Product Description
The queen of vocal trance returns with a new dancefloor screamer in 'Inspiration'. Despite of what everybody thinks, Ian van Dahl is not a real person, but a project name. The face and vocalist of the act is Annemie Coenen, who co-writes most of the Ian van Dahl songs. On stage she's backed up by two great dancers from the Belgium danceschool 'The Move'. The producers behind Ian Van Dahl are Christophe Chantzis and Erik Vanspauwen. 'Inspiration' is just a taste of what's to come from the forthcoming album Lost & Found. Central Station. 2005.

Though it's hard to doubt the faith or fault the selection on Alabama's first album of religious inspiration--and first release of new recordings in more than five years--the arrangements range from the heavenly to the syrupy. The best are the simplest and purest, showing why familiar hymns such as "In the Garden," "How Great Thou Art," "Rock of Ages," and "The Old Rugged Cross" have such staying power. Yet the swelling (synthesized?) strings on "Amazing Grace" and "Silent Night" overwhelm rather than enhance the grace of the material, and the children's chorus provided by granddaughters of Alabama's Teddy Gentry on "Jesus Loves Me" is a little cloying. The unvarnished vocals of guest Ralph Stanley highlight the banjo-and-fiddle-driven "I Am the Man Thomas," and gospel's the Isaacs provide ethereal harmonies on "I Need Thee." Lead singer Randy Owen offers two strong originals to close the album, the ecumenical celebration of "One Big Heaven" and the uptempo "Rain" that sounds most like the old Alabama. --Don McLeese

Wander through the coke-lined lyrics of Young Jeezy's Let's Get It: Thug Motivation 101 and now The Inspiration, its keep-it-entirely-real follow-up, and you may never look at a snowman or a box of baking soda the same way again. But what you lose in the way of crack-trade innocence you gain in a clear picture of why few rappers in the game get Jeeps to rattling as reliably: Jeezy--never mind the hopped-up hustler bluster--is a hugely magnetic figure, a ghetto go-getter capable not only of laying down the kind of loosey-goosey lyrics that make you want to clap him on the back for untangling street-wiseness from seriousness but of inspiring some kind of out-there superhero comic book series, too. Other rappers drip on the ATL drawl, but none as winningly (check the Timbaland-produced "3 A.M."). And other rappers spit trademark phrases a la James Brown's "Good God!," but few as adroitly (Jeezy's "ha ha" sticks). Friends help--something divine issues from the pipes of Keyshia Cole on "Dreamin,'" and DJ Toomp puts the T.I. treatment on "I Luv It"--but at the end of a long day of trappin' and playin' this is Jeezy's party. --Tammy La Gorce

No matter what is being supplied, a hustler is only as good as his word. With Atlanta serving up some of the hottest product in the rap game, native son Young Jeezy stands as one of the most exciting merchants of cool to emerge in years. The Inspiration is the newest album by this Def Jam rapper, featuring singles such as "I Luv It" and "Child of God."

I purchased this for my teenager who seems to love it. I have not listened to it.
The Inspiration.......2007-05-08
Jeezy came hard with his sophomore album. A little bit better than let's get it, but both the albums go hard. The hard cut on here include bury me a g, dreamin, i love it, streets on lock, 3am, the inspiration, hypnotize, and jeezy. Cop it if you like trap music and good southern music. PEACE
4.5/5.00 Good for what it is!.......2007-04-27
I dont see why so many people dislike Jeezy. Either these people already hate Jeezy and his personality and/or these people like referring to themselves as "real hip hop fans." Well, I'm just a fan of music in general and I have to say that this album is pretty good, being what it is. Jeezy's whole shtick is rapping bout drugs and 'street life' with a swagger, and thats exactly what he does on the album. Although Jeezy's lyrics aren't that creative, at least he delivers them with style. At least Jeezy aint like MIMS or Chingy, whose songs get annoying within the first 10 seconds of listening. Also, the beats on the album are high quality and catchy, which combined with his okay lyrics make the CD above average. I recommend this album for people who likes uptempo beats and aren't too anal about lyrics. [PS, I didnt listen to Jeezy's previous album]
GREAT PRODUCTION....NO NEW CONCEPTS.......2007-04-02
I love jeezy's swagg, delivery, & beats, but for some reason this album will become annoying after continuously listening to him rap. Maybe it's just me.
Real Recognize Real.......2007-03-30
Jeezy's been recognized as a representative of real hip hop after his debut album. This album solidifies it.
