A Disappointment.......2005-08-06

There is so much better music out there to discover and enjoy. Don't waste your time with this double album. Try Ethereal Melodic Trance instead, for one.

Varied Techno at a Cheapo Price!.......2004-04-23

I actually found this cd at Savers (ValuVillage) for about $5 while dredging for something exactly like this; a techno mix cd (or cds, as the case may be) with some people i actually know! (The Crystal Method, Underworld, Armand van Helden...)

i stuck the bonus disc in the cranky cd player of my friend's car only to find out that the player thought the cd had an 'ERR'.

so i put in the first cd instead.

the sequence the mix goes in gets kind of weird come the middle of the cd, but the first track "Get Bizzy Time" (which samples The Crystal Method's 'Busy Child') is a great start off track, and most of the tracks are only WAAAY better than that one. (with the exception of A P H.P.'s Advice on the second disc. i didn't care for that one very much)

as 'cars' closes, which is, yes, a techno mix of the 80's song, i'll close too: if you're looking for a good techno cd, or one that exposes (seeming) small groups, check this cd out!

psygone and the ozone songs just absolutely kick ass, and i guess there are others out there, now its hard for me to respect this cd cuz my tastes have been changed quite a bit, and funny its because of the songs by those two artists, they are great trance house tunes and i will always love em, its hard now for me to like comps, cuz i hate trippy techno or commercialized crap like the gravy train song or whatever it is, and the cars song was boring redundant and a horrible addition to the wonderful world of techno, i dont understand some peoples taste when it comes to preferences, when they claim that something is complex and stunning i think its boring and obnoxious, sorry people but im an oakenfold fan or van dyke or bt or christopher lawrence

Imperfect but still very good........1999-10-29

The second disc of Into the Mix 1 was well worth the full price, as I believe it drastically overshadowed the remixes. This time around there are few standouts. The only distinctively risky tracks are "Cars" and my personal favorite, "Gravy Train," which is the most inventive techno track I've heard. There's some kind of unlisted bonus afterwards in "Fade Away," which I know nothing about except that it is the mainstream highlight of the compilation. Whether good or bad, you'll notice a difference in the second discs. I don't think round two's tracks (save those mentioned) distinguish themselves enough. This is idle bickering; you can't go wrong with a double disc.

i love this C.D....it is a prefect album..........1999-02-05

this C.D. was a semi-blind pick....when i got it home, it sat on my shelf for a while...but after i listened to it, it is allways playing in my C.D. player...i love the amazing variety on this C.D., and it's two disks for only twleve bucks!!!, what more could you ever want?

Beautiful songs sung with clarity, interpretive artistry and attention to blend. Some of the more particularly lyrical songs (e.g. Zgodava's Out of Oriental Crystal Skies, and Paulus' Sing Hallelu to name two) are not found in more common choral album Christmas repertoires and are a delight to experience for the first time.

Quite inconsistent.......2004-01-19

Volume 2 of the Green Crystal Ties series is a wildly erratic collection with a few duds, and some nearly first rate efforts. The best material includes all six tracks from three groups - The Bluethings, The Basement Wall, and The Penthouse 5. Along with Barry and the Remains, The Bluethings are considered one of the finest unknown mid 60's bands. Their two tracks ('You Can't Say We Never Tried' and 'Pennies') are high quality mid 60's folk rock that showcase the talents of Val Stecklein, who wrote and sang the majority of the Bluethings original material. The Basement Wall reveal themselves as an enjoyable harder-rocking garage outfit. They were tight on 'Never Existed,' driving rock with tasteful vocal harmonies, and 'You,' a stomping, Farfisa led garage work out. The Penthouse 5's cuts couldn't have been more different, but they were both effective. 'You're Gonna Make Me' shares similarities with the Animals in use of the organ, and (especially) the Eric Burdon influenced vocals, ending on a bad trip sort of rave up. In contrast, 'You're Always Around' is a decent Mamas and Papas like folk rock offering. All three of the groups, though obscure, have their own cd releases, so this is not the only place the collector can find them. The Esquires and Sounds Unlimited are decent, ('Judgement Day' by the Esquires could be considered another highlight), but elsewhere there are some pretty lame tracks, including average to below average renditions of well-known songs. This is usually the most frustrating aspect of garage compilations. Curiously, the notes refer to the Barracudas version of 'Feel A Whole Lot Better' as ''a heavy progressive rendition.'' This is an inaccurate categorization in every respect, as the track is nothing more than a thin cover of the Byrds' classic. Frankly, it sounds like an adequate young cover band that doesn't have all the chords right. Although The Missing Links version of the Zombies 'You Make Me Feel Good' is terribly half-baked, its worth a good laugh, featuring sloppy playing, drunken and botched lead vocals, and some off-key harmonies. Depending on your threshold for this stuff, Volume 2 may or may not be worth it, since the best three groups have their own compilations available. Personally, I bought it as part of the whole ten volume set. If you are a major 60's collector though, the lesser though decent offerings (like, for example 'About You' by Sounds Unlimited) are worth it, because they usually have at least a couple of good ideas. But even those cuts are on other compilations.

Theodor Blumer (1881-1964) writes in a Romantic style. He is a German composer who lived most of his life in Dresden, Leipzig, and Berlin. The music is extremely attractive and recently has drawn much interest from American audiences.

The Moran Woodwind Quintet is in-residence at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln School of Music. This is the group's third CD on the Crystal label.

More ear X-tacy.......2006-03-19

Before I mention anything else, this recording should be titled "ear X-tacy 2" by Amazon. For some reason, they don't have the title right.

On the strength of Andy Timmons' "ear X-tacy" recording, I bought a copy of "ear X-tacy 2." I'm not at all sorry I bought the second recording -- there are some good tunes on this disc. They are good enough to stand multiple listens.

My favorite track list from this recording includes A Night to Remember, Sometimes I, Down to the Wire, Groove or Die, and Wishing Well. The others stand as just OK in my taste and so I don't listen to them. These five are worth the entry price, however, and are on my iPod for listening on demand.

My impression is that this recording is not quite as strong as the previous ear X-tacy, yet it remains good workmanship. The songs just aren't quite as strong as the earlier release.

If you have "ear X-tacy" and like it, then don't be reluctant to add this one to your collection. If you haven't purchased "ear X-tacy" yet, then buy that one first. If you like it, then pick up a copy of this recording too.
