do every time I listen to it.

Californian Etta James decided against accepting filmmaker Martin Scorcese's personal invitation to sing at The Blues gala in New York in early 2003. The well-celebrated soul and blues queen makes amends here with what is one of the most blues-centered recordings in her expansive discography, bringing her big, no-nonsense voice and her feisty, proud woman's point of view to bear on classics, many identified with Chicago. The likes of Howlin' Wolf's "Smokestack Lightnin'," Jimmy Reed's "Hush Hush," and Muddy Waters's "Got My Mojo Working" may be hackneyed choices, but she seizes each of a dozen as her own, and clearly, as she says herself, these are the blues songs that touch her the deepest. No argument here. --Frank-John Hadley

Etta at Her Best.......2007-07-07
With the renewed interest in blues by a new generation, Etta James in recent years has published many of the old favorites on fresh CDs. This recording is an excellent example of the old-time blues that should please all fans, young and old. I am a blues fan and an Etta James junkie. I have always claimed that she is the best that ever was. Since I bagan going blind, my appreciation of her magnificent voice is only heightened. Any of her recordings--old or new, studio or live performances, are essential for a true appreciation of the genre. However, this CD, in addition to being educational, great example of the genre, funky song choicees and of excellent quality, is simply fun.
So Sad.......2007-06-25
I can't even believe that this was actually Etta James. She must have been having a very bad day when she cut this one. Her voice is empty, weak, emotionless and she sounds exactly the same in every single track. The best part of it are her sons who play back-up. I know what she is capable of so I am just chalking it up to illness or something. I don't even want to listen to it again.
ETTA IS OUT DOING THE BEST BLUES CLASSICS.......2007-02-28
YOU HAVE HEARD ALL THESE SONG'S BEFORE BUT NOT LIKE MISS ETTA JAMES CAN DO THEM. I LOVE ALL THE 50'S AND 60'S ETTA LOVE CLASSICS BUT THE BLUES IS HER CALLING. SHE IS THE BEST LIVE PERFORMER I KNOW, HER LEGS MAY BE A LITTLE SHAKEY BUT YOU WILL NEVER HEAR HER SING ANY SONG THE SAME WAY TWICE SOMETIMES SHE'LL SLOW SONG DOWN AND MAKE YOU CRY. AND SOMETIMES SHE WILL GET FUNKY ON A LOVE SONG AND MAKE IT RAUNCHY SO THAT YOU ARE LAUGHING AND SMILING INSTEAD OF CRYING. I SWEAR SHE CAN READ THE CROWD SO WELL SHE KNOWS WHAT THE AUDIENCE HAS IN THERE HEART'S AND SHE WILL GIVE YOU WHAT YOU NEED. IT'S A PRIVATE SHOW FOR EACH AND EVERY PERSON IN THE ROOM. BUY THIS ALBUM AND PLAY IT WHEN YOU ARE IN ANY KIND OF MOOD OVER AND OVER AGAIN.
Darvin Deva Queen.......2007-02-07
It is only a few artists that can evolve from one genre to another and capture and create in each one. This album proves that with time Etta ages like fine wine. She is light and sassy in the beginning but smooth and brilliant as time goes by.
Etta James.......2007-01-12
I purchased this cd for my father as a Christmas gift. He is enjoying it!

Outstanding early 90's rock, as always.......2007-02-05
Just a fantastic album pretty much all around, Andy was destined to be a mega star but fate prevailed in the end, but we still have this brilliant album to fall back on. This is Shangrila, Come Bite The Apple, Bone China, Crown of Thorns are just absolutely fantastic tracks. RIP Andy
Takes me back.......2007-01-24
I bought this album in 1992, freshman year in college. I was blown away by the force and depth of the music. 15 years later, unlike so much other music from my teens, this album still rocks. RIP Andrew Wood. You gave the world your gift and then you were consumed by it.
Unexpected........2006-12-14
When I bought this album I was a huge Pearl Jam, and had heard of Mother Love Bone in the past and knew a very little about them. Knowing they were the precursor to groups like Soundgarden and Pearl Jam, I bought it ona whim. I was pleasantly suprised to find something that sounded completely different than what I expected. With Andrew Wood's amazing glam rock vocals, Gossard and Ament's free range song writing, and an altogether kick in the balls sound, it's worth however much you're going to spend.
Mother Love Bone.......2006-11-10
Andrew Woods was a brilliant pianist and awesome singer. Mostly 80's sounding "Hair Band", which is excellent. Two songs off the chain; are, "Man of Golden Words", and "Chloe Dancer/Crown of Thorns". Overall; this is an excellent CD with a very distinct sound. One of a kind.
Mother love of all albums.......2006-08-10
Although I still have a greater love of things later (Pearl Jam), MLB are the clear inspiration. Andrew's lyrics coupled with Stone's riffs and Jeff's bass are what you can only describe as beautiful melodic rock.
If you love Jeff Buckley's sense of melody / ultimate beauty, and Freddie's sense of dash then you will love this. I will always state that I love listening to PJ/Nirvana/Reef/Live/Just Ginger/RHCP/Billy Joel/Radiohead more, but MLB will always somehow find its way to the top of my playlist through sheer quality and beauty of music.
Make no mistake, Andy Wood could have made MLB the Led Zep of our time. Awesome, what a boy: like Jeff and Kurt, let us just be thankful for what there was from him.