You will only hear of maybe two tracks through MTV or radio - but honestly the whole album is dope. Jeezy's flow over sick beats is a match made in heaven - and shouldn't be confused with any kind of one-hit wonder or short lived rap.
having said that, my favorite tracks are;
"U Know What It Is"
"Still On It"
"I Luv It"
"I Got Money" (featuring T.I.)
not many guest features on here - taking it back to the old school. T.I. and R. Kelly make appearances - and the copy I picked up at Best Buy has two exclusive tracks, featuring Three 6 Mafia.
This album has the feeling of a raw mixtape style release - not hyed much by any labels or promotion as far as I remember, I didn't know it was coming out until a week before it's release. The production is tight, and as he has consistently done; Jeezy delivers. Go buy this album!

cello lover.......2007-05-31
Absoluty the best. It is no wonder she was the world premier cello artist!! Can't say enough. If you love cello, and classical music, this is a must have. Her whole collection is worth every penny!!!
99% perspiration.......2006-11-08
(4.5/5 stars) This is a two-disc collection of musical works, in which the great cellist Jacqueline du Pre plays. The first disc consists of three cello concerti by three different composers: Dvorak (Romantic), Haydn (Classical) and Elgar (Romantic). Very good music, though it might leave you wondering what all the fuss is about. Not to worry: just pop in Disc Two to find out. The second disc contains shorter works by a wider variety of composers. It also might just leave you breathless by its beauty. Saint-Säens' "The Swan" (from "Carnival of the Animals") is nearly indescribable in its elegance, with du Pre's cello dancing with a harp. This haunting recording should not be missed. Bruch's "Kol Nidrei" is magnificently gorgeous as well. Three fantasy pieces from Schumann, one of Mendelssohn's "Lieder Ohne Wörter" and a stunning Brahms sonata infuse this collection with genuine grace. Since these were recorded prior to the advent of digital recordings, you might hear a very slight hiss on some of the recordings. This is barely audible and really does not detract from the pleasure of listening to it. Each disc runs 75 minutes, making this inspiration last long indeed.
Immortal Legend.......2006-10-07
As a cellist, I grew up listening to Jacqueline Du Pre's recordings. Even now as a 35 year old, I'm still enthralled by her amazing talent. This is a great cd if one is looking for a wonderful introduction to this superb cellist or simply wants to savor her most well known recordings. Du Pre owned the "Elgar" concerto. No other words can summarize this fact. Other beautiful and moving pieces are here on this disc: Bruch "Kol Nidrei", Haydn "Concerto No.2", Faure "Elegie", Brahms "Concerto No.2". The cello is a difficult instrument to play due to the strength required in both hands. Du Pre's playing touches the heartstrings with both emotion and depth. The tone that she coaxes from her cello is amazing. Jacqueline Du Pre is a legend.
Epitome of Cello.......2006-06-23
As a cellist, I absolutely love du Pré's work. I actually found this CD when I was looking for a modern recording of "A Jacqueline du Pré Recital", a record compiled of pieces done between July 15, 1962 and April 1, 1969. The second CD in this set contains the same songs as that record.
The concertos on the first CD are spectacular, especially her rendition of the Elgar concerto which has defined the piece since she first performed it. The second CD, however, is just as wonderful as a collection of some of the most loved cello pieces. No cello recording complete without Saint Saen's "The Swan" and du Pré's version is the only one I've ever heard that I actually like. "Elégie in C minor" (composed by Gabriel Fauré) is one of my personal favorites especially since her rapport with the pianist is obvious and the two instruments blend in a way that makes the piece even more poignant.
Overall, this CD is a must-have for anyone who loves cello as a perfect sample of Jacqueline du Pré's work.
Ooo! Samples!.......2005-11-29
As far as the romantic period goes, Jacqueline Du Pre is my personal favorite 'cellist. Her sensitivity to put expression of the musical idea always outweighed the desire to appear impressive. There is a difference in being just a virtuoso and being a musician. A virtuoso has the capability to dazzle and amaze, but music is more than just being impressive, and Du Pre succeeds in becoming, in every sense, a musician first and foremost. The only complaint I have of this album is the fact that you only get one movement of each piece! Even so, this a wonderful "sample dish" of Du Pre's extraordinary playing, mainly meant to get you hooked so you can get more.

