Editorial Reviews
Product Description
English DJ / Producer Kenny Hawkes has been a pioneering influence on the British dance scene for over a decade. Back in the early 90's, Brighton-born Hawkes moved to London to manage pirate radio station Girls FM and host a groundbreaking show - and in no time Girls FM was attracting up to a million listeners a month, becoming the most legendary underground dance music station in the capital. It was there that Kenny met Luke Solomon (of Freaks fame) who became his greatest friend and fellow resident at London's longest running mid-week house club, Space at Bar Rumba.

Space closed its doors in February 2002, after seven years as London's house music tour de force. Kenny and Luke prided themselves on bringing in the world's greatest spinners such as Harvey, Tom Middleton, Francois Kevorkian, DJ Sneak, Pete Heller, Mark Farina, Cajmere and Derrick Carter - where they would play for a pint of beer, a bag of chips and cab fare home.

nite:life 17 is Kenny's second commercially-available mix CD and showcases his enthusiasm for dance music that works just as well as a home listening disc as it does on the dancefloor. Hot new cuts from the likes of Brooks (remixing Clyde feat. Capitol A), Mary, Annie (Joshua's new mix of ‘I Will Get On'), Gideon Jackson and Tony Senghore (remixing Brett Johnson) sit side by side with great productions from yesteryear including Octave One, Cine City and Flux Mode (aka Nick Holder & Sirus). A lesson in house music from one of the UK's unsung masters.

I had never heard of Kenny Hawkes before i bought this one on recommendation of the person in the record shop. So much more interesting! I mean, who wants another uninspiring Dimitri from Paris cd, to give an example? Listening to this particular one gives you the impression of a man who really does his best to create an all round housecd based on more up beat rhytms. As most of the creations of DJs he builds the sense of partying up. If I was to draw a parallel to an old classic it could very well be the first release of Lazy dog, a cd useful both at parties and at home alone. But he does it faster and far more interesting than most others. The cd starts of with a track that are much more up beat than most other first tracks leading on to an experience of heavy basslines that leads you into an nice cool atmosphere of good clubbing situations. The keywords are: Interesting, heavy basslines, up beat, variation. A perfect mixture that also contain very nice vocals on the songs.