Amazon.com essential recording
This is Waits's most harrowing album ever, thanks not only to such heartwarming sentiments as "What does it matter, a dream of love or a dream of lies / We're all going to be in the same place when we die" but also to the ravaged, shamanistic croak with which he delivers them. Death hangs like a bad suit on songs like "Jesus Gonna Be Here," "The Ocean Doesn't Want Me," and "Murder in the Red Barn." But the album is musically entrancing and richly poetic--"Are you still jumping out of windows in expensive clothes?" Waits asks a perennially unfaithful lover in "Who Are You." There's also room for some foolishness, as with "I Don't Wanna Grow Up," which has been memorably covered by the Ramones, and a boozy sing-along (with Keith Richards), "That Feel." --Daniel Durchholz
Amazon.com
The abnormal has become the norm for Tom Waits, so, once again, Bone Machine is laden with odd timbres, archaic acoustics, and raw vocals. This time, however, Waits has built his songs around a Harry Partch-inspired fascination with primitive percussion. With a crew of Northern California musicians along to add spare adornments, Waits fashions pretty, sentimental tunes ("A Little Rain," Whistle Down the Wind") and hellish stampedes of clanging metal and hoarse shouting ("Earth Died Screaming," "Let Me Get Up on It," the latter the 53-second distillation of Bone Machine quintessence-just Waits distorted bellowing and banging. Bone Machine is both appalling and appealing. There are elements to this album that seem designed to drive away the faint of heart, and then there are melodies that melt in your hand. --Steve Stolder

the middle ground.......2007-03-15
this is for you fols who dont like the early stuff but you aren't ready for real gone. it won the grammay in 1992 for best alternative album.telling you it is at least worth a listen. i promise you that you wont be disapointed.
serendipity.......2007-02-12
i found this cd in a ditch beside a dirt road out in the middle of nowhere. having no jewel case, it was badly scratched. when i first played it i got scared by the sounds it made. yet i could not stop listening. and as i listened over and over again i realized that i had no need to be afraid; for, i discovered, i was hearing the music of angels. mad drunken angels, to be sure; but angels nonetheless. i listened harder and the tunes became epiphanies. I was turned in new directions, and i became me. Murphy's Law was rescinded.
A masterpiece of mayhem.......2007-01-14
Tom Waits's experimental edge, which began largely with SWORDFISHTROMBONES, finds its pinacle in BONE MACHINE. This is an album that would later be largely replicated with REAL GONE (a record that is so loud and busy, it takes several listens to get to the point), but is much more direct than the future album: MACHINE is about decay, both physical and psyhological, and how the erosion of time affects us all.
The gutteral "Earth Died Screaming" opens the album, while the beautiful "That Feel" (co-written with and featuring Keith Richards) closes out the set. In between, the songs range from busy, bustling stoms ("All Stripped Down"), sentimental ballads ("A Little Rain"), recitations ("The Ocean Doesn't Want Me"), even off-beat gospel ("Jesus Gonna Be Here"). The overall effect is an album that comes off as brilliant--which is simply because it IS brilliant. Tom Waits is a musical genius; his experimental edge, combined with a knack for poetic lyrics and a hooky melody (also melodies that seem to make no sense at all) pushes him far above his peers. Actually, it's safe to say that Waits has no peers--he is in a class all his own, making music like only he could. If you've never heard anything like Tom Waits, it's ok--because there ISN'T anything else like him.
Bone Machine.......2007-01-12
Bone Machine is an album, or a piece of art in general, that confronts all the bleak and emotional thoughts you may have on mortality in a way that only those with hearts of stone or minds of mush could turn away. Like Astral Weeks, or 3rd/Sister Lovers, you cannot go away from this album without having some change in mood. Albums like this or the afformentioned really are the epitome of expression, when you actually feel every word that pours from their lips, trembling or howling or straining. They are perfect albums in this context.
But this is a review of Bone Machine, not a critical analysis of the importance of emotional integrity in pop music. Bone Machine leaves you feeling blue but not depressed. It makes you think, about the way life can just so easily be swept up from under you at any given moment, and how you truly have to seize every opportunity and take every risk your mind tells you not to do, but in your heart you think it's right. If "we're all gonna be dirt in the ground" then why not live life now. While every song on here is a stunner, the songs that have really been a beacon of light for me are the last 4(minus Let Me Get Up On That, an instrumental). I have spent the past month driving home at midnight after being in a smokey coffee house for hours on end, hyped up and weary, and feeling the cold wind sting my face while ash hit my eyes from the tip of my cigarette while listening to Whistle Down the Wind, and just thought about how I've been in this town my whole life and need a change, and that I'm rusting here, never getting around, doing the same thing. I Don't Wanna Grow Up could very well be the anthem of my post adolescent confusion and delusion, a plea for eternal youth in the midst of adulthood and the uncertainty of what will happen the rest of my life or even the next day. That Feel, a true motivational song, a perfect sendoff from an album of such morbid contemplation. That Feel is that urge to just keep going on, that it's all gonna turn around, and you can never get rid of that zest for life, no matter how old you get, or how hard you've live, and having Keith Richards croak along with Tom, two haggard survivors who really let the longevity of their lives show in this performance. "Cross my wooden leg, and i swear on my glass eye". With a line like that, how could you resist? Bone Machine is the perfect place for Waits beginners too. Rain Dogs may be too out there and too long for the uninitiated, and with Small Change, or any of the older stuff, you don't get a real feel for the more experimental aspects of his later work. Bone Machine is the perfect mixture of boomers, bangers, ballads and blues. Get yourself a pack of unfiltered cigarettes and go for a ride on a dark night with this. You'll never be the same.
Dark? Sad? Difficult listening? I dunno about all that..........2006-11-18
Throughout the reviews for "Bone Machine", you'll see warnings that this music is harrowing, obsessed with death, "not the place to begin with Tom Waits."
Pshaw. This album makes me grin ear-to-ear, all the way through. This one contains some of Tom's most lovely ballads: "Who Are You", and the amazing "A Little Rain". It has some of his funniest lyrics: "Murder in the Red Barn" comes to mind.
"Cause there's nothin' strange
About an axe with bloodstains in the barn
There's always some killin'
You got to do around the farm"
The poetry on "Bone Machine" is truly (to use an overused phrase), mind-blowing. Hell, I might even go to church if they sang honest songs about mortality like the chillingly beautiful "Dirt in the Ground"! "The Ocean Doesn't Want Me" is his best spoken word piece ever. "Jesus Gonna Be Here" just flat rocks out.
Be clear about this: "Bone Machine" is not background music: it demands attention. But the bottom line: be not afraid. Strap on the headphones, pour a tall glass, and take the ride.