Customer Reviews:
GREAT CD OF INSPIRATIONAL MUSIC.......2007-07-04
I ordered this CD to get one song,"We Shall Behold Him",and was blown away by the two CD's. Sandi Patty has always been a favorite of mine but I have not heard many of the songs on these CD's. The old favorites are done with arrangements that give you goose bumps. And of course when I ordered this from Amazon I never knew I would get it so quickly. Thanks Amazon.
Extra bonus CD.......2007-03-10
Contains two CDs, both are great.... I can't decide which is my favorite. This is the best of Sandy Patti singing great hymns I grew up on and a few newer tunes. You will not be disappointed in her song selections and, as always, her fabulous voice which touches your heart and soul.
Spectacular!.......2006-12-11
Sandi's voice has never been better! It is so clear and warm and rich. Just lovely. And sincere. The songs chosen for this CD set are absolutely perfect. If you are a Sandi Patty fan, of course you will love this album. But even if you just enjoy a beautiful soprano voice and inspirational music, you can't go wrong with any of her CDs.
I just saw her Christmas concert the other night, and all I can say is "Wow!". She is even more incredible in person, if that's possible.
Hymns of Faith: Songs of Inspiration .......2006-08-25
I love Sandi Patty. As for the cd when I first got it. It wouldn't play after the first song. I have a cd repair kit and tried that. Now it works fine.
Awesome!!! Great !!! You should buy this!!!RECOMMENDED!!.......2006-07-09

The second release of inspirational music from the country harmonizers mixes plenty of familiar, traditional spirituals with a few originals. The guitar-driven "I Am a Pilgrim" has the trademark lope of a Waylon Jennings arrangement, while more acoustic fare such as "Children in the Wildwood" and "If I Could Hear My Mother Pray Again" has a folkish purity. Alabama join forces with the Del McCoury Band for a revival of "Will the Circle Be Unbroken" and with Riders in the Sky for campfire cowboy harmonizing on "Love Lifted Me." The set-closing transformation of "The Star Spangled Banner" into a ballad with swirling strings extends the concept of inspirational music from the spiritual to the patriotic. --Don McLeese
Customer Reviews:
Classic Alabama.......2007-06-12
Alabama and gospel -- You've got to hear Randy Owens sing Will the Circle Be Unbroken with guest vocalists Del and Ron McCoury.
Where's the feeling??.......2007-05-19
I have been an Alabama fan for years. This CD is a huge disappointment. Most songs seem to all have the same rhythm and there is a total absence of dynamics. There is no excitement to the songs and the voices sound tired. The accompaniment is thin, at best. Their adaptation of "Precious Memories" is a travesty-dull, dull, dull.
Great service, music is okay........2007-05-15
I was a little disappointed when I heard this album. The songs are wonderful, but the arrangements are missing that great Alabama harmony.
Alabama's Continues to "Inspire".......2007-04-10
Prime Cuts: If I Could Hear My Mother Pray Again, One Life, When It Comes My Time to Leave
When "Songs of Inspiration" drops in at the pinnacle of the Billboard country album chart without even a radio single, Alabama continues to prove its viability as the bastion of country music. Five months after this successful jaunt, this second installment of the group's foray into inspirational favorites arrives. Recorded in the same session as the first volume, this set also finds lead singer Randy Owen in the producer seat. Further, a similar sonic semblance of gentler and acoustic-leaning underpinnings under gird this new disc. Hence, whether this new collection was initially planned or quickly garnered to capitalize on the success of the first volume remains debatable. Nevertheless, regardless of the album's sui genesis, thus far, "Vol. 2" has flared equally well coming in on the Billboard country album chart at no. 3, trailing only behind Tim McGraw and Carrie Underwood.
However, the major departure for this set is the presence of more traditional country inspirational numbers relative to just re-workings of traditional hymns of the church. Best of which is the obscure "If I Could Hear My Mother Pray Again," an understated guitar-driven mid-tempo reflection of times passed. This is made even more poignant by the group's sibling-like harmonies in the chorus. "Suppertime," a track associated at times with Johnny Cash, also continues the theme of nostalgia that tethers on the maudlin. "The Refrain of John Dillon James," a bluesy rock story song with an arresting plot, which finds Owen delivering with guts and gall. Also, calling back to mind Alabama at their rocking best is their rowdy version of "Down by the Riverside," a 180 degree-overturn of Alison Krauss' famed dirge-like rendition.
