2 out of 5 stars What exactly is this supposed to be?.......2004-07-20

First let me mention that I do in fact have a lot of respect for Carl Craig. My first exposure to him was his inclusion to the album "Back to Mine" by Everything but the Girl. I adored the track "A Wonderful Life". So naturally when I came across this album I expected to hear more music like that. Yes I understand that the music on this album isn't specifically his, but that it might be along his musical genre.

I was more or less disappointed with the entire album. A couple of tracks, such as "The O.G." by Goo, and "Twisted" by Sneakster, make the album redeemable, but there is no real flow to it. And who exactly is LB? Apparently he thought that scratching the crap out of the vocals in his tracks would be a good idea. Now I see why one of his two songs featured is called "Superbad".

If you get the opportunity to listen to this album first, then go for it. It isn't terrible or anything. Don't buy it though. There are lots of compilation albums out there that dwarf Craig. Oh yeah, and if you don't have "Back to Mine" yet by EBTG, then what are you waiting for? You'll see why Carl Craig is fun times.

4 out of 5 stars Fusing tech, jazz & breaks.......2001-09-08

This is not an artist full length; it is a continuous mix by Planet-E label boss Carl Craig.
The whole set is sufficiently diverse, with balanced doses of nu-breaks (LB, Marasma, Goo, Shinju Gumi), abstract jazz & brazilian flavours (Jimpster, Ultralights, Recloose) , and techhouse-orientated beats (R. Craig, John Arnold, LB). The most interesting tracks are 'The Future' by LB, an neo-electro take on Prince's track of the same name from the Batman OST, and 'Poly Bell' by Droid, a dark, pulsating drum'n bass/tech bybrid with a few nice jazzy moments. Almost all tracks share an experimental, underground, techy edge and, while not constructed strictly for the dancefloor, will keep your full attention from start to end. Music for mature beatheads...