TRULY A GREAT COMPILATION .......2006-04-29
THIS ALBUM IS OFF THE HOOK!!!! I have to give it up for Bone Thugs and Tomica Wright (who is an executive producer on the album). A lot of people come out with trashy hits album, that are just thrown together for money. I may only be 16, but trust me I know. This is the exact opposite. It has 26 songs, and is a 2-disc. All real hardcore Bone Thugs fans, like me, must have this album. It has "Tha Crossroads", "Look Into My Eyes", "Thug Luv", and every song that has been a major hit for them. No song is missing. Bone Thugs are just so ORGINAL, TALENTED, and everything that rappers should be. It is worth every bit of your 13 or 14 dollars, or however much cds cost at your local music carrier stores. It's Bone Thugs, so you know you can't go wrong.
Bone Thugs the best in the game!!!!.......2006-04-03
Yo before I review this album, I only got to say one thing. BONE THUGS N HARMONY IS THE BEST RAP GROUP EVER TO BE IN THE GAME. I listened to them since I was 6 years old. I play all day, everyday, 24/7/365. They Thuggish Ruggish til' the day they die. Now back to the greatest hits, they have a lot of great collections of song on this album, the classic "Crossroads (from E. 1999) (sampled from Isley Brothers "Make Me Say It Again"), "Look Into My Eyez", "Foe The Love Of $", "1st of da Month", and etc. But my favorite song on that whole Greatest Hits is "Money, Money". This has been in my CD player since I first bought it. I can't wait till their new album come out in summer.

This is BY FAR one of the best selling Hip-Hop Records of all time. It beat Elvis' record!!!
Best of the Best!!.......2007-05-16
This is without a doubt Bone's best album ever! Even though they are still awesome today, they (nor anyone else) will ever be able to top this album. It's just great from beginning to end...even the interludes, which are really just them singing and aint nothin' wrong with that. You can't call yourself a true Bone fan if you don't own this album. If you dont, then go get it now cuz you're missing out!
BONE THUGS 4-EVER!!!
every song is a must listen!.......2007-03-19
this is in my opinion, the best rap group album ever. no other rap group these days have the fire, passion and talents like BONE. i know there's talk about the group getting back together next year, and i really hope so. they're not forgotten and they're gonna be bigger than ever. to the new BONE fans, this is the album that cemented them in hip hop, their videos were on mtv all the time and they were winning all kinds of awards...you won't be disappointed!
Best Rap Album of all Time.......2007-03-08
I've been listening to rap for well over a decade now and the best album of all time is this one. Nothing even compares. This album captures the essence of the city streets through sound and words. The beats are beautifully dark and evil. When I listen to this cd, I feel like I am in a wasteland in hell. The genius of these four artists to capture such emotion in a cd at the ages of 17-20 is unbelievable.