Of the two newly penned songs, Teddy Gentry's "When It's My Time to Go" is a gorgeous ballad about a life well-lived (which includes "having Jesus at my side"). Equipped with some tasty steel guitars over a well-crafted melody that calls to mind their "A Better Word for Love," this is indeed a fine piece of art. "One Life," coming from the pens of Eric Todd and Buck Moore, is also a top notched ballad, this time recounting the significance of Christ's birth. A track that ought to be do well during Christmas time. However, the tiresome rendition of old hymns such as "Precious Memories" and "Love Lifted Me" create some yawning moments. While the workman-like rendition of "Church in the Wildwood" sounds more demo-like than a finished product. And pushing the envelope of "inspirational" is the string-laden version of "The Star Spangled Banner." More befitting to the tenor of this CD, more verses (especially the more overtly Christian verses) of this anthem should have been included.
This set is a tad of an improvement from the first volume especially with the inclusion of more propulsive material. However, at times the arrangement of some of these tracks can benefit from a more imaginative production. And with already two volumes of inspiration songs, let's hope that the saturation point is reached. As much as inspirational songs are welcomed, Alabama is still at their best with their original secular material. Let's hope RCA Records will greet us with a new Alabama country record in the near future.
Great music and great soul.......2007-04-05
I have always been a big fan of the group Alabama, and this is my favorite record yet. If you liked Songs of Inspiration, you will love this effort. It has many more uptempo songs and is really striking in its variety, from stone country (When it Comes My Time to Go) , to a cowboy campfire ballad (Love Lifted Me), to Dixieland jazz (Down by the Riverside), and several other styles. Very clever and original takes on some classic, fast-moving, and quick-tempoed songs. I loved the first Songs of Inspiration, but this one is a lot more "fun" and flows better from beginning to end. The album is even more spiritual than the first and has a theme which will resonate with many- the fleeting nature of life on earth and the eternal joy we will have when we see our loved one again "on the other side."

sappy love songs.......2006-09-14
The compositions, Rhythms and singin-style of Peter Cetera sound always the same. He is a typical sappy love song - singer who prefers the love ballads and cheesy love adventures.
it might have been a bit tedious and boring.
The problem is everywhere: If you are a Hardrock fan like bands Uriah Heep, Stevie Ray Vaughan, AC/DC, Rory Gallagher, Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, your ears can't be familar with all these silly love songs. My ears cannot work like that.
there are two alternatives:
- if you are a hardrock fan. You like a mythological lyrics, you won't like Peter Cetera or Chicago. Keep your fingers away from this !!!
- if you are a sappy love song fan then please buy this cd !!!
As a huge Peter Cetera fan, one could hardly fault this;.......2006-07-14
These songs are instantly recognisable, be it in a different format. This, however, does not detract from the quality or enjoyment of each song. In fact, dare I say it, better than the original recordings!
Not to be missed!
marvelous CD.......2005-10-19
Yes, this CD is a marvelous truly jewel.
Buy it. It worth till the last penny.
The best fan of Peter Cetera.......2002-02-28
Peter Cetera is absolutely the best singer of the world.
Good old stuff, good new stuff.......2000-10-12
This CD is basically a compillation of old and new. The new version of "You're the Inspiration" is great. A little too twangy, though. Peter C. trying to sound country? I thought he was from Chicago. The new "Baby, What a Big Surprise" is also good, but only if you're open to a country-type sound.
I was excited for the new versions of these two songs because I thought they would be very similar to their original Chicago recordings. This is not the case, but the new versions grew on me and I dig them. There are a couple more new tracks that are classic Peter C. All in all, this CD is a good buy.

4 1/2 stars-- cooled off........2007-05-17
After the dark, claustrophobic masterpiece of "There's a Riot Goin' On" and following the departure of bassist Larry Graham, Sly Stone turned his band's attention to a bit of a cooled off sound. This could have been in response to the demise of the powerful rhythm section of Graham and drummer Gregg Errico, who had left prior to 'Riot', but I think in some ways it was a response to the overwhelming nature of its predecessor-- "There's a Riot Goin' On" is an experience to listen to, making it must have been extraordinary.
This isn't to say that "Fresh" is light pop fare. On the contrary, it's a fantastic record, dark in its own way, but it's really quite a bit less intense then its predecessor. At its best, it finds a midtempo, loping sound over which Stone can wail out full of passion and the band can form a swirl around him, single and standout "If You Want Me To Stay" is a fine example of this-- the bassline provides a graceful drive, Stone is passionate in his lead vocal, and the horns cascade around him. By and large, the album sticks to this midtempo funk, driven by the basslines and at times angular guitars ("In Time") or swanky horns ("Skin I'm In"). Stone does develop a tendency to mumble and ramble here and there ("Frisky"), but by and large the great on this one manages to blindingly overshadow the bad and Stone proves stunningly inventive, even taking a schlock Doris Day pop song and making it into a fantastic soul/gospel number ("Que Sera Sera") and survives a remake of hit "Dance to the Music" as a chilled funk number ("Keep on Dancin'", which proves to be quite engaging).
