4 out of 5 stars Goofy fun........2006-08-07

Look at the album art... look that the band name... check out the album's title. What would you expect? It's nothing earth-shattering or breathtaking, but it's a hell of a lot of fun and you're not going to hear much like it. They're aXe (Or Arcade Edge) and sound like a mix of post-hardcore and 8-bit arcade. Really.

With lyrics like "We always think we will find a secret code that will fix everything," you're not quite sure if they're singing about arcade games or deep metaphores for life.

So this album's very cool, just don't expect anything too incredible out of it... every track is awesome, minus "Scenes Rushing By" That's Karate High School attempting at a slow song. And fails miserably. I've heard it once, and I swear I'll never listen to it again. But beyond that, there's "Sweep the Leg" with lyrics like "THERE IS NO PAIN IN MY DOJO!!!" screamed right in the begining of the song...

4 out of 5 stars A great mix of effects, riffs, and melody.......2006-03-22

I'm starting to dig this new trend of mixing hard rock with sounds from 8-bit and 16-bit video games. The last one I heard was from a hardcore band, but Karate High School is by far more melodic, thus making for a more enjoyable experience. I died laughing when they quoted the Cobra Kai dojo motto from Karate Kid in the song "Sweep the Leg." That's a great track. As for the rest; a great mix of effects, riffs, and melody.

4 out of 5 stars excellant track selectoin.......2007-04-28

High Karate is a great unmixed compilation. The first song is a En Vogue cover with male vocals that will blow you away... The second song "Scottie" is brilliantly eerie ..made complete with Star Trek samples... I could go on about every track but all you need to know is that the selections are quality and its well worth the money

Album Description

“Wave goodbye to everything you knew”

The opening lyrics to Karate High School's “Wave Goodbye” signal the beginning of a new dimension, a place where 8-bit arcade systems collide with semi-trucks carrying loud orchestra hits and heavy guitar riffs. It's a place where once you visit, you'll never want to leave. The songs invade your brain—and, much like an unwanted houseguest, they stick around for a long time and refuse to wash the dishes.

5 out of 5 stars Rocky road the way it should be........2002-12-20

I like bands that rock.
I think this group really rocks.
Bands that don't rock, ....
Karate High School doesn't ...
They rock.
Really.

I work in a cubby. I like to listen to their tunes. It sets me free and allows me to create and do my lifes work. Hello Kitty.

Thank you and good night.

5 out of 5 stars "Wave goodbye" to every album you own.......2002-02-12

I first encountered KHS at the Cactus Club in San Jose, CA late last year. I was hooked the moment I heard the last track on this album, Wave Goodbye. I was impressed with the sound of the song, but was surprised when I found myself connecting with it on an emotional level.

KHS' performance live is unlike any experience I have ever had. With a mixture of daft antics and wit, the key ingredient to KHS' success may very well lie with their front man, Paul McGuire. After the show, my emotional state following Wave Goodbye notwithstanding, I realized that I had to own this album.

I believe that KHS is perhaps the greatest band to arrive since The Dovells burst onto the scene in 1961 with their chart-topping hit, The Bristol Stomp. In fact, I predict that Extra Extra (Hear All About It) will become the breakthrough hit of 2002!

5 out of 5 stars I'll be their cheerleader anyday!.......2002-02-07

This album rules! I saw these guys live and they mentioned that they were selling their CDs on Amazon.com--So I decided to buy one. It was the best investment I ever made! Below are a few reason's why I love the band.

I love Paul M's vocals, whenever I hear the CD it feels like he is singing to me. Talk dirty to me sweetie...

I love hearing Ray-Ray's magic fingers pressing those keys on his keyboard. Touch and play me anytime baby!

I love hearing Gabe playing his guitar to perfection. Give me a call honey, you got the number.

I love the feeling I get as Sean Martin's drum beats consume my every being. I got my eye on you darlin'.

I love listening to the thunderous bass lines that come out of Paul K's bass. Is that a lightening bolt in your pants or are you just happy to see me?

But most of all I love the CD! Keep at it boys, you will be famous one day, and I take great satisfaction in knowing that I am seeing ya'll in your prime.

Love ya,
Tonya