This reissue has been remastered and adds a handful of alternate mixes as bonus tracks as well as including new liner notes. The bonus tracks here are interesting-- Sly Stone had tinkered substantially with the mix on "Fresh" before settling on its released version, although at some point in its early CD release history, alternate mixes for some of the record leaked out (and were quickly recalled by the label). Some of these are actually quite superior to the original mix, illustrating significantly more space and occasionally benefitting from a lack of overdubs-- "Let Me Have it All" is the best example of this, without the layers of vocal overdubs, Sly's vocal really shines. The remastering on this is equally top notch, the record sounds great throughout.
"Fresh" is always going to be thought of as the album that followed "There's a Riot Goin' On"-- it's not quite as good as its predecessor (or as "Stand!" before that), but truthfully this came at the end of a window where Sly Stone could do no wrong. "Fresh" is a fine record in its own right. Highly recommended.
In Time Fresh Just Gets Fresher.......2007-04-14
'Fresh' is a Sly album that is always in an awkward possition because it comes as the follow up to Stand! and
There's a Riot Goin' On ,both of which are considered classics. But trying to judge any Sly & The Family Stone did in the late 60's and early 70's is like trying to debate which chocolate you like best.If you love chocolate, you love it all.One thing 'Fresh' really helps you understand about Sly Stone is that he's a slick producer. Not in the sense of over doing it but how he takes, for example the first song "In Time" with it's gritty organ/guitar sound and get it all to sound smooth as melted caramel all at the same time. The best part about that song is the use of the rhythm box beat;unlike like drumming it gives the music a very exotic, modern feel and a lot of emotion rather then sound cold and artificial.Even more interesting to note is that "Let Me Have It All","Skin I'm In' and "Keep On Dancin",something of a reprise of "Dance To The Music" from six years earlier all share the same style-deep,brooding but funky and never at a slow crawl as the music on the previous album was.On the hit "If You Want Me To Stay" the absense of Larry Graham comes to the surface as newcomer Rusty Allen takes a more timid bassline but the song itself showcases an important theme;'Fresh' is an album about Sly letting go of the past and creating a new future;Sly tells us that if we "want to him stay" he'll be around but we should let him be himself in the meantime. The same theme extends into Sly's version of "Que Sera Sera",which takes the frothy meloncaughly of the Doris Day original into pure gospel/blues passion (plus primetime drama lovers will note it was featured in an episode of 'Judging Amy').The "old" Sly & The Family Stone is best represented on "If It Were Left Up To Me" with that perky horn style of "Everyday People" and, lyrically is matches up very well with the mildly claustraphobic funk of "Babies Makin' Babies",a flat out terrific funk tune that really does the impossible;it's funky and cool at the same time, two things that seldom go together. All five of the bonus cuts being alternate takes you get to see 'Fresh' in the trial and error stages with echo plexed vocals on "Frisky" and the music on "Babies Makin' Babies" kept even further in the backround. As for this CD the remaster of 'Fresh' is excellent, especially the stereo seperation which makes the album sound more genuine then even the first CD reissue.Plus the fact you get very good liner notes that actually enhance the listening experience rather then detract from it.So as an album (if you never heard it before this) 'Fresh' lives up to it's title by being an ear catching musical experience that will draw you right into it's grooves and melodies. And even if you've already heard it a million times this will make you love it all over again.

Exceptional CD. Inspirational and motivational. Highy recommend this for anyone seeking great quality music.
USMA Glee Club scores a real hit.......2006-11-14
This album is awe-inspiring. I bought the album after hearing an out take from "Men of Freedom", the tune is from an old Welsh battle song. You will recognize the tune if you saw Zulu Dawn with Michael Caine. Many of the other songs are equally powerful and mesmerizing. The only songs I didn't like were when the Glee club used guest soloists. They were less impressive and, in my opinion, took away from the strength of the group.
I liked the multiple verses sung from America, I wished they would have given the Star Spangled Banner the same treatment. The Mansions of the Lord is powerful and supremely reverent, as is Rise Up. I would dearly like to hear more from this talented group of soldiers.
Reverent, Full of Love.......2006-09-26
When I saw and heard this music broadcast Veteran's Day on TBN and my friends serving in our Armed Forces in Iraq saw it broadcast on Armed Forces Network, I was so happy to find the stereo CD and companion Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound DVD on Amazon. I cannot stop listening to it! The 60 minute musical program, reminiscent of the great concept albums of years ago, is one of the most reverent, intelligent and passionate portrayals of America's character ever produced. It contains many styles of choral music - all superbly performed by the world famous Cadet Glee Club of West Point arrayed in breathtaking formation on the altar of the massive 100 year old Cadet Chapel. There are richly textured vocal a capella songs such as "Rise Up O Men of God", "Manisons of the Lord", one of the most popular new hymns written, and "America (My Country `Tis of Thee)". Your buttons will burst with pride when you hear the brand new song "Men of Freedom" introduced by a single Cadet then followed by a cascade of additional voices building to a unified and thunderous declaration of defiant freedom in a style reminiscent of the great Welsh Male Choirs. Four songs highlight the power and majesty of the largest church organ in the world. You'll have to fight the urge to stand at attention when you hear and feel its power kick in on "Lest We Forget", "On Great Lone Hills", "Jerusalem" and "This Christmastide". The musical variety is further enhanced by the addition of brass and percussion for the rousing marches, "The Longest Day" and "Non Nobis". When was the last time you heard these two songs - one by world famous singer, songwriter and teen idol, Paul Anka and the other a medieval celebration of thanksgiving sung in Latin! The rich background vocals of the Cadet Glee Club musically frame two songs that underpin the message of this album - Bravery and Sacrifice. "Into the Fire" by NYPD's Daniel Rodriguez made me want to immediately rise up and rush to anyone's aid and when he holds that note at the end - wow! Tony Award Winner Lea Salonga's performance of the classic Christian hit, "Via Dolorosa", (one of the top 50 Christian songs of all time), is "The Passion of the Christ" embodied in a 5 minute song. You will alternate between tears and goose bumps. Her performance of the Spanish stanza will overwhelm you. Finally, Irish song writing master, Phil Coulter's wistful "Take Me Home" is accompanied by beautiful piano and guitar and introduced by a new poem entitled "I Am A Soldier" that is sobering reminder of the oath our soldiers swear to and the actions they are bound to take. God bless them!
A great bonus of the CD and DVD is that they both include a stylish lyric booklet as well as commentary by the producer on why he chose each song.
On the back cover of the CD and DVD cases is the statement that this production was created to honor the men and women of our Armed Forces, past and present, and the great values of America that they defend. This it surely does!! Also, it states that the producer is contributing a portion of his wholesale proceeds from its sale to organizations assisting our wounded soldiers. Bravo, Mr. Coppi.
Good CD.......2006-07-19
Wonderful songs and wonderful renditions of the songs. I must say, though, that the numbers would have been better if they were performed with more "ooomph" (for instance, "The Star Spangled Banner" could have been sung with more power and the arrangement could have used more creativity). The wisest decision on this CD was the inclusion of the numbers from Ms. Lea Salonga (whose hauntingly beautiful voice is able to effectively draw listeners in) and Daniel Rodriguez, one of America's newest tenors. Overall a good CD.
A real disappointment..........2006-06-10
I was so excited to stumble upon this album when a local music store was going out of business and selling CD's at great discounts. I love Glee Club music, I love patriotic music, and I love cathedral/chapel accoustics. Unfortunately, this album did not live up to its billing.
My primary complaints with this recording are twofold: the overuse of unison singing and the unnecessary inclusion of guest soloists. The beauty of glee club music is the rich chords, which are thankfully heard in many songs. To my dismay, though, there are many songs that mostly or entirely omit the beautiful harmonies that make glee clubs great.
As for the guest soloists, I don't understand why a singing group which obviously has many wonderful voices would bring in outsiders for an album like this. Actually, I do know why they would do it, and it's obviously a marketing thing that has financial implications. As reasonable as this may seem, it just cheapens the experience for me. Another great feature of glee clubs (and college choirs more generally) is the lack of polished, perfect, professional singers. There is something raw, authentic, and refreshing about a bunch of college kids singing together. Why bring in random people with no particular connection to the group?
To be fair, "Rise Up, O Men of God" and "Mansions of the Lord" are fantastic. I'll continue to play this album to listen to those songs. However, much of the remainder is somewhat forgettable.
